Awesome!
It's about time they released a landspeeder.
I do like the penguin Limo though - great fun!
70911 looks amazing! Must have!
That Penguin set--wow! The Lando minifigure is a pleasant addition. But yet another Landspeeder? We've had a few, most recently in 2014.
That Penguin car is something else
are lego that short of ideas for the original star wars trilogy that they have to keep rereleasing the same sets repeatedly?!
That landspeeder is 90% the same as 75052 from 2014 and 8092 from 2010. Nice that it comes with Tusken raider but where's R2D2?
That Penguin car looks brilliantly nuts though.
I'm loving the wheel arches on the Penguin Roller
Is the A-wing set a Rebels set? If so, why do they put Lando in it? I don't remember any connection between him and this kind of starfighter at all.
I've counted 4 rehashed set in this single wave. The Y-wing and the Deser Skiff came out in 2012, the A-wing in 2013, the Landspeeder in 2014.
That Penguin Roller looks like a very fun/cool looking set. Nice piece usage with that air balloon piece.
Penguin's roller looks sooo league of extraordinary gentlemen inspired!
The range of vehicles in the batman sets are unprecedented...
I would have bought that set just for the Tuken Raider had I had more cash, I will not be buying reharshes just to get a few new figures (the only exception so far is the newest Y-Wing set and if Lego releases a new X-Wing it would be much appreciated).
Definatly getting the A-wing, mainly just for lando and the ground crew.
The landspeeder looks very dissapointing, it's near identical to the one that came with 75052.
I wasn't too impressed with the desert skiff untill I saw the new boba fett print. Still, the sarlac looks awfull.
I really like the rogue one 2017 sets, so I'll still have plenty to buy!
Yes, the Penguin Arctic Roller is really nice - my favourit of all the Batman Movie sets.
Is it me are all the batmans the same in the new sets apart from the bat cave l.
Those Classic boxes have some attractive example models. Overall, the Ninjago and Batman Movie sets are the most attractive to me.
The desert skiff looks terrible compared to the 2012 version, gunna have to stick to the rebels and rogue one sets
Lando!
Ditto most of the comments Penguin roller a must have, both disappointed and annoyed with Stars wars "tweaks" ....... as I know ill buy them anyway when 25% off in Feb.......
Loving the use of the hot air balloon segments on the penguin roller. The printed engine 1x1 arch tiles on the engine block of catwoman's bike are also great.
Wow, that Pinguin car looks great. Did they use those hot air balloon parts as wheel arches?
Disney has completely lost it with Star Wars. It's just rinse and repeat.
Also, nowadays all the smaller sets priced ~30 euro aren't really play sets that fit together, but more 'vignette' sets for adult fans, for example Carbon Freezing Chamber and Duel on Naboo.
Yet...still no sizable Bespin set.
Will the Ninjago sets be released in March or January?
That Seaplanes Adventures 31064 set just reminded me of Talespin. If they release another few Disney CMF lines, maybe they'll eventually have Baloo and Louie to add to it.
Actually, the sign on one of the holding cells with the keypad in the Arkham Asylum says "No gifts. No stationary". I wonder if that should be "No stationery" since the sign really makes no sense as it is.
Yes, Lando!! Finally!!
The A-Wing doesn't seem like a rehash to me; It's a vast improvement over any released before. The laser cannons finally look correct, a complete set of landing gear is built in, and they've completely redesigned the engines and tail fins. Not to mention the ground accessories, none of which were included in the 2013 set. I'll be on the lookout for the A-Wing from day one!
Wow. I have to say that a lot of these sets are underwhelming at best. The pricing on Batman Movie sets is out of control. I'll just wait to pick up most of them on clearance on Amazon. $29.99 USD for the Scarecrow set? On what planet?
The Star Wars sets are just plain lazy. I was really hoping for a Cloud City homage or something else with a new Lando figure. But no...we just get him thrown into a A-wing Starfighter almost rehash set (there are definitely changes to A-Wing but not enough to make me buy)? I paid retail for the A-Wing/Darth Vader Fighter set...never making that stupid mistake again (Amazon had it for what...$56.79 USD for quite a while). Plus a new totally worthless Dessert Skiff set to get a new Han? The Lando thing is bad, but even worse is the inclusion of yet another Landspeeder set with the Luke and Obi Wan from Sandcrawler and Mos Eisley sets...we have to buy this stupid set again to get a member of the Sandpeople? How about a Bantha set? How about something new and totally original Lego? I cannot get excited about sets that are as appealing as getting new Lego City Fire and Police Stations EVERY YEAR.
Maybe...and I highly highly doubt it, but the inclusion of a new Desert Skiff set means Lego might actualy do another Jabbas Palace set with Rancor Pit included....I want a full set...slap a UCS sticker on it if you want, but don't polish a lemon and give us the old Jabba Palace and Pit in the same box. I had no desire to buy the others given ample opportunity to do so. I think it is a crime what people are asking for Palace and Pit in aftermarket (the sets are awful).
Agree with the above that the Penguin car looks great, but the included "vehicle" (if you can call it that) for Batman is awful.
penguins limo is awesome, so is the joker's low rider...
The problem with the Landspeeder isn't that it is coming out, it is that it isn't an upgrade of any significance. I saw on someone's Flickr page not long ago a Landspeeder in this scale and it was flipping gorgeous, totally SNOT driven in design and it rocked the house.
It would be totally tits if TLG did re-releases of every ship in the fleet and every vehicle driven in Star Wars I'd buy every one, but put a little elbow grease into the designs and make em sing, I'm sure price points can be met with certain SKUs with that as a side goal.
Re: Skiff, which is a much better design. Why does Fett have fleshy hands? And did anyone else notice the Jedi disheveled Han Solo look? That's awesome!
@Dare_Wreck: it doesn't come with a vehicle for Batman... Maybe the little Penguin raft bit is what you're looking at?
This is no where near it too. The Speed Champions are still to be revealed as well.
Still no Bespin.
@Huw: 75175 should be subcategorized under Episode VI.
@VictorvanSchagen: Is that really anything new, though? Back in the early days of LEGO Star Wars, classic vehicles like the X-Wing, Y-Wing, and TIE fighter would be re-released or redesigned every two or three years. I'd consider the more recent trend of re-releasing or redesigning vehicles like that every four or five years a considerable improvement.
The only sets that tend to get super repetitive (as in, released year after year) are ones like Jedi Starfighters and Episode 7 X-Wings that are released in different color palettes without other major changes or a lot of time between them. But considering that the Jedi Starfighter palette swaps date from well before the Disney takeover, it's hard to blame that kind of thing on them.
Is it just me or does Batman look like he has an actual belt piece? Or am I just horrible behind and this has already been talked about?
The Star Wars are a little underwhelming. I like the Batman set. Not sure about the Penguin minifigure itself, but I like the umbrella and shawl accessories.
Damn that A-wing is nice
Why does the a-wing cost £45?!
https://shop.lego.com/en-GB/A-Wing-Starfighter-75175
There are many ships from SW that have yet to be made, so I doubt they are running out of ideas.
My thoughts are in line with most of you.
STAR WARS
- Skiff - Looks worse than the last one. Why is Boba not wearing gloves? I can't see any reason to buy this IF you have the last one, though Nikto in the aftermarket may happen for me.
- Landspeeder - no reason for this IF you have the Cantina which is pretty recent. Sand Person is ok to have.
- A-Wing - model looks great and so do the Minifigures. I may have to get this one.
Prices are ridiculous though!
I'd just like to say before this little rant, that I'm not a price complainer, not once have I done it before. But seriously Lego. I know all about brexit and all but why? Some of the UK Prices are just unreasonable, I noticed Prices sneaking up last year but this year takes the biscuit. What is this newfound £85 Price tag on sets that even last year wouldn't be above £70, just picked out two too name a few, The Scuttler and Jestros Headquarters, on what planet are either of those sets worth more than the Fortrex or Ultra Stealth Raider from this year. Or £45 for that Awing that came out in 2014 for £25? For me the one that caused me to write this comment is by far the Low rider £55! What? However I would like to end on a positive and can say some sets are actually nicely priced, I would go as far as underpriced in some cases; Both Lances Bike thing, Ruinas Lock and Roller for £15 is a steal and I think there are actually a few of the Batman sets that I'd consider well priced; Scarcrow set, Clayface set, Batmobile and Arkham :)
Man, every time I get an A-Wing, they make a better one! Make us the UCS already!
Even though I'm not a super hero fan I may have to get Penguin's car, that thing is beautiful! As for the 3 newly pictured 2017 Star Wars sets I'm vastly underwhelmed. I agree with TheAuk 100% on the Skiff and Landspeeder (but in addition to the good version in the Cantina set I also have the 2010 Landspeeder and really don't need a third remake). As for the A-Wing I just bought the A-Wing and Vader's TIE Advanced set, and now have 5 A-Wings, and really don't need number 6. Although the Rebel Technician is nice and Lando in his General outfit is something I only have one other of (from the Home One set). I wonder if Lego realizes that we'd all (as in maybe just me?) love to see Lando in his Cloud City version. And as far as Cloud City can we get some more of those sets please?! There are so many scenes and vehicles from the OT that Lego hasn't done yet, so why do they keep rehashing the same dozen or so sets every year?! At least I'll save some money on SW and can actually buy Assembly Square, which looks amazing. I'm just now building my first modular with Pet Shop, and it looks like this modular thing is going to be a lot of fun for me and my daughter!
@Obi_G, LegoSolo77, VictorvanSchagen, etc.: First off, Lego doesn't "keep rehashing the same dozen or so sets every year." Second, the point of Lego Star Wars "always" making new versions of older sets is becuse the old ones have been off the market for many years, and that's not good for the target audience. We still get new models from TFA, Rebels, Rogue One, etc.
And why should this be blamed on Disney? Is there any quantifiable proof anywhere that they've had any effect whatsoever on which models Lego, which is an independent, privately owned company, chooses to produce?
FWIW, I feel like a Cloud City playset is in the works.
@TheAuk, blogzilly: He's wearing gloves; they're just tan instead of dark tan this time. Compare the color of Fett's hands with the tan on the Sarlaac, and Han's fleshie hands.
@scoiltreasa: We don't know the prices yet.
The worst thing about these are the prices:
Landspeeder: 30€ for round 150 pieces
Desert Skiff: 40€ for about 275 pieces and
A-Wing: 50€ for 335 pieces!
This is just nuts. I don't have a big problem with the fact, that these are rereleases, because I think that at least the Desert Skifff and the A-Wing got some quite good improvements.
Minifigures are good, but i'm missing R2-D2 in the landspeeder set and Luke in the Desert Skifff set, these are just too essential for these scenes.
I'm really looking forward to the A-Wing, becaus it looks so good and, the most important, this awesome Lando figure and the other two figures, too.
But i think 2017 is in case of Star Wars a year for Rogue One for me so far.
Bisides, the arctic roller looks really cool and interesting ;)
I'm not basically against rehashes, because younger fans can get their hands on this set direct from LEGO, without buying it second-hand, but that must not mean that they don't do any new things.
I may get the Landspeeder on agood sale just for the Tusken Raider and the pieces, even given the fact that i already have the 2010 and 2014 landspeeder and 2015 skyhopper with a Tusken.
Why not do a Tusken Raider set with a Bantha mold and up to 4 Tusken, no other minifigs. I really like the Tusken Raider minifigure and would approciate a way to get some more at one time, given the fact that i have almost every thing from Tatooine from the OT.
I know we saw the Nexo Knights images a while ago, but getting a close up of the individual models is interesting. The horse in http://brickset.com/sets/70359-1/Lance-vs-Lightning appears to be a bit of a new parts bonanza, for example: lots of 2x2 45º wedge plates, along with white fezzes and droid bodies (they're both recolours, yes?) and the 2x2 corner tile with wedge (I have no idea what Bricklink or Lego is going to call that one). I'm sure there's more to come; New Elementary will hopefully be busy.
Omg that new dessert skiff.....my eyes.....that is horrible
Loving Penguins car - all the Batman Movie theme vehicles together should look pretty good!
@Joel.Baker - Ah, you must be right! That does look like a little penguin raft, so it must be a getaway vehicle for the Penguin that fits in the back of the car. I'm actually surprised they don't have a little something for Batman to ride on, as most superhero sets of that size (or maybe I'm just thinking of themes like Ninjago?) feature a prominent vehicle for one character and a tiny little thing for that character's antagonist to use/ride.
@ Josh._777: Where'd you find the Euro prices?
And now for something completely different: I'm really looking forward to the Dinosaur set at the end of Huw's query to the database ;-)
I'm seeing hardly any of these sets on the U.S. site, what gives? :(
@Drzhivago138 Check shop @home they're up on there
Just bring back the UCS Millennium Falcon in 2017 and a lot of us would be thrilled!!
I don't even collect the SW sets, but just how many Landspeeders have they released? It feels like a lot.
I'd say this is good justification; a quote from the Lego Star Wars Visual Dictionary: Updated and Expanded:
"Some ships and playsets are so classic and iconic that they are always in demand from children and collectors. However, LEGO design moves on, and we want to make sure that everything is as new and improved as it can be. When we relaunch something, it should look different and better, with new play functions and new minifigures. It is a balance though, because we also want to do completely new things."
This was a surprisingly excellent update on 2017 set pictures. I absolutely love the Penguin's roadster, and it may be time to invest in the new A-Wing after missing the previous incarnation with Admiral Ackbar. I'm trying to spend conservatively on Lego nowadays, but then Lego always manages to release plenty of must-have sets!
I think I preferred the January wave of Star Wars before these (clearly AFOL rage inducing) images appeared, however if I try to take a balanced view:
Desert Skiff: The actual design is much better than the 2012 version - it now looks much more like the one we see in the film, particularly with the outer 'walls' of the craft. Even the Sarlacc looks a bit better (although still a little pointless). The minifigs are a little odd though - many have mentioned Boba's hands, and I would much rather have an additional skiff guard than Chewbacca.
Landspeeder: Slightly gawped at how similar it is to the Mos Eisley Cantina one of only a couple of years ago. I will admit the engines look a little better but otherwise you're basically just buying for some nice figs. But even then they're seemingly not unique.
A-Wing: Have we ever had a vehicle repeated (as a different set) in the very next 6 month's release before? Even the EpVII X-Wing doesn't have that accolade. The green A-Wing was very good that came with the TIE Advanced so this seems way too soon. However, this is the one set out of the three that I might consider getting for the figs - who wouldn't want that Lando!
Prices can be found for some countries, and they're some of the worst I've ever seen. In Austria, the Skiff is $70, the A-wing is $80! The Landspeeder, in an attempt to have a higher cost per piece than even the lonely mountain (of course without the clear reason for being so expensive), is an insane $50! Literally half the price of the canteena! I cant justify even touching this star wars wave, short of importing sets from the US, which should never be the cheaper option given the insane shipping costs. This is just unacceptable. It doesn't even matter how good the sets are (and Im not huge fan of most of them in the first place), at those price points they're unpurchasable
Look at it this way, as far as the Star Wars sets go, they will all be new to someone. And that is who Lego is after, the new buyer....the older buyers for the most part aren't going anywhere
Cheers to everyone who found the Euro prices. EU always seems to get the short end of the stick.
@ Zordboy: This is the 4th landspeeder set we've had in 18 years. 7110 in 1999, 4501 (Mos Eisley Cantina) in 2004, then we had nothing until 2014 with 75052. As far as Star Wars set remakes go, that's actually kinda sparse.
The X-wing is the most rehashed set, naturally. Counting TFA versions, we've had 7 since 1999:
-7140 in 1999
-7142 in 2002 (this was just a repackage of 7140 with no differences, which is something Lego used to do in the '90s and early '00s)
-4502 in late 2003/2004 (the one with Yoda's hut, and the only set with Dagobah Luke)
-6212 in 2006 (basically 4502 with slight cosmetic differences and different minifigs)
-9493 in 2012
-75102 in 2015 (TFA, Poe's black and orange T-70)
-75149 just this year (TFA, gray and blue T-70)
And that's not even counting the myriad UCS, Mini, and Microfighter versions. I dunno how many we'd have if those were counted.
Since 1999, we've had 7 Y-wings as well (though I would consider only 5 of those to be unique):
-7150 in 1999 (with Darth Vader's TIE Advanced)
-7152 in 2002 (again, a rerelease of 7150)
-7262 in 2004 (a rerelease, but in new bley, and Darth Vader's TIE is the new design from 10131 TIE Collection)
-7658 in 2007
-8037 in 2009 (the CW version with Anakin and Ahsoka)
-9495 in 2012
-75172 coming next year (Rogue One version)
I can think of a lot of sets that have been rehashed, but none as frequently as the X- or Y-wing. And that's not inherently a bad thing: Like kazar14 said, it's important to Lego that their "halo sets" showcase all the new pieces and building techniques that have been released or developed since the last version of the set.
@ The Rancor, the A-Wing in this wave is not the same ship as the Rebel one with Darth Vader's TIE Advanced X-1. The Rebels version is the R-22 Spearhead, (based on Ralph Maquarie's concept art) while this new one is the RZ-1 Interceptor from Return of the Jedi. There are some fairly major differences between them when you look a bit closer.
On that note, hopefully the angle of those vertical stabilisers can be adjusted, as they are canted inwards too heavily. The RZ-1 has only a slight angle to them.
In my previous comment, I said we didn't have any Landspeeder between 2004 and 2014. This is incorrect; I forgot about set 8092 in 2010. So we've had 5 in 18 years, not 4.
Apart from the LXG/Rolls Royce influence, the shape of the Penguin car is also reminiscent of the "batmissile" batmobile from Batman Returns... just needs one more pair of wheels in the front!
Penguin car & Desert skiff = WANT :)
^^^^ @Privatematrix I realise the version of the craft is slightly different, it's had a good few years to be refined in between Rebels and Episode VI. However, I'm still not best pleased that the same 'type' of vehicle is being released in such quick succession, and for a sky-high price.
Penguin Arctic Roller looks sick. Land Speeder and Desert Skiff are pretty disappointing, last versions looked better imho. A-Wing looks the same.
I don't need any of the new LEGO Star Wars builds, and am satisfied with previous versions, but I'm loving all of the new minifigures and upgrades. The ommission of R2-D2 from the Landspeeder feels a bit odd but it's great to see a Tusken Raider! Glad to see Lando back in rotation! Skiff is mostly made interesting by the new Han hairpiece and Nikto Guard, and I guess a cheap way to get the new Chewie.
LEGO's really pushing Boba Fett and Carbonite Han lately though, huh, between this and the Carbon Freezing Chamber?
