Mixels competition winners

We had well over one hundred entries to our final Mixels building competition on Flickr and Instagram and the standard of entry was exceptionally high. The fourteen judges, including Gemma Anderson, designer of many of the Mixels sets, certainly had their work cut out, but after much deliberation I can now reveal the winners:

In first place, winner of 21307 Caterham Seven 620R is...

1st: Toyxels by Unijob Lindo

Here's what the judges had to say about them:

  • Gemma: Love love love the wind up teeth! A really fun tribe idea, and the colour scheme is done really well!
  • An excellent interpretation of 3 very obvious toys. Out of the 3 my favourite would have to be the wind up teeth, I would love to have one for my desk!
  • The concept of the Toyxels is cool and I love the black and red. Chitt-Chatt is adorable and a neat design.
  • I liked the characters and the humour factor used to make the 'Toys' recognisable.
  • A fantastic entry, all well defined characters, though Craxer steals the show for me.
  • Making use of the newest parts to feature a ball joint the members of this tribe are filled with playful expressions and childish charm to recreate classic toys. These Toyxels will be the perfect addition to any child’s toy box and I know the younger members of my family would love to play with them all, especially the chattering teeth.
  • A great set of models - I am immediately drawn to the chattering teeth which almost at first glance doesn't look like Lego at all! The models all have really nice clean lines and their looks clearly define their characters
  • Love the finish on these - very sleek. Again, an original concept plus nice and sturdy.

2nd: Artistz by SuperLegoFan565

Prize: 21306 The Beatles Yellow Submarine.

The judges were really impressed with these characters:

  • Gemma: There’s something so nice about the design of The Artistz, they’re so iconic that kids (and adults) can get it instantly, plus I have a soft spot for the easel Mixel. It’s absolutely hilarious!
  • Eazel really stands out and nice idea for a theme
  • An excellent use of parts here. The flintlock pistols used as a moustache were instantly recognisable as what they were supposed to represent. This model conveys exactly what this competition was about, in my opinion; creativity.
  • I really like how original this idea is and how polished they appear, they each look like they have their own defined character. The small colour touches really pop out from the predominantly white sections and it's easy to guess what they are based on.
  • Mixels with a sophisticated flair! Nice use of parts, and wouldn't want a piece of art created by these guys?
  • Not your usual kind of Mixels, very original and colourful. Good use of not that many pieces. Just wish the Easel had a bit more 'pose-ability'.

3rd: The Good Eatz by Flanagan Brothers Inc.

Prize: 21308 Adventure Time

The Flanagan Brothers are no strangers to winning our competitions and they submitted another cracking entry to this one.

  • Gemma: The Fries Mixel! I want it! Very funny theme, the vending machine is really cool too. I love how much character and expression each Mixel has in this one.
  • They are an accurate representation of what they're meant to be and look like they could be real Mixels (if they didn't look too much like McDonalds!)
  • A yummy surprise here! I was surprised to see that a food interpretation of Mixels could work so well. Looking great especially the fries.
  • Fast food! I'm sure these guys would get along great with the Munchos. Frye steals he show here, but the rest are awesome as well.
  • Easily recognisable characters and an instant appeal to the target audience, nice mix of bright colours in the builds and they look quite sturdy for play. Also quite an interesting selection of parts to use for alternative builds.
  • I really like the red and yellow colour scheme, probably due to good memories when visiting a certain fast food chain as a child. The smooth finish to the model, having few visible studs gives a nice, well thought out look providing a pleasingly polished look. The vending machine is a great little representation and all the models look expressive and fun.
  • Personality and characters of the Mixels really comes through, plus the really interesting use of parts! They're immediately recognizable and yet different.
  • Scary and funny like Mixels should be, nice bright colours and a very original subject - love the use of tubes for arms!

So, congratulations to the winners, thanks to everyone who entered, and to Gemma and the other judges.

I'll be in touch with the winners via Flickr mail to arrange to get the prizes shipped, and I hope to be able to publish the Star Wars competition results tomorrow.View image at flickr

Wow, surised to see I won in another contest, there were some fantastic entries in there!

I'll get the LDD files up later when I'm not off to classes, I tried to use cheap parts since I bricklinked most of them myself.

Congrats to the other winners, too!

By in Australia,

I feel silly asking this, but the Artistz family of critters ... I get one's the painter, and the one in the middle is the easel. But what's the one on the far left? I don't understand what he is supposed to be at all.

^ Isn't it meant to be a palette?

By in United Kingdom,

Overall, Toyxels deserved to win, but my single favourite is Brick Belt's fries from the Good Eatz trio.

If one doesn't mind a bit of range mash-up, it would look great as a display piece with the CMF Hot Dog Man.

Wow. They are at least as high a standard as the official tribes! Did the remaining Mixels Eulogy articles get published? I come here every day but seem to have missed them.

Congrats, all! I had so much fun hosting, looking at all the new entries every day since the contest began in October, and judging! It's a shame more potential like this cannot be realized officially for Mixels now.

Top three - please get in contact with me for your art prizes. :-)

^^^^ @fox171171 and @TheBrickPal : I actually designed a Star Wars Mixels tribe but forgot to submit it! Doh! But mine aren't nearly up to this standard. I just enjoyed building them (so thanks, Brickset, for the inspiration). Here's a link (Hope it's ok to post this): https://www.flickr.com/photos/58856278 @N04/32467951955/
