More pictures from German toy fair
Posted by Huw,
Henry at klemmbausteinlyrik.de has kindly sent us some images he took at the German toy fair. There's around 80 of them so I've put them in a flickr gallery and I'm trying out a fancy embedded flickr gallery viewer to display them after the break.
You may well be able to see sets and details not evident in pictures we've seen so far.

NICE viewer feature
Ooh, some new Elves shots in there... the Goblin King's Fortress looks really cool!
Nice to see two Thor and two Spider Man sets, that jungle display is amaizing and those brick built figures simply astonishing (specially the leopard with spots next to the carnivore plant).
That viewer works well!
The Boost stuff looks great...
I like the look of that Elves fire chariot. Also, the City jungle sets look pretty sweet.
Could you please post a link to the flickr album as well? The viewer is nice but it doesn't provide a way to view the images on flickr itself.
I'm totally set on buying one or maybe two of those Lego boost things, It looks like a Lego'y Johnny 5 and in my opinion that's kind of awesome.

You can view full screen by clicking on the button bottom right.
Their new robotics stuff looks like one of their best ideas yet. I love that they're going back to the original mindstorms in a way.
I'm just getting into City again and regret missing some great Creator house sets, so I'm really looking forward to getting that white house w/red trim and garage.
I wonder if the summer sets for Nexo Knights and DC Super Hero Girls were allowed.
The Creator motorbike looks solid (suspension!) and the prop plane reminds of Duck Tales. Both are worth a second look once more official details and pictures come out.
Check out that not-so-subtle Johnny-5 robot in the Boost Display.
41187 Rosalyn's Healing Hideout looks good. Probably the only one in that wave I'm interested in though, unless 41189 turns out to be something interesting.
@Dieselville: You're in luck, because both of those sets have already been released: 31059 and 31064.
Am I the only one disturbed here by Lego putting the Jungle sets under the City theme? I mean, the artwork of a skyline on the boxes? I get the style of building and marketing this under the City giant, but man...
@binaryeye: thanks! not sure how I missed that.
Do You Have Minecraft? Hmmm?
NO MINECRAFT? YOU GUYS ARE CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!MAKE MORE MINECRAFT! I mean NOW!
There are like 10 new Minecraft sets coming out this year. At a certain point they will stop after running out of ideas.
Some things I have noticed is the pricing for the Jungle sets seem INSANELY cheap compared to past years. To the point I'm afraid LEGO will drop their Euro = USD approach.
The bus is nearly perfect with a great use of the Fun in the Park torsos and wheel chair. I'm curious to how the bus ramp will work.
I'm VERY disappointed that LEGO has dropped LEGO Creator houses and clearly replaced it with LEGO City. None of the 'Creator' houses have backs and that's a shame.
I really wish there were more Friends Winter sets, those are amazing.
Getting 1 or 2 houses a year is nice but 4 is pretty awesome. Might have to go for a couple of those.
I'm surprised one has yet to mention the excellent looking Creator 31070 (Turbo Track Racer). The car looks fantastic and the other 2 alternate models look great, especially the formula 1/indy car. It's an immediate buy for me...better looking than the overhyped Technic Porsche IMHO.
I love the Elves sets! I wish there'd have been more pictures of the Friends sets. I'm liking the look of a few of the Creator sets, too.
Really looking forward to the City jungle sets, in part because they make me think of the Adventurers jungle subtheme. Also, all the plant life, machetes, and big cats!
I'm excited for the Creator houses, except that recent sets of a similar nature have been somewhat overpriced. The white house with red trim looks great except that it doesn't look like there is a wall in back, which is a difference I enjoy between Creator sets and most other Lego buildings. Still, lots of cool stuff! And that Lego logo made of minifigures is incredible!
Any news about upcoming Lego Star Wars sets? We read the first report that TLG prohibited any photos for this line but what is the expected announcement date for Summer 2017 ses?
As also mentioned above, the recent Creator houses, including this year, are a far cry from the "good old days" when the houses actually were MODELS and not open-back play sets as now.
Also the style is more toy-like, e.g. compare the two most recent Creator light houses.
Well, at least the modulars are still models.
That Creator lineup looks very strong to me. I really like the blue car (31070), and while the houses may not have backs I still think they look interesting enough. Not sure I need a space shuttle, but we'll see.
I also quite like many of the jungle vehicles, so I guess I'll end up buying some of them. That plane wreck is a great idea! The bus is neat, but I already have one of the old ones (from 7641), so let's see whether I'll end up mixing them (would be somewhat inconsistent I guess).
I had somewhat decided not to buy anymore Elves sets because I can't afford them (space-wise), but now that I see them built I may change my mind.
Overall, this looks like a very pleasing next round of sets.
I'm a bit surprised almost nobody anywhere has noticed or mentioned the almost complete lack of Nexo Knights images, particularly of the Summer wave. Why is that? I understand why things like Star Wars and the Ninjago Movie might be photography restricted, but NK? I still can't believe that Friends of all themes was photography restricted! It was pretty much the only theme aside from Elves that I was eager to see more pictures of, almost none of the other themes in the Summer seem to be holding my interest aside from the occassional interesting new animal mould. Looks like I might be saving a lot of money this year.
Will NYTF have similar restrictions on photography this year I wonder? I hope not so I can finally get a good look at the only theme I'm still pretty invested in.
Interesting to me that people prefer houses with backs... I'm the complete opposite lol! A closed house is irritating to me - that's the reason I don't go for the modulars. I'm actually really glad they make the recent Creator houses open - in fact I wish they would make some really fancy ones on the level of the modulars in dollhouse style. We have only one older Creator house that is closed, and it is the least favorite in our family.
Of this current wave, I think the modern house looks cool (love the plug-in car and the sun panels). The villa looks a bit awkward to me, but I'll probably get it anyway because it is big :-). The small one with the pool is just meh. Will have to study some better pictures up close though, might change my mind and want all of them... (uh-oh)
Interesting getting a closer look at the boxes. To me, that big City Jungle 60161 set has all the best bits in - the crashed plane, the 'Banana Splits' ATV, The better of the two helicopters, the leopard, a (sea) kayak (on the river), and an 'Audrey II' man-eating plant.
Seems there's not much point in buying anything else in that range if you can get that one (well, unless you absolutely have to have the panther as well).
If you don't like the back of the Creator houses then remove them or buy City houses.... oh... Creator is supposed to have a back, that was how they were for 10 years. It's what makes them different and special and kit under Christmas tree displays.
I think Nexo wasn't really shown because they didn't want to spoil the TV series.
Huw, the Flickr viewer works great on the page. Thank you!
A) Did I just spot a leopard?!?!?!?!
B) Show us the PoTC set!!!!
The Lego city jungle theme just doesn't seem like I imagined but the cargo terminal looks awesome and I can probably get it in Disney and some other city sets

@bok2: I can't entirely tell if the new houses for the summer have a feature like this or not, but all the other Creator houses and buildings since 2015 have had hinges so you can choose whether to have them closed up as models or opened up as playsets.
Plus, to all those complaining about the changes in the Creator houses, let me remind you that these sets are aimed at kids, not adults. And if classic Town sets from the 70s and 80s are anything to go by, open-backed playsets have been popular with kids for decades. Among other things, they let you see and play with the interior contents at eye level instead of from above. And outside of the Expert subcategory, what defines Creator sets has never been their model-like quality — it's that they use mostly basic bricks and includes directions for multiple models.
Of the Summer Star Wars sets (pictures on multiple sites for those interested), the interesting thing for me is one of the buildable sets.
Apart from the buildable Vader (which I have), I have not been remotely interested in any other buildable sets, but when I saw the image for Scout Trooper and Speeder Bike(75532), wow was my response, it looks like a must buy.
Whereas of all the other summer sets nothing looks like a must buy for me, Darth Vader transformation is a maybe.
UCS Snowspeeder, keen to see images, but not a ship that feels like a must for me, would much rather prefer a re-release of a classic ship from ANH for its 40th anniversary.
If LEGO wants open back house sets, than go for it and finally call it City. Creator houses were great because they enclosed and mini figures weren't included. Now they are literally City sets under a different name, which is fine, but I want my Creator houses to be enclosed for easier Christmas Tree displaying.
Very excited about the upcoming Minecraft sets. I just hope they're not too expensive, because LEGO sometimes makes the sets from popular themes a little overpriced. But I will definitely purchase 21129 (The Mushroom Island), 21131 (The Ice Spikes), and 21133 (The Witch Hut).
I'm looking for a new train set this year. Has anyone heard anything about that??
why make a new flickr gallery when the site you sourced them from already has one?
I wonder why they had much stricter photography restrictions (not just what could be photographed but how it could be photographed) this year compared to years past.
Maybe it has to do with the growth of bootlegs and worries that allowing detailed photos so early in the year would give the bootleggers a much greater ability to get knock-offs of the new product out the door (possibly even before the real thing)
