What is the main reason for your visit today?

Posted by ,

So we can get a better understanding of why you visit Brickset...

What is the main reason for your visit today?

To read the home page news and reviews
To browse/search the database
To manage my set/minifig collection
To find LEGO bargains
Another reason (let us know in the comments)

Thank you!

By in France,

Almost for all reasons mentioned here. I manage my collection, read news, and search the database for details (especially for french Brickipedia), none of them would be "main reason" because I do them almost fairly. Brickset is really useful for that kind of things.

By in Netherlands,

Me too, I like going through database and fill my wanted list, also I like to see if some designers added new comments.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Yes, all of the above.
Love Brickset!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Yeah, the survey is really flawed in that I use Brickset daily for 'All of the above'.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I visit Brickset every day, it's in my system. Prime reason is to see if there are any new articles on the main page. And since I have nothing to add at this moment, responding to this poll and placing this reaction will be all I do here today.

I think.

By in Canada,

My top two would be read the news and reviews and look throughout the the data base and also look at my own collection.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It asks what is the 'main reason'...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Can we pick more than one? I came for news but then went through the set database to figure out what to buy later today...

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

All of the above, Brickset is one of the best sorces for all LEGO news and reviews on the internet! .

BTW @Huw sent you a email, thanks :-)

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

All top 4 answers in the survey. :)

Gravatar
By in Spain,

I have answered according to the question : "main" and "today". Perhaps tomorrow the reason is another one...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I was torn between To Read Reviews and News and Another Reason, which would be it's a heck of a lot more entertaining than doing my work!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wish read news and read reviews were two different options...

I use the brick by brick app to manage my collection. Honestly I come here to read Lego related news. Reviews aren't my thing.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Your website is always among the first to give information on new sets. That's why I check in every day.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I came for almost all of those reasons but mainly to see what new news there was about new sets.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Not surprised by the results so far, nor the order they're in.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I use Brickset for all the reasons. Especially research and management of my set. One of my favorite things about the individual set listings is the original manufacturers price when I am considering buying retired sets.

Gravatar
By in France,

For new sets in database

Gravatar
By in United States,

The main reason I use the site is for what it is meant for. I have my collection, I read (almost ) every article, I look in the database, I write reviews, and I comment if I feel that I should. I have been coming here about 3-5 times a day for about 5 years now, just to use all of the sites features. That is my reason for coming here, and I hope that remains my reason to come here- to enjoy everything about it.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Brickset is the best LEGO website IMO so I visit for all the reasons listed. In the end I went for news and reviews, particularly because I really enjoy and trust the reviews. They definitely influence my purchases so the bargain checker is really useful too.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

I interpreted it as 'what is the main reason you surfed here now'.

I've already been in Brickset today to check some news, then to add to my database, then another time to check data about a certain set, then again to check someone's wish list and now I've got quiet time its to check and properly read the news, which is what I've answered.

I guess most times overall I'm coming for the database but enjoy the articles as well.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Came to check the news, check items in the database and to see what sets are on offer. Do this almost every day and on the odd occasions that I get something new I update my set list.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Yeah, I read it as asking for the purpose of this particular visit, and on this occasion I was here to check the news/reviews, as it's my first trip to Brickset today.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm here for news everyday, but I probably use the database about 3-4 days a week, and on those days I'll be using the site a lot more.

Gravatar
By in United States,

LOL, the main reason is that a new post popped up in my feed so I came here to read it (and click on the survey).

Gravatar
By in Finland,

I'm always looking forward to reviews and new sets being announced, but I also couldn't live without the great database which I use daily.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Main reason I come here is as I'm on my way to the forums!

Gravatar
By in Greece,

I chose option A (to read the news and reviews) this time but that's after I have spent countless hours/days all these years, in the awesome database as well ;-) !!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

This was so hard to choose! I come here for all of these reasons, daily! So glad I'm on the largest Lego database site!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I use all the features equally with the exception of the deals tool.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This would be a good little survey on the sidebar every day. Or some fun survey like do you collect -minifigs, -sets, -loose bricks etc. bad example. But you get the idea

Gravatar
By in United States,

Seeing as my choice is polling at 2%, I've learned that I'll check my opinions regarding news / editorial / advertorial content at the door! I'm NOT the target audience or user!

Fascinating. Thanks for posting!

Gravatar
By in United States,

glaring omission: forums

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Well, I came here to answer this question... :)

I have Bricksets RSS feed in my reader and look through the lists of headlines every second day or so, if something sounds interesting I read it.

Other than that, I visit the site after every LEGO purchase to update my inventory.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

Definately to manage my collection. However, I will always read the news on the way through if there is an interesting article.

Gravatar
By in Spain,

Today only for the news, but most of the days I'm here to check my inventory,

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I keep checking, everyday, in the hope that a worthy 40th anniversary technic set might be revealed that no one knows about. But now the second wave is almost upon us, I think my hopes have been dashed.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Love Brickset. I always check it, sippin' my coffee (Starbucks House Blend...I'm real adventurous ;), sit back think of Huw. We're friends. He calls me El LegoDaddyO, I call him The HuwMeister...the HUWmongous, stuff like that.
I check Brickset like in the late evening. Oh, occasionally the early evening, but usually the late evening - or the mid-evening. Just the early evening, mid-evening and late evening. Occasionally, early afternoon, early mid-afternoon, or perhaps the late-midafternoon. Oh, sometimes the early-mid-late-early morning. But never at dusk! Never at dusk, I would never do that.

I visit (at least) once a day for news, articles, then other days manage my collection (when I purchase new stuff only), then reviews (int/ext), and previously to throw up an occasional review myself (need to get back to that more often).
What I do like to do is go to a set page on something I don't have in my collection and love the handy links to eBay auctions of that item. Some have really paid off in picking something up for a good price. This also goes for their handy Amazon sale page. I've gotten some good deals there too!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I check the website daily for news and reviews, but it never was that way. I would only come on here to look at the new sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Came to check the news. Really don't care about reviews since I have my own opinions on various sets and am unlikely to have them changed by other people's reviews.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I came to check the news for new sets, and every time I get a new set the first this I do in add it to my brickset collection.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Though I picked to read home page news as my main reason it's nearly always a combo of that and to use the database, meaning that it's primarily both of those for me for the majority of my visits. As amazon discounts are part of the news I see, sometimes the info in that will direct me on to look at other deal info.

I am most likely to use the database to see what parts are in a set. And which sets contain a specific part. I look at set info more often than minifig info. Which is weird I guess since I love figs!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Today, and often, I mostly log on to check for any updates on where to find new LEGO products like the the LEGO Ninjago Movie sets, but sadly very little is actually posted regarding that subject. If new sets are showing up in Toys 'R' Us for example, I would love to see an article about that!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

If a person's main reason to visit this site is anything other than to read the news, then it is highly likely they won't have seen this survey to participate in it. So the survey seems kind of flawed. That doesn't bother me at all though!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

^ My thoughts precisely. If you're a forum-dweller, you'll immediately head for the forums; if you're here to add a new set to your collection, you'll start typing its name in the search box. I don't use this site for the deals and events advertised due to my location, but still visit daily for the news. I probably spend more time in the collection analysis section overall (it's fun!) but since I came across this page while checking news, I have to choose that option.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I use Brickset for all these things, but I check for the news every day, so I picked that option. I love this site because it's the best Lego site ever and is extremely reliable.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Front page news and then on to the forum.

Oh, and since you are asking for feedback and user habits, I only viewed the first page of news and this was the only thread i clicked on. But I do like to scan the pictures...if a pix interest me, then I'l click the thread

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

The main reason for me to visit Brickset varies, but in most cases I am looking for Lego related news and articles, or the ever-so-good reviews.

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

The main reason I registered was to catalog my collection.

Gravatar
By in Portugal,

With the exception of "To find LEGO bargains" I visit Brickset for all the other reasons. It's a must visit site, every day. ;-) Keep the good work!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I do not have "a" main reason, either....

Gravatar
By in France,

Impossible to select more of one reason. But for Brickset, for me it's :
1) - To browse/search the database (80%) : inventory et pics of the sets references
2) - To read the home page news and reviews
3) - for the price of lego market (BL, amazon, Lego)

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Ditto

Gravatar
By in Slovakia,

Today's visit? You mean you visit Brickset only once per day?
Well, this time I am visiting to answer this poll.
At other times and days it depends on if some interesting article comes up in the RSS feed or if I just want to check out some LEGO sets' images / reviews or to manage my collection.

Gravatar
By in United States,

LOVE this website! Thanks for all you do. Would love one feature that you don't offer - the ability to remove minifigures in sets I own. I often buy a set and pawn off a couple of the figures. It shows as OWNED in my collection when in reality I don't have the figure. Thanks for considering.

Gravatar
By in Brazil,

Like most I do all of these things, but for most part it is about the newest news. Keep up the good work,

Gravatar
By in United States,

Lately I've been visiting to download instruction pdf's. Picked up a collection of parts at a yard sale a few weeks back, and I've been using bricklink to review parts from sets (reviewing rare part/color combos to figure out which sets are in the box I bought) and then using brickset's pdf database to enjoy the building process.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I chose "Browsing the Database", because I appreciate that it uses official part numbers, images and colour names to show me what's available (or NOT available, as is often the case) when trawling Bricks and Pieces for an order.

On a tangental note: I really miss being able to directly link to bricks on BaP - that made it possible to compile orders from my own offline DB with a few clicks. How does Brickset check for availability nowadays? Is there an official LEGO API that I probably can't use because the referring domain will always be "localhost"?

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

I love the news feed and reviews. The member comments are a big part of the value there also I think.

@Gnac Have a look at ip.conf or equivalent. (Details will vary depending on your system.) Might help get around localhost issues.

Gravatar
By in United States,

To be fair, if their main reason wasn't to read the news, then they may not have seen this artical

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Main reason was to visit the forum, but I'm guessing you treat that as a separate site. I just think of it all rolled up as Brickset.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

For today's visit I was looking for information on the new Technic sets as it is less than a week till they are released. I had hoped to find an inventory but there were also no instructions yet on the Shop at Home website (this might be to deter clone-brand copyists).
What I did find was that I am not alone in thinking 42070 is a lame duck as far as Technic sets go. It has nothing I don't have already, except for the Azure colour that I don't need. I just hope that in 2018 there will be a worthy successor to the Arocs truck 42043 with plenty of pneumatic parts. How are those parts obtained as extras? They are always out of stock on Shop at Home.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

More or less all of the above, but I most often visit Brickset to read the latest Lego news, and I have also found it to be the best place for the most recent sets too.
