NEXO Knights set revealed in LEGO Life magazine

Posted by ,

Brickset member Brainslugged has sent us this picture from the latest LEGO Life magazine of 72006 Axl's Rolling Arsenal, one of next year's NEXO Knights sets.

The highlight seems to be the small spiders that are launched using a 1x1 round plate shooter from the antagonist's flying machine.

Rumour has it that, in the UK, these will be available in brand stores and John Lewis only which, if true, probably signals that they are not selling well and those released in 1HY 2018 will be the last.

See a larger image after the break.

Is that a golden shield on the left hand corner?

Those spider pieces look awesome!

72003 'Berserker Bomber' is also shown in the December store Calendar. I noticed it isn't named in the database.

By in Poland,

You know whats funny? This is thebiggest set of this wave and it has only 3 minifigs. That's unusual...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

From that angle, it reminds me of a Mark IV tank from WW1. I wonder how similar it will seem from other angles!

By in Norway,

Not to mention that those powers aren't all that "new" - drop Beat being in 70357 knight on castle, and Standing Ovation in Battlesuit lance as well as Jestro hq.

Thought is was strange when they updated the app in September to start teasing "virus" storyline - before the stone story had even aired in Norway.

By in Viet Nam,

seems like another theme is going down without having all of it's initial sets released

@Andhe Fixed, thanks!

By in Spain,

Those spiders look like Warhammer 40k's Necron spiders!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Those spiders look great! But the set looks terrible.

By in Japan,

I just wanna know when they will bring a proper castle theme back..? I'm tired of this hightech pseudo castle nexo knights...

By in United States,

I hope this -if it is- final wave comes to the US.

By in United States,

Cyberbyters and Tech Critters, huh? I have to say, the story at least gives me flashbacks to the late 90s/early 00s, when Lego did stuff like RoboRiders and CyberSlam.

I thought Nexo Knights would be more popular than it was. It’s sad because I think it’s very creative - at least as creative as Ninjago. But I don’t think it sold well. There’s always product on the shelves and it only seems to disappear when it’s deeply discounted.

Both my kids like other themes much more, including City themes.

By in United States,

Hopefully the rumours are true and this is the last wave for NK. Maybe we'll see a proper castle and/or space themes in 2019.

By in United States,

I like the tank! I think @paul_merton is right in that it's styled after a Mk. IV from WWI. That would be terrific to see in LEGO form!

As for the Nexo Knights line itself it does seem to have really petered out here in the US within the past year. Not near as prominent in stores and not as many sets. Almost as if stores are ordering a case of each set and when they run out they are not replacing it. A shame as I have come to really like the series. My oldest son, after being pretty interested, has lost any interest in it. :( So, all of those sets I got for him on closeout in February of this year I'll have to figure out what to do with them.

By in United States,

I wish they would have done a couple more location based sets instead of just vehicles for this theme. That's what Ninjago does right that this theme got so wrong. Not one single set with a villager home, or a cool magical waterfall, or anything.
Hopefully they make one more wave after this that will include some terrain.

Out of 10 I would give this theme.
Potential for greatness. 5.
Potential for disaster. 10.
Everything in the first wave was too blue or orange.

The stone monsters were a good move.
But the whole range needed more Locations rather than Vehicles.
The Vehicles as locations that were done, just do not seem to work in my mind.

RIP Nexo Knights, and roll on a new fantasy castle theme.
Although a Roman, Greek theme should be great, if Lego did history?

@peterlmorris: I think Nexo has been reasonably popular, but even popular themes often have a tendency to linger. I can't tell you how many times I've seen people speculate that Ninjago or Friends isn't selling well because of seeing those sets on clearance. But those themes are in fact extraordinarily successful. Nexo Knights, on the other hand, seems to follow a more typical "big bang" pattern — an initial flash-in-the-pan success that steadily winds down over the next couple years.

Like Chima, Nexo Knights' popularity may also be somewhat regional. East Asian knock-off brands like Lepin, Lele, and Bela have been persistently cloning Nexo Knights sets and figures, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's been a highly popular IP in that part of the world.

I will be looking out for Nexo Knights sets on clearance in the coming months, since the Knighton Castle and Stone Colossus are the main 2016 sets still on my wish list that I haven't gotten yet.

@MattJek82: Castle themes seem to be refreshed in three-year cycles (KK2 in 2004, Fantasy Era in 2007, Kingdoms in 2010, Castle relaunch in 2013, and Nexo Knights in 2016), so it's probably safe to say that there will be a new castle theme in 2019. Unless it's postponed to make more room for The LEGO Movie Sequel…

@linkf78 - at first I thought it was a recolor of the newer style SW Jetpack, but now not so sure. What Ninjago did so well, as others pointed out, was great location based sets and sets that held cross-theme appeal. By cross-theme I mean they just looked great, and appealed to not only Ninjago fans but to general LEGO fans as well. When Ninjago came out I never imagined I'd be buying any of the sets, let alone spending the majority of my LEGO budget on it. But here I am, w/Destiny's Bounty, Ninjago City, Temple of Airjitzu, and a few smaller others. If Nexo Knights would have done a big castle w/minimal tech decorations (which could have been easily removed) that would have sold. Or as others have said a village shop or home, or magical waterfall (great idea @eggshen). As for this set the Vyro Glyder pilot gives off a definite Star Trek Borg vibe to me... which is very cool. The Mk. IV look of the tank is very cool as well, but that doesn't mean I'd buy it, unless on huge discount and then only for parts (which sadly sums up how I feel about the entire Nexo Knights theme).

By in United States,

The theme is a complete failure, however the bad guy designs are amazing. The bad guys are vampires and look great from the leaks. There is also another Nexo 2018 set on the back of the December 2017 LEGO Store calendar in the USA.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Yeah I highly doubt we’ll see a CLASSIC space or a CLASSIC castle them anytime soon.

By in United States,

@Venunder: I really like the Roman/Greek idea, I'm surprised that (other than CMFs) Lego hasn't explored it further.

Lego Designer: "Roman/Greek? You mean like...Cyber-Roman, or Space-Greek?"

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow, and another instance of "Yep, this theme sucks and is being canceled." Don't sprain your arms patting yourselves on the back.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@CM4Sci have you heard anything about the falcon release this november? TLG sent out a notice but that was weeks ago. Haven't heard anything since. I hope they have enough for everyone

Gravatar
By in United States,

I would like to wait until this set gets discounted and buy it for the treads....really good for ball machine contraptions.

Gravatar
By in United States,

A shame we never got the wood or water monsters teased in the early books. They looked way cooler than the stone ones, though these cyber fellows may give them a run for their money.

I always meant to get some NEXO Knights, but the BIONICLE Reboot and the two new LEGO Movies have eaten up all my funds. A real shame, but I'll definitely hunt down Jestro's Lair at some point.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I think it looks great. This, and others, were already leaked about a month ago btw. I'm a big fan of Nexo Knights, and so is my son. We like the builds, most are transformable and/or combinable; stuff kids love, most of the time.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Just getting into Nexo and this set looks great.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Hang on a second... That doesn't look like a regular 4x4 wedge (see black flyer), it looks CURVED!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

@ venunder a roman,Greek theme would be great but it's unlikely because it wouldn't have enough vehicles,a theme marketed to adults of great historic events Though might sell.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Didn't they stop updating Nexo Knights?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

^ Yup, that's why there is a whole new wave coming next year.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I can't wait till Nexo is killed.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@GvH - I just picked mine up today so my LEGO store had some for the people on the list.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Isn't this line being released exclusively outside the US? Disappointing if so.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm not sure what you mean MegaLucario. Outside the USA it's supposed to be only released in certain retail stores, like LEGO Brand Store. Kind of like a TRU exclusive theme if you will. However if you worry that they won't be released in the USA, they will, it's release is on the back of a LEGO Store calendar.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ah, thank you for the info! There was a rumor that this wave was not being released in the US.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Hmm - it wouldn't surprise me if Nexo Knights ceased trading in general retail in the UK. I'm pretty sure organised stock levels aren't the reason why the Nexo Knights shelves in every store are always full and barely touched. In comparison, Ninjago sets still appear to shift much more easily. I kind of like the concept of space Knights but the way the theme has panned out just hasn't quite worked - the lack of location sets probably didn't help but I feel like perhaps the line should've hued closer to Castle than Space in some cases.

By in Netherlands,

I am very excited for a new wave of Nexo Knights, something about it just makes me feel young again, like having the Fright Knights' castle as a kid. Something about it just so creative and I feel it is something I've lacked with the past Castle-themed sets. It's further away from the 'regular' castle stuff, and I absolutely love it for that.

But then again, that's just what I feel about it. It's just a bit disappointing to see so many comments like "I hope this theme goes away", which I think is pretty senseless. I mean it's okay if you don't like a theme, but just like I don't like boring plain regular castle themes, but keep in mind it's not fun to read stuff like that, especially trashtalking the theme on a post announcing a new wave for it, intended for the fans to be excited about.

I could go on a well-supported tirade on how regular castle themes are dull and repetitive, and that saying that a high-tech blue castle isn't a 'proper' castle only proves your own lack of imagination, but I won't, because it's my opinion, and you have yours. For a long time I felt a sense of worry because comments from other people kept saying bad things about it, and I really didn't expect a new wave, so hearing there will not only be a new wave, but also new enemies (and jestro is a good guy now!!! :D) reminded me of something important.

Let's just appreciate what we have and let others appreciate what they have. Love things for what they are, and don't waste your time on hating things for what they aren't.

I love Nexo Knights for what it is.

By in Switzerland,

Awesome! This looks like a great Warhammer 40k Land Raider! I am not excited by the Nexo Knights color schemes, but there have been some great models for a space theme and great armor and creatures for a fantasy castle theme.
