The new rollercoaster pieces

As a non-Super Heroes fan, the most exciting aspect of the forthcoming 70922 The Joker Manor from my point of view is the new rollercoaster pieces and their potential for use in a more appealing fairground set.

Just after the set was announced I wrote an article about them so I was interested to see that Elspeth over at The Brothers Brick, who has been sent a review copy ahead of its release, has written an article and produced a video which demonstrates how a perpetually running rollercoaster can be made.

Her methods are crude, as she freely admits, but certainly show what's possible. I therefore can't want to see what Jamie (probably) comes up with for the summer fairground release!

You can view the video after the break.

We haven't been sent the set ahead of release but nevertheless we'll be reviewing it as soon as we can get our hands on it.

Check out the video of the roller coaster that she posted. The motor is flying. It looks like it has great potential though. I would wait until there is a creator set with it.
@ Hectorus Vectorus Maximus there is a way to build a monorail. Go to https://www.4dbrix.com/products/monorail/monorail.php
I suggest you get a used monorail on eBay and then add the parts as needed from 4dbrix. There is an article on Brickset about 4dbrix.

haha the motor was indeed flying and my methods are crude (no offence taken) but I'll leave the finer details to the more Technically minded. How do I slow down the motor ;-)

Hopefully this is something Lego can build on over time as new sets are released, so we can build all kinds of roller coasters.

I hope they make side on and looping element tracks one day,
Joker manor is really cool looking,

That lemon slice might have to be mine if I can find it on bricks n pieces too..

Awesome, a nice set indeed.

@Hectorus Vectorus Maximus: I can't see how you'd expect to make a monorail using a track system with two separate rails. Kind of goes against the spirit of the thing.

Impressive! I can't wait for the pieces to find their way into cheaper sets so fans can build their own coasters easier, some packs of them like the ones with train tracks would be great (though I doubt they'd do that before they get another set or two out to showcase them.)

By in Czechia,

We definately need straight 45 degree ascending/descending piece(s) as well to fit between the steep ramp pieces.

@Edemontes I can think of several ways to slow down the motor (any GBC expert could probably can come up with better solutions :)):

1. gear it down
2. Run it off the 9v train power supplies controller 4548-1. You would need an adapter wire 8886 if you're using a PF motor.

Wow,lego has certainly outdone themselves this time! Does the actual set come with a conveyor belt for pulling it up?

The PF rechargeable battery can control motor speed without a remote control.

Considering nobody has done this before, I thought the reviewer did a great job of making a working coaster. Kudos!

Catwheeler, if you have a read of my post on TBB, you will see the parts I needed :-) As a non-Technic builder I have minimal parts to play with (ie a PF battery pack and an m-motor) and a small pile of Technic chain link that I had in my collection. https://flic.kr/p/21xYYjT

I slowed down my carousel (and can run backwards) by using the rechargeable battery box.

Really hope someone will put out instructions to make it run for those of us will little to no skill. ?? please, pretty please.

By in Germany,

It might be crude, but it's a very good start, and indeed a sign that a working coaster is feasible and doable without too much effort.
Now we only need that 45 degree slope piece (or better an even steeper angle still).

The steep angles only have each other to connect to in the middle, yeah? Don't line up with the other pieces?

I'm intrigued, as one of my long-term Lego goals has always been to build a roller coaster around a room. But at the same time, I still kindof want to build it entirely from scratch :D I suppose I'll have to wait and see what they come out with next.

Nice. With 3 cars there is enough friction that it needs the higher drop, or the lift momentum plus a smaller drop, to get round a 180-degree curve. More cars might be tricky unless the weight of passengers added enough to the momentum.
It will be nice to develop a smoother way to put the chain through the hill tracks, perhaps with a 1M or 2M tube as a roller at each end.
@ Hectorus Vectorus Maximus there is a way to do never-obsolete pure-LEGO monorail and make it faster, more reliable and with more curve radii than the 1990s one: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=6276761 and go UP for more pics.
