City Advent Calendar: Day 9

Posted by ,

LEGO City Advent Calendars have been released every year since 2005 and one might anticipate that the designers would have exhausted the possibilities for new models during that time. However, today's gift depicts something brand new and perfectly suitable for this chilly season.

Snowblowers are a common sight at this time of year, at least in the Northern hemisphere, so it is perhaps surprising that we have not seen one in a City Advent Calendar before. This model looks very realistic, featuring an angled chute for expelling snow to the side as well as grips for a minifigure and tyres with a deep tread. The chute is placed on a single stud so its direction can be adjusted depending on how you wish to display the snowblower.

Furthermore, the colour scheme of dark bluish grey, red and green looks superb. These shades feel utilitarian but are also somewhat festive. Most snowblowers include exposed impeller blades at the front so it is a shame that they are absent from this model, although the red 1x2 lattice slopes work reasonably well in my opinion. A couple of white 1x1 round tiles depicting snow would have been a nice addition too.

Overall - 4.5 - The 2017 calendar continues to maintain an impressive standard. This little snowblower includes some lovely details and could easily form part of a larger display.

Well, snowblowers aren't very common in Northern Ireland, but given the snow over the last few days, I'm sure lots of people wish there were more!

I managed to build this without looking at the instructions as there was only really one way to fit all the pieces together. Still had no idea what it was when I'd finished.

Where I live, it just snowed over the night, our first real snow of the year, so it is freaky that a snowblower is what was opened today.

A really good snow blower which could double as a leaf blower in warmer areas.
A nice little model, especially with the festive colours.

Great model, though I wish the exhaust was red too to make it look more realistic.
