Star Wars Advent Calendar: Day 9

Posted by ,

Yesterday's LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar entry was rather disappointing in my opinion. Hopefully the gift on day nine will be far more impressive, matching the brilliant standard set during the first week...

This tiny version of Rey's speeder represents a definite return to form! The rounded engine housing looks superb and I like the air intake, represented by two dark bluish grey 1x1 slopes, which is fitted between a couple of dark red pieces at the front. Exposed studs on either side allow you to attach some accessories if you wish, replicating the salvage net seen in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

I love the stacked turbojet engines powering the vehicle and the subtle pearl silver details in this area look great, as does the dark red 1x2 plate that forms stabiliser vanes. The trans-clear windscreen is a pleasing inclusion too, although I am not sure what the light bluish grey 1x1 tile with curved corners is intended to represent. Nevertheless, it is nice to have a couple more of these useful parts as a spare is also included.

Overall - 4.5 - Rey's speeder is a distinctive vehicle and is instantly recognisable at this tiny scale. There is plenty of detail included and the model feels very tactile so is perfect for play.

This little build looks really neat! Although, I wish you had made another photo from the back as I would like to see how the rear end is attached to the rest of the body. The medium stone grey pieces on top of the silver round 1x1 plates don't look like round 1x1 plates, but I wonder what those pieces are.

I really like and enjoyed the technique used to build this one. Clever use of the "camera like" bricks for the core linked to the two 2x2 plates with hole on the side... Good idea indeed and a pleasant mini build. Once more, it'll look good on display next to the set version and the medium size from LSW magazine.

I was torn between whether I liked the Ghost or the First Order Transporter better, but I have a new favorite build now. Part of it is that I really like Rey's Speeder in general (75099 was the first TFA set I bought), but I absolutely love this build. It does a really nice job of capturing the essence of the vehicle in a smaller size. Just wonderful.

Ghost is still the best, but I love this one too!

Would have loved to have a clear 1x2 plate on bottom providing the hover effect rather than the grey grille— but still an awesome mini build and existential joy after yesterday's POS.

I agree with the 4.5 score. Certainly one of the best in this calendar so far. Great use of the 'camera' pieces to form the middle of the model. This is my first time having the tile with the rounded corners and I'm pleased with those. Superb model!

Another great looking build just like the transporter and Ghost. This calendar is nice because we are seeing new builds for the first time from the newer movies and shows.

This is a great build and will make an excellent addition to Luke's Landspeeder. They could have an epic race.
