City Advent Calendar: Day 14

Posted by ,

Our third minifigure arrived on day thirteen so I think another model would be an appropriate gift today. Perhaps it will have some relationship with yesterday's coast guard who currently seems a little out of place among so many festive items.

This miniature container ship continues the nautical theme established yesterday and fits with the selection of toys already revealed. It features plenty of realistic details, including trans-red and trans-green navigation lights to indicate port and starboard as well as a trans-medium blue bridge and a row of colourful containers which look rather nice.

Furthermore, I like the colour combination of blue and white for the hull and bridge superstructure which reminds me of the cargo vessel from 7994 LEGO City Harbour. The containers are formed using 1x2 bricks and are easily removable so in that respect I think this model offers reasonable play value. However, the model looks slightly awkward without the shipping containers in place and I would have liked to see some navigation equipment on top of the bridge, even if it was only represented by a 1x1 round plate.

Overall - 4.5 - I am very pleased with today's container ship model. Its bright colour scheme is very eye-catching and I love the containers but there is perhaps room for a little more detail.

To me, it doesn't look so refined, but I guess it's a lot harder to achieve that "perfect look" in micro-scale

That's a cute little build.

Actually, yeah, I really like that one. I took one look at the picture, and yep, that's a container ship.

Six 1x1 bricks rather than three 1x2s could possibly have made it look a bit better as well.

Like everyone I have been pretty impressed with the microbuilds in both this calendar as well as the SW one. I plan on putting them in my City Lego stores as part of the decor.

@ jonmdudley
That’s a good idea I think I will do that to.
