Christmas Build-Up: Day 14
Posted by TheBrickPal,
40253 Christmas Build-Up has been noteworthy for some bizarre models that have directly been based on Christmas or wintertime in general, and some where only loose connections can be made.
However, the end of the second week aims to change all of that with the depiction of the opposite extreme: somewhere I’m sure all of us in the northern hemisphere would rather be right now...
This lighthouse on a sandy shore is magnificent, with a respectable micro scale and some foliage on the coast surrounding the tall, red and white structure.
I very much appreciate the layering of the colors and the minimalist nature of the lighthouse, consisting of only six pieces. It is topped with a black radar dish for the beacon, which provides stark contrast.
I truly cannot think of much to improve the model at this scale. Particularly appealing is the 1x1 plant-style circular plate, which is quite useful.
Overall - 4.5 - one of the best models so far, and it isn’t even Christmas-themed! Perhaps I just wish it would be summer again badly - what, with the miserable cold and all!

Not exactly seasonally-themed, but a good model nonetheless. And a darn side better than the macabre snowman's head from yesterday.
Very nice lighthouse build, and as a bonus much less traumatizing than a severed head!
There is a slight Christmas connection. Scrooge and the Ghost of Christmas Present visit a lighthouse during their grand tour.
I think I’ll buy the christmas build up next year. Its really well done :-)
In Denmark we have a tradition of advent calendars in TV, being a series consisting of 24 episodes. Danes of a certain age will remember the lighthouse of "Jullerup Færgeby" from 1974. It is even red and white. You can watch the intro here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhRXma-Vy38
So for a Dane, a lighthouse might be related to Christmas.
I love this build. I think now this is my favorite so far in the calendar. Not sure what this miserable cold is you speak of @TheBrickPal. Out here in CA it has ranged from the 70s-80s the last couple of weeks ;)
^ Try living in New England! :-)
