Star Wars Advent Calendar: Day 20

Posted by ,

We have seen a selection of vehicles and characters belonging to both the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire during the last couple of days. Such variation leaves me to wonder which faction today's gift will be aligned with...

The Imperial TX-225 GAVw combat assault tank made a relatively brief but memorable appearance in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story before later featuring in Star Wars: Rebels. Furthermore, 75152 Imperial Assault Hovertank was among my favourite Star Wars sets of 2016 so I am very pleased to see a miniature version of the tank, particularly one that is so immediately recognisable and detailed. The adjustable laser cannons on either side look superb and I like the orange storage crate, represented by a 1x2 ingot element, on the back of the tank.

The armoured driving compartment is a little narrower than it appears in the movie but I appreciate that some space has been left on either side and the 1x1 round plate depicting a hatch on top looks great. Both the driving compartment and the crate are fitted to a single stud and you will find two matching studs beneath the model. These elevate the tank as though it is raised on treads which is a nice detail, although the central positioning of the studs means that the model tends to rock from side to side.

Overall - 4.0 - This is an excellent rendition of the Imperial combat assault tank but it does not offer quite as much play value as the fighter craft revealed over the last two days.

I like this one.

Would look even better if the top part was two studs wide, but I can think of a way to build that, so I guess it's alright. A solid 4.0

Yeah that 2016 set was built nice and this looks great as well. Some of these are great for builders with a small amount of parts. As you could build your own from the image.

I like the ingot in a different colour - this is a great piece for adding texture to flat areas or on the sides of walls (with snots)...

Yeah, it's a solid 4. I like the "sideways" build. I love the orange ingot element.

The orange ingot came in the Ronin MEC last year.

Meh. I see just grey wall with orange spot.

Grey box/5.

Although, this is more the fault of the insipid design of nu-Star Wars and Disney rather than Lego.

^You can't really blame Disney when it was Lucas that started the grey vehicles.

By in Netherlands,

Agreed with the above comments. I like the shape, but the drab colours let it down, especially when we have things like the Republic hover tank that are brighter.

I don't see the 'bland' colour scheme as an issue. Lucus and Disney used grey and beige to make the films feel more authentic and real. After all, how often do you see a bright red, lime green, and white tank on Earth?

I buit a MOC of this at about the same scale once. I lost it though.

People just can't make their minds up between the drab, worn look of the OT and the bright colours of the PT. All I know is, this was a good vehicle, and a great mini model. The orange ingot is new to me, as a general non-Ninjago purchaser.
