UCS Y-wing Starfighter revealed in Polish certified store

Posted by ,

We've been sent this image of the next UCS Star Wars set, 75181 Y-wing Starfighter, which will be released worldwide over the May the Fourth weekend.

Clearly, the certified store in Poland, in which the photo was taken, has jumped the gun somewhat given that it is yet to be officially revealed.

Superficially, it looks very similar to the last UCS Y-Wing, 10134 Y-wing Attack Starfighter. Let us know what you think of it in the comments.

An image showing it in its store setting, for the avoidance of doubt, can be found after the break.

By in United Kingdom,

A revised UCS was long overdue for what remains one of the most underrated vehicles in Star Wars, glad to see LEGO is finally rectifying that mistake.

By in United States,

This looks great! When can I buy one in the USA?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Day one purchase for me.

By in United Kingdom,

Anything from Star Wars is always a blessing
Lego or otherwise,
I, d love to get this and slave one,
I can't wait to see it in the U. K..

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks great and looking forward to more pics. However, I'm very glad I am not a SW completionist anymore, the wallet just can't take it. On a somewhat related note I was lucky enough to grab two SW constraction figures (Baze Malbus and Chirrut Imwe) at my local Kmart, which is closing, for 60% off! Never been into the constraction figures much but for that price, and since they were the only two LEGO sets left in the store, I couldn't pass it up :)

By in United Kingdom,

I’m liking the new UCS box style with the black motif. It’s similar in style to the first UCS ones they released where they wanted to aim at a more adult audience.
Y-Wing will be a day one purchase for me.

By in United States,

So much for getting the UCS Cloud City set we were hoping for:(

I was really happy with 75172 and can’t justify spending $200 for a UCS version. It does look good, but I will have to pass.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Cloud City will no doubt be later in the year and similar to the Assault On Hoth set :-/

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I retrieved my unbuilt UCS X-Wing from my storage locker a couple of weeks ago specifically in anticipation of this announcement. It would be nice to see both side by side. Can't help feeling that we need a 3-stud diameter R2 head to get the scale right.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Will not be getting this; to expensive.
The Rogue 1 one does the y-wing justice anyway.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The original UCS Y Wing I have is better...in my opinion. Hard to see all the differences here but it’s a firm maybe.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Honestly, why do we not have a UCS Cloud City yet? The last (and so far only)Cloud City was in 2003, while we just got a Y-Wing last year.

In addition, the more recent UCS Snowspeeder wasn’t exactly a huge hit. Overall, I’m pretty disappointed with this set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

When will we get a UCS set based on the new movies?

A UCS Rogue One Shuttle, Kylo Ren’s Shuttle, or Supremacy would be amazing.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is this picture taken in a store? Is it purchasable there?

Gravatar
By in United States,

For all those commenting about the UCS cloud city, it was never going to be the May 4th UCS release. It has always been scheduled for this fall.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Why no new canopy?

Gravatar
By in France,

It looks very nice of course to me Star wars fan and Lego theme collectioner. Bu not my range of price, too expensive for a single set. In one word : UCS! But as usual with these series, looks like a master piece IMO, talking about details, and final result so close to the original design in universe. I cannot imagine how exalting it must be to have all the parts and colors you want / need and try to make a lego version of a model you love.

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

Yet another UCS remake or remaster and no UCS AT-AT (even though I don't have space for the set).

Gravatar
By in United States,

Yay, another boring UCS set :|

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I usually skip larger-than-minifig-scale UCS sets because of the large blank spaces they usually have (Snowspeeder, TIE). This Y-Wing looks like it has tons of greebling, though, which is great! If it's the usual 250 CAD, I'll probably end up pulling the trigger on it.

EDIT:
How big would a minifig-scale Y-Wing be? This is something I've never been sure of.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Y-Wing is my favorite Star Wars ship. Time to start saving up then!

Gravatar
By in France,

From a TLG perspective the litmus test is going to be how this is will stack up against the previous UCS release ? Price point and also from design upgrades. The result, red, blue, who knows, it'll be interesting... I don't have the previous version, so I'll purchase the latest offering.

Gravatar
By in France,

Looks great

Gravatar
By in Germany,

For me it's always the question if an UCS is minfigscale or bigger. I don't buy anything that's too big. This looks like it may have the right scale, but I am not sure, if it's not a tad bit too big. What are the others thinking here? Right size or bigger?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like it, and will probably get it, even though I just bought 75172 right after Christmas (got it for $35, so a pretty good deal).

I'm really disappointed there still seems to be no UCS A-Wing on the horizon though.

Gravatar
By in Norway,

pretty good! probably quite overpriced. The studs on the front of the engines are a bit off putting and I feel the cockpit could've been done better. But the canopy appears to be printed on the sides as well, unlike 75172, so that's good. Now all i need is an A-Wing!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Look at the canopy, there's a pilot there. So is this minifig scale?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like it, but the only UCS vehicle sets I have any interest in buying are the minifigure scale ones (like the UCS MF or Slave 1) or location-based sets (like the Ewok Village or Death Star). I do love the box design that they're doing for UCS sets now: it makes them look very professional.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love the Y-Wing but it doesn't do anything different than the System scale one that can be found for $40.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks good. Still, it's not as if the original version was crying out for an update.
I really wish LEGO would stop rehashing older UCS sets while still not giving us a UCS A-Wing.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Nooooo! I was really hoping for an improved, sleeker head design over the last one, with the low profile characteristic of a Y-wing. Doesn't look like it's changed much though. Everything else looks great, but maybe I'll save $200 for once...

Gravatar
By in Jordan,

Looks quite nice, but I'm satisfied with my R1 version :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Agree about the A-wing, since it's the only rebel fighter I haven't got. Not sure about this, as 10134 still looks pretty good. Honestly, I think there are some aspects of this one that are steps backwards, such as the front and ends of the nacelles...
Truthfully, you could have one of each, since the rebellion's Y-wings were such trashheaps (though I love them) that you could get such variation from one to the next.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks awesome! I agree with @TheMikeAwakens; that cockpit definitely needs to be fixed.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Looks great but I think my main issue is that the last system scale y-wing was so good! Without seeing it in more detail, I doesn't look like it is amazing enough compared to the last standard release.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

Lepin will have those pumped out well before Lego can.

Go on Lego, stop them if ya can.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I was just thinking how nice it would be to get a revised Y-Wing. Now just give us an A-Wing already so we can complete our alphabet!

I gotta say on closer inspection, this doesn't look all that much better than the current 75172 minifig scale version. The yellow on the nose is accomplished mostly with stickers. Sorry Lego, but you're gonna have to compete with the likes of this guy, which I just discovered a couple weeks ago: https://www.flickr.com/photos/inthert/sets/72157682345481492/

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

When do we get an a-wing? UCS is the only scale we're missing.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks nice, but like justanotherfan I primarily focus on minifig-based UCS sets. I hope we get more of those type of vehicles in the future!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Hah. Having some trouble `lately controlling your product releases, Lego?

Gravatar
By in Germany,

My favorite UCS set of recent years still remains the Slave I, yet I have always had a sweet spot for the X-Wing and Y-Wing, so might indeed get me this one as I haven't got any of the other versions yet.
As others have said, the studs on the front of the engine domes look a bit strange, but the rest looks really appealing imho.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Comparing the new vs. the old one:

- cockpit and main fuselage seem to be quite similar.
- only real change seem to be the engine pods and i think the new ones look better. On the old one, the pods are a bit too long and the section where the pods connect to the fuselage is'n realy round. Both seem to be improved.
- but what the heck, me stupid will buy it anyways ;-)

Gravatar
By in Germany,

It looks great, and the Y-wing is my favorite SW star fighter or vehicle in general. But the last System release was so great, I don't really feel like I do need this now..

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

Someone will be in..

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

Do the certified stores have this flexibility to release products ahead of its official release or is it due to an error?

Gravatar
By in United States,

The pipes on the old one were metallic bronze, now they are just brown >_<

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I agree with the earlier comment, there does appear to be a minifig behind the canopy, and a 2x2 domed droid in the fusilage, so its minifig scale right? Only small criticism is the chunky wheel part used at the rear of the engine, it looks too identifiable. I can live with the studs on the front on the engine though, it gives a little texture.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

@Griffin Kidwell: The price in Poland is PLN 979.99. For comparison: Slave I and Snowspeeder - 899.99, TIE Fighter - 929.99.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

They remade my favorite set of all time and added more to it. Day 1 purchase

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'll buy this day one. BUT, I really wish Lego would do an A-Wing and TIE Bomber.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Hopefully, LEGO will be a tad more generous this year with the "May The 4th" promotions to justify a day one purchase.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

>TIE Bomber

It took them ages to do a standard TIE fighter.. but would love to see an official bomber UCS set.

One of the first UCS sets was the TIE advanced and i would say that this version is less recognisable than the bomber. At least, the bomber is much more visible.

Also the medical frigate would be interesting because of th very unique shape. OTOH, it's probably hard to recreate in Lego.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I would just put a white round 2x2 tile on the front of the engine if you don't like the 4 studs. I also do not like the wheel part for the back. Half the time I see a new Star Wars set it makes me want to get a set that they already did. Right now I kind of want the 75172-1: Y-wing Starfighter from last year. I also want the UCS Sandcrawler from 2014, now that a smaller one is coming out this year.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

@lamby750: Not minifig scale. Y-Wings are big starfighters, but not that big, the one from last year is pretty close.

They're just doing the same thing as in the UCS X-Wings, using a minifig astromech (that's too small) because a 4x4 dome would be too big.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@Rob42, look closer, there is a minifig pilot sat in the cockpit. This is a minifig scale set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is it just me or does it look very similar to the Rogue One Y-Wing?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Not just you at all, I said something similar. It is more detailed behind the cockpit, but otherwise just looks like an enlarged version of the last System Y-Wing.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Personally, I believe it's larger than minifig scale. I think they include the minifig just to add an additional level of exclusivity, and to please the fans who complain when UCS sets don't come with any.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

^ Mike, that's what I thought, too! It seems to big. I don't like that. But perhaps someone can do the math behind it? I am no good at that. :(

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Looks decent but i’ more than likely pass on it seen as i know kinda what i was for me birthday on May 3rd :) (Downtown Diner) and i have an idea of what i may want for Christmas (Ninjago City) but i might consider about getting it later.

Also where are the figures why they not on the box?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@Rob42, Thanks, I see what you’re saying now, although they’ve plonked minifigs in the vehicle, they haven’t maintained that scale for the rest build. Therefore this would indeed make it a very large craft, bigger than what we see in the films.
I’m sort of happy with this approach though as I’m not a fan of the 4x4 Astromech dome we’ve seen before. But this is purely personal preference as I dont like big lego parts on the whole.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

This has to be minifig scale. There is a pilot sitting in the cockpit and also an r2 unit in the back. So definitely minifig scale. Which is great.
Now I can't wait for the cloud city to arrive in autumn.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Meh on remakes. Gives me more time to enjoy BB8.

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

Love it! As a late bloomer when it comes to collecting UCS LEGO, these remakes makes me very, very excited.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Quick calculation:
The last System Y-wing is 48 studs long, and is supposed to be 16 meters according to wookieepedia. Now that would make a minifig roughly 1.7 meters in height, what seems fitting.
The UCS one here looks about 70 studs, if that is the same 16 meters of in-universe, your minifig would shrink to 1.15 meters. Must be an Ewok flying this then.

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

There are so many other Star Wars vehicles to choose from, why do we keep seeing remakes of old UCS sets?
Luke’s Landspeeder
Medical Frigate
Home One
AT-AT
TIE Bomber
Etc...

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I'm not shure yet about getting this one, it looks really amazing but I already spent so much money in the past few months, you know... UCS MF.
