Ninjago City Docks: first image
Posted by Huw,
Italian toy retailer RadioKontrol has also provided us with our first look at 70657 NINJAGO City Docks.
This confirms that it'll not be a direct-to-consumer set, like Ninjago City, but instead available in all good toy stores.
The price and piece count is not stated but I suspect we are looking at north of $250 / 250€.

Gona buy this definitely :)
The pirce is high tho :O
So, what we can see from the box, it's supposed to match the back side of the Ninjago City, interesting choice.
Although smaller building designs look nice and colorful, the sum of all parts lacks the superb esthetic that the City or Airjutsu Temple has (both of them, like majority of modulars, easily stands alone as one original set). This set, on the other hand, is lacking some of that uniqueness factor.
Also, I'm disappointed that even if I combine the City and the Docks, I still don't get the full Wu-Crew (we're speaking about hundreds of dollars here).
Doesn't look $250's worth, more like $200 or below since the buildings look less than half of the Ninjago City.
Why Lego, why...
WHATS UP DOCK?
this does look good maybe £180 good not 250, but nevertheless a nice set..
Looking at Ninjago City for comparison, this set can't be more than 199 Euro. If it is, then Lego truly has lost all sense of realism.
Ninjago fan and really not impressed!
Ok, please explain. How exactly does this fit the back side of Ninjago City? And what exactly is the back side of it? It can be connected by pins from both sides - left or right. My Ninjago City is still in the box unbuilt :)
€229,- is a joke, right?
Why was my comment removed? Why do you post faked prices on set page?
I am curious as to what the back of this will look like since that is what lines up with the front of Ninjago City. It looks like the stairs on the right side line up with the upper walkway at the Comics store
It is designed to connect with the ninjago city making one big set :-D
@Mochbid - We do not publish 'faked' prices, or anything else. The set is strongly rumoured to cost in the region of €229.99 which has presumably inspired Huw's guess in this article.
Big blue 48x48 plate easily 200 euro so the dock is practically free ,so 2are a must then sell all the doubles of figs -time to go on Ferrari website
have ninjago city so will be forced to get this
Don’t forget, this will be available everywhere so it’ll be discounted eventually, hopefully by at least 25%...
Price will be 229.99 EUR in Germany.
How do you know/see this is not a D2C set?
A little bit soulless and needless. I wish Lego would produce add-on sets that are better thought-out.
Go on Lego, do one for 76052. Lol.
There are also images of Disney sets like Tangled: The Series and Juniors’ Belle’s Story Time on the website :D
I don't know if it's correct, but on zusammengebaut.com one user stated a piece count of 3553 parts. The price of 229,99 € in Germany and the "non-exclusiveness" seem to be correct as zusammengebaut got these infos during interviews with LEGO at the Nuremberg Toy Fair.
Regarding the photo I'm sure that the Docks will sit on 32 x 48 studs, so no 48x48 plate. A blue base plate would be unnecessary as well since the water of 70620 Ninjago City is done in two layers: black, dark green and green plates coveres with trans light blue tiles and plates. This generates a nice effect of diferent water depths and murky water.
FYI: 70620 has a dark bluish gray baseplate, a part appearing in only three sets so far (the Ghost Busters Firestation, Space Police Central from 2010 and Ninjago City).
@CapnRex101, you did, set page https://brickset.com/sets/70657-1/NINJAGO-City-Docks had $299 price set pretty definitely. It is removed now, at least thanks for that. Thus reading "assumptions" (which contradicts common LEGO pricing policy though) of some guy on internet while seeing even more insane price on official set card blows trust in this site pretty much. And cleanup of comments pointing it out blows it up even further.
As for the set itself, I have NINJAGO City and surely not going to buy this one on any price above $170. So either ignore or waiting for EOL and sales:)
If this set is under $200 I'll grab it. Otherwise I don't think I can justify such an insane price tag.
@Mochbid - Apologies, I thought you were referring to Huw's speculative price in this article. We did originally list a price of $299.99 on the set details page and that was an error on our part as information regarding set pricing should not be added to the database until it has been officially confirmed.
However, I must stress that Brickset does not deal in fake information of any kind. On this occasion we mistakenly published a price which has yet to be announced by LEGO but we would never seek to intentionally mislead our readers.
I love the Ninjago City, but this one does not look very attractive, at least from the angle in the photo. Is this the back? Maybe the other side looks better... I'll hold off judgment until I can inspect it in more detail. Would like to get it to add to my growing Ninjago collection (of this non-Ninjago fan!), but we'll see. Temple of Airjitzu and Ninjago City look much more beautiful compared to this one, imho.
The piece count looks like it would be half of Ninjago City. If they try to charge $250 USD there's going to be a lot of unsold copies sitting around.
This looks more comparable to the ~$150 modulars. Probably a little more with the minifigure selection.
Cool, but let's face it. Ninjago City is obviously way more detailed and colorful, as well as a fantastic display piece. I'd say, if you have Ninjago City, you can get the docks but it's not neccesary. If you don't have Ninjago City, there's no need to buy The Docks.
There’s no meowthra ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
I dig it, but it isn't as mindbogglingly incredible as its predecessor. The minifigure seletion is also a tad weak in my opinion, as I was kinda hoping for Nya with her Lady Iron Dragon bike or the Shark Army Narwhal. It seems like we're getting Cole in a different outfit in this set, along with the movie-universe versions of Dareth and Mystake. Not to mention the Cheerleader guy from the movie (without his pompoms)... interesting.
I'm anxious to see what the other side of this set looks like, as that'll be the one that's on display most often. It's a little odd that they make a companion to Ninjago City where it's most displayable side is its backside, unlike Ninjago City. I'm hoping that it's no more than $250, but I'm seriously wondering how much this thing will cost considering how this isn't going to be a D2C set.
Overall, it's nice looking, but not mind blowing. I'm getting Ninjago City in a month or two, so I'll probably have to pick this one up eventually. Oh, the struggles of being a completionist!
No way this set goes for more than $200. It is almost half the size of Ninjago City. I’m betting $169.99 on par with a consumer Millenium Falcon. I think even then it will be discounted.
Sorry but no place in my New City for this.
Prefer the city.
@CapnRex101 Except on April fools day!
I have the Ninjago city set, and I've been looking forward to expanding it. This set is nothing special, but I imagine it would compliment the city well. It has a lot more open usable space than its predecessor, which I take as a bonus.
The only thing that ticks me off is the price point. I think that price point is gonna go down significantly. I mean, just look at it. It looks smaller, and must have a much lower piece count. Even the age suggestions are way different. Ninjago City was 16+, and this is 12+.
@Mochbid, calm down -- nobody knows what it costs yet in the various markets so all we can do is speculate, and I made it clear that my figure was speculation in the article. If it is indeed 229 and not 250 then we will be pleasantly surprised. If I had suggested 200 and it turns out to be 229 then perhaps not.
Your original comment was far too confrontational for what is such a petty point of contention so I deleted it.
I really like the sticker graphic design here, the girl on the green banner, the Exploriens decal at the top of the same structure.
The set does not look € 230 worth; that said, if the info mentioned by Herobricks is correct - €230 for ca 3550 parts - , then the PPP is actually better than that for Ninjago City.
That said, the set does not look as impressive - at first glance - as Ninjago City does. On the other hand, the owner of a local semi-official Lego store apparently has seen the set (or early renditions of it), and in his opinion the set as he saw it is very good.
I guess it is 'wait and see'. And if I were to get it, it makes for a nice (re)building project, as I have just parted down Ninjago City....
Ninjago City is such a beautiful and creative set that it's hard to top or even add to it. This would be a beautiful set if it weren't necessary to judge it against its predecessor... but I'm not yet convinced of its merits.
Most of all, I'm sad that I'll have to completely reorganize my layout in order to make a place for this... which I already had to do to make space for Ninjago City itself. I fit the city set in by placing a renovated Palace Cinema on top of a custom train station, to match the feel/height of the original set, so in my mind I've already met the need this set seems to be trying to fill.
Wow, I'm 13 and last year I bought the original. This is a tough choice. It undoubtedly would be great for animations, but I aint paying 250 bucks for that. It took me 5 months to save up for the city, but I'm not paying a cent more then $200 for this. It does look pretty good, though.
And why doesn't Lego make a smaller Ninjago City set that costs about 50€ for the simple mortals among us? Something like in the Creator line - 200€ or 300€ for a birthday present is simply too much.
I think it looks like it may have some interesting builds, and overall quite decently nice. But not beyond EUR200 nice... (more like EUR150 nice).
It looks a similar size to a modular building and way smaller and less spectacular than the City. Anything more than £120-140 sounds way overpriced.
I share the same sentiments as others who have voiced their opinion that if it's priced over $200 then it's definitely not worth it.
The set is rather lacking something special that City provided and if it's over the $200 mark at regular retailers it will collect dust. After all, even the $99-150 sets don't even move that fast. Walmart will probably strap one of their anti-theft devices and ruin a $200+ box. What a waste.
Can’t believe the negativity around this set. How lucky we are to get TWO great oriental-like sets in less than 12 months apart. Plus the temple. Who would have thought!
And at 250 euro it still has a favourable PPP ratio (3500+ parts I gather). And it looks good too!
Thanks TLG for having the balls to bring this set to life amidst all the other standard releases (which are all pretty darn good as well by the way, judging by the latest leaked photos).
How lucky we are indeed..,
I can confirm that the real Danish RRP is 1999 DKK as I've seen this available first hand at the Legoland Billund shop - translating the price into other currencies is still guesswork at the moment to a certain degree but should be handy for Danish members, and serves as a guide for other regions.
@vwong19: It's around half the height of Ninjago City, but also one and a half times the width. So it costing around three fourths as much makes decent enough sense to me.
I also think that it will probably be a more enticing set on store shelves or store displays than it is in an online image. I can't count the number of times I've heard "I wasn't interested in this set until I saw how massive it was on display". Even seasoned AFOLs can often have a hard time visualizing the size of a model from a digital image alone.
I like it. It helps to complete the Ninjago City look of a water town that I see in various parts of Asia where most trading activities are done on water. Ninjago City is surrounded by a narrow stretch of water on the outside which is barely noticeable. Plus, it's quite hard to get the trans blue tiles in such huge quantities, so it's a good addition to your collection.
I really like this. It has a unique layout that LEGO has never really done before, and all the buildings have personality - albeit not as much as Ninjago City did. I also like that the building on the left borrowed so much from Temple of Airjitsu - the brown and dark tan pillar on the bottom, the grey stairs, the black roof...
I don't know. I'm pretty excited for this, and its down-to-earth aesthetic. I like that it's not crazy dramatic or spectacular, and I like that it doesn't have to be.
it looks amazing. I am waiting for the first pictures of how it looks when connected with Ninjago city.
Can't understand anyone who says this looks amazing, or that it would contain over 3,500 parts. It doesn't look special at all, three little buildings, a bit of "water" and adjacient "harbour"/pier/jetty (at least those two "features" admittedly using loads of pieces - for little result though).
When I bought Ninjago City after I heard that there would be an accompanying harbour set, I got my hopes up for something neat. This though is completely disappointing, and at the proposed price point even more so. The PPP ratio might be ok, but if most of those parts are trans-light-blue 1 by 2 plates and reddish brown 1 by 1 round bricks then there's not much to look forward to imho.
Alas, more money saved.
Looks pretty good if not spectacular. It's a great add-on to a fantastic, mind-blowing Ninjago City - how could I not be getting one?!
I'm reserving judgement until I can see an image of it next to Ninjago city, at first glance it looks boring and too small. The main area of water on Ninjago city was at the rear of the build no? So does that mean this box art is showing the rear view of the docks? Wondering what the other side looks like... There's no way I can Moor destiny's bounty there.
At first glance I felt dissapointment as well. However, Ninjago City is probably my favorite set ever (and I'm not even into Ninjago!), so I had very high expectations for its' accompaniment. Perhaps literally too high, as Ninjago City is already the tallest building in my city. Which makes a shorter, more spaced out, dockyard to combine it with seem more appropriate. I will ultimately reserve judgement until more detailed pics are revealed, along with the official piece count and price. I will say LEGO is setting a high standard this year as they continue to add to the already fierce competion for my tight LEGO budget.
Sorry, but I just gotta say... @CapnRex101 handled the reply to @Mochbid well, especially the second time. @Huw on the other hand... I don't think telling a reader to "calm down" is the best way to respond to something they feel frustrated about. Customer service 101 I think. I didn't see @Mochbid's first post, so I wont judge it completely unfair, but I know that handling disputes/confrontations by telling them to "calm down" might not be the best way towards "calming" them down. I don't know why I feel like mentioning this, but I do. Thanks for all you do.
Even though it looks to be 32x48 footprint, not only does the piece count look severely undeveloped compared to Ninjago City, but it doesn't look like it will will seamlessly blend with the former—at best expanding the water in a direction that I don't picture looking all that interesting.
Ninjago City made a cool "China Town" addition for my Modulars collection, but this one doesn't look to improve it enough for the anticipated cost.
You can see the front along with Ninjago City here:

@Spike730: thanks, that helps a lot to better judge the whole assembly. Looks better from that side, but still a bit unimpressive. If there had been moorings for Destiny's Bounty, now that would have been something.
Yes, it doesn't look as impressive as NC, but let's be honest, NC set the bar very high.
I hope we're getting another corner building.
This looks like it should only be about £159.99 but TLG will deliberately overprice it .....
Nevermind, I'm sure there will be a sale on this at some point.
