Ride the Creator Expert Roller Coaster!

Posted by ,

LEGO has just published video showing a minifig's eye-view of every twist and turn of the new Creator Expert 10261 Roller Coaster.

It provides a full 360-degree view from the front of the train as it travels around the tracks. It's best viewed on a mobile device, which allows you to change the view by angling it around. Furthermore, if you have a VR head set you can have a fully-immersive view!

Check it out below:

Do let us know what you think of it in the comments: LEGO would love your feedback. Personally I think is fantastic: it's the perfect way to demonstrate the awesomeness of the set, and the technology.

Expect to see our review of the set next week.

This is pretty neat, can't wait for your review.

I love the hat on the ground, which has flown off someone as they've been riding it!

I was ready to have my mind blown by how they got the requisite 360° cameras on the rollercoaster cars...
but it's a simulation...
Still a very cool video though!

By in Denmark,

Me too... I though they had motorized it and added a mini VR cam. But the animation is an amazing move too. Above and beyond! Well made.

Jolly clever.

But the camera doesn't flash - how will the riders get their photographs?

From the looks of things, this was animated/computer generated (CGI), not actual footage. Still though, it was great.

Maybe I am doing something wrong, but it looked weird to me. Like a Willie Wonka acid trip ride.

By in Canada,

I would have liked actual footage much better.

If it had been presented as a simulation it would have been nice to watch. But I was looking forward to a real life experience with the actual model, so I found this disappointing.

Appreciate the effort TLG was trying to make though.

Chain is not moving! How carts are propelled upwards? And I expected real fotage... :(

Pretty poor simulation, in reality the movement of the cars in the first curve is pretty awful and not so smooth with the cars sliding from side to side all being caused by the tires.

There's two sets on display on the background that I cannot identify: Some sort of fair/gas station in a the cupboard near the highest corner, between assembly square and the modular diner, and what looks like a modular corner building on the top shelf of a cupboard on the other end (towards the stairs)

The thing between the Downtown Diner and Assembly Square is The Mixer ;)

The other thing looks to be the Haunted House.

Unfortunately no hidden hints for unrevealed sets then :)

Made my eyes go all funny with the track bending around on both sides. Very odd.

Everything is awesome, and so is this!

A shame this is a simulation (though a 360 would be really hard to do irl!) but I love it. I really enjoy experiencing LEGO through minifig eyes. It makes everything seem so much grander!

Note, you need to watch this within the YouTube app itself, rather than the embedded video to get the 360° viewing to work correctly. At least on iOS.

it’s a poor simulation that doesn’t animate the set itself, just a camera loosely going over a static model with sound effects masking the lack of functioning features. No moving chain, wheels that push/pull the cars along. No real physics whatsoever. Fun for someone under the age of ten, but question-inducing for older age groups. The environment is interesting, but again everything is static. Ho-hum.

Wow! Some harsh critics on this thread. Although live action would be cooler, still an impressive VR video. I really like all the props lying around (sets, Club magazine, instructions, etc.). Has anyone figured out what set is on the top shelf? It doesn't look like any existing Modular to me. An Easter egg for a future release?

Sweet, all their work payed off as it is a great animation.

Please can we have a link to download the video as an HD MP4 to transfer onto a viewing device?

Sick and tired of VR videos that are tied to an app that then forces streaming but can't deliver the required bit-rate for immersive 3D videos.

Same goes for that 'Up on the Housetop' Christmas video of a few years ago.

Really impressed by the effort put forth by TLG to put together the video.

Ordered my set yesterday and can't wait to surprise my 6 year old, he doesn't even know the set exists.

The chain and gears are not even animated
