Most wanted minifigures

Posted by ,

Brickset is unique in that, in addition to a extensive database of sets, minifigs and parts, it also contains information about the LEGO collections of 169,185 people. Consequently, a lot of interesting and unparalleled insights can be gathered by aggregating the data.

Recently I was asked if it was possible to see lists of the most wanted sets and minifigs. It's easy to find that information for sets -- and much more -- by running one of our queries, but a most wanted minifig list isn't currently available. Until now.

I delved into the database with a custom SQL query, generated the list and gave it to the requester. Not having seen it before I found it extremely interesting and thought you might too.

So, what are the top 30 most wanted minfigs? Have a guess what might be in the list then find out after the break.

No surprises, then, to see Mr. Gold at the top of the list. He's the only one that's not currently available in BrickLink.

The list contains quite a few collectable minifigures from early series. I suspect that's because they've been in the database longer than later ones (obviously) but also because new collectors are more likely to be needing them to complete their collections.

The third most wanted figure, chrome gold C-3PO, is the most expensive figure on the list: he'll set you back a cool £468 / $600 at the moment!

Are you surprised by some of the figures in the list? How many do you have in your collection?

Why's the zombie so wanted anyway? Above chrome C3-PO anyway?

My brother sure is lucky to have gotten a Deadpool Minifigure in the past.

Can you post a list of the least wanted mini gigs?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Not as an individual minifigure, only with accessories.

By in Portugal,

I'm surprised not to see the Chrome Darth Vader on this list.

By in United States,

Surprisingly I have most of them. And the few I don’t have rent even in my wanted list. I’d be willing to get a Malgus, but not at those prices. But I won’t be broken hearted if I never get him. Who needs a complete collection anyway?

By in United States,

I have a few of the CMF ones but they're disassembled.

By in France,

I'm somehow "proud" to see that I already have quite a good number of most wanted SW ones, as Amidala (even bought two of her, years ago on the Bay, one on display and the other safe brand new in a polybag), Antilles, Malgus, Fox, Shaak Ti... Thank you BrickLink! Not surprised about Mr Gold and C3-PO coming first, but I can't say that I want them. I would be glad to have both of course, but they are not on my wanted list, I am not rich (and mad) enough to spend quite a 75192 in a single minifig! And otherwise surprised by some entries, as Zombie, Vampire and others which I did not imagine that they were so popular and searched. Interesting matter, thank you for this article.

By in United Kingdom,

Wow.... Can I just ask how many people have a minifig wanted list.... I have 220 sets on my wanted list but have never really thought to add a minifig...... I supposed in general a minifig I like often appears in a set I like...... or its not worth paying over the odds for a part set when the set may be on sale later..... I think I have 18 of them and possibly 2 more in keychain form......

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

Biting myself for not buying Deadpool set before, if Carnage came back then perhaps....

By in Germany,

Of this list, I have only got Darth Malgus. Then again, none of the others interest me all that much.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

@Lego34s: don't know. Those from the Collectible series are technically also sets; that's how they end up on my wanted list. I put figs on my wanted minifig list if I buy used sets and some are missing, so I don't forget about them. That's what I use that list for.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I have Deadpool, part of Queen Amidala (from a parts pile at a second hand store), Robot, and Monkey suit Guy.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I've got 12 on that list (including C-3PO).

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Surely people mean they want Mr.Gold and his accessories, who'd want an incomplete one?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Personally, one of the minifigures I want the most is one of the drones from the Exo-force line. I don't know, those minifigures seem cool to me. Though it is very interesting which figures people want the most. Definitely interested to see some comic con ones on there as well as collectible minifigures.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I have a few of these and to be honest I really don't see why that many people want them.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I think with the zombies it's because people rarely want just one; they want to get a full zombie horde going. I assume it's the same deal with the clowns; most people seem to be creeped out by them so I assume they're seeking to form... insane clown posses.... sorry.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I have lady liberty but that's about all. Some of these might be neat to have (like Mr. Gold) but the rest are... Well not worth mentioning. I'm surprised more SDCC Minifigures or other exclusive Minifigures weren't on here.

Clearly Huw you did NOT look at my list! I'm offended! ;)

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I feel strangely proud seeing that I don't own any of these. Might be due to the fact that I don't get this whole "minifig collecting" thing at all. In my view minifigs are for manning and populating MOCs, serving as PCs and NPCs in adventures, but definitely don't belong behind glass panes. But I have nothing against collectors either, everybody to her/his own, live and let live, etc.

By in France,

When I was a kid I played with Lego. For hours and hours. Mainly castle, and classic space a lot to. Then some years later came SW ESB and TROTJ movies in theaters. And my passion for the saga. And when I started collecting SW sets, as an adult and father, I didn't know my combined passions would lead me to enjoy collecting all the characters, even without having the sets they were released in. And today, I am very happy with my growing and almost complete collection of minifigs, some on little scenes and displays, some in the official Lego minifigs display cases. I hear the point that minifigs are for display and play, of course Lego is a toy, but to me it is much more than this, and I can also say that seeing all those famous and beloved characters of the entire saga grouped together is a pure joy to me, furthermore as Lego is now manufacturing them with more and more accurate parts, colors and details printed. The display cases stacked on two piles of three and filled with all these SW characters renditions is something I like to look at, and that I personally think is beautiful, and worth the time, money, patience and efforts it took me.

By in United States,

I have four of these: Queen Amidala, Shaak Ti, Agen Kolar, and Aayla Secura. I had no clue Antilles was worth that much! I don't know about anyone else, but I would never pay that.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Lucky enough to have all the SW ones on the list but still have a load of others on my wanted list. Also have Dead Pool and Iron Patriot as recently started collecting the Marvel Superheroes.
Have been collecting for years so picked most of them up when prices were reasonable. No way would I pay some of the prices they currently go for.

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

I have four of the list. Two of them (hazmat guy and gorilla suit guy) only accidentally as I did not want them and still have no clue how the hazmat guy can be this high on the list. He is like 300 in my collection.

Gravatar
By in Norway,

I have 14 of these :D Three of the zombie bought for 10 NOK each.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I've got 22 out of 30 - essentially I just don't buy Comic Con exclusives, don't have Mr Gold and still intend to get Chrome Threepio and a couple of others. Funny that SO many of them are series 1 collectible minifigs. And Darth Malgus is up there and I regretted paying retail price for the set when it came out - not so much now!

However, I'll admit that I don't add 'wanted' minifigs on Brickset myself - only wanted sets very occasionally

Gravatar
By in United States,

I've got at least two of every CMF on the list, _except_ Mr. Gold, because up until that debacle I was displaying one complete set of every series, and keeping one complete set sealed in the packets. I've got over 70 of the S1 Robot, just because I liked it that much (most are still sealed). Beyond that, I've got a few non-counterfeit Deadpools (most of the ones on Bricklink are repro prints), Iron Patriot, Fox, and Antilles for sure. I think I have that Shaak Ti, Aayla Secura, and Agen Kolar, and there's a slim possibility that I have Darth Malgus. The other seven I know for a fact that I do not own, and in fact have only seen the other four SW minifigs in person. I do own a few legitimate SDCC minifigs, but none of them are Marvel, and 80% of them are Batman.

@catwrangler:
It's a little from Column A, and a little from Column B. It's Series 1, it's rare (3 per case), it's an army builder, and it has a popular TV franchise helping drive demand. Now, people _wanting_ multiples isn't why the number is so high (that only shows how many people want it, not how many they want), but other people having scooped up as many as they could back when they were affordable means there are far less to go around for those who are new to the game.

That said, if you want to amass a hunger of zombies to display, there are tons of alternatives. There's a brown reprint of the same deco, there are three more CMF zombies from S14, there's the Zombie Skateboarder from the CMF book, there's all the zombies from Monster Fighters (five I believe?), there's the zombie from Scooby Doo, most of the Frankenstein's monsters can be turned into zombies by ditching the hairpiece (or bulbous headpiece), and there are several other minifigs that have ripped and tattered clothing and just need a suitably zombish head. I've actually got a hunger of zombies that's around 70 strong, and only maybe 10% of them are the original S1 Zombie. I think the largest percentage is actually the S4 Frankenstein's Monster because that was still on shelves when I decided to start army-building zombies. But to build it out, I went after every official zombie they've ever made (including Minecraft, Zombie Geonosian, PotC4 pirates, and PotC5 shark), I figured out a few that could be made with stock parts, and I collected multiples of a few select zombies. I also have a few of Crazy Bricks' Gingerdead Men. On the plus side, it makes for a more realistic look, since not everyone dresses the same. On the minus side, minifigs are small, and sticking to one zombie design really makes them stand out against all the other regular minifigs.

I have Shaak Ti, and Darth Malgus. Please someone get me a deadpool.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I came to read the comments on this thinking that the discussion would be something beyond a stream of people harping on about which figures they have.

I was wrong.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I have 14 of these which is surprising because almost none of them are ones that I would go out of my way to buy. There are none from this list that have ever been on my wanted list except possibly Shaak Ti.
Strange to see those older Star Wars Lando and Aayla Secura figs since new improved versions have been released.

However, this list does not account for figures that people wanted and actually bought, so does not track most desirable figures. Hence, we should take these results with a pinch of salt.

By in Netherlands,

Queen Amidala, Shaak Ti, & Aayla Secura are among the ones I have in my SW collection.
As for my Super Heroes collection, would love to get a hold of that Jean Grey Phoenix figure. I know that's not gonna happen tho :) So what do I do? Moc one up from other pieces. Made Phoenix fig using Ariel's head and hairpiece, Hawkgirl's torso, and Doc Ock's legs..Bam! (Close enough ;)
Rarely buy high valued figs, except for the time I got Jabba the Hut for 20, and Ninjago's Overlord for 15.
Every one has their own vision or concept for their collections, so not sure if queries like these says much. Fun to know tho ;)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Great! Thanks for making my Want list go up! :)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Not surprised that early CMF's are amoungst the most wanted, as are the short run /limited edition characters.

I'm guessing that Lego would still have all the moulds etc to make them, so just thinking it'd be nice if they did something like a boxed set with a selection of the most wanted minifigures from past CMF's in them.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@GrizBe:
They clearly do keep the molds, as some of the early CMF accessories keep popping up in within the CMF line from time to time. Normally it takes a good pitch to get CMF elements cleared for European production because they have to cut new molds, but something like this that includes nothing but CMFs would probably just be made in China like back when they did the VIP Least Wanted box set. Mostly what we see is selected elements popping up from time to time in the Build-A-Minifig bins, but they rarely include 100% of the parts from any CMF.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I have the circus clown and the vampier.
I almost do not dare to tell you that I gave away the bumble bee girl because I was not working with CMF yet

Gravatar
By in United States,

Lots of Marvel on this list. Surprised that Shazam and/or Bizarro didn’t make the list. Those are usually in high demand.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@BrickHelix, I would be surprised if there were a 'Japanese knock off deadpool [sic]' or indeed Japanese bootlegs of any minifigure.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Surprised some of the convention exclusive not on the list.
I thought also perhaps the (2853835) Boba Fett in all white and (4547551)Chrome Darth Vader were still in high demand.

Got over 20 on this list myself. Alway wanted that Agen Kolar fig from the Palpatine's Arrest set.

Gravatar
By in Norway,

I have 17 of these. 2 of some

Gravatar
By in United States,

@obelix1971:
I turned one into a zom-bee.

@Double J Bricks & legoDad42:
There are two SDCC minifigs on the list, and the chrome C-3PO. Most other SDCC exclusives and polybag minifigs like white Boba and chrome Vader are probably on want lists as sets, not minifigs. Huw kind of alluded to the fact that this only covers minifigs, not sets that mostly consist of a minifig.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Interesting article, with some surprises for sure. Perhaps a combined list of owned plus wanted would give an insight into this communitiy's overall most popular minifigures.
