"Deep Sea Creatures" looks like it has an excellent main model despite having so few pieces.
^ The best of the bunch, IMO.
Baby shark, doo doo doo...... (I'm sorry, bloody kids!).
I do admit that's the only one that screams buy me though.
Is it possible, the Junior sets became a regular City sets (e.g. 60212, 60220)?
Will the Junior sets are disappear from 2019?
I really like the Harvestor and I am glad they are revisiting the farm theme. I just started buying in 2018 after a long dark period and I find these fire sets disappointing. I am still waiting to see the rumored fire at the hamburger joint or whatever it is called.
The Fire Brigade finally gives us a fire truck that looks more like a real fire truck than in past sets, but I'm sure the set is going to be pricey.
Dockside Fire and the Barbecue look like they popped out of the late 1980s or early 1990s. Very odd sets IMO.
I like the "Garbage" Truck, which is more a dump truck, and I like the "John Deer" Combine. Will buy these for my Lego train layout.
I don't need *another* shuttle. :-(
Deep Sea looks awesome and fun. I'll have to buy two boxes just to build squid as well.
So many new shooters! My favorites are the snow groomer and deep sea creatures easily. The rest aren't bad and I think it's a good start to 2019.
My bank account just took a sigh of relief. Deep Sea Creatures is the only one in the bunch in which I’m remotely interested ??
So, 31089 also builds a landspeeder then.... right?!?
Finally we get a new and upgraded Light & Sound system back! Sweet!
Uh-oh... the return of juniorised city sets?
The large fire set looks interesting. It seems to have new light brick on top of the cab, as well as a pneumatic cannon that uses a small air pump to shoot out the water piece.
So many of them look brilliant, i particularly like the Diving yacht, new shark will go nicely with an Aquaman creation, and the snow groomer & downtown fire brigade are great sets, Bring on the lego friends and disney sets now..
So the 4+ sets will be replacing the junior sets I guess? Rather have them kept as a separate theme!
The "water cannon" is also an interesting part in the "Dock Side Fire" set. I like all the sets. Deep sea creatures is my favorite too. But why a Creator set is using those one purpose determined minifigure accessories in that treasure chest?
Another question. I'm color blind so that Futuristic Flyer is using dark red or light/dark green parts?
The Downtown Fire Brigade looks like a fun set. . . love the giant fire truck - one of the more realistic ones we've seen in a while.
Glad to see a return to the farm theme . . . the harvester looks excellent.
Not sure what to make of the "water canon" . . . could be a fun new element.
The shark looks excellent . . . and yes, another Space Shuttle!!! And yes, I'm being serious. But then again I'm a NASA/Space nut who collects them all!
@CPBelt, Not sure I agree that the 2016 fire engines don't look real. Apart from a possible minifig scale compatibility issue, what is unreal about the fire engine in this set https://brickset.com/sets/60110-1/Fire-Station ?
The Snow Groomer looks great, but why does it have a "Snow Cannon" mounted on the back? Surely firing extra snow in front of itself would just create more work for the driver? But hey, I guess it's a fun feature so fair enough.
The snow cannon is clearly meant to shoot at skiers who are jumping in front of the vehicle
the Snow Groomer's box is one of those pictures taken right before disaster
Downtown Fire Brigade looks great, although I'm sure it will be pricey, especially w/the new light brick. My city will be happy to have a proper ladder truck. Glad we're getting another Garbage truck as well, although wish it wasn't so Juniorized. Diving Yacht looks nice and so glad they're getting back to a Farm Theme. I really hope we see more Farm sets in 2019! Deep Sea Creatures looks to be the only Creator set out of this lot that I'm interested in. Except it will be tough making a Minifigure sized zoo aquarium large enough for that shark! It does seem that the Junior label has been replaced w/the 4+ logo, which is no big deal as long as the whole City range isn't too simplified.
@JonMarten: Not really, LEGO is just changing the branding of all their 4+ sets from City/Spider-Man/Friends subthemes of Juniors to 4+ subthemes of City/Spider-Man/Friends.
I'm definitely a bit apprehensive about this since even before the rebrand, I have already seen some people mistakenly compare Juniors Friends sets and standard City sets on adjacent shelves and arrive at the impression that all girl-oriented sets are designed and marketed as "easy to build" compared to boy-oriented ones (which of course isn't true).
With building level less broken down by theme, such misconceptions about target age will be that much easier for people to make when they're comparing two randomly chosen sets from different themes rather than the themes in their entirety. On the other hand, maybe younger builders found the Juniors branding patronizing and were bothered about being stuck with those sets and not REAL Friends/Ninjago/whatever.
On a side note, I'm also noticing that these sets are completely doing away with upper caps on the recommended age range. Certainly an interesting move, and probably a positive one since I have to admit there were plenty of times when I was confused about why one set might be labeled 7–12 while another was labeled 7–14.
Anyway, age aside, it's neat how the City Fire sets introduce a new, more realistic firefighter's axe, red fire helmets, and a stud shooter with a chamber for multiple shots. The Downtown Fire Brigade set is also pretty creative in how it's designed as a crossover between Fire and Construction subject matter. The piece count is pretty high as far as City sets go, and I'll be interested to see what it costs. But overall it's very impressive. Dock Side Fire is alright, but the piece count and probably the price seem to suffer from the inclusion of a floating boat hull in such a small set. It's nice to see this smaller floating hull finally get used outside of Juniors, though!
The Great Vehicles sets look nice and varied, as usual. The cannon on the Snow Groomer is a peculiar choice. I suspect it's meant to represent the sprayer on the back of some snowplows/snow groomers, but designing and advertising it as a "snow cannon" make it feel less straightforward a representation than I might ordinarily prefer. The Harvester Transporter is not only a refreshing return for farm-themed sets, but also has some really neat techniques for the front of the truck cab and the harvester itself. Cute scarecrow too! A Diving Boat is nice to see as a Great Vehicles set considering most past boat sets in that series have been either racing or fishing boats. I'm curious what it has in the way of interior detail. And on the smaller side, the Desert Rally Racer has some pretty unique colors and creative use of wedge plates!
The Creator sets also look about as diverse as ever. I do suspect that this isn't the full lineup, though, judging from how past North American Creator winter waves have been split up into December and January releases, as well as the lack of any buildings or minifigures in the sets shown. My favorite is probably the Deep Sea Creatures since I love LEGO Creator animals, even if these aren't as cuddly looking as the ones in the Park Animals or Rainforest Animals sets from past years. The other sets also do some really cool and creative stuff with their various parts.
Can't wait to see what else is in store!
Sharktastic.
Some kind of Creator Ski Resort coming up: See the ski lifts back drop and snowy roofs?
Apart from a couple of nice designs, please Lego take a leaf out of Playmobil's book and broaden the themes: historically, artistically (the Lego colour range is great now), and imaginatively.
The range is always pretty good but also samey year to year, a little formulaic perhaps?
We had the mountain police, this year, so we were due for a fire theme next year. I was thinking that just the other day. It looks like there's a new stud-shooter piece, and electronics in the downtown fire brigade set. None of them really interest me, so I can skip those (60002 and 60107 were two of the best fire engines they ever put out. Nothing since has come close).
I like the Rally Racer, and the diving boat is pretty nifty. I'll get those two, but the rest I'll pass on.
Don't much care for the Creator sets, although the shark will probably tempt me when it's out in stores.
No ninjago sets?
I also really want lego to redo the farm theme, that was one of my favorites
Positively surprised! Will pick up the following 3 sets:
Futuristic Planes - Dark Red! I can use almost all of those pieces for a few MOCs I'm working on atm
Diving Yacht - NOSTALGIA! I remember those old diving sets from the late 90's when I was like 3-4 years old... only ever got one, the smallest (6555), but I love this as a modern take on one of the mid-sized sets. Would love it even more if the old Manta ray returned.
Bombardier Snowmobile - f'in awesome! Only downside for me are the gaps in the plough on the front.
The rest aren't must-haves for me, thouth I admit the 31089 Sunset Track Racer is tempting..
Is that a button cannon?
Could the technic brick on the left side of the dock set mean it can connect to a larger harbor set?
Does this look like TLC is not focusing on one city sub-theme but rather mixing the selection? Seems like 1-2 of each. Maybe its too early to tell (?)
I like the Snow Groomer, Harvester Transport, and the Sunset Track Racer. Deep Sea Creatures also looks interesting.
@Anak: the sets includes dark red, white and light gray bricks.
((A repcsinél sötét pirosat használnak, ugyanazt, mint a 75099 Rey's Speeder-ében, vagy a 31032 Red Creatures-nél.))
I like the shark, I like the shuttle (I have that old city set with the shuttle on the back of the plane) and I like the downtown fire (a few years back they did a big ladder fire truck which I think was an exclusive somewhere).
The Fire Brigade Burnout has fire engine lights omg i’m hyped af, please tell me it makes noises it would be so much awesomer
Lego sure doesn't tire of Shuttles! How about another nice Creator Shuttle not these teensy tiny ones.
@Icey: The sets here seem to represent two subthemes (not counting Juniors): Fire and Great Vehicles. Even though the Brickset database doesn't recognize the Great Vehicles subtheme, since 2012 it's been the catch-all category for vehicles at $10/$20/$30 price points that don't correspond to other current subthemes. See here for some other recent examples: https://www.lego.com/en-us/themes/city/products/great-vehicles
That said, it's never been too typical for City to focus on just one subtheme per half-year wave. For the past three years at least there's usually been two or three:
• First half 2016: Great Vehicles, Prison Island, and Fire Brigade
• Second half 2016: Town, Airport, and Volcano Explorers
• First half 2017: Great Vehicles and Police
• Second half 2017: Town, Coast Guard, and Jungle Explorers
• First half 2018: Great Vehicles, Mountain Police, and Mining Experts
• Second half 2018: Town, Trains, and Arctic Expedition
• First half 2019: Great Vehicles, Sky Police, and Fire/Fire Brigade/whatever they decide to name the new fire wave
• Second half 2019: ???
Some of them look really blocky, almost old-fashioned. The front of the garbage truck for example.
I just want to see the new modular building
https://brickset.com/sets/4506-1/Deep-Sea-Predators
@CamberbrickGreen As much as I'd like to see that, the box you're pointing out is sadly the box for 31080 :(
Lego is on fire these days...
So 4+ is the new Juniors. I am disappointed. I really want a new garbage truck.
31086 = Russian SU-47. If anyone likes aircraft then look it up. It is a truly breathtaking flying machine to look at.
The fire sets look very Junior-esque.
Downtown Fire Brigade is all you could possibly want from a flagship fire set - and for once it ISN'T a fire brigade HQ! There's probably still one in the mix though. The lights, the collapsing functions and two new projectile pieces are very interesting - not only is there the repeating stud shooter but there's also something fancy at the top of the fire engine ladder - is it pneumatic?
Looks as though 'ages 5-12' is no more, eh?
I, for one, welcome this development!
Is that a remake of 4506 Deep Sea Predators (aka one of my favorite sets of all time, that I still have on display)?!
Shame it doesn't come with glow-in-the-dark elements this time, especially for the anglerfish, but the actual anglerfish build is much better and I guess the gold teeth and suckers kinda make up for it somewhat. It does look like I'll need 3 copies if I want to build them all!
My heart skipped a beat when I saw the combine - here's hoping for a return to the farm subtheme this summer! Or at least a return of black-and-white cows (with 90-degree horns) and goats!
Overall, a lot of fun sets in here, though I'm concerned about Lego City's construction oversight from the number of mishaps happening downtown!
These seem pretty cool, but I'm still waiting to see what the Sky Police sets look like.
I like the Downtown fire brigade and Harvester transport. I hope this means for farm related type sets in the future
@Bustin: That's probably because two of them are literally Juniors/4+ sets, just with the new branding where 4+ is a subtheme of City rather than the other way around. That said, the Downtown Fire Brigade is more of a "normal" City building level, with the piece count to attest to it! And there are at least three other City Fire sets coming out besides those shown here.
I wonder if this means we will start to see some of the other 2019 sets? Seems to me that we have usually seen a lot more by this time of the year. I'm especially excited to see the Lego Movie 2 sets and CMFs. And I think they are supposed to come out Jan 1 . . . which means we should be seeing them any day now . . . fingers crossed!
Still waiting for the new HP sets to surface.... need to know what I'm able to cheat on in my in-progress moc of Hogwarts LOL
Fire brigade, harvester, deep sea, and flyer are my favorites. The orange dump truck *ahem* I mean garbage truck doesn't feel right. I understand it's a Juniors age for simplicity sake but still. That being said my sons will probably want at least a handful of these sets. My wallet hates me.
To echo what a bunch of others have said, a lot of these sets are to-kiddy for me. This will save me money! I do like the rally car, diving boat and harvester, so it will be a cheap first half of the year.
I bet Lego releases the official images now that these are out. Bring them on!!
Juniorised City sets... a modern Jack Stone?
^^ Ha, I guess that's one perk of feeling too grown-up for 4+ sets, because the fact that many Juniors/4+ sets do appeal to me means I'll have to spend money if I am to get my hands on them!
Yay for the new pulaski axes! Updated loggers, treeplanters and forest fire crews, here I come!
Burning building. Seems like they have channeled my 4 year old. He sets all my modulars on fire so that he can put them out. Lots of fire. Should prove popular for the intended audience.
@SinKiller Nick
Agreed.
We just need to bide our time.
Hey 2019 set images. Cool! That fire brigade set looks awesome. Hopefully its not store exclusive again (I missed out on the 2013 'long' fire truck) and its about time we had a decent sized building on fire.
The diving yacht and combine harvester sets are cool. As is the snowplough.
But WHAT THE HELL IS UP WITH THOSE CITY SETS?!!! Its Juniors! THE HECK???? Those BBQ, fire boat and garbage truck sets make me sick. I just can't believe it. WHY would Lego do a 'early 2000s' again??
I'm not a fan of EVERY SINGLE SET needing a 'shooter' of some sort either...
@George P from Canada: Thanks!
(Köszi szépen, elég rossz a megvilágítása annak a képnek, így nem volt egyértelmü.)
Again, there is not a single 6-stud wide city car in any of the sets. I had to resort to Speed Champions due to the lack of "regular" cars in the recent City sets. I need a set like 60132
Deep Sea creatures looks awesome. I just hope it would only be $15-$20 in Australia.
Harvester Transporter looks interesting as well, but I don't know about the others.
Creator Creature Set rocks as usual. Shuttle looks interesting too.
Really like the City Snow Groomer although I won't be getting it. Big fan of the shuttle transport though, particularly the tertiary build! Other than that, not really that keen.
Somehow can't see most of the pics, but I do like the Harvester Transport and the Deep Sea Creatures very much.
They all look very nice, the Snow Groomer and the Harvester Transport in particular look great. Normally I'm not really interested in CITY sets, but I might get one of those.
As for the Creator sets, the Futuristic Flyer is my absolute favorite!
Can't wait to see the rest of the 2019 line-up.
4+ sets are just the transfer of what would have been a Juniors cross-theme release. No need to fear the imminent juniourisation of some themes.
I like the look of the new water cannon pieces and lights on the fier truck
I didn't notice it before, but were City sets always 5+ and 6+ ?
Futuristic flyer stretches my imagination...oh how it hurts.
Hey look, futuristic flyer is in the background of the shuttle which is in the background of the futuristic flyer. Wow.
That Deep Sea Creatures set reminds me of the Deep Sea Predators set from 2004.
I remember that last time 4+ was used it was with the infamous Jack Stone. We'll see what will happen.
By the way, I'm interested in that "water cannon" and that air pump shooter. And it looks like the stud shooter on the snow groomer is this part: https://brickset.com/parts/design-18588
I'm the most interested in the Harvester and Downtown Fire Bridge. Also curious about the next Modular for 2019.
The fire brigade intrigues me. The diving yacht and the desert rally racer are certain purchases Several of the sets look very Junior and the combine harvester is nowhere near the quality of 7636.
Looks like the Snow Groomer and the new fire axe piece can be used to make some rather good MOCs of The Shining! Just need to find a good crazed Jack Nicholson minifig head...
FINALLY!!!!
these look amazing
I am very interested that Lego is going back to the farm and that Downtown Fire Brigade (60216) construction crane plus half a building is tempting but I'll buy the pieces for the building outside the set, definetly is a good sight to see the saw shark again.
1. Of these, I'll get the Harvester Transporter - I like the transporter addition as anyone can now have farm machinery being transported through their city if they don't have dedicated farmland.
2. I hope more CREATOR city scale buildings are forthcoming - they seemed to hit a sweet spot with the Bike Shop, Toy Store, Townhouse, etc, then went ugly with that trio of 2D houses.
3. Is that a new ax?
The stud shooter on the Snow Groomer made me chuckle. I have never been to a ski resort were the employees wantonly drive their snow cats around and blast snow at unsuspecting skiers. :P
I’m not sure whether that girl on the diving yacht is taking ‘last-moments’ shots of the underwater diver though...
Hopefully we will know about prices this week, the first winter batch normally comes around December 1st....
I like the look of the new firemans axe piece
The 2019 firemen's collection looks good.
Having sat on these images all day, I think I'm now confident in my opinions.
I'm probably just going to miss the creator sets this year. The theme has drifted away from my interests in recent years anyway, but I may pick up that racing car as it looks a lot like an LMP1 car ir maybe an SCG 003.
The city sets, on the other hand, are awesome!
Ok, I'll admit, I'm not that keen on the "4+" range, and more fire sets aren't the most appealing, but I'm generally only after the great vehicles anyway.
60218 looks fantastic. The £8 price bracket always throws up some surprises, and this set looks straight out of a rally stage, whether in the french alps or the chilean desert.
60221 also seems pretty good. When I first looked at it, it seemed simplistic, underdetailed, but further inspection has proven otherwise. Definitely going to have to pick one up!
60222, despite the confusing box art, will also be a must-buy. Although I'm sure it'll use a cheater wheel, when it looks this good, scraping tracks would be just embarrassing. Combined with a striking red colour scheme, it looks like a recipie for success!
Now, 60223. This set looks like it can't possibly fail to impress me. I have a soft spot for articulated lorries (particularly european-style ones with the flat fronts), farm equipment and combine harvesters. Plus, the lorry looks really unique, unlike any I've seen in lego before. The harvester (which actually looks more like a grass cutter) looks too small, though. It's about half the size it should be for the UK; ones in the US are twice as big again. Other than that, though, some big winners!
For my taste the new axe is way too playmobile-esque.
I like the shape but the multicoloured plastic just makes all the other tools look too simplistic by contrast & I liked their purity of design.
I can see in downtown fire brigade some sort of launcher on the six wheeled thing near the base of the building. I think it may be new
It’s also on the front of the juniors boat
I posted images of the back of boxes and some additional sets here: https://imgur.com/a/LapC1Ey
^ That 60219 Construction Loader is an instant buy.
Creator and City line up looks much more promising than the Technic in 2019. I'll definetly get the yacht. Harvester also looks great but I don't need the truck that comes with it.
Disappointing on the whole. Like the diving yacht and will get the harvester, but it looks a bit small, would prefer more of a wheat header than a corn header... As long as mire farm sets appear I'll be happy
Love the farmer set. Please give us more farming sets
@Alfie22: I have seen a lot of people commenting on the fire boat and I feel like I ought to mention that it's NOT a Juniors/4+ set. It uses the floating boat hull introduced in past Juniors sets, but otherwise the building level for stuff like the boat engine and pier seems more on par with standard City. Its price per piece is probably bad, but that's pretty typical for sets with these sorts of floating boat hulls regardless of their target age range.
@KONVICT: Neat to see one of the new Friends sets there! Haven't seen Brickset or other sites reporting on those showing up. Was that the only new Friends set? It's definitely a very strong design from the look of it!

The two models in the main build of Deep Sea Creatures look adorable! I'm a sucker for ocean life, especially in LEGO
1. I'm not really enthusiastic about any of these, though Deep Sea Creatures (31088) is pretty awesome.
2. I agree with the previous commenter that "Juniors" was likely viewed as patronizing to its target audience and so this is a better way of branding it. I just wish that some of the 5+ and 6+ sets weren't so juvenile looking as well. I mean, as nice as the fire truck is in Downtown Fire Brigade (60216), the building and the crane are horrible. The building is just a façade and the crane is too small for the scale (nothing can compare to Building Crane (7905)).
3. While we're on the topic of Downtown Fire Brigade (60216), is that a new 2x2 round tile clock print?
4. I love that the sticker on the door to the Snow Groomer (60222) is a nod to the Island Xtreme Stunts theme. It's a good looking set, but not a buy for me as I don't have a ski resort in my city. The same goes for Harvester Transport (60223): a good looking set, but I don't have a farm.
@Librarian1976: I suspect the issues with the crane and building in the Downtown Fire Brigade set relate more to its price point than the building level of the anticipated target audience. 943 parts is already a pretty high piece count for a City set… even most of the big police and fire stations don't tend to get up that high. And a set depicting EITHER a high-rise construction site OR a fire response team this size would be big enough independently — I imagine that a set featuring BOTH must have really put designers to the test in terms of deciding what parts were most important to focus on.
That said, 6 studs deep is not a particularly unusual size for City buildings regardless of their contents (this set's building might seem shallower than that, but the main pic is at a deceptive angle). Compare with some of the non-garage structures in sets like 3661-1, 4429-1, 4644-1, 7208-1, 7633-1, 7641-1, 7848-1, 7892-1, 8403-1, 60003-1, 60026-1, 60068-1, 60097-1, etc. which were all around the same depth so as to fit comfortably on 8x16 bases and allow kids to easily reach inside from behind without removing walls or ceilings.
And even in the Friends theme, despite its much greater focus on interior detail than City, most buildings' upper stories tend to be only 8 studs deep, and the lower stories tend to have a lot of non-enclosed space.
What confuses me more about the building in this set than the size is why LEGO didn't use tiles and plates with limited studs like in their various modular sets to make the floors easier to separate, since that would greatly enhance its play value as a construction site.
Really need to fix the comments function. I have posted comments 3 times on this, and it has vanished without trace each time. From my experience, it happens whenever someone else posts a comment while you are still typing. There has to be a way to fix this, as I couldn't be bothered writing it out again and this happens all the time.
