Star Wars Advent Calendar: Day 8

Posted by ,

An impressive selection of different models and minifigures have emerged during the first week of this year's Advent Calendar, covering several Star Wars movies and some external material.

It will be interesting to find out whether every Star Wars film is represented by the final day!

Battle Droids have appeared in 47 different sets since 1999 so this minifigure is not particularly appealing. I think it looks reasonable when compared with the source material and am pleased to have another droid for my collection, although a more interesting minifigure would certainly have been preferable.

Fortunately, the Battle Droid comes with a blaster rifle, further indicating that this Advent Calendar will not contain a weapons rack!

Overall - 2.5 - Battle Droids are always useful but something more unusual would have been welcome.

Oh boy oh boy a battle droid!

I don't have many prequel sets besides the original run of them, so this is actually the first battle droid I have that has a straight arm for blaster holding.

Really a bit disappointed, especially when the construction is almost identical to the IG-88 a couple of days earlier and after the general excitement over the cloud city model....I felt so let down I went a built the Y-Wing from 2014's SW advent calendar to give myself some Saturday cheer! :-P

I wonder if R0-GR or one of the variant battledroid paint schemes could have made this figure more exciting.

Boring but great for army building

By in Ireland,

This is my first ever Battle Droid so I am chuffed to bits and all I can say is "Roger Roger"!

I am glad these guys haven’t changed since 1999. I miss old Vader and boba fett

By in United Kingdom,

I fear you're setting yourself up for disappointment with all this hoping for 'no weapons rack'.

By in United States,

Sorry, but I've seen enough of the battle droids, and they never have been more than boring cannon fodder. Can you give a lower rating than zero? Boo, LEGO!

By in France,

In haste to see the new version with upgraded printings on head (and torso?) for those. This older version will then look rather plain.

By in Sweden,

I've always had a soft spot for these guys, but they really should've given this one the same printing that they're putting on the ones coming out next year (sets 75233 & 75234). They look so, so much better than the standard one.

@CapnRex101 how's the clutch seem between the droid parts on this figure? I for one am glad TLG is still producing the plain version of these since most of the ones from my older sets are quite loose at the joints, and knowing there's a source still to replace them cheaply is comforting.

@TheTeenageBrickster - Absolutely. I would not necessarily advocate applying pressure to LEGO's social media but I do support the sentiment behind MandRproductions' campaign!

@darkstonegrey - The clutch power is excellent. I think LEGO updated the mould for Battle Droid legs around 2014.

That's more like 0.5/10 honestly

Should have been the new green variant for 2019 perhaps?

What a slap in the face. Thanks Lego.

My first battle droid, so I was very excited. I agree that R0-GR would have been even better, but I am still very happy!
