Star Wars Advent Calendar: Day 16

Posted by ,

An impressive Death Trooper from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story arrived on day fifteen and I hope that will continue as several vehicles originating from the 2016 movie have yet to be rendered at miniature scale.

Let's open the door and find out...

This tiny Rathtar takes inspiration from Star Wars: The Force Awakens and looks superb! It has not been designed in scale with minifigures but you could imagine that this is a juvenile Rathtar, perhaps justifying the inclusion of just four tentacles. The model is primarily dark red and reddish brown which looks great when compared with the source material and I love the red beak, represented by a robot claw.

Furthermore, I appreciate LEGO's decision to create something unique for this Advent Calendar. Several different vehicles and a few locations appear every year but this creature is extremely unusual and it has been well designed, capturing the essential details of a Rathtar using relatively few pieces.

Overall - 4.5 - I am very pleased with this model. It is considerably smaller than a minifigure but looks marvellous and the Rathtar includes a couple of interesting pieces too.

Very nice model, been anticipating it since I saw the box front. Don’t really understand why the Pl.Round 1X1 W. Throughg. Hole is gold when they could have used the dark red color piece like in the Landspeeder. May just dig into my extra pieces to find one and use that instead.

Ah, now that you say its a Rathtar of course I can see that. Until I read this article I was convinced it was a mini version of the tentacle monster from 76060 Doctor Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum...

When I first saw this set, I thought this was one of asajj ventress's drill things from the clone wars.

@agentr2, I wonder if it's to give the impression of the yellow eyes around the mouth? Rathtars have yellow eyes, right?

it's his yellow teeth. and he's swallowing someone with red legs.

edit: j/k about the legs. bit I think the gold one is his teeth

Every time someone says Raptar all I can think of is Reptar... It is Really distracting.

It’s cool you guys got the Rathtar, but I got another duplicate. First IG-88 was replaced with a second model of the Imperial Troop Transport from day 13. Today I found a duplicate of the build for day 20. This is the first time this has ever happened to me and I’m kind of ticked about it. I have since opened the box and thankfully I don’t have another repeat model. I want to call customer service, but what can they do at this point. Any suggestions?

By in Germany,

Cool model! Btw, I think the gold plate represents the yellowish dots rathtars have on their skins

A great model! I enjoy getting something different than a vehicle! (vehicles are still really cool though)

@JonMarten: They usually do, and the placement of the gold is pretty close to the placement of the eyes.
