The LEGO Movie 2 Collectable Minifigures revealed!
Posted by CapnRex101,
LEGO catalogues for 2019 are now arriving and feature an image that shows the next series of Collectable Minifigures, based upon The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part. These figures will be released in February.
Twenty different minifigures are included, the most interesting of which are characters from The Wizard of Oz! Moreover, there are updated versions of President Business, Abraham Lincoln and Mrs. Scratchen-Post.
Thanks to The Cobra for bringing this high-resolution catalogue image to our attention.

Cool series.
My favourite is the giraffe.
I'm looking forward to Disco Wyldstyle, to add it to the Pop Up Party Bus I'm gonna buy in the next days.
I'm in haste to see the movie. And those Oz minifigs are awesome to me... And my 9 years old daughter. A must have for us! Giraffe and pen are great too...
Saw the leak of this a week ago. Surprised about the Wizard of Oz set in with this, and also the lack of alternate versions for Batman and Metalbeard, given every other main character seems to have bene given one.
Wizard of oz minifigures - Awesome
Everything else - Meh.
Golf club with Lord Business....finally
Interesting set.
Any guesses on the upcoming new series coming out in May teased on the bottom right?
mine is a Star Wars themed minifigs.
Are the wizard of oz figs just thrown in there because there was nowhere else to put them or are they actually going to be in the movie?
Purple spaceman?
Damn, just looked again and it's a crayon, not a companion to rocket boy.
Yet Again..... lots of must haves..... damn their creative minds...... really not sure why but I really need both full size and baby "dark blue" dinosaurs from TLM2
Not looking forward to the revelation that they are going to continue with the ‘chase’ figure in each box.
I love the giraffe guy as an addition to the "minifigs wearing animal costumes" collection. And I'm definitely gonna buy the guy who's wearing a watermelon costume, too.
I think the Wizard of Oz figures are must-haves (so Lego bought the rights to them? Or were they public domain, by now?), but beyond that, I don't much care for the rest of them, actually.
@Zordboy, LEGO has already released the Wicked Witch and a WoOz level for Dimensions, and she appeared alongside flying monkey minifigs in The LEGO Batman Movie, so they might have had the rights already. It seems WB are working to keep the film relevant, which I think is wonderful. It seems like Wizard of Oz is a separate theme within this minifig series, probably to mark the 80th anniversary, but I also expect a cameo in The LEGO Movie 2.
Will probably try to get the giraffe, crayon and the watermelon
I was really hoping that the Sewer Babies were going to put in an appearance, hopefully all in one bag.
Interesting that there aren't any CMDs in this series though.
Seems Lego has given zombie fans a golf club with President Business, I like these but I will try to aim for Danger Rex and his baby raptor. There also seems to be a new hatched piece with tin man and I am actually surprised at the words of that tease: "new CMF in May, you'll be surprised."
Still mad over Lego Dimensions cancel. This cheers me up way too much though. Brilliant series.
Am I the only one interested in the Post Apocalyptic ones mainly?
Awesome series! I want them all! Especially Emmet! :-D
@sallocca the other minifig series coming up is Overwatch :)
Super excited for these! Wonder if I can wait for them to be half price before buying them all...
A little sad there aren’t any mini dolls in this, although my city is exclusively minifigs I was looking forward to lego finally mixing things up.
4 out of the 20 are characters singing (microphone accessory included), why so many? Not much excited about those, I would have preferred more post apocalyptic characters or costume guys instead.
@bricks4everyone I think it's supposed to be a musical, so... And all the Wizard of Oz characters sing too, you know.
Cool. The watermelon one looks cool.
Obviously we don’t know what role the Wizard of Oz characters will play. But the witch and monkeys appeared in the Lego Batman movie and Dimensions game, so they’re trying to implement them again here. I doubt they have a big part in the movie, but Lego knows they’ll be popular so releasing them here was smart.
Why Wizard if OZ?
Or is that a spoiler?
I'm disappointed there is no Emmet in the green elf hat from the holiday short. I really hope there'll be a second series that'll include that minifig. I REALLY want that minifig lol.
Finally! A golf club! I feel my sport has been poorly represented until now. And that giraffe is the best. Seems sad to have it AFTER Toys R Us is gone. (At least in my part of the world.)
Post apocalyptic Lincoln looks great! Might try to pick up Rex with the baby raptor. If the tease for May is Overwatch I think it would be a mistake. The sets are already being discounted. Seeing how popular Space Squad is proving a series with just space themes would be great. Everything from Classic, Blacktron, Mtron, Space Police (as long as it’s 1 or 2), Ice Planet, etc. with new ones added.
YES WIZARD OF OZ
Been hoping they would release Dorothy & co to go with the previous Wicked Witch and Flying Monkeys. I was always surprised they didn't release them in the Dimensions era
https://catalogs.lego.com/BrandCatalog/1hy2019/we/it/?page=22 <- A new "magic" series coming next May, according to the Italian catalogue...
You know what's the most weird to me out of this collection?
They've got all these wild characters, that are either in costumes or are variants on the movie's main players... and then, in the middle of them all, you have THE most standard figure of Unikitty ever. Aside from the new neck piece, she looks exactly the same as the one from the first Lego Movie sets, nothing to mark her as unique.
Did the designers just run out of ideas for new Unikitty designs, or...?
New May series will surprise you? Marvel please.
Looks like they will be easy to decipher when feel-hunting through the bags. Always a bonus. And Jeff is looking pretty cool with the mohawk!
This is the "franken-figure" collection - a group of disparate items cobbled together to make a whole.
Like Mary Shelley's creation, we have some parts that are more desirable than others:
3 great costumed minifigs that would have been at home in Series 18,
4 good Wizard of OZ minifigs for Dimensions packs that never got off the ground, and
13 meh TLM2 minifigs
Love the pink tiger guitar - will have to get one for the LEGO version of my band.
@ryderfan, that’s what the Lego movies are; a bunch of different and seemingly conflicting things coming together to form a whole. That was a big part of the message of the first movie and likely the second one as well.
I will try and get around 10 dogs to my collection! Of the figs I will probably try to get giraffe, watermelon and crayon.
This series is not for me I must say :S
3 costumed figs (after series 18, really? 2 look ok and the giraffe look great)
4 WoOz (only want the dog, but nice for those who want the rest)
4 bandmembers! (come on waste of space)
1 unikitty?! (not even a minifig and we just got a whole shipload of unikitty parts packs)
3 "updated" figs from last series (that "cat" must be the most wasted animal mould space so far, why not given us a crookshanks mould in HP :S)
4 figs that are in plenty of sets looking more or less the same..
1 monster similar to what we have had in earlier sets..
@sallocca May will be series 19 of the regular minifigures and September will be Disney series 2.
I really like all the figures apart from some that really do not fit. The Wizard of Oz is a movie I never found interest in so I am a bit annoyed that Lego try to implement it in every movie possible. My favourites:
1. Giraffe Man
2. President Business
3. Mrs Scratchen-Post
Oz characters, costumes, and some parts are all I need.
Oh look, another IDEAS project been ripped off. Looking at you, Wizard of Oz...
I, ve spotted these here n there on instagram, i love most of them, giraffe and water melon guy and all the wizard of Oz figs i want,
And Rex and that little dinosaur would be a nice addition to my minifigs too,
BUT NO SEWER BABIES?
Bring on Disney minifigs series 2 lego and hurry:
President Business is the one I'm getting. Pass on the others easy.
I hope LEGO won't pull another chase minifig stunt here.
@Nesquik
If both the project and the series are based off of the Wizard of Oz, how is the project being ripped off? Even if that project never existed LEGO probably would’ve made this. With that logic, both the IDEAS project AND the series are ripoffs of the original movie.
I hate that they make these things with the minifigures posed in poses they can not actually do
Looking forward to getting the crayon suit girl, dorothy, lion, and rex. I acctually don't have Benny yet so I would pick him up too, but I will probably get the space battle pack instead.
I really hope the May series is Star Wars. It would make sense with May 4th being international Star Wars day.
@Crae, I don’t see any of these being posed unnaturally. A few camera angles may make things look different, but I think all of these are posed in legitimate ways.
@Nesquik, I don’t see how this rips off IDEAS at all. Considering the wizard of oz has been used in Lego Batman and Dimensions, you cant say that they ripped of IDEAS when in fact they’ve been using wizard of oz before.
Everyone keeps saying star wars for May, but what can that theme give us that hasn't been done multiple times in the sets?
As for this series, I could easily want about half, but I'll likely just find a complete set of the price is right. I found HP for under retail so here's hoping.
WHY DO WE HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL FEBRUARY?!
I WANT THEM NOW!!!!!!!
Love all of the these. Really hoping to see a second wave like we did with the Batman movie. I just appreciate the fact that lego did not need to create a post apocalyptic cat mold..but they did. They did that for us. Really excited for February!
Everyone who says it’s Star Wars in May, remember LEGO has confirmed that it cannot produce Star Wars collectibles, which is why Battle packs exist. The “magical” teaser makes me think it’s Wizarding World S2 in May, but following the regular schedule, it’d be S19.
Sweet, steampunk Lincoln!
I will be getting these for the baby raptor, as well as Toto. Yay new animal pieces!
I really like these honestly, also isn't the one on the top right the swamp monster from one of the older series?
*For everyone that doesn’t speak Italian*
The bottom right yellow tease says: “A new magical series coming in may”
Note the word “magical”, what series could it be? Maybe Disney S2?
I like Abraham Lincoln (Vampire Hunter) and love that Miss Scratch'n Post figure with mohawk cat, but the rest is probably not meant for me.. Wizard of Oz is also not for me, don't even know the movie..
Really only interested in the watermelon, giraffe, and The Wizard of Oz figs...possibly that new President Business, but overall I’m actually a little disappointed by this series...
Why are there 4 dancer/singer girls? They’re pretty boring figs, not sure why we need so many of them. On the other hand, just noticed the mohawk on the cat. That’s actually pretty cool.
@CapnRex101: You're welcome!
I'd of preferred Doctor Who to Wizard of Oz.
From what I can tell:
•7 Bricksburg residents(including Emmett, Lucy, Unikitty, and Benny)
•4 Wizard of Oz characters
•3 Costumed characters
•4 Singer girls(I’m thinking they’re from the Sistar system)
•That Cowboy(?)Rex minifigure(I’m thinking it may be from the Wild West world seen in the first movie?)
What am I missing? I feel like I’m missing something.
OH GOD. I thought I was out; I even resisted the minifigure anniversary ones... and now they've gone and done The Wizard of Oz!!
@GrizBe:
They've already got a couple versions of Batman in the retail sets, and by my count, prior to TLM2, they've already released 53 distinct versions of Batman between the original Batman theme, DC Superheroes, Mighty Micros, TLBM, and Dimensions (54 if you count the Kiss Kiss Tuxedo Batman keychain). That's not counting alternate heads/legs/capes/cowls, instances where Robin (or Batgirl) has been wearing a TLBM Batman costume, Bruce Wayne, or characters who look like Batman but aren't (Batzarro). The current wave of TLM2 makes 53, and there's another one coming that has different deco on the arms and legs. It's still wearing the tire shoulder armor, so I have no idea if the torso looks different.
@Brickalili & Zordboy:
MGM produced it, but somehow WB ended up with ownership of both the 1939 movie and the ruby slippers (they were silver in the book, but red stands out more when you're throwing a fortune at producing one of the first color movies of its time), but not the books. The Dimensions pack has a logo with ruby slippers, which appears to be WB's 70th anniversary logo, and the TLBM Wicked Witch is the exact same minifig as the Dimensions version. The certainly had to license the property for the original Dimensions pack, but WB is co-owner of TLM/TLBM/TLM2, so I'm not sure they actually had to license it to put the characters in TLBM or TLM2. The movie deal probably covered any licensing issues where WB owns the licensing rights. TLM had SW characters and TLBM had Daleks, so don't be shocked if we see more outside characters in TLM2 that either can't be released at all, or can only be released via other themes.
@Lordmoral:
I was thinking more TMNT or NASA. Most golf clubs really aren't sturdy enough to handle more than one or two hard hits before they're twisted up like spaghetti. I know that zombie cinema tends to depict them as having skulls that are as soft as a watermelon rind, but you still shouldn't be able to do that to someone who was still warm-blooded a few hours earlier.
@BionicleJedi:
She's a main character in TLM, and appears to be again in TLM2. There's not a single standard Unikitty in the entire run of sets prior to the CMF line. Every version of her besides this is red and angry. Maybe they did this just so there'd be at least one regular Unikitty in the mix (nevermind that you can get several from the Unikitty TV series theme).
@Nesquik:
They already licensed Oz for Dimensions, and the same Wicked Witch is still available in the Ultimate Batmobile. Ideas can't touch the IP for at least a couple more years anyways.
@Mr. Thrawn:
There have been rumors of a 2nd Disney CMF run on the horizon, which would also satisfy the "magical" bit.
@DecR504:
The Swamp Creature was revealed as a Masterbuilder in TLM during the Cloud Cuckoo Land sequence. And your tally mentions 7 Bricksburg residents, which probably omits either Lincoln or the Swamp Creature (neither of whom was ever actually shown in Bricksburg prior to Taco Tuesday). I'm assuming Business and Scratchen-Post are your 5 and 6.
Post-Apocalyptic Mrs. Scratchen-Post is pretty great
Well at least we know President Business is still here. I guess you could say he has retired because he's golfing.
Overall, this series is kind of meh to me as well. I like disco Wildstyle's record tile and its neat to see the Wizard of Oz for people who are into that, but nothing really appeals to me except for 'retired' President Business. I will say that the giraffe guy is well done though.
Need the four bright music girls, crayon person and giraffe too are great!
I just want Dorothy to get Toto and I have the first Mrs Scratchenpost so need this one too!
Pretty sure Unikitty does have a slightly different face (like the dimensions one but different mouth?)
@Purple Dave: I’m thinking Lincoln and the Swamp Creaure are now Bricksburg residents, especially when comparing their clothing to that of the figs from the D2C. I kind of like that new swamp creature, as I have the original one from Monster Fighters. One of those was probably the one I missed. Thanks for the info :)
@ Purple Dave: they've only got 2 version of Batman in the TLM2 sets, one in 70836, and another in the yet unreleased 70840. And having so many different versions of Batman over the years shows you how well he sells which shows its stupid not to have a TLM2 CMF version of him.
As said, for Metalbeard too, every version of him in the sets is identical if you discount the vehicle bits, so a different CMF version of him would make sense. Perhaps with his pre-robot body?
Anyone know how to get to the brand catalog in English for those of us who can't read Italian in the catalog linked above by @The-Cobra? I tried going just to https://catalogs.lego.com/BrandCatalog/ and https://catalogs.lego.com but only got 404 errors.
I'm not liking the Swamp Creature. He was one of my favorite minifigures of all time and I was looking forward to his postapacolyptic form and it just feels...odd. Especially the lime green torso.
Am I the only one suspecting that a few of these were extras, originally planned for or leftover from other projects? The Wizard of Oz figs we’re likely designed for Dimensions as we got the Witch and Flying Monkeys there. The Girafe Suit Guy makes me think it was developed in some way for or as a nod to TRU, before they imploded. There’s just too much Geoffrey going on there.
I love the Golf Outfit Lord Business and the Post Apocalyptic Mrs Scratchen Post.
And the “Magical” next theme? Haven’t there been rumors of a second Disney series for months? It’s likely that.
A bit confused that there is such difference in the catalogs depending on which language you choose... SWE: https://catalogs.lego.com/BrandCatalog/1hy2019/we/sv/ - for example lacks a lot of the stuff in the ENG, "international" version: https://catalogs.lego.com/BrandCatalog/1hy2019/reemea/enmea/ - Most noticeable however is that the Swedish one says the new Speed Champion sets will be out in March....! haha...
Will there be a collection of 12 or 24 colors of crayons in the future?
I really want one.......or maybe two packs of them!
Looks like a fun series.
For me, I've basically retreated to working exclusively on my LEGO town, so from that perspective:
1. The President Business torso/legs are great
2. The Hawaiian singer looks good too, maybe with a different hairpiece - tropical scenes or Tiki Lounge
3. The two singing girls have an 80s vibe, and while stretching it, the Watermelon Guy and Giraffe could find some 'real world' value.
4. I think I may be one of those picking up the Wizard of Oz set - not much money for iconic figures
5. While not for me, I can see those folks who will fork out the big bucks for the Statue of Liberty/Post-Apocalypse Set wanting to popular it with extra figs, and from that point of view, only 3 or 4 is a bit on the short side, but there may be Wave 2. Still these 3-4 figs looks great.
6. I think we can all agree that Sewer Babies need to make a mini-figure appearance some time soon...
I’m most excited for the giraffe costume guy, he’ll fit great in my Toys R Us MOC!
@Grizbe, Batman may be popular and sell well, but they have done a lot of him over the past few years, and the movie might not have but one or two versions of him. And if that’s the case, they aren’t going to release him as an individual when he’s already in a set. The collectible minifigure series are how they sell characters you won’t find in a set. I’d much rather an obscure character get a spot than another Batman. He did have two series for him after all already.
I would like a prerobot Metalbeard, but that probably wouldn’t be appropriate for a series based on the second movie.
Nobody's commenting on the fact that it will be a double-bag collection... Harder to feel, like the Unikitty CMF line. This sucks. If to this they add an increase in price, I won't be buying...
@davidredjoy Speed Champions will be out in New Zealand in March too. Was told the release dates by a toy shop owner.
@GrizBe:
Oh, I'm the last person who would complain about a new Batman minifig. My collection of unique Batman-related minifigs passed 300 a few months ago, and I've still got a ton of gaps to fill (Joker Manor, OMAC/Appmobile sets, TLM2 Batman, several of the unreleased crazy Batsuits from TLBM that are possible to build, etc.), and my collection of unique actual Batman minifigs is around 70 right now. But TLM never gave him a costume change so all they managed there was to give him an alternate head with two new faces. This might be a similar case. They're limited to what happens in the movie. The tire armor is removable, so maybe that's another alternate outfit right there, but everyone would throw a fit if they wasted a slot on a minifig that's essentially repeated in the retail sets, like they did with Arkham Joker from the first TLBM CMF wave.
As for Metalbeard, he's already got two sets devoted specifically to him, plus he appears in two other sets. I think Unikitty was the only character who got more than four distinct versions in TLM.
@davidredjoy:
Catalogs for different markets are generated and approved by different departments. Anything used to market in the US is likely to come from Enfield, but it wouldn't make any sense to have them produce material for Europe. What one department may approve for their market, another may decide to hold back until a later date.
@Tzu:
We already have the only one that matters. I'm just curious how long we have to wait for a Harold MOC...
"A new magical series coming in May"
Disney if I had to guess.
WIZARD OF OOOOOOZ!!!!!!
@BionicleJedi:
Whoops. I misspoke on that. I couldn't remember any Unikitties besides Disco, Warrior, and Ultrakitty. I forgot there's a sitting Unikitty in Lucy's Builder Box, and of course she's the title character in Unikitty's Sweetest Friends EVER!, so it does seem a bit weird to put her in this CMF wave. But maybe she just doesn't have a lot of options in this film, and they wanted to make sure she was included as a main character. It might have made more sense to include Warrior Kitty instead of putting her in Emmet's Dream House.
Any word on how many of each will be in a case?
All the AFOLS are gonna snatch up all the Wizard of Oz figs!
I think the Italian to English translation is confusing people. The English version here https://www.thebrickfan.com/the-lego-movie-2-collectible-minifigures-71023-first-look/ merely says 'A new series out in May YOU'LL BE SURPRISED'.
So still intriguing, but no reference to magic.
@graymattr: https://www.promobricks.de/alle-lego-kataloge-1-halbjahr-2019-ueberblick-download/73447
@Andhe: I don't know what to think, I wonder what they say about the new series in other countries (the magic/magical reference). See link above.
The May Series is most likely the Disney 2 series.
Is that Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Slayer???!!!
Jnscoelho - Where do they say it's supposed to be a double-bagged collection? I just thinks it's strange that they would do something that adds cost and complexity without any obvious benefit, especially if they risks turning buyers away. Is it possible that it's just the Unikitty that's double-bagged?
Interestingly this series seems to separate into 5 distinct groups. We have 5 major characters (Emmet, Wyldstyle, Benny, Unikitty and Mr. Business), 3 Apocalypsenburg residents (Lincoln, Dino guy and Cat lady), 4 Costumes/animals (Crayon, Melon, Giraffe and Swamp monster), 4 singing ladies and the 4 Oz characters (Dorothy, Tin Man, Lion and Scarecrow). Oddly only the Oz figures tempts me slightly (despite me not caring about that movie at all), while the many singing ladies seems particularly bland and uninteresting.
Personally I suspect that Unikitty is the "chase" figure, since it's so plain kids wouldn't care (as they probably has several similar ones already) but the completists would still go through hell and high waters to get it, at least it should be easy to recognize. No matter what, this is such an utterly stupid idea, especially when a 20-figure series allows for 3 complete sets in a box.
As others has mentioned, it's a little worrying that we haven't seen anything of the Sewer Babies yet, even if they don't get their own set I really expected to see them in the main Apocalypsenburg one. Do Lego plan to release them in wave 2 (after seeing how they're received in the movie) or do the plan to just bungle it up?
I'd pay almost anything for a Sewer Babies set, but I think it might be technically hard to do them properly. If I remember correctly, the babies in the trailer are each holding various objects/weapons of some kind, and that's not really possible with how the babies are made. There aren't any objects that I'm aware of currently that would fit in their small hands. I don't think their hands are really made to hold anything anyways. But as I mentioned, I'd be more than happy if they did release one or two of them.
In regards to the possible double-bagging like the Unikitty sets, perhaps those were double bagged simply because of the manufacturing process? All of the Unikitty parts are basic bricks and pieces, not minifgures or accessories. As such, perhaps in the factory it was easier and more cost-effective to have them packed in those smaller bags as opposed to going straight into a minifigure bag, which is why these ones are coming in the larger bag; because of the Unikitty figure. Just a thought here.
Mikey Likey!!!
Definitely getting the Apocalypse and the Wizard of Oz figs.
Will go nicely to add to the Flying Monkeys and Wicked Witch from the Ultimate Batmobile kit.
I suspect sewer babies are being reserved for a yet to be announced super expensive set.
The box art pictures do appear to show them in the larger unikitty series bags. I suspect this might also mean a price hike...
@PurpleDave @AlanSmith I agree, this is ofc possible and correct. However - I just got more than half of the new SC sets through LEGO.com which has them available to Sweden since Jan 1st... xD
Really hoping that this surprise series in May is a Marvel Studios “The First Ten Years” series. With Avengers: Endgame releasing the last week of April having that series drop the first week of May would time up right, seeing as though Endgame was supposed to be released the first week of May before being moved up.
Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter!
@axeleng — the Swamp Creature was one of the Master Builders showing up in TLM 1.
My thoughts about the possible bigger bags/double bags like the UniKitty series is that they are switching to that form factor to include larger pieces (like the giraffe head). I doubt there would be a price increase . . . the Unikitty series was also 3.99.
I'm also not too worried about being able to "feel" them in the new packaging . . . I found the Unikitty series hard to feel for, but that was because all of them had similar pieces, not because I couldn't feel through the double bag.
Also--post-apocalyptic figs are my favorite! Really like the Lincoln and Cat-Lady redos. . . was hoping for a "Where's my Pants" post apocalyptic guy too . . . and like everyone else I was really hoping for the sewer babies to appear.
I love the Wizard of Oz ones! I think I know what May will be. It mentioned magical. So I am going to guess Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts
Wizard of Oz are awesome - really like Benny as well :)
Great figs, gonna get giraffe for sure
