Atlantis images
Posted by Huw,
At last, some non-watermarked images of Atlantis sets have energed, in sirdano's flickr stream. Some are still watermarked confidential, however, so I'm treading on shaky ground here by posting the link.
Now we can see them in great detail, I have to say, they look better than I had originally anticipated. The red submersibles in particular look great, with common design elements throughout (e.g. the curved, bulbous noses) and the sea creatures are not too shabby either. Roll on 2010!
(Thanks dav)

I've got the feeling that this is gonna be an epic fail... well, I won't get one of them.
Ulch... *Cough**Cough*... horrible headgear! 2010 will be a bad year for minifigs... looks like LEGO is going crazy with minifigs! The minifigs are ugly! BAD year... It reminds me a little of the Aquazone sets and headgear!
P.S. Is Atlantis a licenced theme?
Another aqua raiders. :-( (And look how long aqua raiders lasted)
Interesting new pieces. If they aren't too expensive (fat chance), I think I might get the golden gate one. I can't wait to hear the official storyline about this one.
LEGO is playing too much with minifigs! Rating: 2/10!
I just love the new canopies and minifigs and theres a female minifig too thats great/
Why all the dislike of the figs? I love 'em! The Cthulhu one is great, and the headgear (for both the divers and the Atlanteans) is awesome. The diving headgear especially has so many potential applications.
As for the sets, I'll probably end up getting at least $30 worth. I NEED that eye-patch head.
@18000pieces: Because the very essence of the minifig is in danger! Those heads are too specialised! I hate those!
I don't see what's so bad about the minifigz; and the sets are great!
Look guys, I'm old-fashioned: I don't like new stuff, especially if it involves LEGO! And these minifigs are too radical to me! Those heads are too ugly and look targeted at older kids!
looks interesting but I can't help thinking it won't be very profitable for lego
WAIT!!! Look at the side of the big boxes! It says "First LEGO DVD Movie: LEGO Adventures: Spring 2010"!
Back-firing missles???? I want those mini figs. Look, you have been blinded people. The mini fig was slowly walking forward and then he has turned around to relive the good old days and you think that that is where he stays. The minifig then wanted to have fun and walk backwords. Now you think his reputation is going back as well. NO, this is wrong, the mini fig is now not looking where he is going and is getting added to without slowly imbracing himself, he is charging to the future without hesitation and we must accept it. Come join me, run backwards with the minifigures. run backwords through a room(for real) and then post your support here.
Don't those cool squid/shark mini fig pieces look cool. I want these more than I want the space police sets.
Captain Aardvark: Good Idea, let us call the new minifigs "minifigz" I like it.
Alemas: YES WOOOOOOOOOOOOO Thanks man, I think you and I are friends here right?
@GameOn: Yes, we are friends! I will always say "minifigs" though!
@Alemas - Just wanting to clarify - you do know that these heads are composed of a regular fig head (with prints no more specialized than those from star wars) with a helmet over it that gives it its marine shape, right? Even king Octopus/Cthulhu has a helmet that makes his beard and hair.
If I shared your convictions, I wouldn't be worrying about these figs, I'd be worrying about the Toy Story figs... those disturb even me...
Hey, did anyone notice there is a rubber band activated play thing uder the octopus gate? it looks like it is liked to the gate opening. I'm gonna keep posting cool things I notice, so get used to it.
Those triangle things look important and yes, I am stating the obvious. One has a turtle, one has a crab(in the crab set) and 2 have squids(one in the squid set) and two manta ones, hmmmm. I deduce that the atlantians and divers are fighting over these because they either control the respective animal or they need one of each to open the gate to atlantis and the "atlantians" are exiled criminals that want revenge on king neptune(in that other set I bet). I hope everyone has a name.
The only good new sets of 2010...
Haven't these pictures been on Brickipedia for a while? I thought they were.
2010 is looking like one of Lego's greatest years, and at the same time, one of there worst. With the awesome Power Miners and Atlantis, and the suckish Ben 10 and IMPROPER TOY STORY FIGURES, it's kinda hard to decide...
Personally, I think the figures look AWESOME!!! I see the diver suits having potential for being Power Miners lava divers!
u didnt post the limited edition porcupine monster! was that confidential? :(
AWESOME!!!!! 10/10!
@18000pieces: Yes, I do know! It's the helmets that are too specialised!
@HobbesFan08: How so?
Yup I definately love and want these sets. ALL OF em'! Who doesnt love the legend of a sunken advanced civilization. Now, its in ur home; immortalized in brick by Lego.
Thank you Lego...for saving me some cash...like the Powerminer sets, Atlantis is not classic enough for me to invest in...
Can't wait to see the other themes, I'm sure there are other that we can only imagine, and isn't that what LEGO is about?
I want that mutant spikey thing.......NOW
The spikey thing special one looks as if the claw pieces are new. Too big to be the ones on a trolls head or anglerfish teeth and too small to be the dragon tail ones........unless it it that big, they have done poor sizing before, remember crab crusher, the box made it look as if the crab was bigger than the sub.
what is with the disk with the sea life on them i like the tridents for the atlantians.but why are only three atlantians minifigs
Wow, these sets look neat...I'm going to pick up a few, especially the one with the Cthulu minifig.
How can anyone the figs are horrid? The shark-head and manta-head look absolutely cool, not to forget the divers!
I like to think they were considering the future of the Pirates range when they designed that eyepatch. Probably just wishful thinking, but it would make economic sense.
I may have to add that face to my pirate crew just because.
They ought to continue the pirate range. It has much more potential than this. Atlantis is just another disappointing Aquaraiders-like attempt to bring back underwater sets. The idea of sunken cities could have been great.
The dark red (if that is what color they are) slopes will be a welcome addition to my brick collection. I like the SP3 minifigs (I just got Kranxx and his head is cool) so I like these Atlantean figs so far.
Everyone hated Power Miners when the pics were leaked last year and that line has done so well for LEGO that a 2nd wave of PM sets has been released and a 3rd wave of sets is on its way.
If these sets do indeed have dark red I will be buying them when they are on clearance/sale if and when that happens!
half minifigs- half sea creatures? whats not to love, this will be better than aqua-raiders, people should enjoy all the new themes
I like the Turbojet, and the Monstercrab set, although I'll probably just get the Turbojet.
What are the sets based on?
Republic Commando Sev: ancient myths and legends (that I belive true) i'm sure. or maybe lego just had a creative spark on sea monsters.
I love all the mutant sea creature minifigures!
But that's all I want.
These sets look very cool and the new minifigs look great. If you don't like them, don't buy them. But I don't see what all the complaining is about. If all you want is the plain old minifig with no innovation, why do you even bother with new sets? Just buy old "classic" stuff off of ebay.
Sweet!
They just look Awesome!
These look pathetic. Seriously, the shark doesn't evan have fins, just a minifig body! How stupid is that! The vehicles look terrible as well. It is a horrible remake of Aqua Raiders, which was another horrible remakeof somethign else. I mean seriously, what's with the mutant crab thing? And the medallions they're carrying around? As said by DJimbo, these will be an epic fail. The only cool thing is the divers.
Amazon.com has different names, plus prices, for the sets than Brickipedia. The names Brickipedia uses are the English translations of the German titles.
The English names:
8056 Monster Crab Clash - $9.99
8057 Wreck Raider - $12.99
8058 Guardian of the Deep - $16.99
8059 Seabed Scavenger - $16.99
8060 Typhoon Turbo Sub - $24.99
8061 Gateway of the Squid - $39.99
8075 Neptune Carrier - $59.99
No mention of the two impulses or 8079.
@ARC170: Finally someone with me!
Wow, what's with all the hate? Those sub designs are awesome! And I like the suits. The whole theme has a very cool steampunk/Jules Verne feel to it. VERY NICE. I will be getting all the ships for sure!
I wouldn't compare it to the suck that was Aqua Raiders. More like the awesomeness that was Aquazone!
Take a look at the background of each of the boxes ... hints of a major set to come later, in the 2nd wave ?
Personally, I think these sets look great; in particular there are some interesting parts selections and construction techniques in there, and some great play features. I think this theme is going to be huge & I'm **really** looking forward to them :-)
Ian
alemas, dino: FYI, they're not suppoosed to have fins, they're atlantians: sea creature people
blue moose, THANK YOU, someone else that likes these.
Everyone else: STOP SLAMMING AQUA RAIDERS. They were totally awesome and you know it. They wernt that expensive and they were no different from space police, all vehicles and one base with tons of playability, and they're a big hit, now how do ya feel. >=(
These look cool! Looks a lot like the previous Aqua Raiders sets though.
*takes a look at all these sets* yep, I see the hint, =D the triforce piece looks cool, maybe I can use it as a triforce for a line of link lego sets, =P =P =P
@GameOn: Was it the old or new Aqua Raiders you are talking about? I don't get it...
I think these are very interesting. I'm not sure whether I really like them or not. Some are quite cool looking, like 8057 Wreck Raider or (I believe) the Typhoon Turbojet Sub. The minifigs are pretty good looking too. I don't see the problem with making specialized heads. It makes them more interesting and realistic. They've been doing it in Star Wars pretty much ever since it's release. The squid-like head could be useful as a Quarren headpiece, or for some Davy Jones minifigs.
@THX: The helmets are too big and specialised! They should be more subtle! I HATE them!
Alemas: Aquaraiders II, the one everyone says is a cheap knockoff. You may be confused because You think that I think the one all are slamming is the original and that I think that ARII is bad. Nope, The second ones were just as good if not better in my eyes and I think that people should stop bad-mouthing them.
alemas:GEE WHIZ!!! whats up with all the stuff about the headgear!!??? I like it FINE! at least it's not that rubbish galidor-like BEN 10!
bluemoose:YES, they rock!!
@supertails: HEY! Don't insult people and say kind-of-bad words!
@GameOn: I see, that makes sense! I say Aqua Raiders II wasn't THAT bad! They looked cool!
This new theme, Atlantis, look like more another "extraction-related" theme, just like power miners or Mars Mission, with lots of vehicles and creatures. As usual, I prefer the creatures over the vehicles. The same for the minifigs.
That is why the set I likes more until now is the new 8079. It has 6 Black Kiina's(8987) armors! Unfortunately, it is a limited edition, what means that it probably will not become available for me.
@Gus: What do you mean "extraction-related"? I don't get it...
@Alemas: Sorry, I would spell in get resources through natural devastation. Mars Mission and Power Miners have mining machines, hunt aliens/rock monsters, and some of those new sets (Atlantis) look like to have it as well. But is is more like aqua raiders: Human vs. Creatures.
@Gus: I guessed right then! Yeah, probably it will have the same basis! Still, the headgear and heads put me off from buying them! Too scary and ugly!
Oh come on, guys! I like 'em! After all, they ARE LEGO!
Yo-ho-ho,
Cap'n Crayfish
Maybe thay are not showing us the other ones like neptunes sub or whatever it's new name is because they have lots of new pieces, that might be fun.
Atlanteans or not, it's stupid! What they SHOULD of done was Stargate Atalantis, or the old cartoon atlantis. But this- this just mskes me gag. No Atlantiss movie or story shows mutant sharks. The best backstory here is that divers went down and somehow mutated into sea animals. After all, the freaky guy has pockets! I may only get the diver inpulse, ad is the squid is in an impulse, that too. BUT THAT'S IT! Lego is really going down hill, and this proves it.
@Dinofighter: THEY ARE NOT STUPID! LEGO IS NOT GOING DOWN THE HILL, AND THIS PROVES IT! WHY DOES EVERYBODY HATE ATLANTIS?! WHAT"S WRONG WITH IT?!
*Whew* Sorry about exploding like that, guys, but it does make me mad. >:(
Yo-ho-ho,
Cap'n Crayfish
Hey guys, why don't we all calm down a bit & take some deep breaths ... we've no idea what the back-story is, or what the playability functions are, or any thing else concrete about any of these sets. Give it a couple of months until the sets are on the shelf in your local TRU/Target/Whatever and then we all might have opinions that are worth something. Until then, lets just all try to be a little calmer, OK ?
Lets just remember that *LEGO* haven't shown us anything yet; they don't even want us to know about any of these sets yet - when the official announcement comes, I'm sure it will be supported by a whole load of additional information.
Play Well.
Ah, well said, bluemoose, me hearty!
Yo-ho-ho,
Cap'n Crayfish
@bluemoose: Yeah, you're right! Maybe it will be better than we think!
bluemoose, you're right, we did kind of flip out. We should wait and see what happens and quit arguing.
(these are cool) HEY, FINGERS, stop typing when I tell you not to.
Personally, I like just about everything about these. I've already thought of other uses for the headgear (easy integration to an exo-skeleton, for one), and I'm real excited about the set that may result from the background image (although it reminds me quite a lot of the tower of toa)
I really like these!!! The helmets are awesome and the ships are unique!
Maybe the background is that atlantis gate that needs all of the key triangles that i was talking about.
I was a big fan of the Aquaraiders, but these aren't really doing anything for me. Some of the minifigs are cool, (Cthulu, sharkman, and the other underwater-dwelling ones), as well as some of the bigger monster creatures, but the vehicles and human minifigs aren't too compelling. We'll see, though. Like bluemoose said, it's a while before they launch, so it's hard to form an objective opinion about them right now.
I certanly hope it'll be better. it's just, LEGO is beggining to bug me. First they stop Lego Star wars, now there's the possibility of Indy ending, Lego is making really annoying themes like Ben 10, And several other flaws. Plus they're deleting all the old games.
These atlantis sets look AWESOME!!!! The ships look too cool! Why dont some you of like them? There awesome!
Ryan, to put it simply, because they AREN'T awesome. What they ARE is a seeminly terrible waste of time, that the poor LEGO makers spent too much time working on them. The 'Atlanteans' are horrible, The ships are ugly, and the helmets seem to be getting worse the more I look at them. Does nobody notice these things?
Oh, and Starwars is ending., they announced, remember?
This looks like a really cool theme! I wish they were coming out before February.
I can see you all having a hissy-fit about the minifigs, but I think that vehicle in particular would be very useful to me.
Although flick-fires are annoying, they are handy pieces, and I'd kill for a bley grappling hook, but we get two, cheap!
As an avid Star Wars collector, I think this has a good load of pieces for MOCing, such as the light bley engine in the center. Pretty much, all they bley pieces are there.
Here's what's wrong with the helmets: They're cool pieces, but you can see that they are bald underneath and look hideous. The shark is just stupid. They even had one for that old Harry Potter set already! The ring thing probably has a sticker on it, which can be removed, which may be sort of a good think because I can think of about six engine-related uses for one of those on a starship. The spear is a nice touch too.
Finally, for those who say this is "another aquaraiders," you really have to think again. Unlike Aqua Raiders, this has a defined enemy and a real plot. Now who's to say it's a plot with a point, but a plot nontheless. In Aquaraiders, it was a bunch of humans beating up giant sea animals, who had full right to live there. How worthwhile.
that Tridant would look cool on that one gold knight from that new tower/drawbridge Castle set!
OK, that's enough squabbling. I'm locking this thread.
