Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 15

Posted by ,

Star Wars Advent Calendars generally maintain consistent theming for several days but this set has been surprisingly varied. However, another Prequel Trilogy item seems likely today.

There are certainly plenty of possibilities...

Battle Droids are exceptionally common and another of these characters appears today. These figures are useful for assembling an army, although something more distinctive would have been preferable on day fifteen. No decoration differentiates this droid from others but I appreciate the subtle moulded detail across its head.

In addition, the Battle Droid wields a black blaster rifle. It seems increasingly probable that this Advent Calendar might escape the need for any weapons racks, following the brilliant example of 75146 Star Wars Advent Calendar that was produced during 2016! Of course, eight days still remain so we cannot confirm this yet.

Overall - 2.5 - Army building is an important aspect of LEGO Star Wars and more Battle Droids are generally welcome, although I think the Advent Calendar could offer something better.

Geez this is bad. Droid are always welcome but for an advent calendar, it really should be more exciting or even a different droid that just isn't tan all around.

If my math is correct, if you've bought every Lego Star Wars Calendar from 2011 onward, you now have six B-1 Battle Droids, including a blue and a red one. You also have two advanced models, if that helps.

I wish we'd get a new Magnaguard, personally.

Oh, how I wish that the battle droid would be more distinctive with color. I'm happy it has a blaster.

By in Germany,

Not like I don't already have dozens of these guys... they're just the saddest filler to get in calendars.

What a disappointment. Worst day by far. Today’s Battle of the Licensed Calendars will be a massacre.

I'd have liked one of the forest battle droids from the gunship personally. Plain tan is duuuuull.

Honestly if they wanted to give us a battle droid give us a super battle droid

MagnaGuard, Commando, Super Battle, there are a lot more to choose from honestly. I think LEGO has just used this thing to death, it hasn't had an upgrade from 1999 since they added the ability for them to hold their weapons properly with the straight arm. I feel LEGO should upgrade the arms on the B-1, it might be nice if they had a slightly different torso with better arms that don't crack and break over time, most of the thicker LEGO Skeleton arms haven't busted on me, but I've had to replace so many cracked Battle Droid arms I'd love to see them affect an upgraded re-design.

Part of me thinks they haven't done it as an excuse to keep the sculpts around for the droid arms.

Sigh.....there should be a rule no same build 2 years in a row. Plus it means the Harry Potter Advent calendar will now be in the lead!!!

They could at least have given us a new printed version (Kashyyk if I remember?)...

Considering the CIS uses the Star Wars equivalent of 'zerg rush' to overwhelm opponents, I really don't think it's a bad thing to get more B1's.

HOWEVER, these should not be counted as minifigs in a calendar - you can't convince me the cost to produce these droids is greater than for a regular minifigure.

Point for the Star Wars calendar today then, IMO.

Battle of the Licensed Advent Calendars continues. Day 14 saw HP bounce back to square the matchup at 7. Both calendars have been going day for day but it’s again time for one calendar to take a new lead on Day 15. Let’s find out which one is triumphant in today’s head to head matchup.

Behind door 15 of the HP advent calendar is a build able snowman. These gifts are common among advent calendars of various themes as the reviewer points out. Highlights is this variant include a wizard hat and a relatively rare scarf. The build is straightforward but does add an exterior element to the developing scene. Or perhaps this is an enchanted snowman that never melts standing within the great hall? That’s up to you.

On the flip side a generic battle droid awaited SW fans behind door 15. These droids are very common. The reviewer rightfully points out that they are welcome as army builders. Outside of this, there isn’t much to see here and todayS offering is rather plain and ordinary, even to the passing SW fan/collector.

In conclusion, based on the reviewers respective scores and general consensus of both audiences, HP takes a commanding point. With that, HP have regained their lead in what’s turning out to be a fine battle this holiday season. The score is now:

HP- 8
SW- 7

To be continued...

Receiving a battle droid in the SW advent calender has become a sort of Christmas tradition, maybe next year a commander battle droid to head this little advent group of droids from Christmas advents past.

If a battle droid, why not a Kashyyyk battle droid? It would be interesting, rare but available from a production run from this year.

Would the printed head and green body piece really have shattered TLG’s profits for the year?

Really irritated by the lack of imagination.

Exactly, couldn’t agree more.

P.S. Didn’t spot your post before writing mine. Great minds eh? :-)
