Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 21

Posted by ,

Following two days focusing upon A New Hope and two subsequent days containing gifts from The Empire Strikes Back, I anticipate something from Return of the Jedi will arrive today.

Let's open the door and find out...

In fact, our focus upon The Empire Strikes Back continues with this Twin-Pod Cloud Car. Its streamlined design has certainly been replicated here and improves upon the version from 75023 Star Wars Advent Calendar that was released during 2013. I think red was the most appropriate colour choice while the orange and dark red highlights provide welcome texture.

Moreover, the twin cockpits look superb, standing out against the surrounding red bodywork. I like the trans-light blue 1x1 tile which forms the engine too, although the associated neck bracket appears out of place and this connective strut should be slightly narrower. This structure feels very sturdy though which is great for play.

Overall - 4.5 - This is an excellent rendition of the classic Twin-Pod Cloud Car, although the light bluish grey neck bracket detracts from the model slightly.

It's a 5 rating for me. It's perfectly shaped. I do agree with you about the neck bracket color.

Quite lovely, I think it's my favourite mini model this year.

Now I'm also excited because I know what's coming tomorrow.

As Matt_Z_ informed us yesterday that he won't be able to continue the Battle of Licensed Calendars - which I feel bad about - I try to summarize the standings only:

HP - 12
SW- 9

I'm surprised this is the first bit of red in the advent so far, 21 days in.

Its a win today for the SW model today in my opinion, given the HP set is just a plain minifigure with no detailing. If you didn't know who/what it was meant to represent you'd be clueless as its not instantly recognisable, and its also incomplete without yesterdays plinth, making it only a part build. Given its been marked as a joint built, rather then on its individual basis, its been massively overscored.

In other words, its a solid win for the SW calender today.

By in Ireland,

The other crowd in the Harry Potter section reckon today's feeble effort beats this Star Wars sublime design, so to quote Darth Vader I find their lack of faith disturbing!
In my humble opinion I reckon the Star Wars effort should be awarded 3 points and the Harry Potter Advent calendar crowd for their insolence should be deducted 3 points

This is a major win for SW as this is another full missing set.

@donnyman1972 : The HP lot also pointed out that they could have easily represented the 4 house animals with already existing parts and a bunch of other flaws too

He just said that he couldn't continue due to 'unforseen circumstances' on yesterdays articles.

By in Sweden,

Clearly opinions about HP vs SW are strongly divided, but I actually find the gold minifig to be rather detailed and interesting. It seems the beard is a unique piece and the torso is uncommon too.

It being part of a larger item is only a plus to me, because it makes the resulting calendar builds more substantial, but of course this is personal preference.

On the other hand, I could have built today's SW offering from pieces I already owned so for me it's a win for HP.

HP wins again. Much more unique and interesting offering.

I like this a lot. I hope we get a minifigure scale set of it sooner rather than later, there's ships with equally little screentime with more representation than the cloud car
