Ideas review results

Posted by ,

The results of the latest Ideas review have just been announced.

From the ten projects under consideration, two have been selected. Find out what they are after the break:

It was also announced that, unfortunately, Anatomini will not be taken forward, which is a great shame.

This means there are now five Ideas sets in the pipeline: these two, plus the three that were selected in September: Pirate Bay, Sesame Street and the playable piano.

Let us know what you think of the results in the comments!

I think it's a livestream on facebook. it's driving me crazy not being able to watch it!

By in Germany,

So happy for the Blacksmith. Finally something for Castle fans!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

huh, rather surprised by the results!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Darn it! I really wanted The Office!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow, the Blacksmith is a bit of a surprise - I'm sure castle fans are overjoyed!

Gravatar
By in Norway,

Not what I was hoping for, but at least nothing space-related, well done!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Meh...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

No Thunderbirds, no buy. Can't wait to completely ignore the two sets that were picked once they land on store shelves.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

WOW

THE ONLY TWO PROJECTS I WANTED

THANK YOU LEGO

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow the Medieval Blacksmith is a dream come true and has potential to be on the same level as the Old Fishing Shop. Super excited for this one!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Wow Everyone said Winnie was out due to China.

Happy about the Blacksmith set making it.
Disappointed they didn't approve another JK Brickworks set as I thought it offered another fantastic AFOL style desk ornament.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm sure both of these sets will have a big following . . . but I was really hoping for "Pursuit of Flight" . . . oh well, can't win them all!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Was hoping for the shuttle but not surprised. Surely there is a Creator Expert shuttle in the pipeline. Neither approved sets interest me but congrats to the designers.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Pretty good selection from what has been there, I'd say. At least not more spacecraft (I really like them, but we had enough under Ideas). Sorry for all the Thunderbirds fans, but personally I had no real interest. The office looked rather boring, set-wise. Those two might be something I pick up, depending what they turn them into.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Surprised but delighted Winnie the Pooh was selected.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Pass

Gravatar
By in United States,

ANATOMINI, NOOOOOOOO!!!

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

Picking one branded and one non-branded entry is clever.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Bit sad that the office failed. Seeing how well the friends performed it’s crazy that they wouldn’t make a "the office" set

Here's hoping as I wasn't buying LEGO at the time the last ones were on the shelf. Would love to see large Creator Expert shuttle although it seems many in the community are tired of space related projects.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I thought Seven Dwarfs was the more interesting Disney model but maybe there were too many similarities to the blacksmith model? I think both of the chosen models will do well.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm personally disappointed, but happy for those that wanted one or both of these! At least I'll have more money for my MOCs...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I didn't expect either of those to get through but I like them both.
Winnie the Pooh was one of my favourite books as a kid, so adult me will enjoy building that, even though I know they will follow the Disneyfied version of the characters instead of the original (and best) EH Shepard version.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The only one I wish had made it is the pursuit of flight. But the pure delight that the Winnie the Pooh set made it is just too much to feel any other emotion but shear joy!!! Like, that set will encompass a large portion of my childhood. I’m so stinking hyped!!!

I don't put too much stock in the community chatter. For every head whining about "no more space" there seems to be double the interest. Sales will be the driving force and it seems like the recent NASA sets have done well, specifically the Saturn V.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Both very good designs and nice sets. Not 100% sure they will be in my buy list, shall have to see what else is released around that time. Slightly disappointed that thunderbirds didn’t get in. That would have been epic!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I would LOVE to know why some projects are not selected. I know that information will never be released. And yes, we can all speculate on the reasons. But it sure would be interesting to know the thought processes and the reasoning behind why some of these projects are not selected.

Gravatar
By in Norway,

First the pirates, now the blacksmith? Really liking the diversity. And with new affiliate links means more love for huwbot!

Gravatar
By in Slovakia,

I am happy about the results. I wanted these two + Seven dwarf house.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm happy for the castle and the Pooh could be interesting...

...but I'm really sad that Pursuit of Flight didn't make it!!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Love the Blacksmith!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Happy with the results, although I'm surprised at both the ones that got through. I was really hoping for History of flight, and I like the Anatomini too, but I can live with these two :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Okay Ideas has given almost all the classic Lego themes their due:
Classic Space - Exo Suit
Pirates - Pirate Bay
Castle - Blacksmith

If Lego keeps up the pattern of Ideas paying tribute/continuation of old classic themes it gives me a bit more hope for Sokoda's Bionicle proposal. Might be time to try and get getting another Western set on Ideas like we tried back in the Cuusoo days.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wasn’t expecting either of those but I’m happy Winnie the Pooh is getting a set as I know my mother loves the character.

Blacksmith Shop isn’t of interest to me personally but I’m sure it’ll look cool!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Shame about the office, but I knew in my heart the proposed set was asking for way too much

Gravatar
By in Finland,

Just wondering if they'll use the old Duplo figures for the Pooh set, lol.

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

Winnie the Pooh surprised me considering the new molds they'd have to make. They might do what they did with Steamboat Willie and make a new Pooh mold, then include him in another Disney collectible minifigure series.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

The blacksmith is actually very nic, but isn't it strange that his house is bigger than the average castle?

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

I like the two,

Never liked any of the Space ideas sets, except for the Space shuttle. So for once they did not choose the Nasa set :(

Hoping for a creator expert set now from that shuttle

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm happy for the Castle fans and architecture fans who will love the Medieval Blacksmith. I'm happy for the people who will love the Winnie-the-Pooh set, and I might even get it myself. They're both nice, cheerful location builds that provide much-needed balance to the plethora of vehicles that Lego produces. I can't help but be disappointed that Thunderbirds wasn't selected, but I'm not terribly surprised. There's another really good Thunderbirds project still gathering supporters, though, so there's still hope! As an aside, I wonder what Lego plans to do for the minifigures in Sesame Street and Winnie-the-Pooh. It seems like cartoon characters generally get specialized head molds nowadays - see Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Homer Simpson, and the Trolls, for example - but those are against the rules for Ideas. Maybe those rules are changing? But then again, the Flintstones didn't get head molds and they were arguably better for it. Ho-hum, we'll see.

EDIT - After a closer look at the Pooh project, I think it'll get by just fine without new molds.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I'm a bit disappointed with Winnie the Pooh. It's yet another Disney set, but more importantly, it seems so generic and shares the look with the treehouse. It's one of those sets that could/would have become a set within the Disney line at some point in time anyways. Now it takes a rare spot in the IDEAS line. Plus I think the 7 Dwarfs House would have been the better of the two Disney licensed sets.

I feel the Thunderbirds and Pursuit of Flight sets would have pleased much more LEGO fans. I think the Space Shuttle Atlantis was probably too big, the Museum too much of a Creator Expert modular and The Office too plain and impossible to get the rights.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Kinda hoped that The Office would win, but happy to see Winnie the Pooh will have an actual set.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Well, well Castle fans- finally. What can I say? Only that I hope the blacksmith set is purchased by as many fans as possible? That it breaks sales records for an Ideas set? That LEGO does a double take and realizes we're still out here and that Castle reclaims its spot as an evergreen theme? All the above.

Congrats Castle fans. Build on.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

No Thunderbirds?

Hold on... We're in the bad place!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Time to build a Thunderbird 2 myself then.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Blacksmith , thought it was a bit too large at first , it is compared to normal Castle "sets"

But it isn't all that crazy huge if you consider the base making it look a lot larger in a picture.

Hope this means it can open a door toward more Castle sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hurray for Winnie the Pooh!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Nice choices. Terrible video. You’d think Lego would have the chops to do a live broadcast!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

For me it's a great year- 4 out of the 5 are a definitely purchase.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Office has had multiple reviews.... why dont they just add it to the do not allow list if they wont make it...

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Just moments ago when I re-read the article about the candidates I thought to myself "I would so hope to get the Medieval Blacksmith, but they will never choose that one".

I have rarely been so happy about having been proven wrong. :-)

I guess they'll put it on a standard 32x32 baseplate though.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I thought Winnie the Pooh would be selected. Such a neat little set. The Medieval Blacksmith is a fantastic surprise though! Think I backed that ages ago.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

@AustinPowers said:

Tree House had a custom base (square in the original) so I think we might get something similar, even if it's not using those round parts.

Gravatar
By in United States,

None of the sets from this review particularly interested me, but if I had to choose one it would've been the Blacksmith!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Alright picks, looking forward for the Winnie The Pooh figures

Gravatar

Both unexpected, and un-exciting.

Gravatar

Nice choices because they are neither Space/Nasa-related or from some niche TV series

Why does anyone remotely care about what sets you will ignore. To be upset about Lego is to be a small child.

Gravatar
By in Greece,

Woohoo! A castle set and an-almost-castle-forestmen-set!
And of course finally no more space sets!!!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

One very important question here is: will we have a new brown goat coming with the medieval blacksmith? I also do not expect the ground to be raised like this (too many parts - but it does make for a nicer setup).

I would have loved the UCS shuttle because I love "real" space items (well I also like "classic" space) but I understand that we already had the Saturn V and the ISS in the idea realm. As many others pointed out maybe they'll do a detailed shuttle in the creator line in the not too distant future (this should definitely become a theme just like modular - one real spacecraft per year).

To pursuit of flight is neat as everything JK Brickwork does but I personally believe that, of all the choices here, this is the easiest one to reproduce on your own with your own collection. As far as automatons goes I definitely prefer the Sisyphus one - the horse is also very nice.

For me, Winnie the Pooh need to have new moulds for figures but we'll see. Can anyone enlighten me onto why it is banned in China?

Do we have some sort of timeline as to when the previous 3 will be available? It seems like it was quite a while ago they were announced - I need that piano!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Disappointed that Thunderbirds didn’t make it, I like the look of the blacksmiths, bet hey ho can’t have everything.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I wanted Pursuit of flight, more money for star wars sets

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Winnie the Pooh doesn't surprise me at all... I would have expected, probably, the second one to be Thunderbirds, but didn't have any particular stake in it either way; I just know they used to be very popular. Regardless, the blacksmith looks like a really nice choice - plus a non-licensed one at that! - and I look forward to seeing the finalised set ^^

Though really, I'm still holding out hope for the BIONICLE project in the next round...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Finally! Something not space related! I would have liked Snow White over the Pooh set but at least they aren't space.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Winnie the Pooh (5947) was one of our daughter's first Duplo set, so it'll be interesting to compare these minifigs to their larger cousins.

Gravatar

Congrats to the creators! I’ve always loved Namirob‘s work.

Gravatar

@HOBBES said: "For me, Winnie the Pooh need to have new moulds for figures but we'll see. Can anyone enlighten me onto why it is banned in China?"

It was never banned in China, it is very popular there and in fact Winnie the Pooh have an attraction in Shanghai Disneyland:

https://www.shanghaidisneyresort.com/en/attractions/adventures-winnie-pooh/

What happened is that for a while social media started to censor comparisons of the Chinese leader Xi Jinping with Winnie the Pooh due to their supposed resemblance, but due to Chinese whispers (pardon the pun) it got picked up by Western media as China outright banning Winnie the Pooh, which never happened.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm absolutely delighted that the Winnie the Pooh set was selected!! :-D

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Happy about the Blacksmith now I just hope I can afford it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Pooh set will be hugely popular.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Great! So now I really want 4 out of the 5 Ideas projects that are in the works... just great (and expensive)! Honestly though I'm so glad we'll have a taste of Pirates and Castle again soon, with Sesame Street and Winnie the Pooh for good old childhood nostalgia thrown in to boot:)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The Blacksmith is simply beautiful, although up against the Pirate Bay and Sesame Street will be tough IMO!

Gravatar
By in Portugal,

The blacksmith is screaming for Cesar Soares to work on it, it's 100% his style!

Looking forward to see the final results, they both look very displayable!

Exciting!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Great selections! There were others I would have been happy with also, great offerings this review period. I saw Winnie The Pooh coming but I’m pleasantly surprised by the Medieval Blacksmith being chosen! That’s a beautiful set!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Winnie the Pooh is quite an interesting choice, however, if what people have said are correct, then that set might bring in some good profit from a certain country... Anyhow, really glad the Blacksmith passed. It was the most interesting one out of all. Could care less for the others maybe except the Pursuit of Flight, but I'm sure JKBrickworks has instructions available for it. Hopefully, these sets will still be nicely priced like the other ideas sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I was super thrilled and expecting Thunderbirds :(

Gravatar
By in Switzerland,

I'm also surprise, but I like the two selected models.

I really would have liked the Thunderbirds Are Go

And why not the The Seven Dwarfs' House?

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Oh boy, the blacksmith! Time to start saving.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I was hoping for Snow White, but the blacksmith and Pooh are good consolation.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Glad the Blacksmith made it!

Gravatar
By in United States,

The new Thunderbirds is only available in the US on Amazon Prime. It’s never been available on cable or satellite in the US which may be part of why it wasn’t a go. And the original series from the ‘60s is probably to old to generate much of a fan base in the US (that buy Lego)

People are never happy with the results of IDEAS reviews, it seems. First they're complaining about the ISS and how there's "too many space sets coming out of IDEAS so why don't they just make a new space theme", and now they're complaining about how a set that is most decidedly NOT SPACE getting picked. Anyone else getting tired of the complaining?

Surprised, but ‘hell yeah!’ for the Medieval Blacksmith.

Even more surprised about Winnie the Pooh, but that ranks down with ‘Adventure Time’ as a low point for Lego Ideas (for me anyway)

I feel more than a little bit targeted by this post - but i'll do my nights anyway!

First of all, I am very happy with all the space sets available on Ideas and Creator; I buy them, I build them and I thoroughly enjoy them. If it were for me, the shuttle would be made right now and then next year we would get the Gemini capsule that just reached 10000 votes - I'm also up for all the ones that have been dismissed over the last two years. That does not mean I would not also select other neat creations in other themes. Lego is lately selecting more than one idea which is great for everyone!

There are a few simple reasons(facts) why I suggest there should be a "real" space theme: (1) lots of people are submitting them - hence they like/want them, (2) lots of people are voting for them - we got a fully voted space theme item at pretty much every round, (3) people are buying them, (4) people are enjoying them because they present very neat building techniques - the ISS not so much. The problem is they are channelled through a platform that should present more diversity (there have not been too much space in Ideas (Hayabusa(Cuusoo)-does that count?, Curiosity Rover, Saturn V, Women of Nasa and ISS out of 34 sets), it is just that we got three near from one another; but more importantly it is a platform that allow people like you and me to have a say in its development. By creating a theme with a model every year (like modulars) then you free up the Idea platform for a more diversified offering while keeping space buffs happy: win-win.

Bring on the space anytime but also the castle (very happy with Medieval Blacksmith), pirates(very happy with Pirate's Bay) and if one day we are very very very lucky: classic space-ish and monorails.

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

It's surprising that a Winnie the Pooh project was chosen (a couple of nice words to China, if you can't take criticism of your politicians then you aren't ready to come into the 21st century) which I will be gifting my mother and that Blacksmith sure is a nice win for Castle fans.

Gravatar
By in France,

Hurray, my favorite (the blacksmith) has won!!! I couldn't be happier :-)

Gravatar
By in Norway,

Very happy Blacksmith made it, it was my favorite. Let's hope Lego doesn't change it too much in the production version.

Quite surprised Winnie the Pooh was approved, might consider it if it turns out nice and not too expensive (yeah right, I skipped Steamboat Willie mostly 'cause of its price), as said I try to avoid Disney licenses. Also shows that we need to take the self-appointed "experts" here with a grain of salt, it was pretty much the same "experts" who said Lego would never make a two-part modular again.

A little disappointed Pursuit of Flight didn't make it, it was such a nice, moderately-sized model. Someone mentioned the "war" issue, but IMO 10024 Red Baron and 7198 Indy plane attack are just as "war-themed" as this one.

Winnie the Pooh's figures definitely need improvement. Tigger is really badly designed and Eeyore is not so good either.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'd rather see the Winnie the Pooh minifigs in a CMF series so a more buildable set could be in Ideas. People are only going to be buying the overpriced Ideas Pooh bear set for the figs anyway. (Yes, I get this is more profit for Lego but worse for customers.)

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Im very happy the blacksmith was chosen! Winnie the Pooh is good too. While I really like the blacksmith, for the sake of price and fitting in my medieval display Id like it to be scaled down a tad.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm really happy the Medieval Blacksmith was picked. Was hoping for the Museum, Haunted Mansion and/or the Snow White Cottage with the Seven Dwarfs to maybe get chosen also. I hold out hope that a version of the Museum will eventually be made in the Creator Expert line. Likewise I would expect that eventually a version of the Haunted Mansion will join the Disney Castle & Train Station. And lastly perhaps a Snow White Cottage will be added to the Disney Princess line. All the other contestants were pretty awesome too. It would be nice if more could have been chosen. Not a fan Of Winnie the Pooh although the model was nicely done.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

The Blacksmith is welcome. We don’t get any Castle sets nowadays (Nexo Knights doesn’t count). Winnie the Pooh sounds nice as well, I might try and get it for my mum.

Just a shame that Thunderbirds didn’t get past. That show had a big impact on my childhood.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Very pleased that the Medieval Blacksmith got through. Hopefully the lack of a Thunderbirds are Go set will leave a space for a potentially much superior classic Thunderbirds set, which would probably appeal to the same generation that bought the Yellow Submarine!

Gravatar
By in Greece,

Love the blacksmith but the wiener set is definitely a pass for me. Imo lego is trying to look for sales through nostalgia.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I like the Blacksmith and I'll probably buy it. It'll probably be redesigned from the ground up as most recent Ideas sets have been, so I don't expect it to look as it does now.

Hopefully, the Blacksmith keeps its details and doesn’t end up like the Treehouse, a shell of its former self.

Same here. I loved Winnie the Pooh as a child so I'm excited to build that and I really am happy we are getting a Castle and Pirate Idea sets coming up. Feels nice to see some older themes getting some much needed love from the community.

Gravatar

I seriously doubt we are going to see the goat in the blacksmith shop. LEGO isn't likely to bring back a part last used in a 2011 set just for an Ideas project (nice though it would be)

Gravatar

Love the Blacksmith and Winnie the Pooh is fine as yet another licensed product.

I was really hoping for Pursuit of Flight as I think we need more small sets.

Gravatar
By in France,

Not surprised at Pooh winning what with Legos strong tie ups with Disney. Not for me but it will be popular.

Blacksmith looks interesting but it looks big. Will they downsize it?

Overall I think Ideas is in a good place. Some great proposals going through. Personally would have loved thunderbirds

Don't know if this had an impact on it, but I saw a build-able office set made by another toy company at target the other day. Maybe it was a license issue.

If I can figure out a way to make some tweaks to turn that medieval blacksmith into the prancing pony, it might be worth buying.

I would’ve preferred the haunted mansion as a Disney fan but I’ve learned with ideas not to hold my breath for it to come true. Going to get gutted next time when the planet express ship is rejected again for being “too adult”

This has been a meme most of the last decade. It’s the top search on google still when typing out ‘Winnie the pooh’. But I think it’s impact has been slightly exaggerated.
My understanding is that censors blocked HBOs website in China After a critical segment that included the meme on John Oliver’s show. It was reported that the meme caused the block rather than the rest of the episode’s substance being to blame). Also, the Christopher Robbin film didn’t get a Chinese release likely due to china’s annual cap on foreign films (they are capped to 30 something films per year.). Again, this was reported as being related to the meme but I haven’t seen anything verifying it. Just media fluff.

Great news about the projects, I will buy both.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Supported 8 of the 11 they chose from, pleased with their choices. Not a fan of the repeated releases of NASA technology and the like, I'm more of a sci-fi space fan. "Suum cuique"

Gravatar
By in United States,

Very sad that Anatomini didn't make it. It was absolutely worthy.

Pooh is yes, yet another either-space-or-licensed set, but the source material has such timeless charm & innocence I think it's a good thing for them to make, so long as they do better than Flintstones with visual impact, authenticity, and core character inclusion.

Medieval blacksmith is a shocker! It's the other one I was rooting for as a non-licensed longshot and I can't believe it was accepted. I'm sure it'll be rendered with reverence by the LEGO designer and make a lot of fans happy globally.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Quite surprised Anatomini didn't make it. Most of the projects that were reconsidered in a next round got produced in the end.

Very excited about the blacksmith though. Great to see a proper Castle set again!

Gravatar

The flight one seemed like a no-brainer to me, but the rest of the results are about as I expected. Black Smith is nice, and Lego already has Pooh license.

Why should that matter? These sets are sold around the world, and there is a decent following in the UK (at least, maybe elsewhere too).

Ultimately, all of these proposals have a fairly substantial potential audience, seeing as 10,000+ people have said they are interested. Although whether that translates into sales depends on the final cost.

The Thunderbirds set was the only one I would have been guaranteed to buy regardless of how much it cost (although it doesn't look that big or expensive in the designs).

The History Museum I would have been quite interested in, although that would end up being the largest and most expensive Ideas set they've put out.

Sadly, I doubt I'll be buying either of the sets they are taking forward unless there are some significant changes to them before production.

What happened is that for a while social media started to censor comparisons of the Chinese leader Xi Jinping with Winnie the Pooh due to their supposed resemblance, but due to Chinese whispers (pardon the pun) it got picked up by Western media as China outright banning Winnie the Pooh, which never happened."

The Chinese version of Kingdom Hearts replaced Pooh with a glowing orb.

By in Singapore,

On the whole Pooh banned in China matter, it is not really the case. The Shanghai Disneyland character mascot and rides still exist. It is just that social media posts about the character are heavily monitored. Also, the character was replaced by an orb in the Chinese version of Kingdom Hearts 3. No outright attempts have been made to “ban” the character though.

Cool, man.

By in United States,

Can't wait to see what becomes of both; in my personal opinion. The new molds for the Pooh figures (which, likely, will be in a CMF line later) and how they do the figures interest me.

If LEGO's gonna do licenses, I'm going with THunderbirds. I haven't watched an episode of it, but am familiar with the series through the early '80s line Matchbox did. LEGO's not done that before, but Pooh's been in Duplo from 1999-2011. And personally, I find the line a better fit in a Juniors/4+/Duplo theme than with Ideas.

@Thunbear:
After they opened the program up to the world, so many of the early projects that hit 10k required license deals that they supposedly imposed some sort of restriction on what they can approve. They can still approve licensed projects, but a certain percentage have to be original projects.

@TransNeonOrangeSpaceman:
Why would they need to? The five characters depicted in the project submission can all be made with existing molds.

@Ladondorf:
_That_ did _not_ happen. Once both versions had been unveiled to the public, they were very clear about the fact that they didn't actually make a single new mold for the Steamboat Willie set. They just lucked out that the CMF team had the same idea, and they could mooch off the two new hat molds. The drawback to this, however, was that the CMF team is very protective of their minifig designs, so the Ideas team had to figure out a way to make their minifigs distinct. I think they said they chose to go with silver because (aside from keeping it greyscale) the characters debuted on the "silver screen".

@karrit:
If they make the cottage under Disney Princess, it will be a lot more clunky and basic than this submission.

The Lamborghini Sian sort of looks a bit like T2 if you squint.... just as long as it's green!

WTP is a great idea for a set- I guess China was OK with it. It has perfect cross-demographic KFOL-AFOL appeal- much better than Sesame Street, IMO.

I am excited for Medieval Blacksmith. Medieval Market Village already has a blacksmith's shop, but it was eleven years ago. I hope it can be displayed alongside the Pirate Fort and the Treehouse as part of a contiguous display of old-ish buildings.

The other ideas were pretty underwhelming. The Office was incredibly unaesthetic despite being a good concept for an IP, the space shuttle is really average, the target demographic for Thunderbirds is developing Alzheimer's, Anatomini is a hard shelfwarmer that doubles as nightmare fuel, and the Red Baron would appeal to the wrong kind of people. Seven Dwarves is certainly workable and I can envision myself pressing the "add to cart" button, but WTP is a much stronger Disney IP.

Happy about the Blacksmith, but kinda surprised that Pursuit of Flight did not make it.

I am very happy with these results, 2 out of 3 I liked. Surprised the space sets didn't get through... Too bad for the dwarves, since I could have used that army booster, but very happy with these

Medieval castle was definitely the best and the only one I would buy at all.

By in Sweden,

For the History Museum fans, the creator said on the Ideas page that he'll be resubmitting it with some changes. So LEGO might be interested in those types of projects, but with some restrictions. Maybe he'll lower the piece count, or the minifig count (there were a ton of them through statues), or change the design itself to be more in line with existing modulars.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

I thought they didn't own the rights to their models for a few years after submission? Or is it just the winners with their original designs? It might not be legal for him to share the instructions like this, so shortly after the results.

Oi, less of that. Yes, the original broadcast date of the original series is a very long time ago.

But (in the UK at least), the series was widely repeated well into the 80s (which is how I picked it up as a kid), and whilst the set is appealing to fans of the original, the branding ties in with the modern reboot which is popular / backed enough to have made 3 seasons (so far).

By in Italy,

I had two mutually exclusive wishes:
1) that Shuttle, can't have enough Real Space (TM) sets.
2) save money.
But no, they had to choose that blacksmith shop... none of my desires are becoming a reality!

By in United Kingdom,

So happy to see the Blacksmith's, that was one of my top two from this grouping. Just disappointed we're not gonna get a Thunderbird 2 set.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Aww, I was hoping the Thunderbirds set would win. I'd love to see LEGO's improved version of that!

Gravatar
By in Finland,

I am so nostalgic for Winnie The Pooh so I'm extremely hyped for this, interested to see what they'll do for the figures. The main reason I thought they wouldn't do this (apart from china) was because I thought Lego would consider Pooh a license only babies enjoy and only deserves Duplo sets.

The Blacksmith is also a great build, interested to see what they do with that too.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Excited about both of these! Two lovely detailed fantasy houses at once - wow! I am surprised - seems they don't usually accept detailed buildings like this (other than the Fishing Store).

According to Terms of Service, LEGO grants the submitter a limited, revocable license to make use of their Product Idea for certain non-commercial purposes, including "Posting pictures or other information about a submitted Product Idea or Contest Entry on the submitter’s own website or social media pages." The next paragraph states "You may not sell any items, physical or digital, related to either the Product Ideas or Contest Entries submitted to the platform." So I believe it's okay for him to share instructions on his website, as long as he isn't making money off it.

I've no interest in either one of these sets but would've bought Thunderbird 2 in a heartbeat much like I bought that 1989 Batmobile from the day of its release.

By in Latvia,

Great projects, I'm happy it's not space, but I would prefer other projects to be selected

Gravatar
By in Germany,

LEGO is preferring licensing over creativity. I had my money on the animated planes.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I am very glad about the selection. I hoped for at least one building and now we get two, with the blacksmith being an AFOL dream. Fingers crossed they keep the end product as close to the original as possible and don't miniaturize it. Not a big Winnie the Pooh fan personally, but its a nice little building nonetheless and should appeal to the current younger audience.

Anatomini was cool. But I can see why Lego didn’t do it

I think it is a great shame the Anatomini was not approved. It is such a unique and educational idea

@Havok211:
There's not a blanket ban on everything Disney. The parks are off-limits, but there are a lot of other things under the Disney name that aren't. Specific characters are prohibited, but Winnie the Pooh is not listed among them. For that matter, neither are Snow White & the Seven Dwarves, nor is the Disney Princess theme as a whole (just the characters in current production).

@hackenbacker:
What the what? Someone from the UK saying "seasons" instead of "series"? Tiny victories, people. Tiny victories.

@The_Toniboeh:
Shhh! They've never specifically stated that Ideas is not allowed to produce Duplo sets!

@lentil:
Old Fishing Store is one of the primary reasons why a lot of those other detailed buildings got rejected. The same person who submitted that project got at least three more to 10k, but all three were basically more waterfront buildings of a similar design, and Ideas isn't allowed to run themes.
