Monkie Kid announcement due today
Posted by Huw,Last week, Simon Lucas, a creative director at LEGO, tweeted this teaser image for the forthcoming Monkie Kid theme, in which the Chinese text reads 'May 15, Meet the Hero'.
I think we can therefore expect an announcement later today. So, keep checking back here and hopefully we'll find out what it's all about!

"Check-check-ch-check it out
What-wha-what's it all about?"
Get the popcorn
Gee, can't wait to see all the product images, which we'll definitely only see here and couldn't have seen at any other time. That sure would've been embarrassing.
Is Monkie Kid a licensed property or similar?
Or is it a LEGO idea, such as Ninjago or Nexo Knights etc.?

It seems to be loosely inspired by the classic Chinese story "Journey To The West". So I guess its not totally original (although Im betting it wont bare much resemblance to the original), but the story is hundreds of years old so its not exactly licensed either
Finally! We’ve been waiting for these for like so long. I mean, nobody has ever seen any sets since the initial rumour, right? ;)
Never heard of this Monkie Kid or seen leaked images weeks ago, or anything like that!
Is...is that what you want me to say Lego? Please help! They have my family an...
I can't wait to find out what it looks like. I do not know this "Monkey kid" that they spoke off. I only know its an inspiration of Dragonball or something like that. ;)
I was marginally impressed by the images I've seen. It's not my cup of tea but I hope this who do buy it like it.
Will it replace Ninjago theme? Trying to focus on the Ninjago products launched in the last year and half, it seemed to me that there is a lack of creativity in there, certainly because of their almost 10 years of hard work :)
On the other hand, in my opinion, I think that LEGO is moving to the kids of the new generation, while the old (that played so far with Ninjago and other old themes) will continue playing with more complicated (and expensive) sets. This will also explain the quantity of Easter eggs on the Pirate Bay and Haunted House :)
Never heard of it. At this point not interested. Asked my kids, they don't know it either. Perhaps more interesting for the Asian markets.
*shrug*
Moving on...
Rumour has it this theme will only be available in the asian markets - at least at first.
TLG has steered away from regional exclusivity as we have seen with the recent CNY sets so I hope not @CaptainMutant
A fair bit of reaction so far to the unnouncement.
Heads-up: Simon's revealed on Twitter that the announcement will be 13:30 Danish time (so 12:30 in the UK) and live-streamed on a Chinese site. Here are the full deets:

Having seen the pics of the sets elsewhere already, all I can say is that it does look like some kinda mash-up between ninjago and nexo knights, but loosely following the 'Monkey King' mythos... Which makes me wonder, just who is the target market for it in a market where we already have the 'sci-fi ninja with mystic elements' theme of Ninjago?

They dropped the ball, really no need for such build up anymore...but guess some paychecks have to be earned, even if they are talking in front of an empty auditorium
Looking at the leaked images of the sets there is nothing to get excited about imo. Only the largest set really took my fancy.
To me the leaks look like this is a Ninjago-ish theme which isn't my favourite theme as it goes.
I wonder if it’s the same Monkey as per the 80’s TV series I used to watch:

Showing my age somewhat!
Watching the livestream at the moment and it's becoming clear why the legal teams went full ham on the set pics a few weeks back - it looks like they spent a *lot* on this reveal so I can see why the pics readily floating around would've undermined the whole thing.
They haven't shown the sets proper yet, but they *have* given some more info on the story and there's some really, really nice stylised 2D animation involved so I'm 100% in!
Never heard of it, but the colors in the images seem very interesting.

They won't replace Ninjago at this point. It's selling far too well.
I’ve just come up with a new tag for Lego’s obsession with modern sets: Tech Mech.
A shame we can’t have sets purely based on legends, history and fantasy anymore (Elves was probably the latest and closest) without throwing bikes and robots in the mix.
