Next LEGO House exclusive set revealed

The Wooden Duck

©2020 LEGO Group

A while ago LEGO advised us that 4000026 LEGO House Tree of Creativity was being retired to make way for a new LEGO House exclusive set, to be launched at the end of May.

The company has now revealed it to be 40501 The Wooden Duck by publishing its instructions at Customer Services. The set is a homage to the original wooden version produced in the 1930s.

I don't expect it to be sold online, like the others have been, given the House is due to open again shortly. Having said that, it will remain virtually impossible for anyone who's not local to actually visit it for the foreseeable future, so we might get lucky...

Also revealed at the same place is 40411 Creative Fun 12-in-1 which looks like it might have something to do with the Rebuild The World advertising campaign.

By in Sweden,

That looks to be a perfectly executed set in every aspect, snot heaven.

By in United States,

Studless, completely studless. Very nice.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Going to be a real tragedy if they can't keep the dark red or yellow consistent from one piece to the next...

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Beautiful, but I can’t get to Denmark for some reason. I wonder why... ;)

No tourists except people from Germany, Iceland and Norway can get into Denmark before the end of summer. (They are considering opening the borders for people from Sweden and Finland before end of summer as well though). I know your flight time/cost makes things even more difficult, but for 99% of the world population Denmark might as well be on the moon :)

By in United Kingdom,

This is beautiful. I had to rub my eyes though, I thought they had finally been able to incorporate a brick separator into a set.

Gravatar
By in Finland,

It's a shame they always put top effort in these sets no one can get

Gravatar
By in Poland,

I really hope it will be available online. I don't care about sets strictly related to the Lego House (like the House model, tree or dinosaurs) but this one is a different sort.

Gravatar
By in United States,

They sure like this duck.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Much nicer than the tree - a good choice for a memento for your visit.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

That looks like a fantastic set. Hopefully it'll still be around when I go on the Inside Tour next year…!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

They love that duck don't they. It does look (almost not made of lego at first glance) but I'll pass. And I have to say grrrrrrrrr for the 12in1. You know some of us are now going to have to buy 12 (probably less) so we can make all 12 at once... why Lego..... its mean.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I guess if international demand is high enough and to cut off scalpers they might consider doing a limited LEGO.com release

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

One for sale on e-bay

Will it quack and the head pivot to make the beak open and close, as this is what the original by Kirk Kristiansen was able to do? https://www.instructables.com/community/Help-make-a-quacking-noise-in-a-wooden-toy-duck-me/
I've looked at the instructions from the link above and difficult to know, there seems to be a vertical white 13 beam connecting the top half of the head with the base, although this may just be for support as there is no obvious cam mechanism?

By in Netherlands,

Billund, here we come again! Great build!

I've looked at the instructions from the link above and sadly no, even though a nodding head would have being possible using Technic elements. "

According to the instructions, yes, the beak can open and close. There are cam shafts in the axles of the wheels and Technic components inside the duck to make the head and beak pivot.

By in Australia,

I still prefer Jason’s one

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow.... Would I love to add this to my collection, very well done.

Gravatar
By in Estonia,

A brick separator would have been perfect for the lower mandible...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Wow! I had to look twice at the image to make sure it wasn't wooden like the recent collector's minifigure. That's amazing - as others have pointed out - not a stud in sight! Would definitely want to add this one to my collection...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Wow, I really, really want to add this to my collection. Great model, and I love that it has a technic mechanism tucked away inside.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I really thought those were brick separators being used in the beak there

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Missed opportunity to use a brick separator in the beak

Oh a dozen other people have already said that

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

Congratulations to JKBrickworks on getting your third Ideas set approved! Oh wait...

Clearly they make so much money they can employ an abundance of designers.

Gravatar
By in Romania,

I don't give a duck. I am happy for those who give.

90 years since 1930, so waiting for 2070, the year of Castle re-release.

Gravatar

It looks like real wood....

Gravatar
By in Venezuela,

Hi I think the instructions were removed

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

Is it just me, or do I remember a similar gift-with-purchase given out at Hong Kong LEGO stores two years ago (to celebrate LEGO’s 80th anniversary). I think that version was made by HK’s Certified LEGO Professional. I didn’t get the promotion neither to I have any proof, but I definitely remember it being a thing.

The LINK is there, but when I click I get this message

Cheers, thanks! There does seem to be something a bit off about this one, especially when you compare it to the original wooden toy. I'm sure most people won't care, though.

Gravatar
By in Switzerland,

It seems that LEGO has remove it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hopefully they will reupload the instructions. Keep getting an error. Seems I’m not the only one.

This is a definite must have. Hopefully the pieces will be readily available since so many of us won’t make it to the House.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Odd that they go with Limited Edition No.1 for this set when there have already been several Lego House sets which seem to have been of limited availability.

The instructions are still listed on that page but there is no PDF any more. Instead, the file location on Lego's server (as also listed on the set page here at Brickset - https://www.lego.com/biassets/bi/6324978.pdf ) returns an XML document stating Access Denied.

(An alternative URL returns "NoSuchKey". https://www.lego.com/cdn/product-assets/product.bi.core.pdf/6324978.pdf )"

I can still see it at both links, so must be a regional thing.

@JPKuiper:
They're going to allow people from Sweden in?!?!?!? Didn't they just have a massive outbreak that put them 1st in per capita deaths?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Could someone kindly download the instructions and re-post for us folks in the US to download? Thanks in advance!

Gravatar

Please repost the instructions

Gravatar
By in Russian Federation,

So duckely cutey...

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Could not get to either links from Canada. I switched my vpn to UK and got it right away.

This set makes it even harder to understand Lego. There were so many exceptional refused sets from the idea platform; there are so many past Lego sets they could redo better with new parts/techniques and they picked this???? Totally flabbergasted, flummoxed and startled!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Upon inspecting the instructions, I believe this set contains parts in almost every single solid colours that Lego produces. (not quite, but still, 24 different colours!)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It must be geo-blocking then, because I can still access it. Use Hola or TunnelBear or some other VPN to pretend you're in the UK.

I can confirm that. I'm in the U.S. - where it fails. Connecting to VPN in the UK allowed me to bypass this and download the PDF.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The US Customer Service Instructions page doesn't list this set at all. Why in the world would they geoblock instruction manuals??

"Why in the world would they geoblock instruction manuals??"

If you look at the 'Instructions' section of most sets here on Brickset, they link to two versions of the instructions, V29 &V39, which correspond to Rest of World & North America; clearly the two versions exist for a reason, probably to do with safety warnings, trademarking, or some other small print.

The duck is not ever meant to be sold in North America, so compliant instructions don't exist for that set in that region, hence the block.

And that theory is yours for a mere 2¢.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@bananaworld:
They've never geo-locked the instructions before. When I look up instructions for a set, I can download both versions, so it's "safe" to let me see non-North American instructions on everything else. Presumably we all got the relevant warnings in any other set of instructions we've obtained in a set, and they're not selling this to us as a set. They're just posting digital instructions, which have a much lower bar for consumer safety regulations. You're not likely to choke to death on a digital file.

That was my first thought as well. Looks like a Summer version of the set. Could possibly be available as a GWP later this Summer.

Sorry; couldn't resist.
Yes, you're right that's it's an unusual move in this case. And it's true also that I very likely don't know what I'm talking about. Lego'll probably rectify their site soon, or, if it hasn't already, an alternative host will appear.
