£75 for Grievous's Starfighter? For 487 pieces? They're taking the piss, right?

Edit to add: 501st battlepack, £25 for 285 pieces; AAT, £35 for 286 pieces. We're literally paying £10 more to get Ahsoka and two fewer minifigs? What a joke.

By in United Kingdom,

LEGO have got their head right up them to think that £75 for the General Grievous’s Starfighter is a reasonable price, omg. I'd rather spend the extra £15 for the much cooler and better valued Death Star Final Duel, now that set is a good set and is fairly good value.

The 501st Battle Pack is a deffo buy, the Advent looks fantastic, the At-At is cool but nothing I need, the Razor Crest is amazing, the Resistance I-TS Transport is alright I guess, the Knights of Ren Transport Ship looks pretty nice, Anakin’s Jedi Interceptor is just another Jedi interceptor nothing exciting but nothing terrible and the AAT feels a little overpriced for £34.99 but not that bad. Oh and the Brickheadz are adorable and day one buys.

Overall a decent wave but charging £75 for the Starfighter is beyond ridicules and the build is so lame to me.

That's the first thing I noticed. These licensed prices are getting out of hand.

By in United States,

Minifig selection for the advent calendar is interesting. A welcome return to the unique minifigs but lacking in number

By in Hungary,

Among these which are the store exlusives? The throne room and a blue resistance transport?

80 for the Grievous ship is a joke

By in United Kingdom,

The Knights of Ren Transport looks very sharp.

I’m getting the same design vibe as the Imperial speeder included in the Solo battlepack, specifically the sharply angled plates forming the fuselage.

Overall a nice industrial and menacing feel to the craft.

By in United States,

Weird that they didn’t list the mandalorian and child brick head. Thought that was a 9/1 release.

Gravatar
By in United States,

A bit stingy with the minifigures on the knights of ren, but otherwise looks to be a great wave.

By in Hungary,

Would've liked if the AAT was 30... wait for sales it is.

By in United Kingdom,

Ah I need to make a separate comment on the pretty epic Advent Calendar, like wow its amazing.

I LOVE THE CHRISTMAS JUMPERS, Darth Vader's Death Star Jumper and Poe's BB8 Jumper are just epic.

Luke, Rey, Trooper and D-O are amazing inclusions who are for the most part in more expensive sets, and another Porg is welcome. The builds are decent, love the Razor Crest build so much, the Snowspeeder and A-wing are much better than any previous microscale ones we've seen previously. But the Snowman leaves a lot to be desired unfortunately and the Millennium Falcon isn't the best version we've seen.

By in Switzerland,

I guess this was made out of Disney demand rather than customer demand. -This license crowds out the bargain bins and outlet stores.

Disney's got the money and Lego's got the factories.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

With regard to the price of 75286-1 General Grievous' Starfighter, I agree that it is much too expensive. However, I was informed that General Grievous figures are exceptionally costly to produce, hence that is reflected in the sets where he appears.

I am not defending the price, I am simply forwarding the justification I received directly from LEGO when 75199-1 General Grievous' Combat Speeder was released.

Gravatar
By in United States,

A little known fact. I’ve actually flew in that Resistance I-TS Transport before. Our pilot was Nien Nunb. He should have been in that set. What’s up with that

Gravatar
By in Australia,

These prices are ridiculous! Most of these prices are right now out of the budgets that most parents and AFOLs are willing to spend, don’t get me wrong I want most of these sets but there is no way I’m spending $45 AUD For the cheapest set that has at Best a tiny amount of parts and only 3 unique mInifigs

Gravatar
By in United States,

Vi Moradi??? Is this the first Galaxy's Edhe based set? Wow! That's going with my Disney Castle and train. Love the new Ahsoka too. The Throne Room is a bit of a rehash but since I never got the last one it has me interested. Probably one of my favorite Star Wars release waves in years!

Gravatar
By in Portugal,

The prices for this wave are simply outrageous.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Am I the only one who is upset about the Obi-Wan and Anakin minifigures? they reused them from the Mustafar Duel set released in January. If you look at the torsos of each you can see the burn marks.

Gravatar
By in United States,

What’s with Grievous being in absurdly expensive sets? First that weird speeder thing with Mace Windu and now this. At least the vehicle is actually relevant this time.

But I’d say this is a great wave of sets! Got a good mix of the new and old. I like the final duel set in particular, and I’m really happy to see a version of Ahsoka back on the shelves after being absent for so long. The lack of Captain Rex is a bit strange but I’m sure he’ll reappear eventually! The advent calendar is nice as well, including new Christmas variations for multiple figures is a definite plus!

Also, I’m glad to see something Galaxy’s Edge relented. I enjoy seeing sets and figures based off Star Wars stuff that may not be as popular to the average moviegoer. Also glad to see the battle pack but it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth remembering people spamming LEGO’s social media for it. I get asking for something you want, but it got irritating because it tended to get in the way of discussion over something other than that particular set. Interesting to also see they call it a battle pack when they have two vehicles and a larger scale in general as well.

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

Ahsoka definitely needed a new headpiece, her forehead's gigantic.

Gravatar
By in Hong Kong,

Why did they not make an ep9 final duel?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I'm very appreciative of AUD prices, as an Australian it's very nice to not have to go elsewhere to check the Australian price and I hope this paves to way to AUD prices aross the entire site.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

The comeback of the Final Duel is a surprise, but a great one, indeed. I really want that air bourne trooper minifig.. will buy that separately, i guess. The Star Fighter is not really any better than the last one, like nothing at all.
Knights on Ren ship looks sweet, wait for sales, tho. And the AT-AT is pretty nice, too if you don't have one already.
Oh, and the calendar is a must this year!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

It's great to see Vader get some arm-printing, but I agree that this is an expensive wave which is a shame. I don't mind the re-releases, as it has been 6ish years since the last Anakin's Interceptor was released. For the Australian price though, Grevious's Starfighter and The Knights of Ren Ship feel like they're missing something.

The Ahsoka figure looks great, and worth getting an extra of to change the face on the OG Clone Wars fig. And the Razor Crest and 501st Legion are no-brainers for me, and will be first day buys.

Gravatar
By in Portugal,

The Armored Assault Tank (AAT) costs 45 euros here in portugal, 30 euros would be ideal, what a robbery, and don't even get me started on the griveous ship, it costs 90 EUROS IN MY COUNTRY'S LEGO SHOP I LEGIT HAD TO LOOK AT THE PRICE TWICE

But the tank bothers me the most, it's such a greedy move, just because they know that people will go for the Ahsoka and clone minifigs...

Gravatar
By in United States,

A lot of these look really great, but the prices on almost all of them are absurd. There is no reason why Grievous’s Starfighter should be more $50-$60.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Stop with the Jedi interceptor just stop please. Nice we are getting some new ships though...

Gravatar

Almost every set here is a rehash of an old set.

Edit to add: 501st battlepack, £25 for 285 pieces; AAT, £35 for 286 pieces. We're literally paying £10 more to get Ahsoka and two fewer minifigs? What a joke."

Lego started operating as those faux premium brands, going for high rrp just to drop price later and make impression customers are getting great value by purchasing at deep discount.

Gravatar
By in United States,

almost all of these are remakes of older sets that are way more expensive but don't add enough to justify it, and most of them have way too few minifigures on top of that. the new ships are good, the design of everything is fine except the AAT (those seem to have peaked in 2009), but I would need a big sale to buy any of these

I'm not buying that General Grievous costs as much to produce as the electronic Mario figure... the first two sets he appeared in like that were not exorbitantly expensive, in fact the last one of those starfighters was almost identical including the figure, and cost $30 less!

it's getting easier and easier to pass on the new/more recent non-UCS SW sets. Rehashes of old models, most of which can be built with my existing parts collection

Gravatar
By in Austria,

The Knights of Ren Transport Ship is the only one I'll be picking for sure in this batch.

Everything else is just either overpriced AF (AT-AT, Razor Crest, Grievous’s Starfighter) or plain awful (501st Fighter pack, Resistance I-TS Transport).
Then there's the endless remakes. The Throne Room is a nice set but pretty much a re-release. Same goes for Anakin's ship.

I might consider the AAT if I get it with a promotion.

If this is the way the Star Wars line is going, maybe LEGO should consider taking a break from it.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The current writing style and content of the LTG press releases make my teeth itch!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Lots of remakes, but also some great sets. Lego went heavy with the Clone Wars era sets this wave. August is going to be an expensive month for me.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The AT-AT walker, death star duel and Razor quest are the best of the bunch...

Are we getting a UCS imperial shuttle or sith infiltrator anytime soon?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

That advent calendar.... is that blue/grey/yellow thing supposed to be Anakin's podracer? That is hands down the worst representation I have ever seen of it, and that includes the Podracing bucket. Hot damn, man, designer should have taken the L and put a different model in.

Knights of Ren and Resistance transports come across as rather boring, the latter has very little going on to the point where the features on the back of the box include two angles of that lifeless cargo space. They could and should have done a lot more with both these models, but I appreciate that the source material is poor at best anyway.

Grievous' Belbullab-22 is nice but inferior to the previous one (Grievous himself might be expensive to produce but nowhere near needing to slap a 75 pop pricetag on this thing), and Anakin's starfighter is just that, but I am very happy to see a new AAT (not sure I prefer them in TF or CIS livery). Again though, for that price I'll stick to my massively oversized 8018.

Gravatar
By in Brazil,

That's the second consecutive Grievous' set to be overpriced. What does this mean? Does the Grievous figure got expensive to be made? Thankfully I managed to get the 2014 Wheel Bike before Lego started this awful trend with his figure.

Also, another AAT/Anakin's Jedi Interceptor combo. Thinking of not missing the AAT this time.

501st Legion, Transport Ship and AT-AT are the highlights. I'll try to get at least two.

Yes, but the 75040 wheel bike was only £20 and contained the same Greivous.

The I-TS Transport is atrocious and only has 2 actual minifigures and it is a £90 set. That's just unacceptable.

Only ones that I might get are the AAT and the 501st Legion Troopers.

This wave is the worst in the range of quality and pricing of Star Wars ever. LEGO, you should be ashamed of yourself.

Edit: is that a chrome piece I see as an antenna on the AAT?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love the sets in this wave, sadly almost all of them are overpriced, or comically inaccurate like the "cannon" of the 501st battle pack

Gravatar
By in Australia,

How on earth is $45 for a jedi interceptor justified when there's also a set with 2 vehicles and 4 more minifigures for the same price?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

And here I thought that this Anakin's Starfighter was a 1:1 rehash of the previous one. Nope, look at the interior, its actually worse. 7 years Lego, you had 7 years since this basic model was released, and somehow you went backwards...

Grievous's Starfighter is a sidegrade from the 2010 model, if we're being generous. Does some parts better and other parts worse. Price is a sick joke, clearly the idea is that it'll get discounted down to a more reasonable price, to ensure it'll never be cheap. Though of course Lego themselves will never offer said discount...

Oh but the joke gets funnier, because the AAT is worse than the 2008 one!

Sigh, at least the advent calendar seems to be back on the right track with fun exclusive minifigs. I like the idea of porgs being a mainstay in them too. Seems like a good way to make them possible to amass without them showing up everywhere.

Gravatar

Didn't Lego literally just make a version of 75291 Death Star Final Duel about 2 years ago....! Running out of ideas I think

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Once again a BS excuse for a totally overpriced set. A minifig that is very expensive to produce? Why, what's so expensive about it? And even IF, they are producing tens of thousands of them. Ever heard anything about economies of scale TLG?

Gravatar
By in United States,

The 75279 "Resistance I-TS Transport" -- I was at "Galaxy's Edge" in Orlando in March (just before the COVID-19 closure, as it happens) and I was pondering a MOC -- there's a study model in the "Walt Disney Presents Gallery and Exhibits", so I got some good reference photos. If the LEGO x Disney collaboration is going in this direction, I wonder how long until we see the First Order TIE Echelon, the "Tuggs' Grub" Sienar-Chall Utilipede Transport parked atop one of the buildings, or Hondo Ohnaka's transport craft as seen in the "Smugglers Run" attraction?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I’m surprised that we didn’t get a set of that skimmer from episode 9.

They did a UCS Imperial Shuttle in 2010. That being said, they have re-done UCS models a few times before.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Well... this is why I stopped collecting Star Wars! Having said that, I'll probably pick up the Death Star Final Duel and Anakin's Jedi Interceptor rehashes as I never got around to those a few years back when I was still buying SW. Maybe. If I find them on sale!

Everything else is way too expensive and a bit boring. Easy pass.

Well, someone is certainly having a bad day. Some gripes are understandable, such as Grievous' Starfighter, and the AAT cannon being a shade too long. But look at the Razor Crest: a bit overpriced, but a perfect set otherwise, the AT-AT, again, a bit overpriced, but a great set otherwise, and, a Darth Vader minifig with dual molded arms + printing. A mixed batch to be sure, but a pretty good one.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The AAT and 501st Battlepack are easy day 1 buys. I’ll probably end up getting 2 Battlepacks on the release day.

Darth Vader FINALLY with arm printing may convince me to snag the throne room as I missed out on the old one. The price hike on that set feels justified considering the additions that were made.

That Grevious Starfighter has the most laughable price ever. I’d love to buy this, but for $80 I’d rather pay an extra $10 and get the Mobile Bat-Base when it comes out August 1st (which I’m doing anyways). That set will go on sale FAST and then I’ll snag it once it drops to around $60

I know that the 501st set will end up in my house at least by September, but the others are just TOO pricey. It would've been nice to have a general grevious's stafighter, but maybe when the price goes down to $30. All in all, pricey wave, I don't think I can count on picking up more than 2 of these sets.

I am pleased for the 501st set and AAT, but where are the AT-TE and Republic Gunship? 2020 is the final season of the Clone Wars, and we get a throne room duel and AT-AT. These sets could have been released next year. I am disappointed. From a long time LEGO AFOL, I am 50.

Its also the 40th Anniversary of Empire Strikes Back. If anything its surprising there aren't more Empire Strikes Back sets considering that and all we really have in this wave is just the AT-AT.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Sort of mixed bag for sure. Good to have some Knights of Ren minifigs. Price for the Grievous set is of course nonsense, though that minifig is really popular, and for good reason. Lots of rehashes, though, with the (admittedly better) Final Duel set, Jedi Starfighter, and yet another walker and AT-AT. Wish there was a more attractive 4-figure battle pack in the mix.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like that one of the additional images for 75293 is... a Transparent Red 1x1 round plate, a.k.a. stud. Really? We needed a picture of that?

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Curious bunch of sets. Some I really like, others I just could not care less about.
I like General Grievous's Starfighter, though I think it might be almost identical to the previous rendition of that spacecraft. Not that this matters, as I don't have that one.
I like the Armored Assault Tank (AAT) set, which is very different from the one I have from some years ago from the Battle of Naboo. People criticized 75080 for being too small compared to previous models of that same vehicle. This new one looks a bit bigger than the one I have. It is 2 studs wider.
I have no interest in any of the 'Disney' SW sequel trilogy stuff. Two of those spaceships look actually nice, but they won't be added to my wish list. The advent calendar has a very weak minifig line up, some of the micro models look nice, but I will probably pass on it.
The AT-AT and the Razor Crest look awesome, but those were already revealed.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Again Lego saving me money on their Star Wars theme. After years of purchasing nearly every Star Wars set made, I will only be purchasing the 501st and the AAT.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I've partly sworn off Star Wars LEGO, but there's a couple of these that I actually want and will be trying to get on discount.

On the box art for the AAT, the Battle Droids are listed as "Battle Droid" and "AAT Driver Battle Droid". However, the minifigures are the same.

Gravatar
By in Czechia,

Anakin’s Jedi Interceptor YES!!!!

I missed the last one due to my dark ages and now I don't feel like paying premium for one on bricklink, so this will be a fine addition to my collection. The walker is cool too I guess.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I almost thought they finally would have changed Luke's hair piece from the stereotypical "side part". I have noticed that one of his hair pieces is too long, while the other is too short.

Haha good catch! I hope my AAT doesn't crash if I put the wrong droid in the driver's seat...

All in all, I have to agree with many others that this wave feels incredibly expensive. I have no interest in Disney's trilogy (despite what my username suggests; I chose it back in 2015), and I already own the most recent versions of Anakin's Jedi Interceptor, General Grievous's Starfighter, and the AT-AT. I'll probably only get the 501st Troopers and AAT this time around, hopefully on sale.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Okay so, things they're boasting about these sets in the write-ups:
> Contains instructions
> No batteries required (that's almost a negative, to me)
> The pieces fit together and can be taken apart
> All the pieces are Lego pieces, not anything else
> You can play with them
> People can be fans of Star Wars
> It is socially acceptable to give this to someone as a gift
> Children have imaginations
> There are other products in the range
> We also made a videogame

Gravatar

A mixed-bag for sure... but it certainly seems like there is at least something for everyone.

Personally, what disappointed me the most was looking to see which Luke was included in the calendar - ANOTHER Tatooine Luke!!! At this point I could tile an entire wall with all of the Tatooine Lukes TLG has released in recent years... Bespin Luke (as rumoured by some) would have at least tied into the ESB 40th anniversary... Oh, well.

I really like the Galaxy's Edge set. I try to get one set from each form of media and I am not confident we will get another GE set .

Also, Vi Moradi, whilst being at GE is actually from the novel Phasma originally making her the first new EU character from the books to get the Lego treatment.

Iden Versio was made for the BFII and then had a tie in novel. Moradi was made long before GE

I noticed that too, I haven't read Phasma but I did read the Galaxy's Edge tie in book that is a sequel to Phasma and sets up how Vi Moradi became part of the theme park land's history. So I was pretty excited to see her included. I do agree the lack of minifigures in the transport set is disappointing, but the Vi figure makes it highly interesting. I sure hope its not our last theme park based set (I have been waiting for a Star Speeder 1000 or 3000 for years!)

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Rather annoyed that the torsos of Obi Wan and Anakin were reused from the Duel on Mustafar set, complete with damaged robes. Yet Anakin's interceptor was destroyed during Battle of Coruscant and Grievous was long dead by the time they duelled. Lego should have included the previous, non soiled versions of their robes.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

rehash, tiring and boring. Next :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

The sets all look pretty great, but some of these prices are ridiculous. The AAT and Grevious's Starfighter especially, which sucks since those are both one's I'm interested in

Gravatar
By in United States,

Lots of great figures in this wave with the typical subpar/mediocre builds. The prices seem alright for some sets, but absolutely outrageously overpriced for the grievous starfighter. The justification for the Grevious mold being very expensive still does not reasonably defend the factually overpriced $80 cost. If that were the case the total cost should be $60 tops. Hopefully, that set flops in sales like some of the buildable figures.
Either way looks like for once I will be buying more than 2 sets from a wave just for the figures

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Certainly nowhere near good price to part ratios, and even less "price to volume" ratio on many of those sets.

Not hating Star Wars, but the price factor is a big reason I don't collect it.

Battle Pack looks to be the only reasonable set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

As someone who rarely buys SW sets, I think this wave looks great (barring some prices; remember when Grievous' ship was $30?).

This comments section shows that, as much as they complain, SW collectors more often get higher quality sets than other themes. Any set of this wave's quality would shine in a different theme, like MCU, Jurassic World or even this year's Ninjago. I'm shocked the Throne Room set hasn't gotten more praise. Also, snowman Gonk? Incredible.

Gravatar

So, well, how do you start even giving a comment on these sets....... I have many Star Wars sets from the last 8+ years and to be honest all I can really say is Lego have been lazy in any redesign, and added 50% to the base price minimum - no real imagination or excitement for any of this wave - really poor.

I only would get the AAT and the Razorcrest, and the Death Star two duel. The AAT because it has Ahsoka, and an Ahsoka’s legion 501st trooper. And the Razorcrest, because who can say no to baby yoda. Also, I would get the duel just for the arm printing on Darth Vader.

I must admit I'm loosing interest in the Star Wars line. How many times are they going to release a different version of the same set!! I've gone from collecting nearly every set, to a couple per year. May look at buying them 2nd hand in 3-4 years when the younger humans get tired of them. Marvel Super Heroes is more appealing at the moment

Some of the new star wars sets are just amazing. Then there are recent Turbo Tank, AAT, MTT, and now Grievous Starfighter. The vehicle models are so bad compared to their previous iterations. "

Personally, I think the new Grievous starfighter looks much better than the old one, aside from the price. It's a lot smoother, for one thing, and the lightsaber storage inside the engines is a clever feature.

I might go for the Final Duel set because I've never gotten one. I have most of the original sets from 20 years ago other than the most expensive ones back then. The only others that interest me are the Razor Crest & maybe the I-TS, 501st & the Advent Calendar. It will depend on if I can get they with a good discount.

The ridiculously high prices don’t bother me. No one but the die-hard Lego Star Wars fans will buy them at rrp, then in a couple of months retailers will panic and slash the prices in half to get rid of excess stock. That’s when I’ll bite. This is how it ALWAYS works now - especially in the UK. Casual Lego fans & Parents aren’t willing to pay these exorbitant prices - Lego are pricing themselves out of the market, sadly.

Maybe this is intentional- set the RRP "exorbitant", knowing they'll sell plenty at that price, then lower it after a little while, and sell a bunch more.

Time to rebuild 75038!

By in United Kingdom,

Okay, didn't want to go on about the ridiculously high prices but yeesshh... think I might be done with Star Wars Lego as it just doesn't seem worth it anymore.

I mean, a £20 price hike for all of 50 pieces on the 'Death Star Final Duel' over the previous version?

The Calendar has to be the worst yet, literally only figure in it worth it is the 'Ugly Sweater Darth'.

A new Fortnite season, the Pokemon Sword DLC, and new STAR WARS sets all in one day? YES!!!

By in Australia,

Okay, as a Star Wars fan, I’ll try to cover the new ones:
Advent Calender: Not Bad, I like the jumpers and mini builds

Jedi Interceptor: I like it, but it doesn’t add much to the 2014 one which I own.

AAT: The build looks terrible, but I might get this for Ahsoka and the Clone. But for $60...

Knights of Ren: Nice build and all, but not great in the end.

Grievous’ Starfighter: Why is there no Episode III Cody and a Mustafar Obi-Wan? Build isn’t bad though, but extremely overpriced. I might have gotten it if it had Cody, but I won’t now...

Throne Room: Remarkably similar to 2015, but still a cool set, if a little pricy.

Resistance Transport: having never been to Galaxy’s edge this doesn’t interest me.

Along with the others which have already been revealed, this seems like a ‘not bad’ wave. That’s all.

By in Canada,

2010’s Grievous Starfighter 8095 was $50US.... now its $80? (Looking virtually identical optically and piece count to today’s version) That’s a 60% price increase in 10 years.... can we really justify that much?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I don't mind some models occasionally cycling/repeating over time (I've somehow managed to miss Grievous Starfighter every time) but the Jedi Startfighter / Snowspeeder thing is just bonkers.

When there's so many other iconic/important sets and playsets that could do with a proper update, it's a little galling to see these same things rolled out every year taking up product slots. Seriously, the last Tie Interceptor/Bomber were from the blocky 'blue' days of Star Wars Lego...WTH...

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Interesting that the Grievous Starfighter set is only 30 parts bigger than last time, BUT it goes without the chair / lightsaber holder which means gives it maybe another 30 parts on top of that. Plus, it has gold flowers on the side, so that's progress.

While people can possibly justifiably complain about the increasing price, I will say that I love how hefty and dense modern Star Wars sets are. When I pick up some of the more recent builds compared to the older ones, they're just a hell of a lot more solid than they used to be.

By in United States,

Super psyched for a set based on rise of the resistance!!! I tried doing the ride vehicle in digital designer and then stopped because of the corners/interface wasn’t letting me put bricks next to each other surprisingly. LEGO if you want all my money I would like that, the starspeeder, and more parks exclusive sets, Legoland or Disney

Oh yeah and the razorcrest is cool too

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Night Buzzard seems like a worthy purchase. It is the cheapest set to include Knights of Ren, and it includes two, for half the price of the other set with two Knights of Ren.

"With regard to the price of 75286-1 General Grievous' Starfighter, I agree that it is much too expensive. However, I was informed that General Grievous figures are exceptionally costly to produce, hence that is reflected in the sets where he appears.

I am not defending the price, I am simply forwarding the justification I received directly from LEGO when 75199-1 General Grievous' Combat Speeder was released."

Thanks for the info! That being said, it makes me wonder if something happened behind the scenes. The previous Grievous Starfighter (2010) was of a similar size/part count and cost $50 (no noticeable price hike). General Grievous' Wheelbike (2014) was $24 and had 261 pieces. It wasn't until 2018 when the "General Grievous tax" seems to occur. Something must have changed in that 4 year gap...

Spoiler alert...

In the Death Star Final Duel set, Darth Vader should have a detachable right hand. You can pull minifigure hands out of course, but you are not supposed to. Would be cool if there were a new wrist attachment to allow you to do that officially.

By in Sweden,

The 501st Legion one is neat, but as others have voiced, the whole wave is really overpriced. Probably my last SW purchase, if this pricing trend continues. Might as well save up for the real big ones like the modulars or the supercars...

I know what I'm not gonna buy this summer. I have made MOCs similar to the speeder in 501st Legion Clone Troopers set. Maybe I can clone the walker with my spares. We'll see.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Am I the only person who really dislikes the design of the last two AAT's? The Clone Wars one from 2009 had a good design and size and every since we've been getting ones that just look... eh. Still, the Ahsoka figure is very tempting. Maybe Bricklink prices won't be too terrible.

I'll also echo the distaste for the price of the Grievous ship. Just... way too much. I think again I prefer the older Clone Wars model. Really the only ones I think I'll end up with are Anakin's Starfighter since I missed the 2014 one, and the AT-AT despite the price being higher than I was hoping for.

By in Netherlands,

I love the Night Buzzard and wish it had been in ROS more. It was a set I was hoping for. Though I have to say, the scale is insane - the ship is 36 meters long in-universe and only 29 centimeters long, that's a 1:124 scale, an even smaller scale than the shuttles! Compare the later Sith Infiltrator sets, which generally have a 1:70 scale. This is a bit of a bummer for me personally as I like to display sets of the same type/scale on the same shelf (so the starfighters together, the shuttles together, Tantive IV on its own). I struggle to think of any set I have on this scale, I don't think I have any on that small scale (except the Tantive IV which is even smaller at 1:204).

I like Grievous's Starfighter and will get it at a reduced price.

My AT-AT from 2014 is pretty perfect as it is, no large changes in the new set it seems.

I like the Razor Crest as a ship, but I think the small set doesn't really do it justice and I'll probably hold out for a UCS version.

All in all, just one set I was really hoping for and its scale is a bummer, it should've been almost twice as long. I already got the UCS A-Wing, the T-Rex and Barracuda Bay though in recent months so I don't mind being able to save up a bit. Here's hoping 2020 brings a second cool UCS, maybe it's time for an improved X-Wing?

P.S. As much as I like the Night Buzzard as a ship, the intro text is weird as the ship wasn't in any of the action scenes or battles in the movie. Kind of weird that the text pretends it was in there.

The SW licensed sets have for the most part always had this problem with price.

THESE prices though are probably because of the virus, and Dinsey is doing the quick and dirty way of getting money back quick (instead of say making them cheaper to sell more and actually make more money back in the long run)

The other reason is interest in the brand has fallen dramatically since the awful Disney trilogy, so once again jack up that price to make up the shortfall.

I'm not interested in any of these and have stopped collecting them altogether, even more so because all they do now is rehash sets (which makes the high prices even more obvious).

I've said it multiple times - Dash Rendar and the Outrider, Prince Xizor's Virago, Kyle Katarn (plus Mara Jade) and the Moldy Crow. Make those and they will sell - and I will buy!

Gravatar
By in United States,

^Maybe it will draw in the AFOL's who are in their mid 30's-20's... but how many 7-12 year old kids know who Kyle Katarn and Dash Rendar are these days? I could see Lego sneaking in some Legends characters into on occasional one off set (not unlike the limited Old Republic wave or the Force Unleashed sets from back in the late 2000's); but there is no way to justify a whole release wave dedicated to what are at best now considered legacy characters. Not to say I wouldn't want to see those characters eventually in Lego, I have been wanting an Ebon Hawk set for years now... but lets be pragmatic about it and remember those characters have not been in the forefront of the pop culture zeitgeist of Star Wars for decades now.

Except for the Outrider which does show up in background shots of A New Hope's Special Edition, a similar ship in Rebels and a few identical ships to the Outrider are actually in Rise of the Skywalker. So actually... our best bet at seeing the Outrider right now might actually be in a Sequel trilogy set. :P

Love or hate the sequel trilogy, it had far more exposure to the primary 7-12 year old demographics than some old 90's video games currently have. Even then only 1 set in this whole wave is direct from the sequel trilogy, the other sets are from a theme park ride, one from The Mandalorian, two OT Trilogy films and everything else Prequel and Clone Wars tie ins. Again... all parts of the franchise that are going to have more brand recognition than any of the old Legends stuff has now... Well maybe not the theme park ride... considering the ride opened in late December/early-January and has spent the majority of its operating life closed due to virus shutdowns the amount of people who have actually ridden it is still relatively small; but considering Lego plans sets years in advance its likely they were planning a tie in to the theme park attraction long before anyone realized that Disneyland and Disney World would spend the majority of 2020 with closed gates.

Even then Disney+ is still streaming... so Mandalorian and The Clone Wars are huge in Star Wars right now and it was wise of Lego to make those the focus of this wave. We could use some more Mandolorian sets though, where is our fell Beskar Mando set at?

Gravatar

Lego itself can not use its own models can they? Or why is the landing gear at Grievious' ship not extracted?

I definitely want the AT-AT and the advent set. I shall wait for reviews before making my mind up on other sets.

I always find the 'rehash' comments amusing though, as I am 100% sure there are never people new to Lego who would like to buy SW sets, I mean what a crazy idea!

Not only that but LEGO keeps making new types of bricks, improving the looks of the sets. 8095 was the last Grievous Starfighter, which was both released a decade ago (personally in my dark ages) and does not look nearly as good as the new set.

Hope you enjoy the AT-AT, I have the one from 2014 (which was my first large set post dark ages) and it was my favourite display item until I got the UCS Falcon.

Personally, I have almost 50 sets (mostly '17-'20) but I have only pulled the trigger on one STAR WARS set despite loving the movies (Yoda's Hut). I was ready to get another from this wave but now I'm not sure. Alas the awards go to...
1st- Death Star Final Duel
2nd- Knights of Ren Transporter

They're all very nice and welcome sets. I especially like the Clone Wars and prequel sets since that's what I'm most interested about, but the new AT-AT and Death Star Final Duel sets look great as well. I personally haven't seen the Resistance I-TS Transport before, but that one also goes on my wish list.

I also noticed the "Find the secret code to unlock this ship" to play it in the upcoming LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga game. Some other sets have this too as well as "Play it in Star Wars The Skywalker Saga". I wonder if these have appeared on boxes of sets before.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Obscene prices, minor variation of previous releases, pandering to clone fans. The sets with real interest to me are the razor crest, poorly scaled knights of ren and the theme park tie in and they are hideously expensive just for interesting minifigs and lots of grey again. Its just another day of the same rubbish at Lego star wars.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The longer I've been around Lego Star Wars the more stagnant it seems to be. Only 3 new sets and the rest are remakes that don't even do much to iterate on the prior version. The last Grievous fighter was 10 years ago and this looks almost the same. Not that we even needed another Grievous fighter. If you wanted to release Grievous in an expensive set, why not put him in a Separatist capital ship that we haven't seen before? It's not like Grievous' fighter is some iconic ship, it has like 30 seconds of screentime in Episode III and no combat.

I will say that those 3 new sets look legitimately good. I really want that Razor Crest and I'm intrigued by the KoR and Resistance transports. I just wish the majority of new waves was new content, not a minority.

Also, RIP $20 sets. Looks like aside from battle packs, $30 is the new floor for Lego Star Wars sets. And it only goes up and up and up from there.

The royalties are significantly higher for SW than for, let's say SpongeBob or Minecraft. Also, the core fans have a strong loyalty so you're able to ask for the mark-up. Then, online retail currently dictates the price and wants to give huge discounts. That all combined gets you a bit closer to where we are now.

Sad though you just started in '17 - you missed out on the legendary 75xxx OT sets, then. Cantina, ATAT, Tydirium.

Also: why skipping Yoda Hut? No stickers, lovely display, 3 exclusives minifigs, legendary scene from ESB! "Great warrior, hmm?" I guess you can still find it for 20$. There is no excuse to have missed this.
