LEGO teases something...
Posted by Huw,LEGO has posted a teaser on social media which itself does not reveal much but if you manipulate the image you can see an outline of what it is. You can view that image after the break.
Presumably an official reveal is imminent.

It's a NES. TV in the middle, controller on the left and console on the right
‘I’ve no idea.’
Press X to doubt :)
Huw, you know exactly what this is! You commented about it in the forum not 3 hours ago! :)
Its a classic tv and a Nintendo Entertainment System
^^ I know nothing...
(in my best Manuel accent...)
I already saw the leaks and I love it
I am getting not that I didn't know what it is and I certainly didn't sent you a tip (feels mustache).
NES + LEGO -> Mario?
It just leaked lmaoooo
I wonder if there will be a function that makes Mario move around on the screen. I mean the tv might be just big enough to hide some elaborate mechanics that somehow makes the screen non-static.
This one set has made the LEGO Super Mario theme go from joke to a must have item.. wow..
That's an odd looking Bionicle.
(In all seriousness I had a lot of fun with my uncle's NES as a kid playing Super Mario. It looks like a neat set.)
There will be a review here in three, two, one ...
i saw a german youtube video of a NES set posted a few minutes ago and the set looks legit
It has an exclusive 8-bit Mario tile with it, which is nice. Despite my love of Mario games in the 80’s I’m not buying any of the recent Mario sets. Not my cup of tea :-)
Gonna mod that hard!
Add a 8" TFT to the telly and a Pi to the console...
Just2good will be happy
That's an oddly-shaped typewriter if ever I saw one...!
That's an NES! I'm guessing its either be a brick-built NES or a set based on a classic Nintendo theme.
Well that’s instantly recognizable. I guess this is to go along with the new Mario sets?
Need some Zelda and Samus merch, Big N!
I already saw the leak. It nearly gave me a heart attack!
...Well, no, not really. But I did do a massive double take. I've been dreaming about something like this for years!!!
I'm not usually big on box art but I have a very distinct memory of my brother opening the NES for Christmas the year it came out and this box looking so distinctly like that gave me all the nostalgia. Now to see if my mom commandeers the set to play Tetris when we're in the middle of a game.

I think in one of the leaked images there was a crank on the right of the tv, which I believe ia used for moving the background of the level, a little bit like the Lego Batman Movie Batcave's suit rack
Seen it all.... BUT the biq question is how much!?
I think it looks fantastic in every way. Except for the $230 price, is it? You can get an actual original console in good shape with some games for less than half that. Over 2600 pieces though including an exclusive new mold means the value on paper is pretty appropriate. A little integration with the interactive mega-Mario is a very nice bonus, too, and I hope they do more clever things with that brick in the future.
Personally, I'm wondering how they did the wires... I've always imagined a Lego NES replica in my head, but that one detail was always a big question mark for me.

fake, NES controller has only A and B buttons :)
I wonder how quickly people will begin to modify this set to show other NES games.
oh dammit, just when I was saving money for Switch games... guess I'll stab silently my wallet :P
Is it time for the monthly too expensive set
Not bothered about the other Mario sets, but a big yes to this one :D
Galidor returns!
Not sure why anyone would want to spend time and money building a plastic 70's tv and console? Possibly some strange childhood nostalgia, but from distant memory the Sega Mega drive was more fun. Not really a difficult choice between this and expanding my Star Wars Empire....

Yeah, the price is a deal breaker for me. Nice that it's 1:1 but, too expensive.

That is why variety is the spice of live! This for me is an amazing must buy, yet I don’t own (and probably never will) a single Star Wars set. Lego is keeping us both happy!
I would like to see even SNES, Mega Drive (Genesis in the US), N64 and PS1 models!
Well this is unexpected! Maybe it was, but I didn’t see it coming. I’ll likely admire this from afar and skip it but I certainly do appreciate that it exists at all. Saw some pictures on Instagram, I wonder how complex the mechanics are inside the TV and if it would be possible to change the “level” so to speak.
Is... is that an NES? Hmmmmm....
Ready Player One! Ready Player Two to turn the crank handle!
Again.....
I can believe TLC having once again the way to empty our pockets.
What I can't believe is the people who get exited for fake things like this.
Legos are made to enhance creativity, not to make replicas of objects that are useless.
What if the next lego set is a useless ventilator in times of pandemic???
I wonder how much of a hand Chris McVeigh had in these, since he works for LEGO now.
https://chrismcveigh.com/cm/building_guides_-_technology.html
Definitely I will get it!!
Only if it's a GWP

I think this kind of item is more for display as this year, they seem to be more focused on giving adults more display items. Fine by me as long as they keep making UCS and modular sets too!
I’ve been waiting for this set for a looooong time....
@Five_Sided_Square said:
"I’ve been waiting for this set for a looooong time...."
And you had to wait all that time for someone else to do it for you?
I saw something very similar to this at Bricks Cascade a few years ago (except it was entirely automatic and motorized). Still looks interesting.
I don’t think I’ve ever played on a NES ... but I just love the concept of this! I’m intrigued by the thought of the mechanism to play the console and all of the other uses it could have.
I can’t wait to see how creative the MOC’s will be based on this! And if Lego will consider this kind of concept for other sets too?
I grew up with a SEGA Mega Drive playing Sonic the Hedgehog so that would be a dream set for me :)
If that TV can make Mario move Ima be super impressed.
That's a bit surprising indeed. I bought a minifig-scale version of this set a few years ago at a Lego convention (it has custom printed parts). I have it proudly on display with minifig-me playing a supermario game.
A large scale version looks fun too, but if the $230 mentioned above is true that's a deal breaker. I'm all for nostalgia, but I got a mini-NES for 50 bucks some years ago and it actually lets me play a large number of games. I'm very curious to see if there will be a market for this.
Ok, so if you want to see better images of this, you can check it out on legoleaks on Instagram...
This is awesome! I hope this leads to more Lego sets based of Nintendo consoles. I’d love a Lego Wii, 3DS, or Switch
This ought to lay to rest any doubts about the Nintendo-Lego collaboration ending with those odd-ball Mario sets. How funny would it be if they made "cartridge packs" for this like CMFs. We'd all be waiting for our favorite games to drop...
I don’t know what just made me think about this, but Nintendo and LEGO *need* to relaunch Fabuland with an Animal Crossing overlay. Many of the Fabuland minifigures could easily be good representations of Animal Crossing villagers with the right paint jobs.
This is so bad.
No, no, don't get me wrong. The set LOOKS great and all. But...WHY? WHo asked about this?
They spend time and resources making cool but BORING STATIONARY set. ONCE AGAIN.
@omega64 said:

I bet he won't, there's no minifigures and it's not minifig scale, thus it's worthless to him.
I think it looks great.

There is I saw leaked images of it it's so cool!
Seriously, like some people have mentioned already, what's the point of this? I don't think many people want a model of a console, especially for hundreds of dollars. So what's next...a Lego phone model?

This guy has the right idea, I mean come on! Lego needs to get back to making useful, not fake things. Like the fire engines from City can really put out fires, or the stables from Friends that actually fit a real horse. Or the modular buildings that are a real city block housing real occupants.
Also I'm not sure what that last comment is. Surely we're all aware that Lego has been making actual face masks for health care workers since about the first month of the pandemic? https://brickset.com/article/51526 Seems like a weird jab to make, given that they have been actually helping, likely more than most of us here.

Guys, what are you talking about? Boring stationary set? I guess you didn't see the images...
Definitely a day one purchase for me so long as it doesn’t have stickers on. I’m getting really sick of all the great sets recently that have been ruined by stickers. I don’t care how much printed bricks adds to the price I will happily pay it if it avoids having stickers in sets

the NES is the progenitor of the Wii, and it was the generation after the Atari (2600).
if you have a Wii, you can homebrew to run NES and SNES games, but this ain't the best place to talk about it :)
A brick built NES meh ...
A Brick Boost Built NES that u came make a simple game or even just a simple game in it... now that sounds cool
Next I want an official LEGO C64 :-)
A $250 dust collector - pass...
I would definitely buy it if it was just the NES, without the TV, will have to see better official pictures to sell me on the idea.
I think the comments on this article are some of the most whiny and bitchy yet. If you don't like it, don't buy it! This is going to be hard for a number of you to hear, but... not every LEGO set has to cater to you.
To this day I still remember opening my NES that one glorious Christmas Eve. 40 years later, I'm still a console gamer, only second to my love of LEGO. From the box art, to the level of details, to the interaction factor (going on leaked images), this set checks all the right boxes for me. I'm sure I'm not alone.
I love how people think a company as big as LEGO - which at the end of the day needs to turn a profit - doesn't do their due diligence with market research and target audience set acquisition.
Looks a bit 80s, could it be another Stranger Things set?
Wow I love the use of top hats for the dials, back side of the headlight bricks to make the speaker and the light blueish gray 2 by 6 tile is going to be super useful!
Jesus, these comments! What is it recently with the constant complaining in every comment section about every new release? Not everything needs to appeal to you all the time. Personally I don't have any connection to the set but it looks cool and I can see the appeal. People need to stop taking these announcements as a personal attack on them, it's getting tiresome.
This is very exciting!

I mean, the same reason anyone buys any LEGO set?
Based on the leaked images... Wow! What a beauty! It literally looks identical to the original, and the box art is superb. The description says that Mario can be moved across the screen, and the cartridge can be inserted into the console.
Looks like the Nintendo bricks are printed, too.
This was my childhood games console so I'll be buying one day one.

I couldn't agree more, which is why I also posted a reality check. I remember when the comments on this site were full of LEGO *enthusiasts*, great insight, and even the occasion "if you like this set, check out this great MOC you can get instructions for".
Now it's just entitled people complaining. Such a bummer.
According to research, this set will contain 2,646 pieces and retail for around $250 in the US.
I hope this collaboration between Nintendo and Lego results in Legend of Zelda sets and other Nintendo franchises. £€$£€$
It looks like Mario may move automatically once the crank is turned for the background - the background looks built in such a way that the clear radar dish behind Mario will ‘jump’ over obstacles and enemies, with the tiles acting as little ramps.
I guess this set was why the Clockwork Aquarium submission for Ideas got declined as it may have been too similar in operation to this set. Just a hunch, we'll never know for sure.
As for this set, I never owned this console but I have played other peoples' at their house and being a gamer and Lego fan, this is very much my thing. It's expensive for sure, but I reckon it'll be worth it; it's the first proper brick built Nintendo Lego set, has plenty of pieces, is based on an iconic 80s console (one that saved gaming industry in the US), and with the Nintendo partnership, they may as well do something like this.
As for those wanting something else from say Sega, well they had their chance and didn't go for it and it may never happen due to conflicts of interest.

Did you change your phone number by chance? Maybe LEGO couldn't get ahold of you when they were deciding between this set or yet another set for your Star Wars Empire. That's got to be devastating for you.

There may or may not be something like this in the final product *wink wink*
And the award for biggest mistake of the year goes to... I at first thought this was gonna be a theme based on classic Nintendo games. Yet, we get this thing.
Used NES aren't that expensive. You get a brick-built TV and a brick built NES you can't actually play video games on; for $200 and something. My DSi was $159.99 and the 2DSXL is around that. Switch Lite; not much more. You can build a Pi based emulator for peanuts. That being said, I've wanted to try Duck Hunter and the light gun ever since I knew it existed when I was 9-10 (and I'm just 23--Dad had an Atari 2600).

This is a LEGO product! You want a NES and playable games, go get your used NES! Why is it so hard for these kids on here to understand that this is a licensed LEGO set?
My only complaint goes for the price, wish it was cheaper. But from the leaked images, it is a beauty. I really want to know how the moving screen will work.
About the subject, well, less than a month ago a vast majority was happy that a typewriter was chosen as an Ideas set. Really weird to see people complaining of a NES, which is way more interesting. But well, sometimes I feel like the vast majority of the AFOLs are stuck on the 1960s or 1970s, maybe this explains why they prefer the typewriter, and the fact they still feel Classic Space or Castle would be more profitable than an 21st century IP or new theme...
A large 18+ parts pack disguised as a NES so the kids wouldn't touch it. Like a piggybank in a fake book. (?)
The LEGO marketing dept. manages to baffle once again, because there is no way a proper market research would've resulted in this being actually made.
Already seen everywhere. It's a NES with a classic TV with a movable Mario and rolling background. Pretty silly.
A new NES Mini with a LEGO case would have been much more interesting.
I can't imagine this being under 200€, it's not near minifig scale, I don't think it will include mifigures (maybe one?), it doesn't look like anything I could fit in my Lego city (if I ever get to build one) but.. why!?why am I hypped fot this? I'm pretty sure I'll be trying to buy it.. not sure how I'll manage though xD
And if it only includes one controller.. I'll need get some extra pieces for a second one too haha

To say you are missing the point would be an understatement.
Wow, just checked out all the leaked images. Hopefully peoples negatively will dissipate after the official reveal. This thing is bizarre/amazing unlike any other Lego release I can think of, a great display piece, terrific nostalgic icon that's actually playable (although very limited), I'm sure it will be a brilliant build experience for those who get it. Also I think this is the first time the new box art style really works, looks great...
Nintendo
Chris mcveigh much? Nice!
Ok, looks like some more Nintendo sets are coming. Fingers crossed for a CMF line.
However if it isn’t practical, I’m not getting it.
Well the set already leaked when this came out haha. Anyone interested in seeing it, you know where to see it. Looks good, definitely nostalgic for those who had this.
@teran01:
To answer everything about your post...yes. It also has some sort of interactive function with the Mario gamefig, but it's not really clear what that is (the site I was looking at theorized it'll play the theme music).
@ambr:
It's actually an incredibly detailed rendition of a CRT TV set. If it was a MOC, it'd have pretty good odds of attracting at least a nomination for an award at any major AFOL convention, if not an outright win.
@saldal330:
Eh, you can always use the ventilator set to club the next guy unconscious while you grab the last pack of toilet paper.
@saldal330:
Sure. Buy everything they produce in a calendar year, and it's yours.
@AgentR2:
Only if the Wii set comes with a blank flatscreen TV that has a Wiimote sticking out of it.

Far be it from me to try and curb your enthusiasm, but there is a reason (actually there are many) why many people are highly critical of TLG in recent times.
While I personally like this upcoming set and am quite partial to buying it one day, I can totally understand why many are less enthusiastic. And as for TLG doing market research, well, that appears to yield quite random results every so often. Otherwise the Crocodile locomotive wouldn't have sold out so quickly while the much hyped (by TLG) Mickie and Minnie seems to be in no danger at all of selling out any time soon.
https://www.vjgamer.com.hk/articles/2020/07/13/69964/lego-71374-nintendo-entertainment-system
Well isn't that neat! I was waxing nostalgic a few weeks ago for the massive old wood frame console TV I grew up with. Now I get a LEGO one!! Sold!
this will fit nicely next to my Switch!
any fellow Switch gamers here?
Glad to see that someone ( @ricecake) already made the connection to Chris McVeigh. I would be surprised if he were not involved. I bought and built his NES model, and it is pretty great. This appears to be quite a bit larger, in fact possibly _too_ large / expensive.

But the Crocodile Locomotive set actually released and people are starved for new sets (at least here in the US). The Mickey and Minnie set is a pre-order (which I wish was a policy they would put in place with all upcoming sets). Can't really compare the two since one isn't out yet...
I wish it was Sesame Street
