Clandestine images of 75294 Bespin Duel have been circulating in the darker corners of the Internet for a few weeks now but this morning Snazzy_Bricks found the set's instructions at LEGO.com.

The 18+ set was to be the San Diego Comic Con exclusive but now that the event has been cancelled it will presumably be available elsewhere, although we do not yet have any details of availability.

Update: it's listed at ToysRUs.ca but is out of stock.

The inventory has also just been published, which shows a number of new parts, including a head and a torso.

By in Netherlands,

Looks cool, mostly for display. It's only the one scene you can recreate.

Luke should come with only one hand, though.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Looks cool more for display than playability.. nice one lego!!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Aw man, I really hope I can just buy this... I don't want to faff about with limited availability. They make the blasted things, surely they can just make more.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Rebrick it. Nothing special.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I really hope it will be purchasable for the common lego star wars fan too. And not only the elite

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Looks great, maybe they'll repurpise it for a GWP when they launch the winter UCS set?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Looks like a good set but I think the 18+ age rating is just to make it more appealing to adults

Gravatar
By in Latvia,

If it's gonna be available as a retail set, I might buy it
Edit: I just looked at the instructions. Why is the background black for a black/grey set?

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

They had a couple of sets like this as gifts for purchases over X on the webshop. Endor, Trench Run, Hoth Assault... This looks like another in the series.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Surely releasing this to a wider audience would be a 'armless endeavour...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

What makes this a 18+ set haha
Seems like it should be a 12+ than anything else...

Totally agree. Exclusive minifigs ok, maybe, but highly desirable and cool sets only available to an elite few who could a) make it to SDCC at all and b) be lucky enough to win the right to buy? This was the most disgusting thing TLG ever did to SW and Superhero fans over the years. Glad this year there will be no such thing.
Make this available via LEGO.com at least I say and be done with those "exclusives". As the name suggests, they exclude most of those who would love to get one.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I thought that Lego had said it was going to stop doing 'exclusive to X' type sets?

I hope though this is available as a proper retail purchase now rather then a 'gift when you spend x' type set as that'll just lead to it getting scalped from the genuine fans. As said, doing it in limited numbers is pretty stupid as I think the vast majority of star wars fans would want this as a display set. I know I do, even if with the low part count, I could probably order bits and build it myself.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It almost certainly has his hand missing, that's probably the whole point--and also why it's rated 18+. I'd go so far as to say that's the reason he's positioned the way he is on the box, so you can't tell by looking at it.

I like the pitchfork application- beautiful piece.

The microphones allude to a karaoke show. Will there be a secondary model?

They’ve only stopped regional exclusives, that allows stuff like Lego House exclusives and SDCC exclusives, but not stuff like the original wave of Chinese New Year sets.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Booklet: "Released as an official Lego model for the first time" - well it's also part of 75222 Betrayal at Cloud City.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Will the Luke minfigure have an arm with no hand? That would be the kind of attention to detail I want to see in this set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I’m hyped to see the availability of this set, in my opinion, SDCC exclusives are the most Calvinist thing LEGO has ever done.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Looks good. I like these little scenario sets.

Yes, but at least it's not exclusive. It's the same that came in 75222.

Gravatar
By in Jordan,

I'm not sure I see the issue that people have with exclusive sets like this. In my eyes having a set like this with no exclusive parts is much better than having minifigs with exclusive prints. At least this way it's easier to Bricklink for people who don't go to the events.

Gravatar
By in Finland,

I love this but I would hate for it to be a GWP or exclusive to some American store like Vader Bust

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

It's a nice set for the exclusivity rights of the SDCC, let's see if I can nab one.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Luckily, minifig hands are easily removable.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Luke will have a hand, Lego aren't going to ship an incomplete minifigure torso like that. Plus, ge starts this scene with everything intact, yes?

And as a feature, you can rip off Luke's hand yourself, ya weirdos ;)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Lego, if you are wise and powerful, should make this a free gift with $/£100+ Star Wars purchase for Father's Day 2021

I have spoken.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

That's 18+! It doesn't look any more difficult than duel on Mustafar! Looks nice though.

Gravatar
By in France,

I like it a lot and warmly hope for a wide release/availability.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I would enjoy more sets like this and don’t see why they wouldn’t be a successful line for general, widespread release.

We get a couple of great minifigs and a nicely detailed vignette, primarily for display purposes.

Personally I don’t desire the play features we see in other sets as they add parts (and hence price) and often technic pieces used to make moving trapdoors, platforms etc. look clunky and rob the set of realistic detailing opportunities. The 18+ tag seems a great place to position these display pieces.

They don’t need to be big either. How about a rebel trooper high up in his lookout post (i.e. recon tower on Yavin 4). Again, add lots of greeble details, but limit the scope of the model so we only have 200 pieces or so?

I still can't get over how strange and bug-eyed Vader looks.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I have to yet again say the packaging looks horrible, almost depressing even. It looks like all the fun is sucked out of the scene.

'It's really not a toy guys, I swear! Please buy our not-toy that happens to be made by Lego!'

The packaging seems to go directly against what the Lego brand stands for: fun and creativity for all ages.

@sirventricle said:
"I still can't get over how strange and bug-eyed Vader looks."

Me too. Especially because he seems to look up, which is such a strange look on the always-taller-than-you Darth Vader. It has been 5 years and I still feel that way.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is anybody else only buying this set for the injured face piece on Luke? I love the bruised appearance!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I need that Luke fig since I didn't get the big Cloud City set. Glad they're bringing it back, but we'll have to see how easy to find it is.

Gravatar
By in Brazil,

Unbelievable. I've been waiting for decades for a set that represents the Bespin duel (not simply included as a feature of Cloud City) and then when they do it, they make as an exclusive.

This is outrageuous, it's unfair.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Gah, why does Vader’s helmet look like it’s painted on a cylinder?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I don’t really care for SW, but this would be a must buy if I can find it. Might be able to recreate most of it, but there was mention of new parts or recolors?

Also part of 10123!

Gravatar
By in Brazil,

Vader's helmet looks strange, less bulkier. It doesn't look like the two-piece version.

Did they made a new one-piece helmet, like the first version?

EDIT: Nevermind, just saw the instructions now. No changes ahaha.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I think this set looks great! It would be a shame if it stays an exclusive.

Have a look at the booklet. NO WAY this is an 18+ set: straight forward building techniques and tiny building steps. The tiny building steps could be considered a waste of paper.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Bespin version of Luke is probably my favourite version of the character - it'd be nice to have access to one in a set that isn't either several hundred dollars or insanely exclusive. ... In fact, have ANY of the Cloud City versions of the major characters (Han, Leia, Luke, Lando) appeared in a set priced less than $100??? (w/o a 20th Anniversary print on the back, that is..!)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Yes! I've been waiting for sets like this for ages. Now we need one for all iconic scenes!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hopefully, this will be widely available. I don't really care much about the build but this will be a better set to get the new Darth Vader rather than the $100 remake.

Gravatar
By in United States,

One can always remove the hand yourself. But then is removing a hand never an "official" technique from Lego?

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Once you see the pitch fork, you cannot unsee it.

Did they really have to mock Luke as a farm boy here? Isn't loosing a hand already hurtful enough??!!11one

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

All I see is the pitchfork.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The back of the box at ToysRUs shows Luke with two hands, and a photo of the movie scene for comparison. I like the use of the pitchfork, very inventive. The 18+ probably reflects the price of $50 for 295 pieces.

It was used in the same way in 75222. Nice part usage indeed.

As others have said please make this widely available Lego, it's the kind of Star Wars set I've been missing! Sure we've gotten minifig vignettes before but they've been focused on play rather than display.

I believe that officially one should not remove minifigure hands. That said, LEGO Customer Service used to send dark red ones separately as replacements when they had a problem with them cracking.

{Yoda voice} Remove or do not remove. There is no ‘official’! {End Yoda voice}

Gravatar

Vader’s arms are printed; that looks to be a first! Decent build all around.

This is not correct. He has two flesh hands in the set. Look at the inventory.

The inventory shows a torso, not broken down into parts. But I'm sure you're right, I'm sure there's a hand, but I'd bet the instructions tell you to remove it. Even if there weren't a hand, there would be because that's a small enough part that they'd include a dupe.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hey, if you want one of Luke's hands missing, take it off. Including both gives you extra playability.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

What the hell?!?!?!? Lego are continuing to make some bad decisions with regards to ‘exclusives’.
This has got to be one the most iconic scenes of the original trilogy and it was planned for SDCC?!?!?!? I’m losing faith with TLG with each passing year.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Too bad once again I can't see the image of the set other than as a postage stamp size. All your ads cover up the image and you can't get rid of the stupid things on your phone. Brickset articles are usually good, but the ads just kill the article and when you can't even see the images being talked about why bother showing up to Brickset in the first place.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Really bad of them to plan the first ever set based on this iconic scene (apart from the two very expensive Cloud City sets) for a SDCC exclusive, even thinking about it from a financial perspective wouldn’t this set sell well in regular stores?

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Only realised now when I re-watched the scene that the three "pipes" close to the railing are shown in their cut off state, which happens just before Vader cuts (burns?) off Luke´'s hand. This means that if you pose them during their lightsaber duel on the catwalk - as shown on the back of the box - the pipes shouldn't be cut off yet. Just a few extra pieces would have been required, a clear miss I think.

Try clearing your browser data. If you have an account there should be no ads. I never have them

Gravatar
By in United States,

I find it crazy how many comments on this article are demanding Luke in this set be missing a hand, when Daddy No-Legs from Ninjago a few years ago saw a fuss for having a fully brickbuilt and possable leg assembly that apparently made him count as "half a minifigure" and he "should've come with standard legs."

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

If this ends up being a GWP for the next Star Wars D2C (which will probably be released for VIP members around 15 September, as in the past years), then I would not be that mad. But I'll guess we'll have to pay full RRP — i.e., in my case, as a Belgian, an additional 5 or 10 euros for no reason.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Once more I do think, that Lego makes a fool out of themselves by using the 18+ age range to mark a set as adult-oriented, which is clearly an easy to build set, which many kids would like to build and play with. This should have been a normal set within the Star Wars theme.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@nushae:
The "trench run" was a TIE Interceptor chasing an A-Wing over an open expanse on the second Death Star. There are at least three more sets that had a more limited release, which were the Millennium Falcon escaping the Space Slug, Yoda's hut on Dagobah, and the Lars family homestead. This set fits more with the Detention Block Rescue, and the Millennium Falcon cockpit.

@LegoRobo:
It's a fencing weapon with a dome-shaped hilt, so it would be a foil or an épée.

@unslipped:
Huh. I was sure that some version of Han or Luke was (Leia and Lando have been fairly uncommon minifigs in general, with their Bespin attire being exclusive to two Cloud City/Bespin sets, plus Lando's 20th minifig). I dug through Bricklink and can't find any. Turns out Bespin Luke is also exclusive to those same two Cloud City/Bespin sets, but the early version can be partially recreated. The only exclusive part is the printed legs, as the torso has turned up in seven Town sets.

@GSR_MataNui:
The only legitimate "half minifig" I can recall is from one of the Winter Village sets. There's a skating pond, and a set of legs are sticking out of a snowbank. There's no other half to the minifig. But one of my MOCs does have a half minifig. I made a vintage Routemaster bus, and there wasn't room enough in the driver's compartment to fit a full minifig, so he's got no legs. The steering wheel is actually attached to bricks that occupy the space where legs would normally be.

My guess is that his arm and hand are obscured because it's an 'illegal' offering, to include a minifig without a hand... though they know 100% of the buyers of this one will rip it off! So to avoid 'breaking the rules' they just don't show it on the packaging! You know there was a discussion about it within the LEGO team!
