Bespin Duel to be available at LEGO.com
Posted by Huw,
75294 Bespin Duel was originally destined to be this year's San Diego Comic Con exclusive set, but the event was of course cancelled.
Bad news for potential attendees, but good news for everyone else, because it's going to be available at LEGO.com in due course, as shown in the paper catalogue that's landing on doormats across the USA at the moment.
The 295-piece set will cost $39.95 and will presumably be released on September 1st. I will not be surprised if it is available in North America only.
Thanks to TheBrickFan for the news and image.

Harsh price conversion to GBP
Online and in stores? I expect either way they won't have enough for demand.
It’s nice of Lego to give everyone a new way of missing out on one.
I sincerely hope this makes it to the UK, the only part of Cloud City i've ever wanted.
I hope it will be available in Europe as well. A while back they pledged not to release any more regional exclusive sets.
Besides, I don't get why it could be bad news for SDCC attendees. The enjoyment of a LEGO product shouldn't be affected by how many other people have it, that would be very selfish.
And watch the scalpers buying them up....

I think it's more that some people pay a lot of money to go to SDCC, including expensive tickets and travel plans (probably more than $1000), and they expect to get a lot of souvenirs, whether it's exclusive LEGO sets or other merchandise from other franchises. Some people may have paid for their tickets before COVID-19 struck the world, and now that these LEGO sets are available directly from LEGO they can't really get their money back for their tickets. Of course, I'm assuming that those who attend SDCC plan to get more than just the Bespin set as well as more than what they spent on tickets, travel, and hotel. Perhaps other franchises are doing the same with their merchandise of selling it directly than through SDCC.
I thought they can't release region specific items anymore...
I said in a previous comment, this is THE most iconic scene of the whole franchise and Lego deemed it acceptable to limit the amount of people who would be able to buy this.....now they have the opportunity to rectify this.
Let’s hope they do and those of us that would love to buy this set get the opportunity to do so by buying it at retail cost.
"No Luke, I am your father."
It doesn’t say it’s a limited edition so maybe Lego have produced more sets so everyone can get on.
I hope this will be available in Europe. It wouldnt be fair if yet another regional release gets given to America

Did you misquote this on purpose so that we die-hard SW fans get angry?
Ontopic: I truly hope that this set will be available globally. If TLG sticks to its policy of non-regional exclusivity (just like it stuck to the policy of non-military vehicles, cf. Osprey case), then it ought to be available.
With toys, I don’t think I will ever be someone that likes the idea of limited editions.
I of course get the marketing aspect of it, but with toys I like the idea that if someone wants a toy and they can afford it at the retail price then they can get it.
Other things in life are challenging enough, having fun shouldn’t be.
So if regional exclusives no longer exist does that mean this will be more widely available worldwide

I wish their stock levels weren’t so regional specific, ie I can’t order Lego Ideas Tree House in Australia (showing as sold out), backorder in the US and in stock in the UK.
Bit gutted it's not Available in Britain as I quite like it for displaying and would pay the £40 for it too.. i might just get Obi wans or yoda's hut,
But nice set anyway lego!!
Obviously the decision to make this set SDCC exclusive was revolting and inexcusable to begin with, but given that that *did* happen, it does stand to reason that the entire stock of this set is in North America. They're not shipping worldwide from the distribution centre that serves the US, so obviously that includes this set since stock of it presumably does not exist elsewhere. Though I would hope that all countries served by that warehouse (I assume Canada and Mexico are?) would have access to it, at least.
I love it but I would have made it a $99 GWP in October knowing full well the amount of sets that come in that date.

I’m fairly certain that he meant the cancellation of the event was bad news for attendees. That’s how I read the article
In Canada this appeared on the TRU site for a few days a week ago, then suddenly disappeared. Then last week the newest lego flyer arrived in the mail and there it was again. I am also personally very excited to get this! I hope the supply is descent.
Lego stock in local stores is very bad this summer, understandably due to factory shutdowns. Even the latest set releases were pushed back a month from August to September, I've been dying to get my hands on several sets from different themes. Can't wait!
The Lego House sets earlier this year were exclusive to Europe, so maybe TLG’s plan to not release regional exclusives no longer stands.
$40?!?!? NOOOOOoooonoooooo!

Unfortunately, this is likely a similar situation to the Lego House sets during lockdown. All the Lego Houses would have been based in Europe (in prep for them being sold in Billund). This Star Wars set was only going to be available at SDCC so all the sets would have been physically located in the Americas. It wouldn't make sense to start trying to ship a small amount of sets all over the globe if they've just been made in one region. There could also be packaging/language issues to deal with as well (hence why The Lego House was only b
available in a couple of European countries, but the dinos and Tree of Creativity was available all over Europe).
Swings and roundabouts, I guess. I'll be disappointed not to get this set, but at least I got lucky with The Lego House when it was briefly available.
And here in HK, no exclusives (other than CNY) reach us...
For people that keep mentioning regional exclusives, I’d recommend checking out their actual policy https://brickset.com/article/43442/lego-pledges-to-stop-launching-regional-exclusives
This doesn’t fall under regional exclusive. I think we can all agree that things are not business as usual right now. This is an event set for a cancelled event, which is completely out of their hands. It’s a bit silly to not be cutting Lego some slack here
As mentioned above the most interesting part of cloud city without having to pay for the rest of 75222. If TLG increased production and did a worldwide release then maybe the price may even fall in the long run, rather than restricted availability which only inflates the price benefiting middle people in the secondary markets while both the fans and TLG lose out.

there is a good chance it will be coming to the UK on September 1st! They have made loads of these for everyone!
I love the look of this set but let's not think it's Armageddon if we don't get it. After all, it's a $25 set masquerading as a $40 set. There's nothing new or unique in it, even the ESB 40th logo is a sticker...
If I buy one, does anyone in Europe want to trade for the LEGO House?

Totally! This is THE THE THE set of the saga!
Either Lego has ramped up production of these substantially, or there are going to be a lot of unhappy collectors trying (and failing) to get their hands on this come September 1st.
Can’t imagine they’d be advertising it in the catalog if they didn’t have enough to meet demand...
I'm with @fulcrumbop, I'd love to trade this set for the LEGO House exclusives. Although some in the US have stumbled across sets, most of us are still waiting for the Harry Potter and Star Wars sets that released months ago in other parts of the world.
Does anybody see any hard-to-find parts in this set? Looks like it should be fairly easy to build from spare parts.

Gray pitchfork
There are no unique parts in the set as you can see here, https://brickset.com/inventories/75294-1, if you sort by the 'elements in sets' column.

It says above only available in North America!! I actually thought this might end up being an SDCC exclusive like the cockpit and the Han & luke storm trooper set few years back...

Excellent point, well said.
I sent an email asking about availability in Europe to the customer service and a week ago they said it will be exclusive to North America. Maybe they changed their mind but I am not sure. I hope it is not a regional exclusive.

It was meant to be a comic con exclusive, that's why it's available at all and that's why it will only be available to North America
Vader is Luke’s father?! Thanks for ruining it for me. I was going to watch it this afternoon but I guess I won’t bother now :-/
I hope LEGO makes enough stock of this because this set is an excellent way to get the new Vader in a cheaper and better-looking set. Spending over $100 on a "meh" remake is a bit much
Is luke missing his hand?
Darth Vader: If you only knew the Comic Con Bespin Duel set will be available on LEGO.com.
Luke: They told me it was cancelled!
Darth Vader: No, Luke. It will be $39.95.
Luke: No. No! That's not true. That's impossible!
Darth Vader: Search your feelings, you *know* it to be true!
Luke: No! No! It only has 295 pieces!
$40 for a 295 piece set? At first, that seems nuts, but look what SDCC exclusives are selling for on the secondary market. I have to admit, as someone who is mostly a diecast collector, a LEGO enthusiast, and occasionally dabbles in action figures, SDCC being cancelled, from my standpoint, has really helped. Lots of items that typically, you'd only see at a huge markup on the secondary market, are, now, being sold at roughly what they should be.

'No, I am your father' is correct
‘He told me you were available everywhere’
‘No, I am only in North America,’
‘That’s not true! That’s impossible!’
@GeordiePaul: Well, you’ve had forty years to watch it. I’d say that time’s up!
Today, multiple upcoming sets changed their (North American) release dates from "Coming Soon" or "Coming Soon on September 1, 2020" to "Coming Soon on August 24, 2020" including some upcoming Star Wars sets. Could the Bespin set be among them? Don't know , because so far this set remains unlisted on their site.

LOL! In much the same way that there are memes using a particular scene from the film ‘Downfall’, someone should replace the audio of ‘Empire’ with your script and pop it on YouTube. Would be brilliant.
I really hope it’s not North America only. They already get so many exclusives, and LEGO recently said they’re going to try and the stupid regional exclusivity stuff.
@obiron17:
It's certainly a keystone scene from the OT, but honestly there's only one scene that sends shivers down my spine, and that's when Luke is turning to the Dark Side, overpowering Vader in their final duel, and the score just fills the room.
All leading up to the moment that he looks down and sees his own mechanical hand.
Empire may be the most regarded film of the series, but that's the most powerful scene.

With SDCC exclusives and regional/retailer exclusives, it's been happening for years.
SDCC exclusive or North America only doesn't make a difference for me. The effect is the same. Would have loved to buy this from S @H for RRP, but it's not to be.
At least apart from the figures I can build most of it from my parts collection.
And considering the current state of things, missing out on a set like this is the least of our problems I guess.

Wait, .....what ?
Will Luke have a missing hand though? These are the important questions.
I’m getting this Day 1. Love the way this looks. Excellent display model
There's a new Aug 20 article on starwars.com about this set. At the end it says, "LEGO Star Wars Bespin Duel set arrives August 27, only on Target.com."
I’m smh at people complaining about how now, for only $40, everyone will have a shot at picking up a set that was to be a SDCC exclusive.
No airplane tickets; no hotel; no food; no event tickets; no hoping you win the raffle to be able to buy one; and no paying high prices on e-bay (although one could argue the prices aren’t that bad considering the aforementioned costs). Nope, you just cough up $40 plus shipping.
Quite the bargain, I say.

yeah just saw that too - hopefully it's wrong and we can get it at s @h too? fingers x'ed
edit: yep it's on the lego shop at home site, "coming soon" whew
Target now has it on their site as coming soon: available Aug 27th
Available through Lego.com in the U.S.
