Adidas / LEGO press release

Posted by ,

This press release is a bit redundant given that we posted better pictures last week, but I'll publish it anyway:

Adidas Originals and the LEGO Group Team Up for a Special Take on the ZX 8000 Silhouette

L is for LEGO play

Herzogenaurach, September 21st, 2020 - For the next instalment of this year’s A-ZX series, Adidas Originals has teamed up with the LEGO Group for a playful take on the ZX8000 silhouette.

Demonstrating that you’re never too old to play, this unique release sees the Danish toy company bring its instantly recognizable aesthetics to an Adidas archival icon.

So what does it look like? Designed as an ode to the classic LEGO brick, this unique ZX8000 trainer comprises a multicolor mesh and synthetic suede upper with a rubber outsole.

Meanwhile, taking its bold aesthetics to the next level, the shoe features LEGO studs on the heels as well as co-branded tongue tabs. Then, rounding out the look are co-branded yellow sock liners, 6 different coloured lace options, and interchangeable LEGO brick lace jewels.

Where can you get it? The Adidas Originals ZX 8000 LEGO trainers launch globally on September 25th at adidas.com/A-ZX.

Nice, but Na

If they where just Black, Grey and White then maybe.

Also would your really want to put bricks on your shoes, god forbid you don't look where your going and you've got your neighbour's dogs matter on your LEGO as well as your shoes.

tempted.
would NEVER put on bricks though

By in Singapore,

It wouldn't be out of place to infer you were posting this press release anyway just to take the mickey, knowing the overwhelmingly negative response so far!

But I gotta admit, I really like that pile of bricks they're sitting on. Those red 2x10 bricks are so classic. Good thing they're not actually being worn.

It's just too bad those studs will wear out pretty quickly if you're not a delicate walker though.

By in Netherlands,

Not the best looking but if I can get a pair I will :)

By in Australia,

"So what does it look like?"

Awful.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Today I learned that "lace jewels" is a thing.
I feel so primitive for having worn unjewelled laces all this time.

Gravatar
By in Austria,

bold aesthetics - Marketing speak for f* ugly.

By in United Kingdom,

I love 'em! I struggle so hard to find shoes with any colour any more, but the price tag is my issue. No chance I'm ever gonna own any!

Hey, each to their own, right. Everyone's entitled to spend their money on a hobby that doesn't harm anyone else; if that's trainers, then that's trainers.

(For example, and keep this quiet, I spend a fair wedge of my disposable income on children's building toys...)

By in United Kingdom,

I'm just disappointed they don't have anti-studs on the bottom

By in New Zealand,

Any chance for some Blacktron 1 Boots?

I’m disappointed that one sole doesn’t have studs and the other anti studs so you can connect them.

Actually, it’s a highly sophisticated interlocking brick system!

;)

By in France,

Well. 130 € here : it is the price for a branded good pair of technical sport pair of shoes.
So it's OK for that point, even if to me famous brands tend to overprice their products. But this is another debate. Here, well... It's not my own taste. As mentioned before, they are too garish (if it is the good word, "bariolées" in French which means many different tones and colours) to my taste, even if I always search and buy bright colours for my sneakers. Too messy you see? But otherwise I guess they will find their own market. Maybe in the future, if they make more sober/to my own taste designs, then that could be a "day one' for me.

By in Australia,

Good luck buying a pair while you battle the shoe-bots who scoop them up to be scalped on eBay later on.

By in Finland,

Ermmmmmmmmmmmm....... as I've said before.... it sure isn't designed for the type of person that visits brickset.com

Gravatar

Yes, the word describes them perfectly!

"L is for LEGO play"
It's also for what a kid in school will be called by other kids when the see them wearing these.

Maybe I’m just slow, but I’m trying to think of what a kid in school might be called that starts with L. All I got is “Loser.” Is it Loser? I suppose being called a Llama might also be a derogatory name used in some parts of the world.

By in United Kingdom,

The more I see of them the more I like them, I think they’ll be quite difficult to get as everywhere stocking them in the UK seems to be having Raffles to buy, but it depends on stock numbers. I believe they will come with red, blue and green laces in addition to the yellow ones in the pictures.

Now trying to decide whether to enter multiple raffles to try and get a pair, I’m not sure if I’ll be more disappointed if I don’t get a pair or if I end up with 5 pairs.

By in United Kingdom,

Disappointed that there are lots of other ZX 8000 standard trainers on the Adidas website. I think it will take more than just a blue heel, red eyelets, yellow laces and red Lego label to convince me that these are something different which designers spent months on. Does anyone know what 'interchangeable LEGO brick lace jewels' are? Hoping for more than hollow round 1x1 bricks?

Oh the poor bricks!
They’re getting stepped on!

‘Bariolé’ is usually translated as ‘multi-coloured’ but ‘variegated’ might do even though that’s more often used in botany.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I find the AFOLs commenting on the cost of these shoes ironic. "$130 for a pair of shoes?! My shoes only cost $45!"

Couldn't someone say the same thing about our Lego hobby? "$400 for a plastic toy!?" Collecting shoes is big hobby for many.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I would buy a pair eventually

Gravatar
By in Brazil,

To be used in Brazil's Carnival, which takes place in February or March, depending on the year, it is great for this costume use. I agree with the opinions that it could be a little discreet, not so much color, a sneaker more for children, but as an adult I would wear it with less colors.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I have to admit, these would be understandable as an item that is cheaper, marketed at kids, and in kids sizes. But, for adults--I wouldn't be caught dead wearing the things. Nearly all my shoes are solid black or brown, except my New Balance sneakers, which are black/white/silver with a yellow/black/gray sole.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I think the fact that most AFOLs don’t like them is a sure fire sign they will sell out fast. We aren’t the target market, it’s about expanding brand awareness, beyond the current demographic.

Collecting is an affliction that can easily be refocused if something peaks interest In something different.

Gravatar
By in Russian Federation,

They look awful.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

While it would be cool am always wary of buying shoes without trying them on. In the past have found Adidas on the narrow side for my feet.

Gravatar
By in Norway,

There's something seriously wrong when the random bricks in the background has a nicer and more coherent palette than the shoes themselves.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I'd wear them. But my big feet will probably not find a pair and I won't actively look for them. So I leave them to the sneaker collectors.
