Even Lego must be questioning their marketing strategy when this has "18+" on the box.

To be able to afford it, you’re likely 18+.

NZ$220 ouch!

120$ isn't all that expensive... Someone below 18 could easily afford such a set if he saved some money for it.

I do not believe there is any legit excuse for a set based on a TV Show for toddlers to be rated 18+.

By in United Kingdom,

The 18+ used to refer to the complexity of the build, e.g. a 3000+ modular building where only an 18+ would have the patience to do all the mosiac floor and paving tiles on the base plate, and the intricate snot techniques for the windows and gabled roofing. As this is more a creator style build I'm sure a 9+ could build. This marketing strategy may backfire if lots of parents go into a toy store and buy something else when they see the 18+?

I’m finding the endless complaints about 18+ and black box branding a little tiresome nowadays. We get it. It is what it is.

And at the end of the day, what does it matter? No one is throwing away the bricks and playing with the box. All that matters is what’s in the box, and this is one fine looking set I’m keen to get my hands on.

On the 18+ branding: Lego Elf Clubhouse was delivered on Friday. I pointed out to my wife that’d be nice for my eldest (almost 7) to help put it together this year. She’s had (almost) no issues with 12+ sets this year. My wife suspiciously pointed to the 18+ and said “really?”. The fact that this is the same complexity as years past was lost on her.

$200 Australian?

I could buy a lot of things for two hundred dollars. I love the look of the set, but that's an easy, easy pass.

Maybe The Lego Movie contributed to creating the 18+ brand - there’s a scene where the kid uses the age on the box as an argument that he should take over his dad’s Lego ;(

All D2C sets are 18+ now, id assume its a marketing thing to be like. "See?!?!?! We may be making toys but this toy by us is for Adults!!!!" in hopes of getting more people to become AFOLS.

While the 18+ is weird, I personally like the Box Design, makes it look more "Deluxe"

Though both are really unfitting for a Sesame Street set

Ernie and Bernie is definetly the high point of this set for me. But, I cannot justify buying this set just for them.

Anyone elses OCD kicking in with Oscar in the wrong place?
He was always on the right hand side of the stairs.

He is on left side since season 46.

The more I look at this set, the more I find it a little bit bland. I’m referring to the tan coloured house... which I know is true to the tv show, but still...

I want to love it, but it’s just not happening. Maybe I’ll love it at 25% discount!

Agreed 100%...

I'm more concerned with boxes that indicate 0-99...

What will I do when I turn 100?? Lol

You'll pay the same amount for both on bricklink or ebay if you decide to "only" buy them.

Buy the set and keep the bricks for something else...

Mine are en route! Cannot wait to get em in hand. I’m hoping 2 is enough to add what I need to make some moderate adjustments.

This is a set geared towards adult collectors who grew up with this show. This is not a set for kids.

I'm a TFOL and I watched Sesame Street when I was younger. It's okay for LEGO to direct it at someone in particular but don't put it on a box when it is clearly a show for children and is still around now, though not as strong. How many adults nowadays think about Sesame Street daily, weekly, monthly other than seeing something to do with it and saying "Oh, I remember that! That was cool" and returning to what they were doing, whereas kids might think about it "oh I can't wait for today's episode!". I get what LEGO is doing, but it isn't an 18+ set.

But in the end, it's done and doesn't really matter now that the boxes are all made.

Folk moanin at the price again, thing is folks if you want a large set of a few thousand pieces, you gotta pay for it I’m afraid, bricks cost money too, the more you buy the bigger the cost obviously, I’m ftt try on the uk n it works out about £130 I’m told n I’ve paid £250 for sets so that’s cheap to me, I’ll be buying one most definitely, makes me laugh folk complain about prices of large sets, if you don’t want to pay for a large set, don’t complain that you can’t afford it, I can’t afford it but I love it enough to buy it do sod the debts, I’m only here one time n that’s it so I’m gonna collect whatever I can n Sesame Street is part of the collection well going to be anyway
