Next modular building to be revealed on Friday
Posted by Huw,The announcement of the next modular building is the one of the most anticipated events of the year.
LEGO has made it known that it will take place on Friday during a 'Black Friday Showcase' live stream event on Facebook which begins at 10am EST / 3pm GMT / 4pm CET.
We hope to be able to bring you full details and high resolution pictures on the day.
It looks as if Chris McVeigh is the designer, so we should be in for a treat...

I can't wait to see it before *anyone* else!
Can’t wait! When COVID started I bought my first modular (bookshop) and me and my wife loved so much the outlook and the building experience that since then we got all the other modulars since March ( yes, all).
Fingers crossed for a modular Library
Police station would be nice.
Looks like it will be a tall one, based on the lumps in the tarp...
I've never purchased a Modular Building before (unless you count Ninjago City + The Docks), but I do enjoy seeing how they turn out. Not super excited for this one based on the leaks, but if nothing else I'm definitely curious.
So cool that they’re doing it this way!
Judging by the picture, looks like it peaks taller than the Downtown Diner.
Excellent news, my yearly Lego highlight is the Modular...(although the last 3 have been below par) What else has Chris designed, so we can get a small clue as to how the set may look?
I sincerely hope this has a decently detailed interior.
I absolutely loved the interior detail on sets like Assembly Square, Ninjago City, the Brick Bank and the Parisian Restaurant. Unfortunately, the more recent modulars have very boring, poor interiors by comparison in my opinion.
I didn't buy the bookstore nor the corner garage based on how terrible those interiors are. I want any model to be highly detailed inside, not just a fancy shell with barely anything inside like the early modulars.
Can't wait! It's my one insta-buy of the year every year!
LOL @ the guy elsewhere who was saying he had secret info and that it was a Jaime-designed set.
Promobricks has confirmed what it'll be, for those who don't mind spoilers!
The only plus point about having a January birthday is the annual modular release - my wife doesn’t need to ask what I want anymore, she just buys it and I act (fake) surprised on my birthday.

Seeing as 2020's Modular was a bookshop, 10270, a Library seems a bit too similar.
Wow, a Winter Village set, his own theme, and now a modular ? Go Chris!!!
Well, that'll be an exciting walk home from school on Friday. Can't wait to see what they have in store!
This year I bought my 2 first modular sets - Assembly Square and Downtown Diner, and I love them so much. Wasn't't very impressed by The Bookshop, so hoping for something real great next year.
OOoo so excited! Like a kid at Christmas! I have all the modulars from the beginning so definitely adding this one to the collection!
A Chris McVeigh Modular!!!!??? This is going to be well worth the wait :)
Due to COVID restrictions the modular will be an emergency room. All figures must be socially distanced and wear masks.
With Diagon Alley in the bag, I am anticipating the reveal of the next modular. Not necessarily for purchase, but I still enjoy the modular buildings series. And if it's designed by Chris McVeigh, we might be looking at one of the best modulars yet! Hopefully, they will return to the original face piece for the minifigs, but I am not counting on it . . .
It's either a Police Station or a school.

My condolences to your wallet. Still, pleased you're enjoying them!
Just when you thought Black Friday had drained your wallets.
Judging by the leaks its gonna be a police station. Given all the drama this year around police brutality and the lowering down on police sets from City lineup this choice for modular is very surpising. But hey, it's designed by Chris, it's gonna be awesome for sure!
an ARCADE please!!!!!!

Yeah, it's certainly an awkward time for a police modular. I'm sure if it is a police station, it's been in development for a long time and LEGO decided not to cancel the set. Weird situation for them to be in!
Can’t wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There should be a prize if anyone guesses right, my guesses would be for a pub or a sweet/candy shop!
Confirmed it’s a police station.
Finally, it's my dream set of a modular standard Jabba The Hutt's Palace ;)
Hopefully whatever it is it has a better interior than the last two( which I’ve also skipped... a book store with barely any books?!) and it looks awesome on the exterior. Last good modular was the Diner IMO.
Finally some news about the new modular! :-D
Turns out the new set is really just an unsold Corner Garage with a black cloth over it.
Oooooooooh!!!! Fan-Dabby-Dozy!!!!! Can't wait :0)
I hope it comes with a car.
Even with all the amazing "18+" sets coming out lately the modulars still stand out as something special to me, because they offer such a rich and layered experience.
The building process full of clever tricks. The wondrous and recognizable miniature building you get as a result. The stories they hint at. The way they connect together and evolve over the years. They're interesting up close or from afar, they offer something short term and long term.
Always one of the LEGO highlights of the year. This time around I'm curious to see if/how LEGO's new adult targeting will affect the line. Will they do more or go bigger? Will it stay the same? They aren't as restricted as they were before, so I can see them trying some really new things.
Like so much in TLG's lineup in recent years, even my once beloved Modulars have imho shown a downward trend. The BB was the first Modular that didn't thrill me as much as the ones that came before. The DD did little for me and the CG was the worst before the BS last year (which incidentally was the first Modular I didn't even buy anymore). So hopefully this new one will be able to wow again, but somehow I am sceptical.
From Promobricks: "Because if you look at the meta data for the YouTube video, there is talk of a “Lego modular build”, a “Lego designer interview” and a “Lego police station”. LEGO noticed its “own leak” this morning and deleted the relevant metadata, but by then it was too late. Corresponding screenshots have been making the rounds since yesterday evening...The joy of a new modular building in the form of a police station should be great. There is already a fire brigade station, as well as a gas station and a detective's office - so a police station fits in perfectly. According to rumors, the set price will be 199.99 euros. The police station itself is not supposed to be a modern building, but rather a multi-story building in the classic style, which adapts to the previously published modular building sets."
Fingers crossed for classic smiley faces.

Perhaps you could try using more acronyms next time so we stand no chance of understanding what you're on about :)
Interesting. BB is one of my favourite modulars. I like the classicism and the laundromat very much. It took me a while to get used to DD. It felt like a corner building (and that's where it ended up in my line-up) and the car is hideous. Took me over a year to finally buy CG, which I felt was a bit bland. So, colourful BS was a pleasant surprise. Huge fan of the birch tree which I "stole" for my Corona park/main square project.
Really hoping it’s not a modernish police station - want a 60s/70s cop show building with a nice old fashioned bull pen, big mutton chops and afros

BB Bottom bracket?
DD Dungeons and dragons?
BS B****t?
If it is indeed a police station, here’s hoping for an Andy Griffith style building...

Agreed! With all due respect, it would also take less time to type them all out than it would take every reader of the comment to decode what they mean! ;) I also tend to think of them as one-word names, so I first have to remember that the Diner is officially the “Downtown Diner” and then figure out the DD abbreviation. The official names, let alone the initials, mean very little to me.

Just to help those not super familiar with the acronyms:
TLG : The LEGO Company
BB : 10251 Brick Bank
DD: 10260 Downtown Diner
CG : 10264 Corner Garage
BS : 10270 Bookshop
IMO.. BB is VG, DD is BS, CG is a C-, and BS is OK...
Let's not talk about any supposed leaks. It's a good way to ruin somebody else's day.
Will be getting it whatever it turns out to be. I'm still after the 1st four Modular's and, considering their prices on eBay, this new one will be an absolute snip by comparison!
Supposedly this will be streamed on Youtube, which is great for those of us who would rather kiss a truckstop toilet than load Facebook on our computers.

Not much to see there at the moment, since he's a new hire. The first four are based on range of MOCs he did before, plus he's famous for publishing ornament designs every holiday season. For some of his other designs, you can check this out:

@Your_Future_President :
You know, they've only done one minifig with a surgical mask (S6 Surgeon), and what little you can see is clearly a female face (eyelashes). I bet that would actually be popular. I used my only spare to make a woman pushing a shopping cart full of toilet paper, and another woman is chasing her down with money in her hand. I've also got a guy wearing a Ninjago bandana pushing a wheelbarrow full of more TP, and both of them are on our fifth and final layout of the year at The Henry Ford Museum.
@ambr :
You mean a pub that serves beer, wine, and hard liquor? Um...

I'm not sure that's appropriate for this site!
"the CG..."
I?
"the BS... "
Well, we've long known how you really feel...
I’m still holding out for a Museum, but never mind, maybe in 2022.
Bookshop didn’t thrill me as others have previously, but it’s still a great theme for us adults, so I’m looking forward to a cop shop or whatever it is we get revealed this week.
All the modular acronyms hilariously misunderstood:
Closed Captions, MicroSoft, Good Game, FaceBook, General Electric, Post Script, TH...x?, Politically Correct, Public Relations, Doctor of Osteopathics, BB [gun], Associate in Sciences, Dunkin' Donuts, Computer Generated, BullS***

I usually highly respect your posts, but honestly, those abbreviations have been used so many times before by so many people both here on Brickset as well as any other AFOL site that they appear to be common knowledge.
Also, going by the timeline on my post, it should be even clearer what I meant.
But sorry, my bad, so here, let me spell it out, for a LEGO novice like yourself and @PurpleDave ;-)
BB = Brick Bank
DD = Downtown Diner*
CG = Corner Garage
BS = Bulls..., no, Book Store of course
So next year's apparently is going to be PS...
*Actually, whenever I read DD in other posts about the Downtown Diner, my first thought always was Dagobert Duck (Scrooge McDuck for English speaking people), as DD were the huge letters on the outside his gigantic money pit building in the German (or rather Italian going by their origin) version of the famous Disney comic publications sold here like "Lustiges Taschenbuch", "Donald Duck" or "Micky Maus". I even built an Entenhausen (Duckburg) MOC as a kid.

Going by news images from the US this past year, chaos is indeed a word that springs to mind when I think of "Police".
And no, that is not meant to be ironic or sarcastic!
I really hope they do a Museum as well. Even if it ends up being larger like Assembly Square. Otherwise I'd like to see some form of Post Office, that'd fit great in a city covered in red mailboxes!
@Norikins :
Seeing them in chronological order, and with a little help from this thread, I've been able to figure out all but FB, TH, and PC. Not bad for someone who doesn't care about Modulars*. I mean, some of them have nice parts, which I do care about...
@AustinPowers :
*If I just wanted to know what they meant, it's pretty easy to just look up the Modular sets and find the ones that match. I figured I'd put a little more effort into it, though.
The real question is are they gonna force integrate the new baseplate system.

The ones you are missing are Fire Brigade, Town Hall, and Palace Cinema.
I am pleased that they are allegedly releasing a modular police station. I am grateful for the amazing job that the overwhelming majority of police officers do for our communities. So too are a majority of Americans: a recent Harvard CAPS-Harris poll of registered voters found that 68 percent of respondents had a favorable view of the police and only 24 percent had an unfavorable view.
While we are always dying to know about new releases, Brickset often already knows what they are but has been such a good secret keeper all these times.

They'd annoy almost everyone, so I hope this is a non-issue.
So the day I've been dreading for years has finally came (or most likely will come this Friday), the day of the modular police station. It's actually surprising it took them so long, given we got the Fire Brigade over a decade ago. I guess I've been solidly in the "defund the police" camp since long before it was cool, even when playing the original SimCity I tried my best at making successful cities with few or no police stations.
Of course we have to see how it turns out, but I'm a little worried it will be a bit on the grey side. When thinking "classic police station" I think of a massive stone building with a wide staircase flanked with globe-shaped lamps, and very little color. Then I'll have to see if it can be modded into something else (never liked the "Town Hall" theme either, so I made it into a university), as a last resort I'll maybe turn it into some "Keystone Cops" theme.
I would much rather see a school, museum, or a hospital than a police station, especially if it's as big as it looks under that tarp. We'll see I guess!
So if it is a police station, there go half the wishes on the rumour thread, library will probably be the second in line for most wanted, or museum.

Or, a bit groundbreaking I know, don't buy it.
I really want a Pub. If we can’t actually go to one due to lockdown restrictions then at least let me build one while sipping on a few brewskis

That would be really good. The tavern alternate build for 31109 Pirate Ship is great. A modular would be even better!

I imagine they would go with Police Station which is understood around the world rather than Police Precinct. A precinct is an area rather than a building for many English speakers.

PS = Pet Shop
Sjr60 said: Or, a bit groundbreaking I know, don't buy it.
Oh, *please* get off your high horse. Of course, not buying it would be the VERY last resort if it turns out irrecoverably bad (and we're talking Insult On Hoth bad here), but since I've been collecting these since the very beginning, skipping one would be a tough decision to make. That's the "completist's dilemma", sooner or later there will be a product you simply don't like. In my defense I'd say this is the ONLY theme I've bought to completion (at least if you include my bricklinked maersk blue Market Street), the closest second would be Indiana Jones, and even there I skipped several sets (mainly the *awful* Flying Wing, the uninteresting Peril In Peru, Chinchilla Cemetery and the campsite battle).

Yes, we already had so many police sets, and only one hospital in 2018.
@jeloshot:
Rumor is that they'll start including the new road system with the Modular sets. My LUG is firmly invested in the current generation of roadplates, with probably a few hundred straights.
@elisewong18:
If they post information that's still under embargo, they can lose access to advance review copies of sets, get kicked off the Ambassador network, and get shut out of interview opportunities.
@CCC:
In places where the term "precinct" is commonly used, it often refers to both the station/personnel and the territory they cover. Police Department might work, and would still have unique initials. GCPD Station would _also_ have unique initials...
@axeleng:
OW! Sorry, my eyebrow just got tangled in my hair, from raising so high at the hypocrisy. Don't get political in your posts if you don't want someone to give you a snarky reply.
There are rumors every year that it's a police station, and every year it's something different, so I wouldn't take those too seriously. And anyways, this might not be the place to spoil things like that if you've seen legitimate leaks.
Didnt enjoy the Diner, until I saw the 2 that came after it, which I think were very poor. Modular builds should take several days to build the bookshop was finished in an evening and disappointed from the very start of the basement, which cant be seen when complete to the awkward silver birch that looks totally out of place with the other builds.
Hope they've gone back to the fantastic styling and build of Assembly Square with hours of fun, in fact after the bookshop I bought another Assembly Square just to MOC it.
The only thing that could be worse than the bookshop is a COVID closed Charity Shop .
Want I would really want is a modern McDonalds.
LMAO on abbrv LOL
PurpleDave said: "Don't get political in your posts if you don't want someone to give you a snarky reply."
It was really not my intention to get political, I was just trying to sum up my thoughts on the set. As said, I expected a modular police station to show up sooner or later and I really don't complain about that, I'm just hoping it'll turn out so good that I'd buy it anyway.
If the snark had been clearly directed at any political parts of my post I could've accepted that. What annoyed me is that we've seen this attitude over and over - Lego reveals a highly anticipated set, some commenters are disappointed about how it turns out, and then there's always someone who tries to be "clever" by replying with something like "well, no-one is *forcing* you to buy it!". It just feels like such a cheap retort in general, politics or not.
@WarriorFan:
Seriously? In my entire life, I can think of only one official set that I was unable to finish building before going to bed on the day I opened it, and that's the first UCS MF. Took me a combined 18-3/4 hours over about a day and a half because of the terrible bag sorts they used at the time. I haven't popped the seals on my copy, but I doubt the new UCS MF will take that long to build because they used numbered bags instead of spreading individual parts out over multiple repeated bags.
@axeleng said:

I think part of it is that there will always be unhappy people that complain. It can be tedious for the vast majority of the fans that don't care about all the nitpicky details. People were complaining at some point that the interior details were unimportant and wanted more Cafe Corners, and then more people complained when there weren't enough interior details in the Bookshop... It's a never ending battle, and unfortunately, the only real solution to that is to support what you want with your wallet. And it's ironic that so many people find ways to complain about a modular toy line such as LEGOs where you can modify everything you want. They even made two movies to push that point across!
@axeleng:
Based on your comment, true or not, it's easy to conclude that the main reason you don't want to buy a Modular police station is that it's police, in which case the response given does feel different than if you were just complaining that you felt the set design was subpar. In any case, Librarian1976 has a point. In the US, at least, there's a very vocal crowd who wants to defund or even disband all police forces. As a whole, the nation does not support this, and it's believed to be one of the main reasons that the DNC lost seats in the House even in reliably blue districts. CHAZ/CHOP in Portland saw over a 500% spike in violent crime, and given the tiny population of that area, just two murders gave it a worse murder per capita rate than any nation on the planet (and nobody was allowed to investigate). Minneapolis, which did actually defund their police force, is now spending $500,000 to bring in outside police forces to help deal with the rising crime rate and citizens who have been demanding more protection. Even predominantly black communities like Detroit have been asking for _more_ police funding, not less.
Look, you can be the folks who disappear outspoken political opponents in the middle of the night, or you can be Sheriff Andy Griffith of Mayberry (if you're not familiar with the show, he makes Sheriff Woody look downright sinister by comparison). Most of the population lives in places that need a police force that falls somewhere in between, but very few live in a place that can survive with no or even minimal police. There are roles they've been asked to fill without any or only minimal training, which would be better served with trained professionals taking over those roles. But there have been studies done that show that the ideal community size is about 150 people, and that it coincides with the number of people the average person is capable of developing and maintaining personal relationships with. Once you see strangers everywhere you look, you lose a vital sense of attachment to the people you see every day. That makes it easier to commit acts that are harmful to others if you benefit from them. It's not a racial thing, either. It happens all over the world, in places where everyone is black, and in places where nobody is.
But I've read a lot of stories over the years about cops being called in to arrest people for shoplifting, only to end up buying the person a ton of groceries after finding out they couldn't afford to feed their kid. I've watched dashcam video from a squad car where the officer driving it carefully positioned it to safely absorb the impact from a drunk driver headed the wrong way on a freeway at speeds well in excess of the speed limit, because he didn't want to let some innocent family (regardless of race) arrange one or more funerals (and I have a coworker who is related to someone who lost his wife and all four of their kids to just such an accident).
You know, 19 years ago, roughly 2000 NYPD officers were called in to help with the World Trade Center evacuations on 9/11. 23 of them never came back out. An additional 37 officers from the Port Authority were lost with them. The youngest of these 60 officers was only 26 and probably could be retiring with a full pension by now if he were still alive. Another officer had just filed his own retirement papers that morning, but that didn't stop him from doing his job. At the time, a common phrase was that they weren't heroes because they came out, but because they went in. Now people are treating them like criminals just for putting on the uniform.
Oooww, that was a long one - is this the time for me to come with a snarky comment? To be short, one of my main gripes are how they've gradually turned from a crime police to a moralism police - focusing too much on nailing otherwise law-abiding citizens for trivial misdemeanors, making many perceive the police as a greater threat than the criminals they're supposed to protect us from. In addition we have the exponential increase of rules and regulations (especially with the illiberal post-9/11 climate) due to the gross imbalance between the effort required to introduce a law vs repealing it.
Seriously, I could write an entire essay about all the issues with "copaganda" and police/government abuse of power, but I really don't think a comment section about an upcoming Lego set is the place for that. It would be hilarious if after this heated debate the set turned out to be a flower shop or something else not relating to police at all.
Woah woah woah, what's with the sudden outpouring of hatred for the latest modulars? CG was a bit of a mess, I'll grant you that, but DD is a magnificent beast with such a cool exterior in particular, as is BS. The interiors are a little below the par of their predecessors, yeah, but when I line up the three I own (PR, AS and DD) as a street, DD is the one that truly grabs my attention.
Well, I totally like the Police Station. Can't wait to replace Fire Brigade with it in my city layout.
@axeleng
You’re not arguing with everyone about an alleged police station are you?
I ask because after a thorough googling the only ‘leaks’ I can find are using images from a Lego Ideas submission from well over 18 months ago.
https://ideas.lego.com/projects/fa5635b2-3b10-42e7-b7cc-027744005b84/updatescontent_nav_tabs
Somebody better call the Fire Brigade to put out this Book Shop....
Actually, forgive me for that joke (though I still can’t resist it). I admire the diversity of opinions represented here and the relatively honest and pleasant debate. There aren’t a whole lot of communities (online especially) where debate remains civil and where diverse viewpoints (and nationalities) are represented. I’m glad the LEGO community isn’t just an echo chamber, and brings lots of people and perspectives together... about politics, about which sets are best, and even about acronyms. ;)
I also like to think that LEGO presents us with an opportunity to make the best possible version of a thing. In my layout, the buildings are beautiful, the politics are fair, the trains run on time, and - hopefully - the police are the best possible version of a public service, too. Oh, and none of the voting machines are made by Octan.
Not remotely important, but related to my previous paragraph (and related to the comment about the ideal community size being 150 people): I don’t like how spread out modern society is, and how necessary cars are, especially in the US and even in cities. So I replaced all of the streets in my layout with canals and bike lanes. Consequently, I don’t mind at all that no police car is included!
@axeleng:
It is long. I edited a _LOT_ of material out, though, especially if it felt like it started getting too political. I didn't lash out at you, nor do I intend to (hopefully it doesn't seem like I did). My comment about snark was because you really did come across as hypocritical when you told someone to "get off his high horse" for making a fairly simple, and increasingly common response, to what was a very politically charged post. My goal was to show you that there's a third side to this story.
@Balthazar_Brannigan:
Oh, I far prefer a horizontal cityscape. Yeah, I put a lot of miles on my car doing shows, but I almost never have to worry about finding a place to park when I get there, I rarely have to pay for parking at all (and when I do, it's usually $5/day), and I can stuff as much material into my car as I need to for the 20+ shows my LUG (usually) does annually.
