Our penultimate holiday gift recommendation, in the > $200 tier, comes courtesy of John_Musketeer:

42115 Lamborghini Sián FKP 37 is quite simply one of the best Technic sets ever produced. At 3,696 pieces, it’s also the 4th largest Technic set, so it does present a challenge in difficulty and in scale. It does have a price tag to match, however, but I do recommend this set to all fans of Lego, Technic fans or not. If the 18+ age rating is appropriate in any set, it’s this one.

The packaging … there’s nothing like it. It’s bold, it’s different, and it works. The bright green definitely catches the eye, and would draw your attention within the black boxes of the Technic aisle. Turned around, you can see the supercar in all its glory, with a glossy finish over the image of the Lamborghini.

Once opened, there are 6 separate boxes which resemble the car’s rear. Below them are the 2 instruction manuals, side by side, which each show a half of the Sián. The build is divided into bags 1-5, each with 7, 9, 8, 10 and 8 respectively, along with 3 unnumbered bags, totalling in 45 bags.

As Huw put it in his review, “LEGO is a premium product and Lamborghini is a premium brand, … so to me it seems right that it does something special for it.” The first 28 pages are devoted to information about and images of the Lamborghini, akin to UCS sets, a sign of its quality.

Following the (improved) suspension is the gearbox, which is always complex. The colourful gears help to differentiate between them, whilst unlike its blue predecessor, it’s built in sections. It’s even possible to change gears. The V12 engine, although seemingly not as complex as the W16 engine featured in the Chiron, is just as impressive to build. There is a panel which can be removed to expose the engine and the rear suspension, though it covers it up seamlessly. Red, white and green tiles on either side of this panel resemble the Italian flag.

As you would expect, there is functional steering in this set, and it’s spoiler (which was one of the most fun parts to build) can be raised and lowered via a beam in the passenger seat. The techniques used to build both the brake lights and headlights are ingenious, whilst the bonnet can be lifted up to reveal an unusual tradition: a small bag. The front of the car is particularly exceptional, as each of the front corners converge to a point

If you turn the car to see its base, the gearbox is visible, whilst seeing the base of the Lamborghini alone is nice to admire. Also, the gold wheels are striking, yet not out of place, whilst 1x1 round tiles with a Lamborghini emblem are placed at the centre of each wheel. A name plaque is the final touch, another sign of its quality and a similarity to UCS sets.

Last but certainly not least is the scissor-wing doors. If the angular shaping or the raging bull eluded you, this would signal to you that this is a Lamborghini. They can be raised via a beam, and constructing them, knowing that they will be the scissor-wing doors, is one of the best parts of the build.

And for comparison’s sake, here’s an image of the Sián and the Chiron, with a 501st clone trooper for scale.

For the >$200 category in 2020, my recommendation is definitely 42115 Lamborghini Sián FKP 37. I wrote at the beginning that even those who aren’t fans of Technic would be able to enjoy this set, which is true if you are willing to build the 4th largest Technic set over a number of days. Oh, and there’s not a single sticker.

IWOOT is selling it for £239.99 - £110 off. It's not my thing, but that is a bargain if it was.

By in United Kingdom,

Technic lends itself to the shape of a Lamborghini, so it's my favourite of the super cars so far. If I didn't already love this set, @JohnMusketeer would of swayed me!

I too managed to grab this from John Lewis for £239.99 which I thought was good, but on Tuesday this week I saw it flag on Amazon for a crazy low £199.99 which Almost tempted me to buy another for resale.

By in United Kingdom,

Thank you for the photo with the Chiron, as they have around the same number of pieces its interesting to see the different profiles. Surprised they have discounted it so much, and just before Christmas to the same price as the 1 year older Chiron!

By in United States,

I was on Zavi's website and it was priced at $89 USD. Had to be a mistake but proceeded to purchase it anyways. Got an email the next day from Zavi stating it was an mistake but they would honor the order. Received it in 3 days from the UK to US in perfect condition. Shipping was only $4.99.

By in Netherlands,

Do the Porsche rims fit? I like this car much better than previous top models like the Porsche and the ugly Bugatti, but those rims.... they are really nasty.
