Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 19

Posted by ,

Hoth has appeared repeatedly within Star Wars Advent Calendars during the past ten years and returned again yesterday. Another model based upon Hoth seems probable today.

Let's see whether the icy theme continues...

Star Wars features copious interesting animals, including some which have appeared in Advent Calendars. This rendition of a hardy Tauntaun looks splendid. The design is remarkably intricate and incorporates various significant features of the onscreen animals, including the curved horns, broad tail and a reddish brown 1x1 tile which forms the saddle.

The scale has prevented the designer from including separate legs or articulated arms, although they are cleverly represented by a single 1x1 clip. The head can move, raising and lowering on a hinge. The red nose looks rather odd but is certainly festive and could be replaced with a dark tan element if you prefer accuracy over festive fun! The absence of eyes is unfortunate but I cannot envisage how they could have been included.

Overall - 4.5 - This charming model captures the most distinctive characteristics of the Tauntaun and introduces something particularly unusual to this Advent Calendar!

By in Netherlands,

That's one weird looking Christmas turkey.

By in Poland,

Rudolph the red-nosed tauntaun!

By in United States,

Took me a minute to realize the red stud was supposed to be a red nose. I thought this was some sort of nightmarish robo-tauntaun!

By in France,

HOW is this great? Why is there this odd red nose? I really think it's a shame they didn't include a real Tauntaun.

I love this days build!

Aw, poor tauntaun had its nose slashed off by a wampa... Someone get it a bandage!

By in United States,

The tauntaun is dressed up as a seasonal character (Rudolph), much like Poe and D-O before him, and a couple more characters next week too.

I really feel they missed the mark by not including a hinge feature to put a nanofigure Luke in the belly.

By in United States,

I know this is tricky, but I wish there were a more consistent size in the microscale models. The Snowspeeders are too big to scale against the Echo Base builds; the Tauntaun is too big for the snowspeeders.

Oh well. I guess they're Star Wars toys for the minifigures?

Very imaginative build, I rather enjoyed this one. What really struck me though was how balanced the whole thing is - the designer did a great job of keeping the centre of gravity in mind while building up vertically. :)

They wouldn't let poor Rudolph join in any tauntaun games...

So...anyone else mistakenly get a 2nd Millennium Falcon instead of this majestic beast?

Psst, secret lifehack: if you remove the red stud, you can have your "real" Tauntaun

Yeah, it's too bad really. I don't think any two builds in the calendar are in scale with each other at this point.

By in Colombia,

Today's door also includes an "A" on the design. Does this mean that this model is 1/x ?

The 'A' is the sixth letter of the now obvious 'secret' code included with the set that unlocks a minifigure in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

Hey @CapnRex101, just wanted to point out that only today's Advent Countdown posts are showing up on the front page even if you've got the category ticked i n your news preferences

By in Ireland,

I had no idea what I was building until I put it all together!! I would like to think this was because of the ingenuity of the designer but maybe not!! Still when the eureka moment came it was worth it! I am truly enjoying this year's Advent calendar.

Yes, that is intentional. Advent Countdown articles from the day before are automatically removed from the homepage when new ones are published to avoid the page becoming totally dominated by those articles when visitors are looking back through previous days.

The previous Advent Countdown articles are still accessible by viewing that category in the news archive: https://brickset.com/news/category-Advent-countdown

Easily re-kerjiggered into a baby tauntaun if anyone wants to build a tauntaun nursery ;)

@Orange_Jooze:
Besides falling off the front page when the next day is posted for the same calendar, the comments section also gets locked. I'm not sure when the comments for the 24th get locked, if it's the following morning or if the last set get left open until activity dies down. Out of necessity, if you ask a question late on one day, you might find answers slipped into the comments on the next day.

Re-kerjiggered you say?

What a fun word.

This might be even better if some of those bley parts were included in tan.
