New Zealand consumer catalogue reveals more 2021 sets
Posted by Huw,
LEGO has published various versions of next year's catalogue, including one for New Zealand.
There are a number of hitherto unseen sets due for release in March revealed in it, the most interesting of which you will find images of after the break.
Thanks to whung for the news.

The Ninjago sets and space Mech are excellent.
Oh wow, are those Lego Games dice?
That Creator mech looks amazing.
Ok that brick built giraffe is gorgeous.
Islanders x Ninjago? Looks incredible. Love the Thunder Keeper's mask.
I'm liking the giraffe, but those sea turtles look a little nightmarish.
Yeah definitely getting an islander vibe from the new Ninjago sets!
Working escalator in the Friends shopping mall!
I told myself I would stick to getting just the modular and ninjago city gardens for the first few months of the year but darn it lego brings out awesome set after awesome set. RIP my wallet once again

Those were just 2x2 studs on each side...

LEGO dice had 3x3 stud surfaces, these appear to be 5x5.... mega dice!!

LEGO dice were 2x2, and these are 3x3. Plus, there's the loop on the back that the old part doesn't have.
Ummm, mammatus clouds are so named because they look like hanging mammary glands. Someone is either asleep at the wheel or having a little fun naming ninjago characters
The biggest Minecraft set is a Minecraft Earth Set
I'm assuming by "most interesting", you were specifically referring to the Thunder Keeper and his new tiki mask, or the Ninjislander sub-theme in general. If you weren't, just go with it anyways, because I feel like you'll be outvoted on this one.
That Creator treehouse will pair nicely with the safari jeep from this year. DIY Safari City subtheme.
Still a big mystery on the big Ninjago Set. The $300 one. Can’t wait to see that one.
This one also answers to the mysterious Ninjago Village too.
interesting how we are seeing sets for a march release now, but still no word on the ninjago city gardens. anyone got any info? its meant to release jan 1st
The dice are bigger than Lego Games dice (3x3 side instead of 2x2).
Huh... no new Speed Champions?
Interesting to see the 42095 Power Functions RC Stunt Racer in there, as I thought all Power Functions were being discontinued in favour of the new Powered Up components.
The Technic excavator looks nice, as do the Creator mech, safari and beach house.
So lets see here:
Epic new Creator mech
Adorable Dots cubes
A Gekko-like Ninjago Dragon
A Minecraft Moobloom
Looks like some awesome additions!
Glad to see that Minecraft Earth stuff is worming it's way into the toys like Dungeons did, but kinda surprised Story Mode never did back in the day.
Actually I'm just now noticing it's not just the Moobloom in that set, there's lots of Earth mobs!
The jungle theme for Ninjago seems great. I can't quite tell what the villains are from this trailer, but they look like a combo of the Gleckles from the last wave and the Snake Army that were originally going to be the villains of the Movie.
Im very surprised it was our Kiwi friends across the ditch that received images of these new sets, normally ANZ is always left out and the last to know and receive anything.
Haven't heard much from Architecture 2021....
Wow, that shopping mall set! I would love to have a LEGO City version.

And normally when I see these, they are non-English, so this is a bit of a surprise.
Really like those new Ninjago sets. The Jungle Chopper bike looks mediocre, but has good minifigures. The Jungle Dragon looks so good. The teal and gold color scheme is really unique and I love it. Keeper's Village is by far the best. Really neat build with excellent figures. I notice they used the marvel power blast piece in orange for the flowing lava which is so smart. The Catamaran Sea Battle is good. I love the villain boat but why are we getting another Kai vehicle? We get so many! I'm sick of it! This should have been a boat for Nya.
The new ninja Minifigures look cool, but I'm bummed we didn't get another hairpiece for Nya. I'm not entirely sure about this, but it kind of looks like they reused the S11 legs for Zane for the third time. If that's the case I don't know what to say. Just put them out of production already! That would be the fourth Zane figure to use them.
Anyone else notice Jay is always the punching bag on the box art? He was in a cage in the City of Stiix set from 2015, the Temple of the Ultimate Ulitmate Weapon from the movie, and last year's Journey to the Skull Dungeons. He's in another cage in the Catamaran set and he's caught in some kind of trap in the Keeper's Village. STOP THE JAY ABUSE
I was so impressed with the recent Minecraft sets lately, and then they did... this. I'm very confused about the First Adventure. Apparently, it's based on Minecraft Earth. Why? Why would you make a set based on a dead game?
And the Warped forest is so disappointing. I like the colors they used, and the Piglins are cool, but the Hoglin looks horrendous. Why is it tan? Hoglins are pink. I don't mind brick built creatures, but they got this one very wrong.
Whoa, Creator keeps delivering.
On the first Creator page, I thought I read, "Spice Mining Mech".
@The_Toniboeh,
I'm hoping for a Neuschwanstein Castle.
Pretty surprised no one has mentioned the blind character in the Friends animal hospital! I don't follow Friends too closely but I believe that's the first blind minidoll? And there haven't been too many minifigs either
Great use of sausages in the safari set. Also like the teal dragon but may have to leave the tongue out.
@fakespacesquid:
There have been several minifigs over the years that have lost sight in one eye (mainly pirates and other genre villains), but I can't think of any that are completely blind. There is one coming up, though. One of the next wave of City sets includes a rigid harness for a seeing eye dog. Minidolls lose out, though, as they'd need to be able to rotate their wrist to grab the handle.
For those wondering about NINJAGO City Gardens, that set is the biggest reveal of them all. I do expect it to be revealed no later than mid month. It will most likely be in the same range as the other two Mega Sets. It'll probably be the last reveal. I for one can't wait to see its reveal when the time does come.
On a note from early here too, as far as reveals go, still no update on Speed Champions.
Yeah, I'm definitely worried about speed champions now. I hope it's not gone, especially so soon after a scale change, and with an increasing number of manufacturers willing to work with the company on other themes.
It has had a good run for sure, but if this is the end I'd be more accepting if 2020 hadn't heralded a bright new chapter in the line. The 8 wides are good, but they're a shelf of freaks if they remain so vastly outnumbered by the 6 wide cars.
BLAST FROM THE PAST!! The heartlake city shopping mall has the harry potter moving stairs from the early 2000s!!
@CaptainCalamari:
There's a 2-page spread of Ninjago sets missing, which includes vehicles for Zane, Cole...and Kai again. And a tiny little one for Jay. There's also Golden Ninja minifigs spread across the sets which suggest there may be at least one more page missing for Ninjago, as there's an image showing positions for six, but only four are identified at the bottom of the pages.
@Sandinista:
Harry Potter had escalators?
Put me down for one swarm of teal derp-dragons please.
@fakespacesquid - that would be the first blind minidoll. Good catch!
I'm all about that working escalator in the mall set. Love the safari set too.
Am I the only curious about Vidiyo, whatever that is?
@PurpleDave said:
" @Sandinista:
Harry Potter had escalators?"
No. I believe the yellow stairs in the top corner were introduced in different colors in the Harry Potter theme then, though they have appeared recently in other Friends sets, the Elves theme, and many other mini - doll based themes.
No trains :(
So once again, Ninjago is the bright spot in what looks like it's going to be a rough year.
I don't much care for the Creator stuff, even the space mech. I'm still umming and arring about the lion.
But I want that teal dragon. And some of the boat stuff, too.
I love the Shopping Street set, as well, but those damn road plates are just going to jack up the price.
Vidiyo, Hmm interesting
@HandPositions:
Ah, yeah, that's probably it. But it's not like they've ever really gone out of production. They were introduced in 2001, then skipped all the odd years from 2002-2012, after which they had a constant run up through last year.
@MeganL said:

It piques MY interest -- I don't see a single Lego brick-like object in the photo. Looks like another foray into something digital / creative?

I think Story Mode was left out because (if I remember correctly) it was not actually from Mojang.

The one that springs to mind for me is Vitruvius from TLM, as he loses his sight in the first scene.
Hang on ... in the new city sets, the crooks are now using personal portable submarines?
Machines which would cost more money than they could even steal from banks?
That doesn't seem effective.
@BovineBrick :
He seemed to have the ability to see with magic, as was probably the case with the Mouth of Sauron. For simplicity's sake, we should probably rule out skeletons.
@Zordboy:
If you think about it, it never made sense for supervillains to steal money, either. What are they going to buy with it, when all they do is steal stuff anyways? The Dark Knight actually played into that problem when Joker burns the massive pile of money, saying that he has no need of it.

Yeah, I know, all the Legacy sets were revealed about 2 weeks ago (except for the 4+ set). Apparently the golden Zane and Nya will release in a second Legacy wave in the summer which seems very probable.
Well, the sets look good, basically the same quality as last year, although we don't know the prices (and we know at least a few of them will probably be overpriced, though)
Vidiyo looks super cringe (especially with that tongue clip art), looks like a disco ball you put on the floor the plays music and reflects lights. The QR just leads to a Lego.com 404 page.
The Ninjago sets are well designed, and the catamaran set gives off Fire vs. Ice Chima vibes. However the "evil islanders" theme looks like a publicity disaster waiting to happen. I've heard people on here say that Lego will never bring back the Pirates Islander/Western Indians subthemes because they would be nowadays viewed as insensitive. But now in 2021:
Nobody, literally nobody:
Lego Ninjago: EVIL PURPLE-SKINNED S @VAG3$!!!
Of course, I'm just overexaggerating for humor in that meme there. The actual story in the show will likely be much more nuanced, but over a decade in the viewership has greatly decreased and the average consumers (i.e. parents and children) are more likely to take Ninjago products at face value. Adding fuel to the fire is the fact that the Ninja of Ninjago are of course Japanese inspired, and their fantasy conflict with these purple-skinned natives brings to mind Japanese imperial expansion and subjugation in the Pacific prior to World War 2. Given the litigious backlash over Bionicle merely using Maori vocabulary which resulted in LEGO losing and having to rename the sets, this brazen Ninjago wave seems like suicide. This wave has extremely worrying potential to get cancelled so hard both literally and figuratively. Things look grim for Ninjago; we just lost Kirby Morrow and now there's a publicity typhoon brewing. If Lego are so overly sensitive to cancel the Osprey, how was the Ninjago team even allowed to merely SUGGEST this villain concept for 2021, let alone make it real??!
I recall being somewhat worried the Tournament of Elements cultists might offend some, but thankfully they didn't. In fact, the in-universe story was hilarious: Master Chen and his human snake-wannabe cultists' appropriation of Anacondrai culture disgusted Pythor so much he joined forces with the good guys! Again, for this 2021 wave in season (14? losing count!) there will likely be a similarly satisfactory justification. But like I said before, the audience has declined, because much of the show's original target age audience are now adults who have "grown out of it" and any new viewers who want to get truly invested in the story have a decade to catch up on, given the show's serial nature. Not to mention 2014 was a much more politically relaxed time. Now since the TV series comes out so late in the US, the biggest Ninjago market, there will be no time for any context to be shed on the how and why of these evil-looking islanders. It will be too little, too late. Things seem pretty grim for Ninjago.
On a more positive (that is, bittersweet, but bittersweet is so much better than the worrying Ninjago situation) note, the Minecraft Mooblooms make a surprise appearance. Too bad we won't get them in the game, and instead a stupid "glow" squid that won't actually emit light. Stupid Glow Squid. Nowadays people vote on even Minecraft mobs like blind sheep, without actually looking at the facts.

There's No-Eyed Pete from Ninjago, although only in the show. But given we're getting figures of the remaining elemental masters, it definitely seems possible to see more of Captain Soto's crew.
I love the technic excavator! I don’t know if that has been revealed already, but it’s the first I’ve seen of it. I’m so excited to see a smaller model that doesn’t appear to be too expensive.
I'm liking the totem-style stacked-heads jungle villain, but I don't know what's between the heads or why. It looks like that would reduce the clutch between the heads, no? It's cool to see a return of the spooky island theme, but I hope they've done their part to keep it properly distant from real cultures.
@Norikins :
The LEGO Company didn't "lose" anything that I recall, regarding the complaints about misuse of Maori terms. They conceded, with conditions. They agreed to specifically drop the use of the word Tohunga, which they changed to Matoran. They also agreed to never use any new Maori words, but anything else that had already been incorporated into the theme was left alone. I believe some of the Matoran names had to be changed under these new, self-imposed rules, because they had never been released in sets before, and the names originated through sources like the Mata Nui Online Game.
Now, if they'd outright refused to comply, they might have been targeted with a cyberattack like what happened to a certain fansite. It's possible they would have been sued, but maybe only in New Zealand.
@8BrickMario:
There's not a lot of clutch between stacked minifig heads. It looks like a collar-type element (like the bandanas the main characters are wearing) where the base of the head fits completely through the hole rather than resting on the collar element itself. Adding that may provide a little more stability to keep the upper head from popping loose with the slightest nudge.
I'm wondering what this Vidyo line is? It had better be LEGO related.

There was Chirrut Imwe from the Rogue One subtheme in Star Wars.

Well how do you know they bought them... being crooks and all :)

I had the same thought about the power functions. I guess that set will stick around for another year to cover the budget motorised set. Maybe they're waiting to reach economy of scale with Powered Up before offering a lower cost set, or maybe release the M motor from the Mindstorm range in a budget Powered Up set.
The excavator looks like a nice small scale set. Mini linear actuators and the smaller track links
The new ninjago sets are really tempting.
Thankfully there’s nothing else that really interest me.
The adult range is only mentioned on page 91. So I guess that either that most of the most interesting stuff has been omitted from this catalogue. Wonder if Lego would actually make a separate truly attractive glossy brochure for adults ;-)
and yet again the "girly" themes hooked my interest up more than the "boyish" ones, because of cool parts - the 3x3 dice and the working escalator!
I wish City sets had similar interesting things...
@CaptainCalamari yeah, I don’t get this wave either. The theme SCREAMS water, yet Nya doesn’t get the boat, the bike, or the dragon, and only appears in one set. Meanwhile Kai gets his second boat and Lloyd gets two sets, including his SIXTH dragon counting the Movie and Legacy ones. As for Jay, well, abuse is to be expected when the only Ninja who appears in more sets than you is Kai.
It’s the villains I feel more sorry for: only four figures, though I suppose Master of the Mountain really only had four, two of whom were dressed up with different accessories. None appear to be female; here’s hoping the show doesn’t give us any that aren’t decently dressed again. Just two villain builds as well, and no apparent allies for the Ninja this time around.
Although beach homes have appeared before this surfer home still looks very cool and made more interesting by the alternative light house or swimming pool house so on my list.
Glad to see a return to non-motorized Technic construction equipment at the entry level to interest kids in mechanics. Unless the designers have done something clever the 'heavy' duty excavator is missing a 3rd actuator for the bucket and looks light in comparison to previous versions.
Disappointed that the minecraft mine does not use the roller-coaster pieces as could have had some fun expanding the track into previous sets.
A 3 level shopping mall with no lift, not very helpful for daddy with the pram. Hopefully the toy shop is on the ground floor otherwise the boy is going to be disappointed.
nice Mortal Kombat emblem in set 71747.
jungle dragon looks dissapointing...

It's two completely different pair of shoes - one is a consumer catalogue with everything you can buy in regular toy shops, the other is an exclusive set that is always revealed as late as possible and with much fanfare. So hang in tight!
Creator seems to be the most consistently innovative and original theme, but I guess that's the very nature of the theme.
Was amazed at how many pages of Friends there was, must be doing well.
Has anyone scanned the QR code for Vidiyo? I remember early DOTS promo stuff barely featuring any lego as well.
The Ninjago minifigure line is just about the most impressive thing there is about Lego.

I think that Lloyd and Nya will share the Jungle Dragon in the show. It's teal, so it's a combination of their colors. Based on preliminary info, Lloyd and Nya will be the most prominent characters next season.
Lego doesn't like making explicitly Nya sets but usually incorporates her into them. Nya sets won't sell well among younger fans but I know a lot of older ones (myself included) would like to see some. The Ninja Tuner Car set that released at the beginning of this year was Nya's vehicle in the show but she wasn't included in it.
So I'll be reasonably happy if the Jungle Dragon is shared between Lloyd and Nya. It's a smart way of marketing for LEGO, and it will the only Nya themed build since 2017 other than the aforementioned Tuner Car and the Legacy Samurai Mech.
Two new Extra DOTS series in two months?! I can't keep up! But those bag tags look cool, I might pick up 41928.
11013 Creative Transparent Bricks might as well be a call back to 4119 Regular and Transparent Bricks, which I own. I'll need to keep it in mind. But I'm concerned about the PPP ratio.
Not sure why they're making an updated version of 10715 Bricks on a Roll already, but it'll have to be seen how much nicer the new wheels in 11014 are.
60306 Shopping Street looks really nice, and it looks like they've returned to printed sand blue legs for the café employees, which is a little frustrating to me.
@MeganL said:
"Am I the only curious about Vidiyo, whatever that is?"
All that's been publicly revealed is that it's a music-based collab with Universal Music Group, and it will involve media creation and AR.
I like the thunder keeper set. Looks like the classic style of set I remember as a kid.
Just 4 Ninjago sets? This is the end?
^ Catalog images of additional sets are available elsewhere, and Zane's Titan Mech looks awesome! It seems to have bendable knees, and it means that I don't have to (?) MOC up a sand blue version of 70676 Lloyd's Titan Mech. . . .
@CaptainCalamari the show certainly treats Nya better than the sets do.
Love the Mech, the dog bag tag thing, and that Technic hovercraft
@SearchlightRG:
There's only one show. If you don't want the girl character, you can't just walk past that show and pick one that doesn't include her. That is precisely how sets work, though.
Looking at 31118, I really miss the regular kind of 3-in-1 houses. Why do all the houses these days have to be something like a BEACH house? 7346, 31035, 31048, 31051, and 31063 are other examples of something VERY similar to this. I don't want my town to have this much waterfront property!
Can't we just have regular houses like we did around 10 years ago with 4954, 4956, 6754, 5891, 5771, or 31012 that are nice moderately sized houses with some yard space? Enough with little shacks that are crammed onto tiny plates. I blame the lack of baseplates in sets for this trend.
At least 4996 (which is ALSO "Beach House") isn't right on the water so it can easily pass for a regular house.
will the ninjago legacy sets be releasing jan 1st in the UK?
Lego should make a Ninjago VS Bionicle line.
cool sets
Catalogue link is down it seems
