Valentine's Brown Bear

LEGO has uploaded more images of next year's store exclusive sets to its server, including better ones of those we revealed yesterday, two Xtra polybags, 40453 Batboat The Penguin Pursuit, and 854088 Forbidden City Magnet, which is similar in design to other recent location souvenir magnets.

As noted by someone yesterday, the official images of 40462 Valentine's Bear show the heart the bear is holding has been constructed incorrectly. I thought I was the only one who built things inaccurately before photographing them...

The back of its box shows another seasonal set in the same style, 40463 Easter Bunny. You'll find a photo after the break.

By in Germany,

The bunny is cute and I am happy they finally ditched the Brickheadz!

That is a lot of dynamite in the Batman set, did Walmart have a sale on? :)

And two are attached to the boat... is the Penguin going to suicide bomb? That's not just dark for a Lego set, but out of character for the Penguin.

Brickheadz are great and all, but that bunny looks way better than the Easter bunny Brickheadz.

My new year resolution is to try to keep my Lego purchases under control. As AFOL I am coming more selective every year

I like the bunny :)

I'll be putting that bunny next to my Doomguy action figure.

I like the consistent use of what appears to be a new base for these sets (bunny and bear). I hope they maintain that through the rest of the seasonal sets.

Getting a Harley Quinn for around 12 dollars? Not bad but why is she hanging out with Penguin?

By in United States,

So why does it have Batboat in the name when the only watercraft in it is Penguin's?

@madforLEGO:
I was geeked about the budget Harley, but then I noticed Batman’s torso. That’s the Hush logo, which, aside from special outfits (arctic, electro, etc.) was last seen in 2006 with the first wave of the original Batman theme! Now, the torso is completely new, since it has pouch pockets instead of the bullet tubes, but if they’re revisiting the first bley torso maybe they’ll get back to the 2007 torso as well.

That Batman fig looks like it's from the Arkham Games. Minus the short eared cowl. Definitely picking up that set

The official box shows the same oddity on the front, back and top. Perhaps it's deliberate, although I'm not sure what it's supposed to be if not another heart.

I like the Batman and Penguin Minifigures a lot. Reminds me of my era. Now, if we could just have a UCS 1966 Batmobile...

Perhaps the bear’s heart is broken...

According to lego.com 40453 is 'Batman™ vs. The Penguin™ & Harley Quinn™'

'Batboat The Penguin Pursuit!' is 76158

I happen to be wearing an Arkham Batman logo shirt right now, and I have a Hush Batman logo shirt in my closet. The two are identical in shape, but Hush was published from '02-'03, and the first Arkham game didn't come along until six years later. There are hundreds of different Batman logos, so for two to appear in such quick succession with identical shapes pretty clearly means that one borrowed from the other, just as B:TAS took its Batman logo from Batman Returns, which in turn got it in a roundabout way from the Silver Age Batman (the '89 Batman movie used it for the movie logo, but the Batsuit had a weird triple-tail design that has never been repeated).

Oh cool! I didn't know any of that.

@harveypumpkins:
I actually only found out about the triple-tail design on the first Keaton batsuit sometime in the last decade. I'd actually thought the black batsuit from 2006 was based on his movie appearance until I ran across a graphic that showed every major variation of the batsuit going all the way back to 1939. Turns out the 2006 black batsuit was based on the Troika storyline that immediately followed Bruce Wayne's return to the cowl after the Knightfall storyline. I actually have that run, and don't remember a single thing about it.

For Batman Returns, the batsuit logo was changed to match the Silver Age logo that was used to market both films. The Dark Knight trilogy also got a little goofy with the logos. In Batman Begins, Bruce machines his own batarangs, which are shaped like the logo used to market all three films. The batsuit, however, has a logo that looks a lot closer to the Hush logo (you can see it on the Batman minifig that was included with 76023 The Tumbler). For the next to films, the batsuit adopted the logo that was used to market the films.

This trend was repeated for the DCEU films, where the Batfleck suit has a logo that's loosely styled after the rather imposing design that was featured so heavily in the graphic novel The Dark Knight Returns. Batman v Superman, however, had a logo that combined a bat symbol with Superman's S. But while the S portion of the BvS logo matched the one on Cavill's suit, the bat portion had nothing to do with anything Affleck wore. Since his only other appearances were in Justice League and Suicide Squad, they've never released a film that was marketed under the Batfleck suit logo.

Here's the weird thing. Both this minifig and the 2006 grey Batman have the Hush logo, and the belts sorta match the belt worn at that time (pouch pockets with a plain square buckle), but the Hush batsuit was blue/grey while both minifigs are black/grey. I also looked up the Arkham Asylum batsuit, and while it does have pouches on the belt, the buckle is more ornate, and the logo on the batsuit has seven points across the bottom while the Hush/Arkham logos both have five points. Borrowing a page from the movies, however, the Arkham City batsuit switched to the Hush logo, but otherwise appears unchanged (and looks very close to this Batman minifig). Starting with Arkham Origins, the batsuit shifted radically away, with bulky armor plating that is absent from these two minifigs.
