Pirates of Barracuda Bay!

Diagon Alley!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

My favourite from the list is the Chinese New year temple fair because as soon as I saw images of it I immediately wanted it. Runner up for me was the mos eisley cantina since I’ve always wanted LEGO to make one this size

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

Diagon Alley!!! How come this poll shows the results and the other polls don’t? :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I voted for the NES. Lego could have released something very basic, just the ‘box’ and controller, and people would have been okay with it. But instead there was so much more, from the ‘playable’ screen display to the hidden representation of level 1-2 hidden in the back of the NES. Those are the parts that put this set over the rest. Well done Lego and Happy 2021 everyone!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Diagon Alley. Loved every moment of the build

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I had to go with the NES, but was up against stiff competition! What a fantastic year to be a Lego fan.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

Haunted house was just amazing and included a lot of nostalgia...

Gravatar
By in Italy,

Tough luck for my Colosseum but I'll go with the Crocodile loc, and an honorable mention for Barracuda Bay which I'm sure will sweep away all other competitors.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

1! 2! 3! Sesame!

Win or lose, I want whatever is supposed to be attached to Hooper's store to be a future set. :-)

A set that includes Abby, Zoey, Rosita, the Count and Grover. ;-)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

pirateship PirateShip PIRATESHIP!

Affordability + 3-in-1 edges it over Barracuda Bay.

Also, 71721 is a fantastic dragon, even for non-Ninjago fans.

Apologies, I initially forgot to hide the results. It all builds the suspense! :o)

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

@CapnRex101, the link to 75277 Boba Fett Helmet leads to 70437 Mystery Castle.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Strangely, I'm not sure any of these really blew me away. All good sets, but no standouts for me really.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

123 Sesame Street! :)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Diagon Alley all the way!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Personal set of the year for me is Temple Fair.

But I think Barracuda Bay and NES are the sets most likely to be year-defining in 5 years.

I haven’t built Barracuda Bay but I’ve built two other ships from this year - 3 in 1 pirate ship and Destiny’s Bounty - and both of those excellent.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Now the Bookshop and the Cantina are probably better sets, but I feel like I have to keep supporting my favourite that I've actually built, Attack on the Burrow. My favourite set of my new favourite line, one of my favourite playsets... Ever, maybe, so much detail and colour, and five rare characters in minifigure form. For a big Harry Potter fan like me, this is a no-brainer choice IMO.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Mos Eisley Cantina... you will never find a more beautiful design of parts and minifigs.

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

Diagon Alley! I didn't actually have it but it was really long because i loved it when i saw and tried to build it myself!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Pirates of Barracuda Bay, no question one of the best LEGO IDEAS sets out there.

Can't wait to get my hands on it.

Gravatar
By in Russian Federation,

Pirates of Barracuda Bay.
Haunted House and Ecto-1 shares the second place.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Bookshop for me. I only own three of the others, and the Bookshop is the only one I've actually built yet.

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

No Super Mario? Bookshop it is for me, then.

Gotta be honest, I've been on the fence about spending $200 (retails for $250 here) with my birthday discount because I still don't think it looks worth $200, I'm still wondering if I should wait for a better deal to come along...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I was going to go for the Lamborghini but then I thought about the colour issues. I have managed to sort that now with a few extra bits kindly sent by Lego but it affects the overall outcome for me.
If not for those issues I’d be happy to vote for it.
Instead I’m going for the Grand Piano. It is impressive and for me, got a lot of ‘Wows’ from people who otherwise know very little about Lego. That spoke volumes.
It’s probably in a similar area to some, interest wise, as the NES. I have the NES too, but it just sits there unlike the Piano which does things and grabs people’s attention.

Grand Piano for me!

And happy new year everyone.
Onwards and upwards......we surely can’t go any lower. Lol!

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Piano was amazing, it was nice to see instruments incorporated into full on sets. I mean come on, the keys literally press down on their own!
I have Barracuda Bay (Unbuilt) but I have no nostalgia for the pirates theme since I never grew up with any of those sets, unfortunately. I do see a lot of people showing it some love though, wish I could join in lol.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Easy. It’s 21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay. I felt like a kid again in 1989 when I got my first Pirates sets. Those first sets years ago helped me cope with the passing away of my kid brother and they provided me happiness again. And now fast forward to 2020: I had so much fun and joy building it. And my kids and I have more enjoyment playing with the set together than watching TV and having our faces glued to our screens.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Second thought...... What-the-bleep: there is no 51515 in the list. Forgot about that being 2020 as well.
The 51515 Robot Inventor is the best set of the DECADE! It is in the out-of-this-world class on par with the:
https://brickset.com/sets/8090-1/Universal-Set
https://brickset.com/sets/8880-1/Super-Car
https://brickset.com/sets/8043-1/Motorized-Excavator
The 51515 is such an excellent piece of kit. You can actually build so many things with it, the kit is presented as 50-in-1 model. That is astonishing. Why is the 51515 no option to choose?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I voted for Diagon Alley II as i call it. I don't own it....yet... ,but hope too, but it looks very impressive.
I would have voted for the NES otherwise which I do own and bizarrely started building the TV, which was finished a couple of weeks ago and ive not got to the NES part yet......

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

My nomination was 75277 , so shame it missed out. I actually don’t own any of the sets on the list so went for the RazorCrest because of reviews, looks and it wouldn’t be right for a mainly Star Wars collector to choose a different theme.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Whilst I actually don’t have it yet, it has to be Pirates of Barracuda Bay for me. It’s everything a Lego set should be. Amazing set design, awesome box artwork. Puts a smile on your face and real nostalgia value for AFOLs. Will defo be picking up this year, but have prioritised the Treehouse.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Diagon Alley was good but Baracuda Bay was the more fun build. It gets my vote and not just because I’d love to see Pirates again.

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

The gamer in me was saying the NES but the Lego fan in me said Haunted House as it's a blast from my past when I adored The Adventures line of set. Haunted House it was then.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

So many great sets in 2020, but had to go with Diagon Alley because the build was a wonderful process.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

What a year.
I don't think I've had such a difficult LEGO-related choice!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Barracuda Bay, non licensed and a Classic.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

As much as I love the Crocodile, my vote goes to Mike Psiaki. That ECTO-1 is gorgeous!
Had the crocodile been dark green it might have been a different story...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I put razor crest, despite what happened to it. The AT-AT looks awesome but I don’t have it so I don’t think it’s right for me to vote. I really like the IT-S transports though

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I can't honestly understand all the voting for the NES. Is it really that great a set? I get the nostalgia and all but honestly is it a good LEGO set? Perhaps the nostalgia makes it a favourite for all these people. I mean in the end you get a grey box to display for the NES. The TV I suppose has a bit more intrigue with the function especially if you bothered to get the starter Mario to go with it.

Not to mention it even comes with a totally wrong TV. Why is there a 70's RCA model included? With turn-knob-tuning? Seriously? The NES should definitely come with a mid eighties all black SONY Trinitron! We already had remotes for many years in the late eighties.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

To me, the best sets were the Temple Fair and the Crocodile, which in the end got my vote.
Pirates of Barracuda Bay was fan service and the packaging evoked really nostalgic feelings, but as a set it just strayed too far from the original submission for my liking.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

To my mind, the visually spectacular and “authentically LEGO” Barracuda Bay deserves to win. As much as these IP based adult collectors sets are impressive, nothing to my mind can top the classic LEGO aesthetic which doesn’t require knowledge of a movie or pop culture property to be appreciated.

You should buy it. You will not regret it. It is a wonderful build. I bought it for my other half and, as a Harry Potter fan, she loves it.

Well, the only reason we got an NES when it came out was because many family members chipped in to buy it for me and my brother. And that TV is nearly identical to the one we played on for years. Technology wasn’t nearly as disposable as it is today. Most families would keep a TV for 15-25 years.

Gravatar
By in United States,

As for the winner... Pirates of Barracuda Bay is the correct answer. Congrats to those who were right.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Pirate life for me! Throw back to ogling the pictures of castle and pirates and never having them , I don't have any of these sets but this is the one I'd love to get

Gravatar
By in United States,

Grand piano.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It would have been Diagon Alley for me, if Pirates of Barracuda Bay had not been released

Gravatar
By in United States,

So many great sets, but it has to be Mos Eisley Cantina for me. A full-size, definitive cantina set isn’t something I thought we would ever actually get, and it blew me away! More MBS sets like this in the Star Wars theme please :-) :-)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Grand Piano!!!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I had to pick wth my summer Lego budget between Barracuda Bay and the NES. I picked the NES, but only after a long deliberation. Same for this poll, I personally voted the NES, but would be okay with Barracuda Bay winning.

I have zero connection to the real console - I wasn't even alive at the time it came out - yet I still voted it as my favourite set of the year. The building techniques are absolutely fantastic and the scrolling screen must be the most ingenious function I've seen in a LEGO set.

It was in the under $40 article yesterday

Gravatar
By in Russian Federation,

I voted for the 71721 Skull Sorcerer's Dragon, but the 21322 Barracuda Bay is equally gorgeous, it is so hard to choose between them!

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

Many of these sets don not appeal to kids. I voted for the AT AT.

Gravatar
By in United States,

71721 all the way. my favorite theme, amazing dragon, board game aspect, and only $80 for over 1000 parts!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I would have picked Mickey and Minnie Mouse but since that didn't get nominated Ecto-1 was a close second.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Pirates of Barracuda Bay took my breath away the first time I saw it, and my love for that set has only grown. Absolutely incredible in terms of building process, play value, and display value.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Like choosing your favorite child. So many great sets, and my favorite isn’t the one with the best looks or techniques, but it’s the one that brings back my childhood: 123 Sesame Street.

Gravatar
By in France,

Mos Eisley cantina without any doubt for me. I don't have it,many of the listed sets are on my dream list, but Mos Eisley is at the top of it. So many good and big sets this year...that list is impressive in terms of quality behind the names.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I have 2 Diagon alley & The UCS batwing!!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

The Mos Eisley Cantina!
All the others are undoubtedly very impressive -if not just as impressive-, especially the NES, but as a SW fan this had so much appeal to me and the set did not disappoint. The build is great and the details and references are tremendous!

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Razor Crest. Would have been the Burrow, but working on the ship’s interior got me my creative flow back.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Pirates of Barracuda Bay, no Ifs, Ands, or Buts about it. Pirate ship was definitely 2 for me. You might think I like Pirate ships or something...

Gravatar
By in United States,

As I don't own any of these sets, it's a level playing field...that said:
Pirates of Barracuda Bay: The amount of thought, attention, and...well, love that went in to the design; it shows the designer's 'heart' and fans feelings of the 'Classic Themes' (Space, Castle, Pirates,...)...wonder if we'll ever get a 'Classic' spaceship out of 'Ideas'...

The 'Honorable Mention' goes to Sesame Street, for different and similar reasons:
It's a 'Theme' the TLG has never touched, the designer did a great job and the fans got totally behind it, and even I said in a previous article: it reminds me not only of 'the show' (which it's suppose to), but it also reminds my of an ooooold Fisher-Price set I had as a kid of 'the Street', which is a bonus. Hope TLG expands it to a full 'Theme'...

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Bookshop was the only one I owned, but it sure is a beautiful set! Not to mention it kept me occupied in lockdown!

It was close though; Mos Eisley and the Chinese Temple Fair are outstanding in their own right.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm voting for the NES, but I think we're all pretty certain Barracuda is going to, well, blow everyone else out of the water.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Pirates of Barracuda Bay by a wide margin. This would be my desert island Lego set, ironically and unironically. Just incredible.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

The Razor Crest. I've spoken.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

While I loved Bookshop, the lack of books really let it down. So Pirates of Barracuda Bay!!

Hopefully Lego will see these expected results and learn to do more 'classic' themes but updated.

Lego always whinges that kids arent interested in any of the classic themes, funny that since Im sure there were plenty of kids who wouldve loved to own POBB. It was one of the most popular sets at the Lego store here (as in where they build the set and put it in a glass case).

Also in Lego Masters Season 2 I forgot their names (sorry guys) but one team of finalists built a huge pirate ship with large figurines and the kids loved it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

You'll never find a more retched hive of scum and villainy.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love the Bookstore, books or no books. I can always add more from my stash, and the grace and beauty of the scene really appeals to me. However, there were so many magnificient sets put out this year that it seems unreasonable to have to settle on one for a favorite!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Arrrr!!! Pirates of Barracuda Bay!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I only own the AT-AT and Razor Crest sets. So I went with my favorite of the two; the AT-AT. Doesn't have a chance in Hoth of winning, but it's my favorite of 2020

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

The best set of the year was the 501st battle pack. Why is it not one of the options?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Pirates of Barracuda Bay

More Pirate sets please!

Gravatar
By in Malaysia,

Pirates of Barracuda Bay, NES and Haunted House.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Your gonna burn, burn, burn, burn, burn it to wick.
OH, BARRACUDA!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Picked the AT-AT. It will get steamrolled by Mos Eisley Cantina but it was a huge improvement over the OG version. It’s great to have so many sets to debate over.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@wwward said:
"Diagon Alley!!! How come this poll shows the results and the other polls don’t? :)"

To keep it fairer, If people knew what other people voted they could adjust their vote and commit voter fraud. It is better this way. The results will be published soon enough.

Gravatar
By in Serbia,

Haunted House ftw, there's SO many references to my favorite childhood adventure sets!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

With regard to why any particular sets are missing from the options, they did not receive enough nominations for consideration.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looking at the list of the top nominated sets, it is hard to pick a favorite. It seems LEGO has created a favorite for many themes Creator, HP, SW, throwback retro nostalgia sets, you name it. It is a win for fans of LEGO, something for everyone.
Now to pick my favorite, (have to get it still, since still out of stock). Unfortunately my wallet does not agree with my choice, may need to live on ramen soup or PBJ sandwiches for a while.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Barracuda and Piano for me. I like the TV in the NES set, but not the grey box unfortunately.

There really are some great sets though !

Gravatar
By in United States,

I can’t seem to find or see the results. Are they posted somewhere? Thanks
