Mickey and Minnie Mouse Brick Sketches revealed
Posted by Huw,
LEGO has published pictures of two forthcoming Brick Sketches, 40456 Mickey Mouse and 40457 Minnie Mouse.
They'll be launched on 1st March, priced at £14.99/$16.99. Last year's four have also had a price adjustment to that lower price recently, too, so we can assume that they were not selling well at the previous price of £17.99/$19.99.
You'll find photos of both after the break.

They look a wee bit creepy :/ , surely its not me?
I think its Minnie's eyelashes that are the most creepy bit to me, both of their blank stares don't help either though.
I like them though, defo buys XD
Incoming "horrifying!" comments
I actually think these are pretty well done. Use of the grille tiles on Minnie is genius.
I like these at $17 a lot more!
I gotta admit, these are pretty cool, but what is with all the creepy looking Micky/Minnie mouse content lately?
Still something a little bit off about them, but they definitely look a heck of a lot better than a lot of the super-low-res pics of them that have been bouncing around....
Mickey & Minnie mouse if they Were in the Saw movies...
The brickheadz looked better tbh!
I think these look great! Looking forward to picking them up.
These are cute. Nice addition, nice reduction in price.
1. Lego Art mosaic
gap
2. BrickHeadz
3. Brick Sketch
big gap
4. brick built statues from last year
Mickey and Disney as a whole have been creepy this whole time if you ask me.
I feel rather sad that Chris’ talents are being squandered on characters that have been irrelevant for decades. Can’t wait for Goofy and Pluto.
These have great character with some nice shaping! The only thing missing is a highlight in the eye to breath some life into it, otherwise they really work!

Maybe an ultimatum from Disney - "If you want to keep your Star Wars license (Marvel, too), you have to promote the Mouse.
Since when does Mickey wear a bow tie? That looks off to me.
These looked more creepy in the blurred leaks, but I actually quite like the Mickey one!
They’re not badly done, but something looks off.
I think it’s the eyes. They aren’t quite round enough to look consistent with the rest, but that’s not really the designer’s fault.
The best ones i have seen so far
Still too expensive imho.
These should be 9.99, 14.99 max.
Printed eyes would help too, to get rid of that hollow stare.
They can't tell me that they are able to print dozens of new pieces for that Vidiyo stuff, but not reusable black 1x1 rounded tiles with white pupils.
It's a nice line with original and colorful designs, but I find them difficult to "use" or display. The price point didn't help either. I wish them Brickhead's level success, but they don't quite have that ease of display that the big mosaïcs, or the standing Brickheads, have.
I think that they’re quite perfect. A sketch is supposed to look quickly done with few details. It’s the definition of “sketch”.

You buy a cheap picture frame/plate stand.
The blackest eyes.. the devil's eyes..
It is the cheeks that make them weird. They are too bulbous for the flat perspective together with a oversized lower jaw.
Even though they are cartoon figures, those cheeks/mouths make them look over-childish.
4 Mickies so far : one succeeded (31202), one fair (41624) and two, well... the other two (43179, 40456).

100% agree that the Art set is the most well done LEGO Mickey Mouse to date - also the most well done Minnie as well.
I love Chris' work, these are well done as usual, I just don't understand the market for these.
IF TLC really wants to use his talents, let them release a LEGO Christmas ornament collection designed by him. He has some amazing ones that I have made in the last few years, using Bricklink parts and his online instructions.
Brick Sketches were a mistake.
I’m getting an Animaniacs vibe from these.
These look really well done. I still won’t buy them, but these look better than series 1.
And the new price is a step in the right direction, but I think $14.99 is the sweet spot for what you’re getting.
Great designs, but the white skin colour is kind of unsettling. I think it would work better if they had nougat/flesh coloured faces like in all modern Mickey depictions, or if they were done as total greyscale (like the black and white Steamboat Willie).
Creepy
If you want Mickey, just buy Minnie and take off the bow and dress... Same price but a few extra parts!
Brick sketches are currently the only theme in which I have 100% of the released sets ;) I’d like to keep it that way too so I’ll have to pick these up too. Also..I thought 20 was a fine price for these things..
Can we be refunded the difference on the earlier 4?
Still not nearly as creepy as BrickHeadz.

Since 2013’s Mickey Mouse shorts on the Disney Channel and currently The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse on Disney+, Mickey, Minnie, and Goofy have sported white faces.
"so we can assume that they were not selling well at the previous price of £17.99/$19.99."
Shocking!! Who would have guessed...

Maybe that should be a hint to LEGO. :)
"
I believe it was last week that they adjusted them, on the 24th
Loving the use of the heart plates on Minnie.

No, it was before that, the Batman one is in my "60132 Wall of Shame list", and was last updated 1/7, the price drop has already happened, so it might be earlier.

Mickey Mouse is inarguably one of the single most iconic characters of all time. There's a reason Disney essentially destroyed copyright law to keep him.
This is already way better and more suited to the medium, than that art mosaic thing. Does it really have to be Disney tho.

You don't even have to do that, Brick Sketches come with a stand.
These are interesting and definitely evoke their basis but $16.99/£14.99 is still a bit hard to swallow IMO. In general, I'm not super into LEGO for display-type sets so I can't really criticize this, I'll just go back to making "pew-pew" sounds while playing with my sub-$14.99 Star Wars battle packs.
I feel like Mickey would be good for placing outside 71044...Like Disneyland has.
I think they look nice but maybe they should have gone with quarter 2x2 round tile around the nose. Those 1x2 chese tiles look out of place.
LEGO is making good use of their 3x3 heart plate if nothing else, I appreciate it when seemingly specific pieces get unexpected applications.
Still far too expensive for a decorative tile

Mickey is incredibly relevant today, much more so than he was when I was a kid in the 80s. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse was a tremendous success on Disney Junior and the only show that both my kids could always agree on watching. Disney has invested a lot into the character recently and it shows. My kids are into Squishmallows and their favorites (out of the 50+ we own) are Mickey and Minnie, my daughter won’t put Minnie down.
wake me for Donald
Why are the top corners not the background colour but white?

I believe it's based off his Disney Parks mascot appearance, as seen on the minifigure in 71040?
I wouldn't buy these; but then, that's sort of my stance on the Brick Sketches series as a whole, to be honest. They don't look awful, but not something I'd spend money on.
Unless, I guess, Lego decides to bring out one of them based on any of my particular favourite characters, then my stance might change! But otherwise, yeah, I'm gonna be sitting out on this line.
I know Mickey and Minnie are the 'in' thing right now, but it is an easy pass from me.

I don't quite know how you got the untrue information that Mickey is irrelevant, he's the main character of two currently going shows and the mascot of the largest entertainment company on earth

It's the style - ALL the Brick Sketches are designed that way...
