Pictures of six hitherto unseen Monkie Kid sets have been published on a Taiwanese department store website.

The colourful and inventive sets continue the story of the titular kid's journey to the west and introduce a whole host of new vehicles, creatures, friends and foes.

It's believed that they will be available worldwide from March 1st and, like last year's, will be exclusive to brand stores and LEGO.com.

Thanks to Robert at Promobricks for the news.

By in Canada,

The sets look great but it all comes down to pricing for this line. The first few waves were far more expensive than comparable sets in other themes. I'm amazed they haven't done a bunch of small cheap sets to get kids into the theme but I guess this line targets those with money.

Gravatar
By in United States,

That monkey sanctuary looks awesome! I also really like the look of the new-colored flame piece and the spider legs

Gravatar
By in United States,

That last set though...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The Lion guardian looks awesome, but the high price of these sets has been a definite turnoff.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I still think it looks way too much like Ninjago. I assume these are mainly made with the chinese market in mind though.

Gravatar
By in United States,

What appears to be cheap monkie kid sets... no way!

Gravatar
By in United States,

80024 The Legendary Flower Fruit Mountain looks so good! Man, that's almost a day one purchase. If i had the space...

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

That last set is what we wanted from Chima. Very cool and a lot of monkeys

Gravatar
By in Malaysia,

80024 Monkeys everywhere!

Gravatar
By in United States,

If they start regularly putting brick separators in 200 piece sets we're all in trouble. Some of these look really good but I suspect I'll pass like I did on the first wave due to price.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I can see a lot of "Planet of the Apes" mocs being done now with the minifigs in the Flower and Furit Mountain set.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Wow - first thought: Cool looking sets!

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

Will 80018 be the smallest and cheapest set containing a teal brick separator (currently 41915, or 11013 PPP-wise)? Since when did LEGO include separators with such small sets?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Flower Fruit Mountain looks phenomenal! And all the other sets are great, as well.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I like the look of that Lion Guardian especially, but all of these seem very high quality builds with lots of colour and detail. We bought the very large HQ set which looks like a tug boat or small cargo ship, it's such a great build and the minifigures are brilliant.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Love the Fruit Mountain and the Lion Guardian!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Uh oh... Monkie Kid is making double bike sets... still might get it tho.

Gravatar
By in United States,

wow fruit mountain is grayer than every star wars flagship set combined
but monke makes it all better

Gravatar
By in United States,

Very impressive

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Looks like they'll have to bring back ADU & Galaxy Squad to deal with that Arachnoid Base!

Gravatar
By in United States,

WOAH. That Mountain looks amazing!!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Another two bike set, how exciting!!
I do really love the look of the white dragon horse jet though, and looks like another working vending machine build, very nice,
and as for flower fruit mountain - spectacular!!
Though as many here have noted I'll want to see the price before I get too excited

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I definitely have my 2-3 favourites just like with every wave - a whiff of fresh air as always, thank you MK

Gravatar
By in United States,

They all look pretty good but the only one that really strikes my fancy is of course the mountain. It'll probably cost a pretty penny, but most of the best sets do.
^ I'm glad to see I'm not the only person that immediately thought of that alien vehicle from Galaxy Squad when I saw the Spider Queen's base (I think it was called the Hive Crawler).

Gravatar
By in United States,

80020 trans neon green canopy!

Gravatar
By in Poland,

That moutain is how I imagined the Village from Ninjago set would look like and we got some silly snake hill xD
This looks WAY better than previous sets that were quite bland.

Gravatar
By in Norway,

I was hoping for less vehicles and more buildings like the one in the 80012 Monkey King Warrior Mech. Oh well..

Gravatar
By in United States,

Anyone know what's being used for those 'stairs' in flower fruit mountain?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

There are lots of prices on the momoshop website linked to in Huw's article. After some very rough comparisons it seems like 80021 could be £60... but that seems too much so I hope my 'calculations' are way out.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Is there a story to follow with this theme? Like a TV series?
I thought the Monkey King was on the same as the kid based on the big mech model from the first wave, but now they’re battling each other here...hmmm

Gravatar
By in France,

A couple of great sets with White Dragon Horse Jet, Lion Guardian, Flower Fruit Mountain! The Arachnoid Base is interesting too.
Funny little stands, especially the right one in the Lion Guardian.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

"...continue the story of the titular kid's journey to the west..."
How, exactly? I mean a couple of the sets are jets. Last time I got on a jet it was able to take me from one continent to another (in my case, to the east) pretty quickly. It didn't require any continuation and there were no monkeys involved

Gravatar
By in United States,

These sets look amazing! I especially love the White Dragon Horse Jet, the Arachnoid Base, and of course Flower Fruit Mountain.

There is a story! The TV series has aired in China and Malaysia but sadly has not aired in America or Europe yet. I'm hoping that changes soon (maybe even within the next week or so), but in the meantime the episodes from the first season are out there (including the English dub) if you know where to look.

In the Flower Fruit Mountain set, that's not actually the Monkey King that MK is fighting, but rather the nefarious Six-Eared Macaque (another powerful primate who shares many of the Monkey King's powers).

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Wow, these look nice! And expensive! I like the theme but it since there is no chance to get these for a fair price, I might pass again.

Also, why doesn't Lego include the brick separator in different colors for each theme? Now that would be a nice idea!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Did a quick Google conversion of the prices and looks like they will be roughly these prices:

80018 - Monkie Kid's Cloud Bike- £18/$20
80019 - Red Son's Inferno Jet- £25/$30
80020 - White Dragon Horse Jet- £35/$40
80021 - Monkie Kid's Lion Guardian- £70/$75
80022 - Spider Queen's Arachnoid Base- £90/$100
80024 - The Legendary Flower Fruit Mountain- £150/$170

*These aren't confirmed prices!*

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Legendary Flower Fruit Mountain set looks AMAZING!!! Can't wait to see that I can't afford it!

Also, "White Dragon Horse Jet" has to be a contender for the weirdest LEGO set name ever.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Oh I do like that horse jet. Which is not something I ever thought I would write. Although if those are drinks in the vending machine I'm not sure I want Ladybird, Spider or Egg flavours!

Gravatar
By in United States,

The bikes and the red jet are meh. The green jet is a bit better, but nothing to write home about. The Lion Guardian and the Giant Spider are decent. But that mountain! Dang that looks incredible.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

@LegoRobo said:
"When I saw the cover picture, my tired eyes thought we were getting an Exploriens comeback ;) Spider Queen reminds me a little of 7078, but under closer inspection there are several differences. That’s a lotta monkeys in the last set..."

Ngl, an Exploriens comeback would be pretty sweet tho (or any other original space theme for that matter)

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is way better than the first or second waves. I love 80024, but the first 2 sets dont really appeal to me, also the lion feels way too much like the nian. Considering Flower fruit mountain has 1949 pieces, it will be 200, which feels a tad expensive though.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm not into this theme, but these sets look enjoyable to build. Very colorful and fun!

Gravatar
By in United States,

A great reuse for Metalbeards...metal beard, love it!

Gravatar
By in Hong Kong,

I hope to see more natural builds along the lines of Fruit Flower Mountain. It nice to see more non-vehicle sets

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

Nice, probably still too prohibitively priced.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Still can't see the added value of this over Ninjago.
Too much resemblance.
Though these sets certainly look better than the new Ninjago "Hawaii" line.

Gravatar
By in United States,

SO GOOD

It's Ninjago for China. Ninjas are a distinctly Japanese thing. There is quite a lot of animosity between Chinese and Japanese people and their cultures...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm not a fan of anything except that Lion set is so cool. The brickbuilt mythical lion is awesome, and I'm in love with the "claw game" in the tiny building facade.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm drooling over the Arachnid Base

Gravatar
By in United States,

Really love these sets, Monkie Kid continues to impress.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The mountain looks like it could be a Friends wildlife rescue set from last year - on steroids. Would love to see a set this size in the Friends theme!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I just want that trans-green canopy for modern Blacktron II MOCs, besides that I'll wait for parts inventory to see if there's anything interesting to pick up on Bricklink. The Jet uses those Nexo Knight shields in the wing it looks like? Sort of curious how that set is buit.

Gravatar
By in United States,

That Flower Fruit Mountain set looks awesome. Depending on price I may need to have it. If the rumored City Jungle sets are anything like this I'll probably need to get those. Been holding off on the Friends Jungle wave as the animals are a bit too cutesy & I've already got way too many mini doll figs, hair bows & hair brushes but the prices on those sets are way more affordable than anything in this Monkie Kid theme.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

The theme is a great, full of imagination and "Lego spirit". However, it's one of these rare time I admit the sets are just too expensive for what they are. I'm always surprised when I'm thinking about getting one and see the price.

Gravatar
By in United States,

My only "complaint" is Lego has so many compelling themes it's hard to choose what to focus on.

For me, I've reduced my buying of Marvel sets simply because I've been buying other stuff instead. In this case, it was Diagon Alley sucking up the money I had allocated to Marvel sets.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Flower Mountain looks very good at 1st glance. Caught my eye immediately.

Being 'exclusive' sets I just hope they don't overpriced them as there won't be the 30%+ discounts on Amazon and other retailers which are normally the main time I buy LEGO outside of great GWP offer periods.

Gravatar
By in United States,

That sanctuary is AWESOME!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'd happily have ALL of these in my collection. Wonderful parts and phenomenal designs. GO LEGO!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Gasp

Gravatar
By in Latvia,

White dragon jet looks interesting, although I am not really interested in this theme and don't plan on buying these sets

Just add sloths!

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

Ok, I'll likely get that awesome mountain set in due time...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

That Arachnoid Base is like the Technodrome!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It will be interesting to see how people incorporate "The Legendary Flower Fruit Mountain" in their own landscapes, e.g. a mountain waterfall begin Ninjago City Gardens.

I can't wait to add some goats!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Flower Fruit Mountain is what I was hoping this theme would be like when I first heard rumours about a Monkey King theme.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hey hey we’re the monkeys!

All joking aside, when is LEGO going to use the new staff end piece for Darth Maul’s lightsaber? Just sayin.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I never even saw the first wave anywhere. Where are they even selling these?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I want the lion and mountain but this theme is overpriced. :(

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Is that someone being born from an egg on a mountain top?

@Jackthenipper said:

Looks like it! The set seems to include figs of the Monkey King from four different points in his life (in addition to MK, Macaque, and the two smaller monkeys) so that you can role-play his origin and history.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Jackthenipper said:
"Is that someone being born from an egg on a mountain top?"

Quite right! That's the origin story of the Stone Monkey King. One day, a stone monkey was born from a stone egg atop the Mountain of Flowers and Fruit. This monkey was much smarter and livelier than the other monkeys on the mountain, so he became their king. One day while exploring the mountain, he discovered a paradise of a cave behind a waterfall. All the monkeys moved into the Water Curtain Cave and lived there happily for many years while the Stone Monkey King went on many journeys to develop his magic powers. Eventually the Water Curtain Cave on the Mountain of Flowers and Fruit became a fortress where the monkeys held off many heavenly hosts when the Stone Monkey King, in the form of the enormous warrior represented by last year's Monkey King Warrior Mech, defied the combined armies of the Jade Emperor, the Buddha, and many princes, generals, and even bodhisattvas. He was only subdued when the Buddha dropped a mountain on him and imprisoned him for 500 years, after which he was released in order to protect the monk Sanzang on his journey to the Western Heaven to retrieve the Scriptures.

Gravatar
By in Estonia,

People's stimulus money must really be going a long way if LEGO is dumping out all this really expensive stuff right from the jump...

Echoing most people's comments: Monkie King has exceeded my expectations, design wise, but the price is really the mind-killer. I bought the HQ last year only because I was bored out of my skull during quarantine and there seemed to be nothing else interesting out.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Monkie Kid sets intrigue me, but generally not enough to buy, buuuuuut 80024 The Legendary Flower Fruit Mountain, that is something else!!!!

Get the same WOW! moment from when I saw Ninjago City 70620 for the first time.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

80024 Reject humanity! Unleash the MONKE

Gravatar
By in Australia,

The mountain looks perfect, and the rest are mostly good sets, but it ultimately comes down to pricing. That threw me off the first wave. That said, maybe this will be the one that will be generally more affordable.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Never been interestef in Monkey King before, but that mountain looks like Lego magic at it’s finest

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

The sets are ok and all but it's clear they dialed the awesome way back compared to the all out creativity they went for in the first wave (they all seem much smaller, too)...

I was really hoping for a second mech with the level of detail of the Monkey King one.

Lego does have an animated series for it, but it is all based off the Chinese myth Journey to the West. If you want a fairly accessible summary of the original myth, Overly Sarcastic Productions has this series here. Flower Fruit Mountain is taken straight from the original myth: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61nuXrvqNgI&list=PLDb22nlVXGgdg_NR_-GtTrMnbMVmtSSXa

Consider Monkie Kid to be a modern day sequel of sorts to the original myth.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow the mountain looks fantastic! Those 90 degree bar to clip parts that make up the robot spiders legs and the 3x3 roof piece that lines up with the 1 x 3 inverted arch from the police station look like they will be useful parts for mocs.

Gravatar
By in Hong Kong,

I was scrolling down, pretty confident I'd not want to buy any of them until I got to the last one.....

Gravatar
By in United States,

80018 doesn't seem like much at first, but there are additional set images on the linked store website and the wheels of the bike can open into "flying mode" like a previous spider man set. The inner technic rims are trans-neon orange as well.

Gravatar

I was looking for this commentary! I too sure hope it's trans-neon-green (more possibilities for M-Tron and Blacktron II MOCs), but the image suggests it might be trans-bright-green instead. I hope not!

Gravatar
By in United States,

80020 White Dragon Horse Jet REALLY makes me wish TLG would do another original space theme. It's so sleek and futuristic, and I love the hexagonal pattern made with the nexo knights shields. Whoever designed that set needs to be assigned either a brand new space theme or a reboot of a previous space subtheme, stat.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

I liked most of the first wave of Monkie kid sets but this lot... does absolutely nothing for me.
If anything they look like leftover Ninjago ideas.

They’re ladders (part 4175) oriented diagonally.

Difficult to tell from the picture, but I think the tread of the steps could be book covers.

Gravatar
By in Malaysia,

Oh, the next wave of Monkie Kid sets are already revealed? Of all the sets, the one that I can afford and looks interesting is the 80018 Monkie Kid's Cloud Bike set, mostly because there is a spider-like creature in it (only six legs, but that's fine), and the parts for the bikes could be used for building something else that I fancy (machines or robots).

Although another spider variant (in purple) is present in the White Dragon Horse set, I am more likely to just get the 80018 set and purchase the parts for the purple spider creature through BrickLink :D

White Dragon Horse Jet is top o' the list for me, as I got the cycle last year...although, I do dig that mountain...funny enough; that mountain is kinda' what I would have wanted in Chima...Nice crane too, flying around.

Also, does anybody else get an 'image' in their head of the heroes of MK and those from Ninjago standing, looking at each other yelling "What are DOING HERE..." while their enemies are flying around them...just me then:)

I'm afraid it is the wrong shade of green. But these old eyes can't tell for sure. I'd love to see that canopy in trans neon orange.
