City Stuntz sets revealed
Posted by Huw,
Images of ten City Stuntz sets surfaced on LEGO.com overnight. Four of them contain motorcycles or trucks with flywheel-powered motors, and ramps and other obstacles over which you can attempt stunts.
The other six consist of a motorcycle and a rider minifig attired in a colourful costume.
They will be available from October 1st, and you can view them all in the database.

These are obviously for a younger demographic but there's a lot to love here. It's definitely one of the more unique city subthemes, that's for sure. I'm interested in seeing how well the flywheel motorcycles work. they look a little wide but hopefully they'll play really well!
Reminds me of beginning of LEGOs downfall in late 90`s, that started with set juniorisation as well as attempts to digitalize LEGO bricks. I suspect this is exactly the same happening now with juniorisation as well as development of augmented reality sets.
The individual bikes look really cool but are $13 Australian for one figure and a motor bike. Sure they are more substantial then usual bikes and have new head gear, but $13 for one bike and one person, recommend anyone local in Australia to wait till they are 50% off on Amazon in 6mths time!!
Imo the whole these is overpriced
The bikes at £7 feel way too much, £5 then maybe but no more but I love some of the figures like the Chicken Guy asides form that the whole sub-theme is an easy pass.
Hope that the Black & White Piranha's and Orange coaster track pieces go onto Bricks & Pieces at reasonable prices.

Of course - everything time Lego tries something different, we are on the verge of the second Lego apocalypse.
These sets look fun.
Yes they are expensive but by the middle of August Amazon will have reduced them by 30%, you wait and see :-)
They could've saved all theses reveals for Lego can
Is set 60298 the closest we're gonna get to an official rocket racer, we need those Racers reboots
I think they had a lot of fun designing the characters. Even if I wanted just one I can't choose.
I'm not a fan of stunt shows, but these colorful characters appeal to me.
For the stunt sets I'd wait for reviews to see how well the bikes perform.
Superheroes, big cars, stunt shows... Lego welcomes you back to the 1970s.
Let's all get some flared jeans and grow some sideburns.

You pay 5 dollars/euros for a collectable minifigure these days, what youre buying here is a collectable minifigure with a pullback motor bike. Id say its comparably on par with most lego prices.
Three different bodies for the motorbikes, orange wheels, dark red motocross helmet.
Lots to like here.

£3.50 here, tbh would happily buy two CMFs over one of these.

I agree, and the truck in 60294 looks great albeit with an eye melting colour scheme
Someone at Lego still remembers Lego Racers and I respect the heck out of them for it.
Closest to an actual Rocket Racer figure we have gotten even though not entirely accurate to how he looks in the games.
Still never understood why he didnt get a figure back when they released
60311 : I see Freya McCloud is taking time off from being Fire Chief.
These look like a lot of fun and I think if I were still a kid I'd be all over them.
My Brickative bike shop is about to sell motorbikes. Woo!
Hmm, lots of specialized pieces and eye-hurting colour schemes desperately trying to get the kids' attention, terrible price per piece ratio... I've seen stuff like that circa 15-20 years ago, it haven't turned out good :(
I wonder if the new motorcycle body's are compatible with the current frames?
Also love that throwback to Rocket Racer! I made a custom minifig of him back in the early 2000s because there was no official one.
LEGO and their pricing - plastic gold! I do like the stunt truck set mostly for the clown - adding those 2 pieces to the base of the foot is genius :D
These are waaay overpriced.
nice line of items, will make a great collection when purchased at a more sensible price.
City subtheme, aiming for a very young age group, and using lots of large parts. Recipe for expensive.
Nevertheless, these look like a lot of fun.
These look like so much fun. I will be adding them to my collection for sure. I love the colors and the concept.
We seem to have a fair number of site members that just want the same things produced over and over again with no innovation. Baffling.
The bikes are a bargain at £7 each. The minifigs are superb, and would be £4 in a collectable MF blind bag.
The bikes have a flywheel, and there are also cool accessories bundled in.
I love them. If they end up at £5 each, so much the better.

Dunno, most comments are positive about the concept, it's just the prices are (justifiably) complained about.
Overpriced, but I want at least one of these bikes.
I bet that fried egg headlight violates all kinds of traffic laws
New trans-yellow windscreen!!
Reminds me of the old Drome Racers theme from the early 2000's, especially when it comes to the over the top minifigure designs and the mini pull-back motors! It is also really nice to finally get an official Rocket Racer minifigure, that is for sure.
The prices do seem a bit steep for what you get though...
I think the cars in the Stunt Arena have deliberately crushable roofs. That's a cool detail for a monster truck scene. Are the bodies of the motorbikes the current pieces? That is, they can connect to a regular motorbike chassis or a stunt one?
Lego is fun! I have my eye on one of these to use with 41352 and a bunch of road plates, which our family had such a blast with. It’s still probably the most enjoyable set we’ve ever bought, and with stunt ramps added? Friends take flight!

They are definitely new pieces, but based on the existing ones (chopper, crossbike and ninjabike).
The chopper one is the most obvious, lacking the stud on the front light.
I hope they are compatible with the current pieces, but they look wider at the back to accommodate the pull-back motor.
Like others have said, pricing is totally ludicrous, even at half the price most of them would be expensive. If my kids showed interest in these sets, I would try to divert their interest someplace else.
Great fun concept and execution. Perhaps including a ramp piece in the little sets would have made them feel a little better value. £5 would have been a push (or a pull :P) so will be waiting for the inevitable discount... (seen VIDIYO for 50% off and still not tempted at £9 for a fig and a few tiles...)
Too expensive for me.
I'm liking the vivid colors
In case the doomsayers haven’t noticed the subtle difference: no, this isn’t the Legopocalypse returned.
Yes, these (and Mario, Vidiyo, Hidden Side) are off the beaten path, but they all work in the system. And, most important, they still produce hundreds of “normal” sets of these don’t appeal to you.
That chicken looks like Ducky momo
I will just B&P A LOT OF PIECES
It's a small detail, but Rocket's helmet reminds me of the best of early 90's space themes with its bright and clear design. I like it, and would think about his bike at the right discount.
Rocket Racer is WANT! He was my favourite Lego character as a kid, ever since I played the Lego Racers video games, and it was an endlessly minor irritant to child-me that they never made a minifigure of him.
This version has several variances from the classic game design, of course. But at the same time, I can tell he's ABSOLUTELY meant to be the same character. Nothing else in this wave super interests me, but I do not want to miss my chance at getting my childhood fave in physical form!

Agreed! The other difference I'd like to point out, too, is that in the 90s/00s, Lego was experimenting from a place of weakness; their main product line was going under, they were desperate to recapture the spark of something that would appeal to kids, so they flailed out in all sorts of different wild directions in the hopes of finding anything that stuck.
Here though, they're experimenting from a position of strength. The main product line is strong, at least in enough areas to matter, so they have the leeway to branch out and try new things that take their fancy, knowing that even if they fail it's not going to tank the company.
Experimentation with new ideas is good and valid. Even if some of them are hot failures, the company (hopefully!) learns something from them, so it's not wasted. As long as the experimentation remains just one part of a greater whole, rather than the concept on which they stake their entire future, I don't think it's a problem.
60296-1 Wheelie Stunt Bike's rider just reminded me of the stunt rider from that old Steve Martin film, The Jerk. Seems unlikely she was their source material though... ;D
Awesome blue hair piece on her, and the mini as a whole is great.
£5 delivered from your choice of world-dominating online retailer would seem like a good price.
Holy cats, I never thought I would need a Chicken rider in my life, but I do! The bike will be a nice, fun bonus that I'll probably use to irritate my wife and cats.
The motorbikes are far more expensive than expected. Definitely discount buys because I can't see them selling at that price.
I feel like I'm obliged to buy that Rocket Racer motorcycle. Maybe on a sale
A few people have mentioned ‘pull-back’ motors. These seem to operate differently than that - you push them forward to get a flywheel up to speed. Both mechanisms are commonly found in toys. I look forward to trying out one of the bikes.
I was hoping for a sleeper cab in 60294: Stunt Show Truck but it looks like another two seats behind the driver and passenger, well nice to be able to fit all four minifigs of the set in the truck when they're on the road!
These look fun! Great for their target demographic.
I love the monster truck set too, I’ll be sure to keep my eye out for it on sale or maybe a double VIP purchase.
I am surprised that noöne has yet mentioned how cunning these Stuntz are.
$8 for a minifig and a bike with a mechanical function - a good deal. People know these have to be physically made, right? And people have to be paid along the way?
This theme looks super fun!
Very expensive for what you get so really only suitable if you REALLY like the sets. Which I don't.
The more sets like this I see the more I think Creator 3-in-1 is the best Lego theme.
I could see getting one bike, so glad they aren't blind buys.
Reminds me of Town Race from '00s which I happen to have (6617 as a flagship set).
Looks really cool, but it's helluva overpriced for me, so I'll pass.
Rocket Racer bike is the only special one to me, LEGO RACERS 64 was amazing at the time.
The truck and stunt show are great sets but not full-price great.

True, 3-in-1 has been my fav theme in the last few years, Pirates, Castle, Houses, at decent to great prices and mostly basic parts to MOC with.

If you listen to our German companions, it's more like the 43rd Lego apocalypse
The monster trucks in the biggest set are actually really cool! I wouldnt buy the set for them, but they remind me a lot of the old 80s monster truck toys. The Cyber Beast has a great color scheme!
I'm loving all the bright and crazy colors. When these leaked a while back I was planning on getting some of the bikers but $8 a pop? Eh....
The pirate looking minifigure the monster truck set has the Island Extreme Stunts logo on his shirt!!!
My thought: The years haven’t been too kind to Pepper Roni
I’m happy they look like they do. Saved me a few hundred bucks.
Two words.
Over. Priced.
I wasn't that interested in these before, but after seeing that pretty much all of those city stuntz bikes come with unique hairpieces for the minifigures, that certainly hooked me in.
Please tell me I'm not the only one who recognises 60298...
ROCKET RACER! From LEGO RACERS, the video game in 1999!
What a fantastic throwback! I'll be buying him for sure. But on the whole, I really like this range and feel they're perfectly suited to the target demographic. The cynic in me knows yet again that TLG has forged a means of selling unique minifigures and parts, but in this instance it actually works without sacrificing playability or purpose.
Could be wrong… dont take my word for it but i think theee pull back motor bikes :D which i would be happy to pay £5 for maybe £7 0.o

When the line was announced here on Brickset, I made a joke in the comments that after a certain number of pints you might intend to say ‘City Stuntz’ but it comes out very, very wrong ;~)
I have absolutely no interest but my kid is going to love these, especially if the flywheel function is decent. Seems like a win for KFOLs as a summer wave.
Edit: and the mullet hairpiece! Pretty rare piece according to Bricklink.
The little single bikes with the minifigs look really neat and I can see myself picking up one or two to add to my city, but the actual sets themselves? . . . Goodness those prices are SKY high, I get that the pull back motors are likely expensive to produce but good Lord
Those bikes looks wrong with that smaller rear wheel
I could not (and still don't) understand the appeal (if any) to Vidyo.
...but this, while not my interest, is something I can easily see kids being into.
Two words: ROCKET RACER.
They're quite cute... Brings back memories of the Evel Knievel toys of the 70s!
I can only see Chica from Five Nights at Freddy's when I look at the chicken guy lol.
These are fun designs, a little too clownish for me except 60311 but they will be a big hit with kids. Are a lot of people complaining about the childish designs really forgetting that these are toys? :)

You’re right, the most powerful toy company on the planet is brought to its knees by one potential dud.
These are so, SO disappointing compared to the preliminary versions that leaked back in early May. Most of the sets are significantly worse with less pieces, but the set that took the biggest hit is easily 60294 Stunt Show Truck. The trailer used to have way more bulk to it, but it seems like they removed hundreds of pieces so that the ramps could be stored on the back? Also, the ramp itself is missing prints/stickers that made it more visually interesting.
Pretty much the only sets that didn't get significantly downgraded are the 6 stunt bikes & set 60295 for the most part. Overall very disappointing and overpriced theme when it was clearly more robust at one point during production. Had the Stunt Show Truck not been gutted, the price would've made more sense.

Series 18 Race Car Guy would like to have a word with you all
If it wasn't obvious, I also have fond memories of Lego Racers lol
Why...just why...seriously, Vidiyo suddenly looks GOOD next to this 'overall'. And don't get me wrong, some of these have potential, but...are the new bike/bikers 'blind bagged/boxed' or visible...
Edit: Is that 'Fire Cycle' rider related to Chief Freya McCloud...if she is: Irony:)

You shouldn't be saying that, according to @BrickToBasics . After all, you are not from Germany.
;-)
@Nokturn: but that's how TLG works these days. They start off with something neat, then set an RRP accordingly.
In the olden days that would have been it. The sets would have gone to the stores and sold at that RRP. Everywhere. As back in the days (at least over here) there were absolutely no discounts. You went to the various toy stores, and all the items were the same price everywhere.
Nowadays with online shopping and changing customer habits, most people are not willing to buy at RRP anymore.
I bet those crazy high RRPs are there to account for that. TLG know that most of their products are immediately being discounted at least 20 to 33% by retailers because that's what customers expect. But profit margins for retailers are slim at best. Setting such high RRPs insures that at least some margin remains even after discounts. TLG get their cut anyway, because they will never sell to retailers at a loss.
Looks fun to me, and it's definitely more interesting than recycling an old Summer theme - but my god, if Lego wants me to buy on release they're going to have to knock down that RRP
These sets seem a little Hidden Side-esque to me. Maybe it is the combination of trucks with teeth, stunt people and the colors.
I wishlisted only one set - 60296 - bluehaired biker Poison Ivy! :)))

Maybe it's El Fuego? ;-)
Anyone got any idea why these were announced 3 months in advance, when other releases only get announced 1 month or even two weeks in advance? I can’t wait!

Well, that is what the CEO said was the cause of the crisis in 2003. Lessons learned was that Lego will focus on the bricks and bricks only.
