Pirates and Treasure VIP Add On Pack

Pirates and Treasure VIP Add On Pack

©2022 LEGO Group

A few weeks ago four new 'VIP add-on packs' were found at LEGO customer services building instructions portal, but without instructions or pictures, thus it wasn't clear what they were.

Today, small images of three of them have been added, so we now have some idea. They appear to contain a selection of random pieces that you can use to enhance your models or in MOCs. Some of the parts look quite interesting, as you will see after the break, and in our set inventories.

It's not yet known exactly how and when they will be available, but if I had to guess I'd say they'll be VIP exclusives that'll you’ll be able to acquire in the rewards centre in exchange for points.

40512 Fun and Funky VIP Add On Pack

40512-1

40513 Spooky VIP Add On Pack

Image not yet available.

40514 Winter Wonderland VIP Add On Pack

40514-1

40515 Pirates and Treasure VIP Add On Pack

40515-1

Thanks to Robert at PromoBricks for the tip-off.

By in Netherlands,

Those look cool, I hope they will have sufficient stock…

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I want all of them =D

Gravatar
By in Norway,

Yes please to the 40512 Fun and Funky pack and 40515 Pirates and Treasure pack. Hope they will stock up on these, the race to aquire these will be crazy.

Gravatar
By in United States,

These look incredibly neat! The parts selection is a lot more varied and interesting than your typical "Xtra" polybag or the like.

For me the "Fun and Funky" and "Winter Wonderland" packs feel most appealing, with the former including a wide variety of colorful parts and the latter including an interesting selection including rare Trans. Light Blue Opal parts. The "Pirates and Treasure" pack seems less interesting mostly because the kinds of parts it contains are ones I already have enough of for my collection, but I hope it'll be appreciated by Pirates builders.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm seeing a lot of really fun and interesting pieces like saxaphones, pineappples, gold chickens, pigs, and a lot of other treats. I'm sure a lot of people would be interested.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Stock will be a nightmare, these look great! I already want them! Those pigs are always welcome and who doesn't like pink frogs? The chickens would have been better if they where just normal white with eyes painted on but still worth a look by the parts in there. Wonder how many VIP points these packs will take and how many parts they will be.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Nice! I'll have them all, times 2. This is a great idea.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It's a nice concept, but if it's points based mine have been screwed up for a while. They're stuck at 444 no matter what I order

Gravatar
By in Canada,

You can look at the parts in each pack on Bricks and Pieces. The spooky one is rather tame, black frog and cool witches hat with hair seem to be the stand outs for that pack.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The set inventories can be viewed here at Brickset too.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'd love to get a couple of the Pirate ones to add to Barracuda Bay. Spooky one sounds cool and I can't wait to see what it looks like!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

These looks nice, so it's a good thing they will probably make 10 units of each.

Oh that is soo much better, thanks Huw! I was curious how many of each piece it would be and that answered all my questions about these except the vip point cost. These look great and I will have a hard time deciding which I like more and where to start! The Fun and Funky as well as the Winter Wonderland really stand out for me. So many cool pieces.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I like these giant Xtra. I expect/want Space and Castle themed ones too.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Nice, I don't know why saxophones in particular are associated with a winter wonderland, but I'll take it! Now if only there were an add-on pack with non-theme-specific air tanks, ray guns, rocket motors, fins, and jet packs... preferably in blue and grey.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Imagine if a goat was in one of those packs... people would go crazy! Even a sheep would suffice.

Gravatar
By in Norway,

2 Pigs even :D

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

If they are to be picked up with VIP points, you'd have to place 4 orders within 60 days to get them all if you can still only redeem one VIP code per order

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ooh. I just built the Barracuda Bay, and found it odd that it came with an odd number of cannons. This pack will be greatly welcomed. The pieces could also go with my castle sets a bit I suppose.

Lovely elements in the winter pack as well, always a sucker for crystal pieces.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

If they price those reasonable, people might spend some of their points on them! Well, who am I kidding...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

What! Lego are offering VIPs actual bricks and pieces instead of all the current digital or paper tat? I must be dreaming.

Gravatar
By in United States,

No goats?

Gravatar
By in Serbia,

Where is the goat and sheep add-on?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Would be perfect 'pocket-money' packs if they went on general sale.

Gravatar
By in Portugal,

Yes!! Another rumble!

Guys, I'm ready...

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I want the Pirates one - several if possible.

And perhaps the fun and funky one, after all, it contains a Classic Space orange helmet! Two even.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Fully expecting these to be in short supply just like the coins. I currently have plenty of points available so hopefully we will find out how we can get them soon. I also hope they won't be an in store only promo.

Yeah, I won't be able to get them either, nor any VIP reward for that matter. My rewards page is blank no matter what I do. Customer service couldn't help. So, I've given up on VIP.

Service packs are back?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I hope they don't wear out the frog mould making all of these!

Gravatar
By in United States,

That Fun and Funky pack seems to have the classic space helmet in orange. Would this be its first appearance apart from the Minifigure Visual History book?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Ooh, these look great, they'll be fun and useful for fleshing out all kinds of builds. I hope LEGO get their stock levels sorted with these as look like they'll have a very wide appeal to all kinds of customers. I can't see a need for these to be limited edition or collectible so hopefully they won't be in short supply.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'd certainly be interested in these packs, the pieces are so useful.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Can’t wait to find out all of these are already sold out! More desktop backgrounds and coloring sheets, anybody?

Gravatar
By in United States,

@EGRoberts:
It's a dark-bley frog, which is profoundly less exciting. Oddly, all four packs do include frogs in at least one color. It looks like the only other shared mold across all four packs is a 1x2 plate.

There is a rather out-dated cliche of someone playing saxophone (usually in a Santa costume) on the street corner while soliciting small cash donations for charity around the holidays.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm sure I'm gonna want the spooky pack, shame we don't have an image yet.

Gravatar

Gravatar

Great packs if you're looking to skeleton army-build... or frog army build...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Why-oh-why not just make these available for normal sale??

...unless someone somewhere has a dead horse of a VIP system they need to keep flogging to keep relevant.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

These look fantastic, what a great idea I can't wait to pick all of these up, especially the pirate one

Gravatar
By in United States,

Nice. Now TLG please just give us animal only xtra packs already, or at least make all of them more available individually thru Bricks & Pieces ordering.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Very slippery slope this is. What is to stop them to sell incomplete sets for 100% prices. If you want to the full experience you’re gouged into buying vip bags. Just look at video games! It stared with cosmetics and ended up impacting the gameplay. Lego now too offers some additional cosmetics but for how long?

Gravatar
By in United States,

They look cool and will be a VIP reward type item, so LEGO will make about..what..500 of each and will be unavailable after 5 minutes (if you can access the site to get them at all). But LEGO will apologize afterward so it will all be OK.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Oh, great, something else to get disappointed over when I miss out...since I'm afraid I can't convince myself they won't sell out in less than an hour. They do look like some nice collections of pieces, I admit. I hope I'll be pleasantly surprised when I try to get a few!

Gravatar
By in Italy,

I want 10 Pirates and 10 Funky, for the pigs (any chance of a goat in the Spooky?).

But I guess I'll get a grand total of 0, if it goes like the previous VIP rewards...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Small livestock, a plague of frogs, poops & pineapples, and classic Space orange helmets... oh myyyyyyy

Gravatar
By in United States,

Perhaps Bricks & Pieces will stock the parts individually as well, for those who don't need a million frogs.

They already do for quite a few of them - including the orange space helmet.

Gravatar
By in United States,

If these can only be "bought" with VIP points, I guess I need to go buy a bunch of sets! Which is the point, of course. And then I imagine you'll still need to order something for them to be shipped with. ...I think I'll just try B&P for the parts I really want- pigs!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Lego, I’m telling you now - 1x of each per account limit and ample stock. Oh, and fix the site.

Gravatar

LEGO needs to sell those as Xtra theme instead of limited stuff.

Speaking of which, any word on a reissue of the final coin? I know they brought back the Space coin after it went quickly the first time, but the last coin went even more quickly. Having managed to get all of the first four plus the 5-coin display case I’d really like to complete the set.

Gravatar

@8BrickMario :
You've got the set inventory. Since it doesn't actually build a model, that's really more informative than dumping all the parts in a pile where you can't see some of them.

@chrisaw :
To date, I don't think there are any VIP rewards that allow more than 1x per account. You could theoretically run multiple accounts, but that just splits your points up to where you have less buying power for each. It also means you're inviting them to catch you based on shipping address and shut off your access.

Adequate supply is a different matter. These may not be as hot as other offerings, just because the contents seem to be fairly easy to obtain through other sources, and there's no model to build (so no instructions of significance). I could make an attempt for them, but I don't really see anything that I can't pass up.

@Blondie_Wan:
They said they'd reissue all five coins later this year. To my knowledge, they haven't reissued any of them...yet. They also didn't say anything about the large case being reissued, one way or the other.

I pretty much spend my points as soon as I get them! Until now, there has been nothing I wanted to "spend" them on, so I just use them for discounts in-store. (I almost never buy anything online. It's not worth the stress of worrying about theft after delivery. Also, I live just 15 miles/25 kilometers from Mall of America.)

Ah, okay, thanks. I was under the impression the Space coin had in fact already been reissued. I’m good for the entire rest of the series, including the display case, but I missed out on the final coin.

I wish they’d accounted for demand a little more. I think many of us could have foreseen the Space coin would be extra-popular (not that I’m concerned about that one myself, since I got it the first time, but I’d really like for all the other fans who wanted it to have been able to get it), and as for the final coin, I know it’s self-serving of me to suggest, but I’d kind of like it if they’d made a point of producing and setting aside enough for everyone who, say, got all four previous coins plus the case, and thus was clearly likely to try to complete the set, but oh well…

Re: VIP rewards that allow more than one per account, I have noted that when redeeming rewards there’s typically a Quantity selection pulldown, defaulting to one (in fact IIRC when I redeemed the Space coin offer myself I briefly contemplated getting more than one, so I could have one go in the big case and another displayed on its own, but decided against it, and was subsequently glad I hadn’t deprived someone else of it). I can certainly say the contest entry redemptions do allow for more than one, since they typically pointedly allow for up to fifty entries.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Does every one of these things have frogs? It looks like the Winter Wonderland one has at least one reddish-brown frog, next to the top hat. I can’t quite be sure from this pic that’s what it is, but it looks like it. The Fun and Funky one clearly has a bunch of frogs, in at least three colors, no less (I see pink, yellow, and classic green), and Pirates and Treasure has gold ones (!). It seems like a pretty heavy concentration of frogs.

Edit: I see others have noted the curious abundance of frogs. Somebody’s plans for a LEGO terrarium are about to get a big boost…

I think it is quite simple. LEGO knows how many VIP accounts there are, and should have made at least half that amount in the coins, and made a limit of 1 per account until x time where they could have opened it up to another number for each account to get if there were still coins available after say one month. I mean to me VIP Rewards means if you are a VIP member then you can get this as a reward for being a member.. IMO LEGO really dropped the ball on the initial numbers for the available coins and hopefully is doing more what Im suggesting above for the next run (full disclaimer: Im missing the final coin). OR LEGO needs to plan ahead and people sign up for the coin (or a set) before they even produce them so they know the closest number to the demand for the coins. Why LEGO did not do this is one of the baffling actions they have (or in this case have not) taken in the past that makes no sense. Hopefully LEGO makes a load of these VIP Reward add-on packs, but given the inability to gauge interest of other such promos in the past, Im not holding out much hope.

@Blondie_Wan:
They may have a quantity field, but I don't think you can ever change it. When you redeem points for a single code, you are locked out of buying a second copy of that code as the box underneath it changes to "Redeemed". You are right about the raffle entries. I tend to forget them because I tend to ignore them. I'd rather spend points on sure things.

I did manage to get a full set, including the large case, but my final coin has a noticeable blemish on the rim of the reverse side. Considering some of the reviews I've seen, I count myself lucky that this is the worst I experienced, beyond having to burn an entire vacation day to even try for the last coin due to them rescheduling the drop from midnight on May 1st to mid-morning on a weekday (not that I will remain bitter about that all the way to my grave...). I've said repeatedly that I would have preferred if they had just offered a "season pass" from the start, so those of us who had the points saved up at the time could just commit to getting every code as they released. On the first of every month, they could just send out codes to anyone who opted in, allowing 60 days from issue to redeem each one. The people who seemed to be most upset about how things went later on were those who only bought the early coins (and case) so they could have a complete set, but really cared more about the later coins that they ended up missing. After that were people who only wanted the Space and/or final coins.

40512 has yellow, green, bright-pink, and reddish-brown frogs, 40513 has dark-bley frogs, 40514 has white frogs, and 40515 has pearl-gold frogs. Get one copy of each set, and you'd have 28 new frogs.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Coming back to point out the Spooky pack comes with six skeletons and the Pirates one comes with two. Anyone planning on building a Skulkin army is going to have a field day!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I've been calling for bigger "Xtra" type sets that are in an essence, just parts packs. Good idea, just not as a VIP exclusive.

Gravatar
By in United States,

All those frogs are giving me flashbacks to 3854...

Gravatar
By in United States,

@TheOtherMike:
10281 now holds the princely crown, with 101 frogs, but I think80104 (22 frogs) took it last year from Frog Rush (20 frogs). I don't think anything else even hits double digits, so 40512 should have the fourth-largest pile of frogs with 16.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Looks like the pig from 40512 isn't available in Bricks and Pieces. No big surprise there.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I hope they aren't in the VIP center, I hate trying to get stuff from there. I want the Spooky & Winter sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Probably been suggested, but I think the objective here is to have more bulk supply items that they can offer for users with smallish amounts of VIP points (or those with more than enough) to spend their points on reliably year-round, as opposed to the typical limited edition stuff that can be unreliable to even purchase.

I would suspect these will be plentiful.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Already sold out.....

Gravatar
By in Croatia,

Are those going to be widely available in LEGO Stores, or just exclusive to certain places? Because I NEED THOSE PIGS.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Frankly, I don't get the wide appeal these packets seem to have to the audience here. If I wanted some of these pieces, I would have bought them from Bricklink. Normal customers, who don't use Bricklink, will sure like them, I get this. But on this site here...? That puzzles me a bit.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

From the inventory the pirate pack is the most self contained with two skeletons, shark, map, treasure and cannon. So kids can already have some fun, together with all the other accessories, before you add it to your existing pirate world . Next up the 4 'Spooky' skeletons and cart may find a home. I'm not sure what to do with the Fun and Funky, as just reminds me of all the spares I have at the bottom of my bucket that I never use.

Gravatar

Having them available all together, in one place, at one time, in stock and hopefully at reasonable price. That's the main draw for me. Sure, they may be a few items less interesting, but a decent parts pack at reasonable price will always beat trying to order the bits I want separately. And these look to be set up to make maximum usefulness out of the pack - very little filler (at least for me).

By this logic, no more Fun, Spooky, or Winter stuff either :(

Nay, add-on packs only make sense if they have pirate sets to add onto. This is showing support for more pirate stuff (in the Creator line likely), not a sign for less.

Also, by my understanding, a good chunk of VIP users are adults buying for themselves, so it makes sense to throw some nostalgia in there too... Give me some Space and Castle next please.

Some of us might be rather obsessive collectors, and we appreciate the ability to obtain and catalog new "sets" rather than collections of loose parts. Silly? Yes. But it makes my brain happy.

40512: yellow, green, pink, brown
40513: dark blueish grey
40514: white
40515: warm gold
The only available colour you won't have is tan(brick yellow).
Currently on Lego parts: tan, brown and dark grey are out of stock.

^ Really? Huh. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, since I’ve also heard that B&P doesn’t count towards free shipping (and supposedly even triggers a shipping charge even when the rest of your order does qualify), and I personally discovered that they’re not supposed to count towards qualifying for GWPs (I actually called Customer Service to ask why the GWP wasn’t showing up in my cart). I don’t know if online PAB does, but I never use that because the selection is so limited.

Actually (looks sheepish as he write this): I went back and double-checked my last order (which was predominately B&P); seems I must have gotten VIP points, as my total jumped more than the non-B&P item's (I'll come back to it) VIP's points-worth...That said...re, written.:)

You are right about GWPs (although I could have sworn some folks 'here' said they called Lego and got the GWP...but YMMV), PAB supposed does do points, and correct on the 'Free Shipping' thing...except I found a...hack? trick? cheat...naa, I hate that word:). Anywho, if you: order B&P (say 60 GL torsos...not judging:D), then send the order back to your 'main Lego site' via checkout. Once there; don't checkout there right away, 'continue shopping'. Once you do that, you can add an item (keychain, set,...mine? Cookie Monster keychain:)). If done correct; when you go back to the 'main site's' checkout, 'Free Shipping' should be available for the whole order...

Here’s my experience. I was trying to place an order a few years ago, and came up short for the GWP. I added some B&P to round it up, and placed the order. Only afterwards did I realize that the GWP still hadn’t triggered, so I called up Consumer Affairs. The rep that I talked to told me that B&P doesn’t qualify for GWPs or free shipping, and that even if you got free shipping, adding B&P would trigger a shipping charge. She did add the GWP to my order, since I had placed an order that I expected would qualify.

The reps that you talk to have some discretionary powers, and their supervisors have even more discretionary powers. If you call them up with a problem, they might be able to help you out even in cases where the problem is just that you thought you qualified for something when you didn’t. In some cases, there may actually be a problem on their end that they need to correct. Back in January, the HP mosaic wasn’t triggering the Monster Book of Monsters GWP like it should have, and I recently found that the PU remote had a similar problem (while every other PU item worked fine).

I also just checked my recent order confirmations, and in spite of what I was told by that rep, I placed an order on 5/20 that included a small B&P purchase on top of two $20 sets and the redemption code for the final VIP coin, and didn’t get charged shipping. The two sets cleared the $35 threshold without adding B&P, but I’ve never experimented with B&P orders to see if the rules work as they were explained to me.

The other thing is people have noticed that the points total quoted during purchasing does not always match what ends up in your account. The most obvious source of discrepancies is that spending points doesn’t earn you more points, but this is never reflected in your cart. The other one that I know was an issue before VIP 2.0 was rolled out two years ago is that the points quoted for a set ignored anything to the right of the decimal (i.e. if you buy a $9.99 set, it would quote you $9 worth of points). When the purchase cleared, all the fractional points would show up in your account, in spite of the lower quote that showed up in your cart. I haven’t checked under the new system to see if they’re still underquoting the point accruals.

I have an article idea

What is the most common Lego Minifigure in sets
Not character, minifigure.
It could be a variant of a minifig or a minifig with one variant.
