Mini Disney Castle discovered

LEGO's product certification database has once again revealed a hitherto unknown set that, presumably, is destined for release soon.

Although the picture does not reveal much detail, 40478 Mini Disney Castle looks to be small-scale Architecture-style rendition of the famous landmark, which should be far more affordable and easier to display than the five-year-old 71040 Disney Castle.

Cool, but probably way to expensive to get. I wonder what set it will be a GWP with? It seems to specific to be a regular GWP like the sail boat

I wonder if this is where the white masonry bricks originated from, and not the rumored Peach's Castle.

It's not necessarily a GWP, it looks too big to be one to me.

The 40xxx series is usually allocated to items only available directly from LEGO, not just GWPs.

No way that's a gift with purchase. They're reusing the same (once) exclusive Mickey, and judging by the price of previous Disney sets, this could easily be £40-50.

In August, I used up the rest of my 2021 Lego budget on the big Disney castle because I was worried it might retire and be replaced by a more expensive and more detailed version. I seem to be 100% off in my worries! The castle brings back great memories of my entire family of nine gathering after dinner on Sunday evenings to watch The Wonderful World of Disney while enjoying Mom's homemade fudge or toffee. I will be very happy to have two versions of it in the future:) In fact, this one might make great gifts for my siblings!

I don't understand why Lego would make it public in their product certification database, but not put it up properly on Lego.com so we can see some proper pictures, as a marketing strategy that just seems dumb

@Huw any insights into why they do it like this?

My guess is it will be released as part of Disney World's 50th anniversary that starts Oct 1st

Most likely the left hand of LEGO doesn't know what the right one is doing :)

Seeing this (and the old castle of course) just make me want an Architecture Neuschwanstein Castle.

A couple of years ago that part was also available in standard red but so far has not turned up in any sets

Disney has some nice stuff, too bad anything by Disney is on my "do not buy" list.

I think Lego’s mistaking these “castles” for the castles fans want. No, we don’t mean Harry Potter, Peach’s or Disney castles.

That could be a mold test, of sorts, color. I’ve seen a number of unreleased parts in red, most notably, Vader’s helmet & the ghost piece.

To be fair, some of us obviously do.
Even if you and I are not one of those fans.

Not necessarily so, could well be made for the model builders in the park or for a set never released. My friend bought them of BL but I seem to remember he said the seller got them from a LEGO shop

I hope it isn't a GWP.

The Disney Castle is only five years old? When it came out I really wanted it but didn't get it since I didn't have a place for it. Fast forward to now, they've done such harm to all of their brands, that it's a company I strongly detest at this point.

Now THIS is a Disney castle that fits in my budget. :)

Yes, that is finally a castle... but far from the caste we wanted!

Funny, because I want all three of those. I mean I’m not a huge Disney fan and we just walk past the castle without making a big deal about it whenever we go to Disneyland (wrong park, I know, but I live in the western US so we can’t really go to WDW) but seeing an affordable version of the castle is pretty cool. I see dozens of people demanding LEGO to make a Peach’s Castle set and the Hogwarts stuff sells well so it’s only wise for them to make those. Granted, I’d love it if they brought back the Castle theme but the other castles will make about as much money, if not more.

By in Germany,

I have the original large one, and even though I absolutely hate Disney as a company today, I love so many of their old movies (all the classic animated ones up to about the mid Nineties) and TV shows (Duck Tales, Gummy Bears) and even some weird non-animated movies like The Black Hole, Flight of the Navigator or the Cat from Outer Space (plus the first three Herbie/Love Bug ones) that I still have a soft spot for some of their material. Not that I would ever consider visiting one of their parks or subscribing to Disney+ or whatever. They already have enough of my money.

The Mickey in 71040 has a dot on each leg of his pants, this one doesn't seem to have it. Also I think (the picture is very grainy after all) that this one is missing the cloth piece, making it really only a re-release of the torso.

I would rather it be a stand alone set than a GWP. GWP usually means "there's no way to get it".

By in Netherlands,

LEGO just released 31120 , it's on Backorder in the US , so I can understand some frustration getting it , but it has been the first big non-licensed castle since 2013 or 2017-2018 if you count Nexo ( 70323 is honestly amazing).

Of course I'd like to see more figures/horses/accesoires for it, but along with the Blacksmith , LEGO did give castle fans a lot more then past years, just like 2020 was a good Pirate Year since the last wave in 2015.

Unfortunately the 70437 Hidden Side castle just vanished and was only on LEGO stores for 4 months, very very short lived.

But yeah , I can fully understand if someone just got into LEGO now, has no idea of the past 10 years of sets, that there are no constant Pirates/Castle/Spaceship available , while licensed have been very consistent (altho Harry Potter did have a 7 year break after the 2011 sets.

Nexo did get me back into LEGO so I can look past the colors and more sci-fi nature of some of it, in hindsight it was much more an action vehicle theme, instead of a Castle theme, but it wasn't space either, it had lots of cool figs and accesoires, and the interior detail on 70357 was pretty cool with the bedrooms and dining room.

I do hope LEGO will supply Castle/Pirate/Space fans with more regular figure/accesoire packs and 3-in-1 sets, because even there's rumour that 21322 is possibly retiring after this year.

I’m curious what specifically Disney has done that makes it so detestable to many of you? I’m just not aware of what they’ve done to damage all their brands or earn so much ire. I’m sort of wary of giant corporations in general. I’m sure they’re full of the usual kind of mindless evil those institutions breed. But I just am ignorant of specific wrongdoings that are so egregious.

By in United States,

I’d love to get the current Disney Castle, but the price is just so high. I kind of figured that if I were to get it we would be doing so at Disney World, but of course our vacation plans have been delayed by 2 years now. Certainly this smaller set looks great and will feature a much better price tag, but I do hope the larger set stays on the shelves until at least March/April as it seems like we will finally get to go Orlando over Spring Break after canceling our trips for the past two years.

Kind of like how they mistake Star Wars for classic space?

No, more like how AFOLs tend to mistake what they want for what everyone wants...

To be fair, I think Disney is doing a lot better in the past years, shifting from republican humping corporation to a little family friendly conglomerate. Sure it might be out of corporate greed, but if the road to hell is paved with good intentions, might the opposite also be true?

Not exactly the same. The previous set has a Mickey with a yellow bow tie; this Mickey has a red bow tie. Slight difference.
