Santa's Sleigh revealed!

Santa's Sleigh

©2021 LEGO Group

A very dodgy-looking website of a Malaysian toy shop has revealed another Christmas seasonal set: 40499 Santa's Sleigh. Given the dubious provenance I wasn't going to post it, but most other fan media sites have now done so, so I might as well!

It's such an obvious thing to make a model of that it's surprising it's not been done before. I am sure it will fly off the shelves when released, which presumably will be October 1st.

By in Venezuela,

I NEED this set, 4 reindeers

Gravatar
By in Iran,

If we count the sleigh in 10245 Santa's Workshop it's been done before but the reindeers in that set are brick built and the sleigh is quite a lot smaller, this is a massive improvement in every way though I think the brick built reindeers are still charming in their own way.

By in Hungary,

Neat!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Will need to buy two sets to get all eight reindeer.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Definitely going to buy this

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Looks good. The one from Santa’s workshop has two long stocks to connect the reindeer that had a flimsy attachment to the sleigh. I am also pretty sure there is anther sleigh albeit even smaller still and less ‘authentic’ looking. Can’t remember which set but every year I need to decide which one to display because you can’t have more than one Santa flying around at Christmas!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

A sleigh full of presents! Absolutely magnificent!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Might need 3 sets. Don't forget Rudolph!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

What's the website link? Having spent time living in Malaysia I can say that the website is probably genuine!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Nice... The same reindeer + a smaller sleigh came with 10275

Gravatar
By in United States,

For those of you who want Rudolph, why not use the Harry Potter’s patronus instead? Maybe Rudolph is Santa’s patronus!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Huw, any idea on this year’s winter village set?

Gravatar
By in United States,

This will go nicely with my Polar Express MOC!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

That’s a sleigh? It is huge! Looks to me more like a demilitarised tank on skis.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is so adorable that I might have to buy multiple! one for my winter village, another to display on its own…

Gravatar
By in United States,

This isn't this years Winter Village set, is it?

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

Reindeer battle pack!
Looks nice, the sleigh feels a bit oversized though. Hope they don't make it some limited exclusive stuff instead of the retail availibility.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Wow

Gravatar
By in Australia,

@huw there is a second image (of the box reverse) on that same page…
@PaNic I’m not sure about that… I wonder that there aren’t multiples of Santa and his sleigh, it would help explain how he can deliver all around the world in a single night.

Gravatar
By in United States,

WOAH a teddy bear and a guitar... plus those reindeer...hmmmm

me need

LEGO Advent Calendars release September 1st, and the Star Wars one already sold out. (personally not interested in that set but yeah, its sold out within 1 week in Europe)

Ever heard of Santa-NK1 aka Santank?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

No. The big Winter Village set is rumoured to be a cottage and to be called "Santa's Visit".

Gravatar
By in Australia,

While the sleigh seems proportionally quite huge, I love the fact that it comes with four reindeer (the other five reindeer probably caught covid and have to quarantine). This is a must-have, for me.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I bought a santa Torso recently and I already had the dual moulded legs to make mine so I just need the Reindeers! Lol

Gravatar
By in United States,

Definitely looks huge. Sadly it's gonna be pricey presumably and would be off the shelf in an instant.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Need to have a contest to use the parts to turn it into a reindeer battle pack

Gravatar
By in United States,

I have not been able to get reindeers via BnP so I'll be buying at least 2 of these!

Gravatar
By in United States,

There was also the sleigh in 10275 Elf Club House - no Santa included, but you could always through one in. Smaller, but I think the size was more mining-scale.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

battlepack...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Based on the price for that link, probably be a $40 US/$50-55 CAN/30-35UK set. and $70 for NZ if they do have it.

Gravatar
By in Malaysia,

@Huw The site dodgy-looking and not updated because the seller main platform is Lazada and Shopee (South East Asia's Amazon). But they (father-son duo) are very reputable. Have been buying from them many times over.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@PaNic:
Of course not! You have one driving a vintage car with an elf and some presents in the rumble seat, preceded by eight reindeer riding white scooters and one riding a red scooter. And you have the lizardy one riding a lime and dark-red sleigh with bone runners, behind eight tiny green velociraptors and one dark-orange one (as they land on a certain house made of bedrock). And you have the grumpy green one glaring at a large Christmas tree. And you have a few more standing outside of businesses with red kettles and bells.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I got my full compliment of reindeer from BnP a while ago but I may need to buy two of these when they release. That sleigh and all the gifts are awesome.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The set looks great! I wish they would have gone all out and had 8 reindeer. Might have to modify this set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

yes!!!

*Santa sold separately.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I have 40010. It was changed a little and rereleased as 40059. The deer head was used again in 40287. Has a very British name, interesting it seems that all the other sets were called "Santa's Sleigh" on both sides of the pond.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Would I be a horrible if I built this set...and put my COL176 directly in front of it...well, the song IS a modern holiday staple.:)

Gravatar
By in Norway,

This has been an exceptional year for animal moulds, keep up the good work Lego ;)

Gravatar
By in Switzerland,

I have the impression that this will be out of stock as fast as last year’s 40426, which means it’s almost unobtainable...

Gravatar

"Now THIS is pod-racing!"

Wreath was in stock for over a month, at least in North America. So not that quick. Though true it should have remained available through December. One issue is the online limit was stupidly set to 20 originally.

One hiccup with this sleigh set, it looks like you can't change the nose colors.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I was able to secure 8 reindeer from Lego BAP last year, so this is hilarious. Though with this sets' almost guaranteed popularity I'll probably still be glad I secured those reindeer. I do really like the sleigh build also so will try to get one for sure. Awesome set.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@Huw Remember our 6-scale 246-2 ? :-)

Gravatar
By in Norway,

Still not reindeer…
These are deer/stag…
*sigh* I blame Disney - but they finally got it right in Frost, though…

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Who else zoomed in to see if they were on Santa’s nice list...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

is the Sleigh I or Reindeer battlepack (as BrickFinder coined it)? :D

Lasted, I think, 10 days in Australia.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Gonna have to buy loads of these, I want to recreate the Phoenix Park!!!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

*cough* has anyone checked the Australian store’s seasonal offerings?

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

Took me far longer than I should have liked to work out what the four extra bricks/tiles were for.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It's missing the jet engine but that is easily remedied...

"

Lasted less than three days in Germany. In our local store according to staff the wreath sold out within two hours! They were supposed to get more stock but this never happened. Very weird situation.
I guess there were more Technic Ospreys sold in total than Christmas wreaths, at least in Europe.

Well kids, I certainly hope you have been good this year, cause it looks like Santa just took out the Pearson home. Incoming!

Gravatar
By in United States,

While I don't need another Santa or sleigh or reindeer....this is still a must buy! Christmas can't come soon enough (it is the most wonderful time of year after all).

@Boettner_Builds @kelano28 glad you caught the reference.

@Jacopyright Frost? Haven’t heard of that particular program. Yeah, folks have been misidentifying reindeer for decades. Rankin & Bass were pretty bad offenders as well.

It all depends on what you feed your reindeer...

Gravatar
By in United States,

The reindeer in the classic stop-motion animated Rudolph show all look like white-tailed deer, which may explain why these reindeer also are tan-brown. (That show is probably what @SearchlightRG is referring to with his "Rankin & Bass" comment. It came out around the time I was born, over 60 years ago, and may well be the original source of the confusion.) Not fair to blame Disney; the reindeer in the Frozen sets, while definitely looking like animation rather than just a stylized animal, is much more suitably colored and shaped. Unless that's actually a caribou....

Are there true New World reindeer at all? What's the distinction between a reindeer and a caribou? In any case, I prefer brown reindeer even if they only exist in animated Christmas stories!

Oh, and @PurpleDave, you forgot my favorite sleigh--the ramshackle sled being pulled by one overburdened dachshund-cross wearing a heavily modified single antler tied to his head with black thread...the brick-built dog from the Monster Burger Truck might be a good starting place for Max.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@sklamb:
Reindeer are just a subspecies or caribou. I’m not sure why they’re identified differently. There used to be an Arctic Reindeer that was native to Greenland, but otherwise all Western Hemisphere species are called caribou.

And I most certainly did not forget the green Santa who glares at trees. Or Max, who I represent with a chihuahua piece. I don’t do either the sleigh or the antler, but another member of my LUG does both. The problem is, the chihuahua looks more like Max, but is too small to accommodate an “antler”. He uses a larger dog that doesn’t resemble Max at all, but it’s big enough to add an antler to.

Ah, that's all right then. And thanks for the info on caribou vs reindeer!

Gravatar

BTW, whatever you call them, they make a tasty sausage. I had some in downtown Anchorage, and again at Latitude 62 outside Talkeetna.

"Frost" is the Norwegian title (possibly other languages as well) for Frozen. Since it's also an English word, it's pretty natural to forget to check if it needs to be "translated" back.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I guess it was pretty much inevitable once the Harry Potter "stag" patronus piece appeared that sooner or later they would do this!

Not strictly reindeer but probably as close as TLG is gonna get at this point. Grey might have been a better colour choice than the brown but I'll take it anyway!

Hi, I am from Malaysia and I can say that this retailer is legit but his price are always higher than retail price at first. For example, he sells the set 40516 for RM350 when it first came out which is around 80 USD. So i don't recommend using his price as the real retail price

If you swap out the red bricks for black ones, you've got the new Batmobile.
