Has Vidiyo Bandmates series 2 been cancelled?
Posted by Huw,
43108 Bandmates Series 2 minifigures were set to be released during the last quarter of the year, but it's now looking doubtful whether they actually will be.
LEGO has cancelled orders from independent retailers in Europe which suggests that they will either not be released at all or will be available exclusively from LEGO outlets.
However, they are not listed at LEGO.com except on the Singapore and Malaysia pages of the site, which are both served by certified stores, so it's not possible to purchase them directly from there. The certified stores' websites do not list Vidiyo at all, so they will probably not be available from them, either...
Were you looking forward to buying them?

That lego.com page is bogus! We never got any Vidiyo sets officially sold here and have seen no word on Vidiyo being sold here! The bandmates have zero chance of releasing here and are probably cancelled in most regions
I emailed LEGO about this last night, and this is what they had to say:
“As we're placing LEGO VIDIYO on hold for 2022, it won't be affecting the release of the 43108 Bandmates Series 2 blind boxes on the 1st of October 2021. Our current plans for pausing this theme don't affect any of the products being released in 2021.”
So it appears that they will still be available directly from LEGO, at the very least. As for other retailers, it’s anyone’s guess.
Edit: This information may only be reliable when considering North America, I’m unsure how it will play out in other regions.
Hilariously I just picked up my order of 43105 Party Llama BeatBox a few hours ago from a seller who had these imported...
I need some of those hair pieces. LEGO better release them or I'll.. I'll... not gonna be able to buy them.
I still think this should have, at least, be a mix of minifigs and minidolls, but I'll be fine if I just get the hairs XD
I wanted to get these - I have every set and minifig from Vidiyo so far! I am keeping my fingers crossed that they will still be released somewhere!
There's a couple of the minifgs I'd like but I admit I'd have waited until the price was right or purchased via BrickLink to avoid the hassle of blind boxes.
They look cool honestly but blind boxes are just vile.
My order through Minifigure Maddness has been cancelled as Lego have let them down. It's a shame as I was looking forward to these - we'll see if they appear anywhere else.
I only want the blue alien.
@Huw, Economies of scale would suggest that they won’t be available anywhere, not even through lego.com or LEGO stores.
However, LEGO will want to recoup its investment in any new moulds so those parts may yet appear elsewhere, e.g. in BAM, a future CMF series or even a line like Ninjago. That may also be true of prints but as the cost of developing prints is significantly lower, that’s less certain.
I can see those becoming incredibly expensive on the after market if they end up getting such a limited release. Make them rare, and instantly everyone will want them.
Is it just me, or are last-minute decisions regarding the sale of fully-developed sets getting more common?
I do wish they'd either get really successful or disappear completely... It's getting a bit boring having the 'Discounts at Amazon' section permanently swamped with Vidiyo!

I won't.
Damn. Yes I was looking forward to buying them, though realistically only once discounted from the high RRP. I've now got a full Series 1, three Beatboxes and all the stages, all on heavy, heavy discounts.
The LEGO website has been changing its info on Series 2 recently day by day. They've been up there to click on with redirections to other websites for purchase. The first time I was directed to a website with an Arabic logo and was able to add them to my cart, but I didn't understand the currency so I didn't order, I've been sent to two other websites on separate occasions neither of which had the product listed. One was called Shopping Mall I think... It's a bit of a shambles really.
I wonder if a complete set of Series 2 is actually the Surprise Gift when you spend £170 on the UK Lego website at the moment...
It will be a real shame if Vidiyo is ended early. I think it had, like Hidden Side, more to give. Also, I'm partial to an underdog, especially a heavily discounted underdog :)
The sad thing is, is that the minifigs and printed elements from Vidiyo are really cool. I have been able to get some wave 1 "sets" on clearance and I think they are pretty awesome. If LEGO hadn't charged $20 for essentially a minifig in a plastic box, or hadn't put the blind bag minis in a box instead of a bag, I think this would have been a huge success.
I was hoping to get some wave 2 minis!
I like the robot with the boxy head and the vampire guitarist, but the rest of them I can take or leave. While I appreciate the designs, they also seem fairly similar to stuff Lego has already done in this range.
@Mister_Jonny said:

100% correct, but that similarity is very much intentional. All the Bandmates, Beatboxes and Stages belong to one of the nine named musical genres in the Theme. The idea was to collect a full band of your chosen genre and have them play on a suitably similar stage. Or if music's not your thing, some simple head swapping would get you a few of the craziest street gangs ever known, a la Warriors (1979) or Mystery Men (1999).
If Vidiyo ends now, poor old Discowboy from Series 1 will seem a very lonesome soul indeed. He'll probably end up busking on street corners playing old country and western songs about heartache...

Good point, maybe if they just redesign the packaging so they are in bags people will buy more of them, I have to say I finished off my Series 1 from Ebay, luckily at similar to RRP prices as the blind box is literally that a blind bag is possible to stand a chance of getting the one you want.
I also got some of the plastic box ones at 50% off.
Only wanted the Beatbox head minifig
So the nerds in marketing who have been hounding TLG to do an *actual* blindboxed minifig product get their wish and the whole series is tanked as a result.

LEGO MOVIE 3 will just be a shot for shot remake of MIDNIGHT COWBOY but done in brick.
I’ve been noticing problems with toys in green packaging. For Space Jam 2, they made a regular Marvin the Martian action figure, and one in a giant mech. The former was blister packed, while the latter was in a box with no plastic window. After a few days, any unsold copies ended up missing their heads. Pixar has a line of action figures drawn from various films that’s packaged the same way, and I recently saw a Syndrome from The Incredibles who was also headless. Bored teenagers with nowhere to hang out must have figured out the heads were removable and made a game out of collecting as many as they could.
I really want that blue dragon.
I don't care about the mobile app, but I love the minifigures. I was looking forward to buying a sealed box of the S2 BandMates to make sure I got all 12. I'll have to touch base with my local brand store to see what they know.

That was due to a trend in a Tik Tok where the goal was to steal as many heads from Lebron James action figures as possible. Guess we know what happens when they run out of Lebrons to decapitate!
No, I was not looking forward to buying them. I bought three of the first series (at different stores) and all three of them were the same minifigure. I gave blind boxes a shot and the experience was disappointing so I won't be buying any more.
Rip, this was probably my most anticipated release of the year. There were so many good figs. :(
I would hope so. Say what you will about the sets themselves but the minifigure designs are what I like most about the theme.

Sorry for going off topic, but Tik Tok needs to end.
Series 2 was probably more interesting part of this Vidiyo misunderstanding...
Oh yeah, Vidiyo... Forgot this theme existed.
For me the only interesting part of Vidiyo has been the introduction of trans-clear legs...
Force Ghost minifigures incoming? Maybe in the rumoured Dagobah set next year?

True words
And i wanted a few of these just like series 1
Only the beatbox head looks good. Everything else I think has been released in some shape of form.
I'm not surprised.
And the green swamp guy would go really good with somebody who got slimed by slimer
I was able to score a pair of the dark turquoise sharks at Brickworld Detroit, so the only thing I really still want is the black shark, which is part of the Pirates stage.
@Johnny__Thunder97:
Chime did it already. So did Ninjago. The problem is, they can do trans heads, arms, and legs, but the slender pins on hands and hips would snap off if they were trans, and the arm sockets would split if the torsos were. Any Force Ghost would have to be one or more special moods so there’s no articulation.

...or they could recolor it in reddish brown for minifigure-scale Clayface from DC!

Wish I could.
Yes I was going to prioritize a whole box of them for day one.
I happen to appreciate zany things.
The less sense it makes that something exists, the more joy I get that it does.
But clearly some people are spoilsport babies who cheer for someone’s creative output to never see the light of day.
I didn't have much interest overall. There are some neat prints and pieces that I would otherwise like to have. But at $5 and a blind box...pass. I bought a few based on a NEW box and pictures of people labeling them online...still ended up with duplicates. So I'm going to pass whether released or not. Maybe the aftermarket will keep prices low if I ever find someone else to take the hit and resell.
I just wanted the slime guy.
@Capybara554321 said:

I also just wanted the slime guy- maybe the vampire woman.
Sometimes the easiest way to make someone want something is to tell them that they can’t have it.
It might be also the two way dumping of the deliveries. I have seen at Smyths (ex TRU in Germany/Austria) the whole line went -60% (the BeatBoxes even -90% but that might have been a mistake pricing taken from Bandmates). I'd be surprised if such retailer would even want to order more Bandmates if they know that such an app dependent theme is cancelled (the one year pause just reads like that ) Enough and/or big retailers do that too and there is incentive to produce it for the smaller ones.
Supposedly the retailer orders were also behind the demise of SW constraction figurines (the unreleased droid and speeder were already in retailer catalogs) or last year of Nexo Knights.
If a smaller first run of the product happens then it is easier for TLG to keep it in-house or limited (like for example Monkie Kid outside APAC region)
I just wanted a few parts to use for castle. Lol
Vampire Bassist arms, maybe legs and Dragon Guitarist torso.
TLG spent all this money on these new prints and they may not even sell them, and yet we got a stupid pirate instead of a peasant print in 31120. Yes I am still salty about that. GIVE US PEASANTS.
I really hope these release smoothly and widely. I want the monsters (especially the Slime) and DJ BeatBox is a fun novelty character. I can't sympathize much with Vidiyo at all because LEGO's app themes verge on the "definition of insanity"- they keep trying, and somehow expect to succeed with it after many failures. The blind boxes were also a horrible move. Blind bags create more plastic waste, though, so I'd honestly love if LEGO mixed them and released cardboard-boxes figures who were identified on the box. Still, the character designs were interesting and tapped into some of the CMF appeal, which is nice now that the standard CMF series happen less frequently.
They are fun and interesting designs but I only bought three of the Series 1 Bandmates after they went on clearance at Walmart. (I got the three I wanted by using the case sort order on a newly stocked case.) I only want the Robot DJ and Female Pirate of Series 2 but I would have bought some of the others for their guitars and accessories.
The other Vidiyo sets are so outrageously overpriced that I haven't bought any, even at 50% off clearance. Maybe if the price drops more... Maybe LEGO's next augmented reality app will not be junky and therefore the sets last longer.

Likewise. I got the set at -50% to -60% and I really like the minifigures and they are nice part sets.
The theme is a bit too colourful for my taste, but this series sure has some interesting minifig parts and accessories.
Wanted the Gummy Bear to partner up with the blue one :(
I need that hair for Marceline
I love the aesthetic of this theme, and even enjoy the idea of the blind box.
But the partnership with a music company that doesn't make music I enjoy is definitely driving the price out of my budget.
I feel like LEGO just made the Vidiyo to see if the fad would take off. There are thousands of products each year that just go straight to the discount bins but that 1 apple that for some reason strikes gold and becomes a fad in every elementary school. Unfortunately, Vidiyo seems to be destined to the discount bin.
You can already hear scalpers and resellers frothing at the mouth.
A shame, I really wanted some of these and intended to pick them up on bricklink because blind-boxes are even worse than blind-bags.
LEGO really sh*t the bed with this theme (and in many, many other things lately).

Seriously. This is like the fourth AR thing they've tried, and It fails every time.
I'm guessing some younger marketing people at the company keep pushing for it. That, or it's some sort of self-sabotage, because if you put a phone or a tablet into the hands of kids, they're gonna play with that, not the bricks. It's like they're trying to make kids play LESS with LEGO.

Celebrity Sighting!!! Love your Channel and I agree, mini-dolls should have at least been included if not used exclusively given the market they were likely aiming at.
I've been wondering about series 2 myself though. I had planned to order some blind boxes on Friday the 1st. I've read some rumors the line is cancelled in Europe but not in North America ... and that it will release on 10/15? Who knows. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
^ It’s not AR specifically but tech generally. Over the decades, LEGO has found spend on kids toys & games going periodically but heavily to electronics in one form or another. And that keeps worrying LEGO’s owners into thinking that a generation may come along that no longer finds physical bricks appealing. So they keep trying their hand at electronics, sometimes successfully (Mindstorm, Mario) but mostly not (Dimensions, Vidiyo).
No! I need more spooky figs since that is a genre Lego has been lacking in for the last few years.
I was only wanting the trans-pink legs for my monochrome collection.

That's it, isn't it? Phones are designed to be so addictive that Lego can't complete. I guess it's not a coincidence that the electronic themes that do work, Mario and Mindstorms, don't involve phones in any major way.
"Were you looking forward to buying them?"
Nope, but thanks for asking.
I wanted some of these.
If they don't come to Walmart, how will I get them on clearance?

I think a sand blue or aqua torso and hips would be an acceptable compromise, and the printing could blend out the difference. Arms, legs, and head are enough to sell the ghostly appearance.

Take away "discount" and you're right.
These look way cooler + more useful than the first run, so hopefully enough released to stock BL. But still wouldn’t be too heartbroken otherwise…
Jeez Lego this is ONLY thing people WANTED from this theme. Just pack them not in boxes and they will sell.
I just out of touch on what's the appeal and draw of this line?
Are kids really into this?
I dig all the new recolors and wigs, new printing/graphics on the legs and torso's.
These new elements should've just been used for the CMF line.
I think the blind boxes were a very bad idea. I would have bought more of series 1 if I'd known what I was getting.
I don't know how they make it work with less plastic packaging (a small peep hole maybe so you can see some of what's inside? Though that wouldn't work with paper inner bags if they do that unless they use some kind of code on the bag). But I really think a lot of LEGO consumers are not interested in the pure blind bag experience.
@Paperdaisy said:

I am not interested in Random CMF at all, as long as they aren't really sold in physical stores here at all it's a clear disadvantage, Online retail is huge in Netherlands, but buying random blind figs online does not appeal to me, especially not at €5 (or even higher via secondary market).
I'm not going to travel to a LEGO store just for some CMF either.
I can understand the appeal of small collectibles, and this isn't new, neither a LEGO thing, but in the age of online buying (and shipping cost on most sellers small purchases), they don't feel like impulse buy to me.
And note, this varies a lot per customer, or country, but even before COVID , years before it, physical toy stores have been closing here for over a decade in favor of massive growth of online sales, it's probably different for countries/areas that have large warehouse/brand stores like walmarts, targets etc that have those things regularly stocked on shelves, even regular non-blind polybags are hard to find here.
Instead of the Beatboxes and Bandmates, the theme couldve benefited from more themed Stage sets imo.
Now people complain about changing Bags to Boxes, so I can imagine when people's ability to "feel" the packs will take away a lot of appeal of CMF, but regardless of packaging, Online buyers are automaticly at disadvantage regardless. (and yes people come up with the age old comment of "buy them second hand "new" via secondary market", that kind of defeats the point for me.)
I don't know what to make of this. Between the constant rumors and these trends, and then the repeated positive messages that "nothing Vidiyo 2021 is affected by the 2022 break", plus the fact that I've been in two stores this weekend to secure a box and both said it shouldn't be an issue (including Toys R'Us), I can't imagine that Lego would pull the plug 3 days before launch. That means tons of stores would already have the October 1st stock in storage, as was also confirmed by my two stores.
I certainly hope they make it through and that there's no scalping madness that will prevent legit fans of the series from getting them, after Vidiyo enduring such endless waves of hate. If scarcity suddenly makes them even more expensive, I'll go berserk...

Not sure I agree... I'd say hold off making them till we can have totally trans clear.
I was planning on buying two of the latest minigfigures (the gold beatbox fella and the Gene Simmons-esque bass player). I'd pick up a few on closeout eventually but it looks like that will not be the case. REALLY disappointed that LEGO (appears) to have misfired on both Vidiyo and Hidden Side. Both had/have real potential but are just clunky to interface with.

We can find the CMFs in supermarkets and some other chain stores here in the UK fairly easily, thankfully.
I agree that buying on the secondary market isn't the same.
I hope they do get released (and make it to Australia), I want the vampire at the very least.
@jsutton:
It certainly worked for the CMF Vintage Cop. Worst CMF of all time...until people found out it was packed one per case. Then it was money in the bank if you found one.
@rishi_eel:
Oh, yeah, there are definitely a few color options they could use for opaque Force ghosts. It’s just trans colors that aren’t really an option.
I was actually really looking forward to collecting them. I hope they still released.
While Vidiyo was, on the whole, a bit of a failure (and the funny thing was, the mid-year catalogues that popped up in Australia back in July? Their front cover was a big thing about how awesome and exciting Vidiyo was ... and the theme had already failed) ... but the best part about the whole exercise was the minifigs. I hope this set gets released. I really want the dragon and the gummy bear, but I'd like to pick them all up.
Honestly until this article I had forgotten these even existed. I was just at my local Don Quijote and they didn't have them and now that I think of it, I have never seen these in Japan in my area or on Amazon Japan. But then I wasn't ever really looking. Did these get a global release or were they test stocked in select regions only?
Big party in the Osprey.
Hope these eventually get released. The figs and printed tiles are the best part of the Vidiyo theme. Some of the characters are almost Fabuland 2.0.
Looking closely at the minifigs, I do need to add one of them to my hunger of zombies. I might also want the bodies from the slime creature, but I don’t really need the hat.
Why am I here reading about Vidiyo?
Surely this is a question that could be answered directly from LEGO having been posed by one of the hundreds of many Ambassadors globally?
*Ahem*(pitch-pipe)*TWEEET*
Lego just killed its Vidiyo line,
Lego just killed its Vidiyo line,
Well; they say "it's being redesigned"
Still don't think they'll get it right next time...
Sorry; and with apologizes to 'the Buggles': I had to get that off my chest.
And the thing is: I don't hate Vidiyo; the figures are neat, but there are problems. The 'app' for one thing; though 'not for me', other have seen problems: want to use multiples of figure-type (like say Discowboy)? Tough; the app only allows one figure of that type.
I hope BM Vol.2 is released (still not listing on Canada's site), and do wish the some of these ideas could be carried over to other things: KPawp could base Fabuland 2 (or Neo-Chima:)), Hmmm...Nexo- Pirates? Maybe/maybe-not. Candylan...(finger rushes to ear), oh...oh...still being produced as a game...by 'them', ok. ETDM for Space...Robo Hip Hop too, come to think of it...Fairy Folk for Castle/Kingdoms. Only one that's 'tough' is Tropicon...unless Pariadisa 2:).
I would have bought Series 2 but only at 50% discount as I did with the rest of the sets from Vidiyo. Hope it won't be cancelled or left exclusively on LEGO.com.

If you search online for "LEGO 5007168", you'll come across this page: https://www.lego.com/en-gb/product/surprise-gift-5007168 . Although this item has no product image, it is -according to the product information- a "Collectible construction set featuring fun LEGO® BrickHeadz™ models of a German shepherd dog and a puppy sitting together in a basket."
In other words, this seems to be 40440 German Shepherd ( https://www.lego.com/en-gb/product/german-shepherd-40440 ), as the product description on that set is exactly the same as the one mentioned above.

Resellers won’t know if there’s a market for them if they don’t buy them. We had at least one vendor at Brickworld Detroit who took a chance on them, probably buying them up on discount, and had loose minifigs w/accessories (but not the tiles or bracket) at $6, or 4 for $20. If, as many people have claimed, the main reason they wouldn’t buy them at retail is the inability to identify contents when they’re in boxes, people will probably buy enough to generate a profit, and the vendor will be likely to scoop up more if they hit discount prices. If not, well, lesson learned.

"Honestly until this article I had forgotten these even existed. I was just at my local Don Quijote and they didn't have them and now that I think of it, I have never seen these in Japan in my area or on Amazon Japan. But then I wasn't ever really looking. Did these get a global release or were they test stocked in select regions only?"
They're only releasing on October 1st, so nobody had them yet.
lego can delegate new moulds to this theme but can't make a phase 2 cody helmet
That's sad. I was looking forward to them. I have really enjoyed the unique minifigs from the VIDIYO range.
Saw an article that shipping of these sets confirmed cancelled for Australia now. More fuel on the “whole line is cancelled” fire. But again, it may just be for shipping to retail partners since these sets were just drooping farts on store shelves.

...or a non-European-style magnetic piece for trains.... not everyone uses buffers in the railroad world!
Heck, while you're at it with new molds, with all the money they wasted on this theme, they could've probably revamped the goat mold for a new production run!
I planned to pick up a set or two
I saw something posted by LEGO to the LAN saying that they can't say anything until the first.
Hopefully Lego learned its lesson and never release another series of minifigures in blind boxes where the buyer has no freaking idea what they're buying (I mean, at least you can sort of guess with plastic bags). How come those marketing experts didn't see that was a bad idea? Their greediness backfired :/ RIP Series 2, I was really looking forward to its release. I hope they just delay it for a 2022 release.
...well they’re out in AU now so this article uh, really aged well eh https://www.lego.com/en-au/product/bandmates-43108
Available online at LEGO.com in NZ today - even spoke to them on the phone to check the order was valid - all good for NZ and AU apparently - the CSR wasn't so sure about the rest of the world getting them though...
Online in UK now too
I have now placed my order.
Unfortunately it doesn't buy the whole box.
Maximum 20 pieces. And I would like to have the complete series .... will they be enough?
In Italy, the shops do not know if they will be available.
Do you know something more?
Shows as "coming soon" at $4.99 each in the U.S. just now. I slept through the midnight hour so I don't know if they were available between midnight and an hour ago - but "coming soon" as of now. Ugh.
They were in stock at the Cardiff LEGO store but they only had two boxes - so presumably four full sets. Apparently there’s been such a fuss over Bandmates the store had been e-mailed to ensure they were definitely put out for sale today... Was heavily implied that was the lot though and no more would be coming in. Hoping that the boxes for S2 were packed the same as S1
