Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 5
Posted by CapnRex101,
Following two days which focused upon bounty hunting and another two that featured Imperial items, presumably that faction will change again today...
Let's open the door and find out...
Two targets are provided today and these are very poor. The colours look reasonable, but they hardly resemble anything featured within the Star Wars universe which is frustrating because slightly greater creativity could have provided something fun. For example, the targets could display the Rebel Alliance emblem, since the ideal element has been available quite recently.
Perhaps the designer could even have introduced a unique print, featuring a target with notably imprecise blaster marks, in reference to Stormtroopers' apparent inaccuracy! Alternatively, they could have constructed a target which resembles a specific character, crudely assembled by a bored Stormtrooper. After all, we see Scout Troopers improvising target practice during season one of The Mandalorian.
Overall - 1.0 - While options for interesting targets were available, these designs are as bad as Advent Calendar models become, I hope!

I knew this was coming from looking at the boxart, and it's still a disappointment.
Some people: But it is for the kids!
My kid: Meh
Oh dear, as regards today's offering the words of Emperor Palpatine come to mind "let the hate flow through you"!
AGREED
We give the gun racks a lot of hate, but let's pray these don't become a regular thing, at least the gun racks have useful pieces sometimes... AND GUNS

At least the gun racks usually look like they originate from Star Wars. These look like they originate from desperation to finish before lunchtime.
@CapnRex101:
Hey, the B-Wing did have simple dots incorporated into its paint scheme in Ep6. Granted, they were orange, and this entire advent calendar is supposedly based on The Mandalorian, but solid circles do exist within the SW/DW universe.
After seeing the unique print in today’s Harry Potter build, this one does hurt a little...
Hey, at least they’re functional, and give yesterday’s 1x1 round plate snowballs something to do besides get lost in the carpet. And they do add those super-useful bracket-like elements to one’s parts stash.
But yeah, they’re probably the nadir of this calendar. Then again, it could have been worse; they could have given us just one target instead of two…
Ouch this is as bad as it gets
They’re barely recognizable as targets. Pull them out of the calendar and hand them to someone and they’d think you just cobbled random pieces together.
Marvel: 2
HP: 2
SW: 1
If they keep gaining points in this order, it will be a tie.
Yikes. I take it back about the power blasts.
When I first saw the photo, I thought they were "landing guides" for a starship or other craft. But targets make sense because of yesterday's "snow blower".
It's builds like this that are the reason I don't buy advent calendars.

So because of one lousy build you say no to a bunch of useful and sometimes exclusive parts and to an otherwise largely enjoyable experience?
Ok, to each his own I guess...
Honestly, I was fine with this one. They're good as targets, when I tested one with yesterday's studshooter, it knocked it right over. When the Tusken stud shooter on the box arrives, you'll have a little game for the two stud shooters, with a clear success criteria

I think those are the harshest words I've ever seen you use in regards to a Lego set.
I took the stud shooter off the gun yesterday. When these turned up, I reinstated the stud shooter and found it a lot of fun firing snowballs at them to knock them over. OK, so these don't fit directly into the Star Wars universe but, in the Lego Star Wars theme and in the spirit of the Advent Calendar, I think they fit right in.
Maybe I just have a lower fun threshold than other AFOLs.

On the plus side at least it's out of the way now!

I find them disappointing because they feel rushed. I am confident the designer was trying their best, but perhaps these targets were required to replace something unusually quickly because of changing production capacity or similar.
I'm amazed you scored them that high. Surely a negative number would be more fitting.
I enjoyed shooting at them for about a minute
Idk about anyone else but I got a second baby yoda instead of these targets

Baby yoda IS good target practice, though.
Could be worse, they could be split across two days!
At the vey least they could have replaced the red tiles with tiles bearing Imperial and Rebel alliance symbols to use as actual targets :)
@YanVanLan:
I just got done pointing out how the previous two HPACs have had several exclusive minifigs (possibly beating all 11 years of Star/Disney Wars, when you factor in the 2021 calendars), and that the chess board from 2019 had a pile of black and white trophy figs. Earlier this week I was involved in a discussion about printed parts in advent calendars, how they never seem to use stickers, and how many of the prints remain one-time exclusives to their respective calendars (imagine if the snowman head from a few years ago became a common occurrence for any snowman).
@Brikkyy13:
So you got a smaller pair of targets, which take a little more skill and precision to hit? Or rather, you _will_ have gotten a pair of targets, since I don’t remember seeing Punt Yoda show up in the daily reviews.
@Norikins: Surely you can't bring yourself to shoot at Grogu! He's too adorable!

What is wrong with you?
This is the first Star Wars Advent Calendar I decided to actually get an open daily.
It's utter garbage. So much so I went and got myself last year's to open as well just to try to take the bad taste this year's is leaving from my mouth.
Next year I think I'll go back to Harry Potter only and just get the eventual good Star Wars minifigure that comes in the calendar from BrickLink.
I can't imagine the disappointment in a kid's face opening this calendar...

@PixelTheDragon:
Without having even watched a single episode of the series, I feel like you are the sort of people who were utterly shocked to see who got stabbed in the throne room on GoT. A lot of people got so invested in the social justiceness of a character early on that they were ultimately able to turn a blind eye to that same character exhibiting serious warning signs as the series progressed. As an original fan of Babylon 5, I learned three decades ago not to start out watching a new series by dividing the characters into Good and Evil, because ultimately you’ll end up hating shows you once loved because you’re angry about how they ended.
The idea of target practice in a Lego SW set is hilarious, these are also hilarious, just not for the right reasons. These are just bad.
@Montyh7:
Hey, they need all the target practice the can get. They’ve been using these since 1977, and one of these days someone might actually hit one of them.
Seeing one of the targets on its side made me think it was a Star+*% ship instead of something from Star Wars. That was kind of exciting for a minute, then I realized it was, in fact, just a target. Oh.
I'm just here to figure out what I just built
I can get behind the idea of having targets to shoot at with stud shooters. That is fine, but I agree that this build is too simple and generic. Would never guess this was supposed to be from a Star Wars calendar.
@Bhahouighf:
In 2017, 75184, they had a red snowblower for Day 16. After buying two SWACs per year from the very start, that’s the one year that I outright skipped, because it was exclusively based on Disney Wars, and that’s the one day that I kinda wish I’d bought, because it had nothing to do with Disney. Oh well, there’s always Bricklink...
I think I would have preferred a gun rack...
'Only the best is good enough'. TLG.
Not sure about that......
I would have preferred a pile of snowballs
