Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 16

Posted by ,

Beyond exclusive and desirable minifigures, tiny vehicles are consistently my favourite feature of LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendars. The last such model arrived several days ago.

Hopefully another will appear today...

The scale of this repulsorlift vehicle is interesting, approximately interacting with minifigures but featuring a tiny Astromech droid towards the front. Nevertheless, this rendition looks good and originates from the first season of The Mandalorian, when the eponymous hunter attempts to escape from Nevarro after recovering Grogu from Imperial hands.

The truncated cone which forms the Astromech droid's head is effective, matching the R6-series droid shown during the episode. The cargo area behind this droid pilot is also relatively spacious so could comfortably accommodate a couple of minifigures, even though the scaling may appear strange. Perhaps the designer could have provided something to occupy the cargo space, such as a printed crate.

Overall - 4.0 - Despite seeming rather bland, this model matches the onscreen vehicle and I like the charming brick-built Astromech droid.

By in United Kingdom,

I’m so glad you have the requisite knowledge to explain these! Even as a kid, there was at least one model every year that I couldn’t recognise, which I suppose speaks to the difficulty of finding a balance between iconic and exclusive vehicles.

I feel this would have been better with a printed piece for the astromech droid even if it were just 6059017

By in United Kingdom,

I passed, methought, the melancholy flood,
With that sour ferryman which poets write of,
Unto the kingdom of perpetual night.

This would have worked better if it was that lava boat from the final episode but you work with what you're given.

will we get the pile of snowballs that it's loaded with on the box art? hmm

Just what I thought! Slap a print onto the mech, and you can take the build seriously!
... and that's how I'm going to mod it!

I feel lots of people are gonna think this is the lava barge. They should've done that if we're getting IG-11.

I expected this to come much later, as the calendar's sled-like vehicle, but I suppose there is something else for that.

I don't think there will be one this year

Okay, this really requires a comparison photo. What IS this vehicle? I've seen S1, but I don't remember this or recognise it at all!

@MisterBrickster exactly what I was thinking, the lava boat and droid would have been an excellent choice here.

@ MisterBrickster I have a new favorite advent calendar tradition : )

By in United States,

I like this simple yet effective build a lot, though I agree with those who’ve said it would have benefited from a print. I had the same thought even before seeing this write-up and these other comments.

Some printed parts would definitely have made this more appealing, even if it was simply re-using the BB-8 head...
...darn, the Harry Potter calendar looks so much better...!

Looks like a robotic porg. Shoot it. Shoot it a lot.

I wish this came with a bunch of snowballs, especially if the idea for the calendar is the "playability" of the snowball fight.

Ah, the brown bricky thing from Star Wars.

And then, roast it. And then, enjoy it!

Apologies, a comparison photo has been added. The scene is rather dark so it is difficult to distinguish the vehicle's shape from the backdrop.

Be careful what you wish for; tomorrow on Brickset: ... and behind door no. 17: ...

By in Germany,

Once again this calender disappoints. I was so close to just rip the rest of the box open, to be done with it this morning. Instead I dissassembled the whole bunch of let downs, except for the Razor Crest, and stuffed the cannonfodder figures into the bag with their friends.

I am repulsed by this! My thanks to captain Rex for enlightening me as to what this is.

It's a sled and a tiny snowman.

This is cool, but could really benefit from a print, as others said. It would be perfect for midi-scale fighters as well!

But its made me realize how cool the ferry droid and gondola from season 1 would have been. Could have totally worked across two days, and given us a very unique figure.
