The Goat Boat

LEGO has announced 76208 The Goat Boat, an unusual set inspired by Thor: Love and Thunder!

This set contains 564 pieces and will be released on the 26th of April, with prices of £44.99, $49.99 or €49.99. An appealing range of five minifigures is also provided, including Mighty Thor.

You can view the back of the box below...

I am certainly looking forward to this set, but what do you think? Let us know in the comments.

By in United States,

You guys posted the Viking Voyager yesterday on purpose, didn't you? ;)

Gravatar
By in United States,

These are not the goats we're looking for.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Also: brick-built animals again. Bah. An otherwise perfect looking set, but I could really go for some prefabbed goats.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Additional observation: Jane's helmet has a nose. Kind of funny given that Minifigures don't have noses.

Gravatar
By in France,

Does this boat float or does this float your boat? Also; goat!

Gravatar
By in Mexico,

Love the set, the figures look unusually detailed for A Marvel set as well.

Gravatar
By in Austria,

I haven't watched any of the Marvel Movies released after Black Widow yet, so… I'm slightly confused. But I'm liking those minifigs. Probably grabbing it on sale.

One of my most wanted minifig parts is the Qui-Gon hairpiece in light grey or white. Hope they make one soon.

By in Luxembourg,

Hype left the chat.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Great set with a great price for the build and minifigures included. My only quibbles: (1) actual printed shield elements would have been nice; (2) goats, as mentioned in comments above; and (3) that Gorr fig is very underwhelming (although presumably screen accurate?).

Gravatar

Closest we'll get to LEGO Vikings nowadays, and it looks amazing!

Gravatar

At first I thought this was Brickset's early april fools joke!

By in Brazil,

I don't own any sets from the 2005 Vikings theme, but I always loved it. Finally I will get a chance to have something Viking-related.

Amazing looking set and with a good price. I'm so glad Marvel sets haven't been hit with the same tax as the SW ones.

Also, curious coincidence, given the latest Random Set of the Day!

Gravatar

Gravatar

The goat-pulled Viking longboat set we never knew we needed until now

Gravatar
By in United States,

What really gets my goat are brick-built animals. Sometimes creatively done well, but other times just fugly. The boat is nice, though!

This looks absolutely ridiculous. I cannot wait to buy it!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Looks awesome, and a reasonable price.

As a Star Wars fan it’s disappointing seeing that SW can’t learn from Marvel.

A) The pricing and B) Releasing merch before the shows to help build hype and to be available peak hype.

I hope this doesn't take the place of the rumored "creator" Viking ship that is supposed to come out this year. This one (for me), just doesn't look right

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow this is going to be a weird movie. Can't wait!

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

The build doesn't do justice to the set's moniker.

Gravatar
By in United States,

So, lacking any sort of proper harnesses, they just nailed the goats to the drawbar. Real classy, guys.

@Ephseb:
Marvel’s Thor (as differentiated from the Norse god of the same name) hasn’t always been the God of Thunder. Throg and Beta Ray Bill have both possessed Mjolnir at various times, and so has Jane. The new movie is about the latter, so no matter how serious they try to make it, it’s going to be a comedy the instant the twig who weighs less than the stunt prop hammer picks it up (unless she’s been packing on muscle since they had her hold up a Mjolnir prop at SDCC or wherever that was).

Gravatar
By in Norway,

WHAT a MISSED opportunity to FILL the boat with (moulded) GOATS!!

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

I already have the old goat moulds, but I still wish they returned here so more people could have them! These brick built ones don’t cut it IMO. It’s a shame as the rest of the set is so good and Marvel has a good bunch of figures in one set for once!

I also noticed the small image on the back of the box Valkyrie has reddish brown skin instead of medium nougat.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I’m very intrigued. Why is one of the little white LEGO pieces on the left side of the box art sticking out?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Regarding Goatgate, the goats are likely Toothgnasher and Toothgrinder from the comics, his giant flying battle goats. If so, they are often drawn as enormous in the comics (like the size of a polar bear or horse but bulkier). Assuming the movie follows suit, their options were brick built (probably the best method) or fully molded goats that would be one time use (too big to reuse as normal minifig scale goats). Two of them would have added at least $15 to the price, maybe more. Brick goats rule!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The goats disappoint, but by the nine that boat more than makes up for it. I love this set so much, the historical Lego builder in me loves it even if I didn't like marvel but I do like marvel and the Thor films are my favourites ( well I'll admit the second one isn't great but it does have some great scenes) and Taiki is my favourite director, so I'm sure to love this film but even if it was a film I'd hate I'm sure I'd still love this set. Goats are one of favourite animals too but they could've looked better but I suppose they'd've needed new parts to look better at this size.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I’m very intrigued. I noticed one of the little white pieces on the left side of the box art sticking out, and so I went to investigate and found that other Marvel sets have similar missing pieces in that white column. Anyone know why?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I was excited for this set on principle of it being a Thor set, given that he has become my favorite character in the MCU, and also on the level of weird established by the Thor: Ragnarok sets back in 2017. This exceeds my expectations in terms of the appearance of the build, the price, and the detail of the minifigures. 4 out of five having printed legs, and all but two of the printed figure parts appear to be exclusive? That's downright awesome.

Batman's cowl has always had a nose. I think it just depends on the style of helmet.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Collector_Nonas, one of the very first things I noticed is the displaced brick on the left margin. I also wonder what's the reason for that. I'm glad you mentioned it. (Although, I didn't see this on other Marvel sets.)

I’m interested to see how this works since Hella destroyed Mjolnir by pinching it.

I don't know anything about Marvel but this is awesome.

At one point there was a rumor of a Creator 3-in-1 Viking Ship coming this summer. Safe to assume that rumor was off and it's this ship rather than a Creator set?

I just searched them up and they look really intimidating in the comics. Here they look like wacky comic relief characters, which makes me feel nervous about the movie.

Looks like a fun set. The movie is directed by Taika Waititi so I think it’s safe to say that it’s going to be a great time. I’m guessing the goats we will see in the movie could never be represented by a goat figurine.

Gravatar

Great price. 2 for 1... viking.. marvel.. and a big surprize. I wonder if they are testing waters on viking sets. How well it does.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

My favourite part of this set is that dark tan Qui-Gon hairpiece for Thor. That should have been Thor's hair in the Avengers: Age of Ultron sets. It'll also be useful for other historical/fantasy figs.

My second favourite thing is all the shield designs. I would have preferred printed shield elements, but it's better than nothing.

Yes, but the difference is - and the point that ResIpsaLoquitur is making - is that the nasal in this set protrudes as if there were a nose beneath it. The CC helmets that were launched in the late ‘70s have a flat nose-guard.

What the... I LOVE IT

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Zander:
The first instance is probably the triangular helmet made for 375 back in 1978. Others include six different batcowls (at least), the LotR Rohan helmet, Gimli’s helmet, two Fantasy Castle dwarf helmets, Marvel’s Captain Marvel’s helmet, two Minecraft helmets, the Spartan helmet, the “opera Viking” helmet, and the Batlord helmet. And as already mentioned, Hawkman/Hawkgirl, and Dain Ironfoot.

Gorr in the comics looks kinda like Bib Fortuna so I was expecting them to use the Twi’lek lekku headpiece they use from Star Wars for him. Maybe that much prosthetics was impractical and they had to simplify it a bit

In fairness, Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjóstr have sometimes been described as monstrous and willful, so those adorable existing goat-molds might not have sufficed.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I don't think Gorr will actually end up looking anything like this minifigure sadly, but this set deserves to be seen for it's best parts in my opinion. Gorr's comic design would look more like Voldemort's face, with a head piece similar to some of those Ninjago snake villains, or Bib Fortuna... it would also have a more symbiotic design instead of this mummy look, but I seriously could be wrong, this might be Christian Bale's look as Gorr, only time can tell. These goats... they really don't look horrible. We should be glad LEGO gave the one the tongue hanging out. That sticker will be a pain though. I'm hoping the interior design will be epic, maybe some bunk beds or something...? It's hard to tell from the images here, but it looks like some kind of bed. Anyway, I think this set is great, and is going to sell spectacularly well compared to the overpriced Star Wars stuff we have seen so far this year.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Cool set, this reveal came out of almost nowhere since we don’t even have a trailer yet but I’ll take it. Tbh I still don’t see why Valkyrie is a king in the movie, if she identifies as a woman than logically she should be a queen? Than again, the term queen can be used regardless of gender, usually to refer to an LGBTQIA+ person (hence the “yaaas queen” sticker in the Queer Eye set) but I’ve never seen the title of “king” take that sort of meaning. I mean Disney has confirmed that Valkyrie is bi but I don’t think that fits into any of this.

Different side of the same coin. Stuff like the Batman cowls have shaped noses because the goal was primarily to conceal the upper part of the face without being so bulky it obscures Batman’s vision. Stuff like the old Castle guard helmet have nose-guards that are intended to protect your nose (and things you have to go through the nose to get to) from melee combat. For rank and file soldiers, that flat bit of metal is as much as you get, since anything more complicated would dramatically increased the time and effort needed to supply armor to a bunch of cannon fodder who the guy footing the bill probably couldn’t identify by name. For a member of royalty (or a technologically advanced alien species that still insists in parading around in platemail), when money is no object, sure, they could actually shape the nose guard to be contoured like Batman’s cowl.

In each of these cases, it still serves to define the position of a nose that doesn’t exist. Unless you put the helmet on one of the Western natives. Or Timmy. Timmy, smiting the naysayers with Mjolnir. You’re welcome for that mental image.

I always wondered what Timmy's last name is, and now be know it's Timmy Odinson... he must be Thor's genetically defective clone! (because how else could Timmy have a nose but by a science experiment gone wrong?) This also explains how he can he can be run over with a small prop plane a dozen times... there must be multiple clones!

Whoa, goats look wacky but the ship looks cool with the double dragon figure-head w/Stormbreaker.
Wish it had the details of the Mega Construx' Viking Longship from a few years back (brilliant display model by the way). Needs bigger shields, but is still a must get for me.

I know Thor says to the Valkyrie she's 'king' but what he meant was, she's the Queen Regnant of Asgard.
She's a female monarch, equivalent in rank and title to a king, who reigns in her own right over a realm known as a "kingdom", as opposed to a Queen Consort, who is the wife of a reigning King.

@PurpleDave Not letting the comments being closed on the RSotD get in the way of having a good argument XD
You're wrong about the term barbarian originally applying to one specific group, it was always a derogatory term the Greek used (and Romans picked up) for anyone who didn't speak Greek. It was never a term for one ethnicity that expanded into a something more generic like you think 'Viking' is.
And no writers of the time wouldn't have seen much difference between the raiders attacking their homes and the families back at the raiders' homes...but quite noticeably used 'Dane' or 'Norseman' to describe them. Because that was their nationality, Viking was their job description. It's why the occupation of Saxon kingdoms in not-quite-England-yet was called the Danelaw not the Vikinglaw. They're not Vikings anymore if they've settled

I couldn't care less about Marvel, but the hype of Norse gods is great. I love it!

"Why King Valkyrie?"

Valkyrie is King, because Thor said so.

"...so no matter how serious they try to make it, it’s going to be a comedy the instant the twig who weighs less than the stunt prop hammer picks it up (unless she’s been packing on muscle since they had her hold up a Mjolnir prop at SDCC or wherever that was)."

Jane is Thor, because Mjolnir said so.

(Kinda thought we were done with that toxic debate, but hey)

As someone who really isn't into the films or comics, I'll say it looks great! I will be saving up for the Creator version instead, however.

Also see Hasbro is making Lady Thor in the Titan FX line. I'm a big fan of budget 12-inch figures, and Hasbro has really been improving the quality of the face sculpts. The first I bought (Black Widow) was awful, but the last one (Sersi) was great. Mattel quit making True Moves entirely after losing the DC and Halo licenses, and the Spin Master/DC female figures are poorly made. Not to mention, even before the supply chain issues, weren't easy to find.

"I haven't watched any of the Marvel Movies released after Black Widow yet, so… I'm slightly confused. But I'm liking those minifigs. Probably grabbing it on sale.

One of my most wanted minifig parts is the Qui-Gon hairpiece in light grey or white. Hope they make one soon."

This set is in anticipation of the new Thor film which is (currently) due out in July 2022.
