Wow, so much fun! Two new koopalings, Cat suit for Peach, this is amazing. Loving the new sets!

By in South Korea,

Looks like more new parts in 71405, I personally think some of the mario sets have parts which are too specialized. (And they're overpriced)

Gravatar
By in Norway,

The little bird comes in red for the first time i see :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

These are great, but WOW are they expensive. Gonna need some major sales to be worth picking up…

Gravatar
By in Belarus,

71406 the white half circle tile part on a yoshi figure is it a new part? if so why they not introduced it long time ago...

Gravatar
By in France,

Ha I wished there was a "mini castle" with the fancy rooftops for a cheaper price :) !

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Is that a new 1x1 round piece?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Every time I see these sets I'm so glad I didn't buy into this theme because these prices are absolutely insane.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

There is a new tan spring-loaded brick. That's gonna be useful for making MOCs more bouncy ;)

Gravatar
By in Canada,

The castle sets are the best-looking, IMO. This theme seems to have been a hit, I can scarcely believe it’s been going 3 years now and doesn’t seem to be wrapping up.

By in United States,

The tan 2 by 2 mushrooms in 61419 and 71415 look like they lower in hight by putting Mario on it.

The only new part I can see is the spring brick, which is 100% going to get re-used in every monster truck Lego makes from now on. Other than that, there's the tower roof piece, maybe the vine piece and a couple of character pieces. I'm actually impressed how *few* new parts are needed to make these sets look great.

Kitty Goomba! $80 for <500 parts seems like a lot, but how do you put a price on Kitty Goomba?!

In seriousness, other toy companies have had multiple price hikes in the last year, so I think I need to recalibrate my expectations for the new normal.

By in Singapore,

I want 71407 for the less expensive Magikoopa and 71409 for the Boomerang Bro. (and will BrickLink a second character to build a Hammer Bro. assuming I can get the right parts in the right colors). Interesting how the former is more expensive than the latter despite having fewer parts and a smaller build. Honestly, it's gonna be a tough sell for that reason since I really just want Kamek.

For the first time, I am on the fence about getting a Starter Course.

Good to see Lava Bobble, Monty Mole, Yoshi, Toadette and Bowser making a return as their original sets are on their way out.

Came here to say exactly this. These have long felt very un-Lego-like to me with the number of new/specialized parts being created. More of a Mega Construx kind of approach.

Ooh, almost all of these sets actually look really good! Love the Goomba's Shoe, and the frozen tower demonstrates some nice creative freedom with the IP.

EDIT: That price on the frozen tower is ludicrous, though

That makes sense, sounds like the weighted mushrooms that appear in certain games, like Super Mario World or New Super Mario Bros DS.

It looks like there are extra long trans clear pieces supporting the cloud platforms in the 71409 Big Spike set. Are those trans clear pieces new?

By in United States,

I’ve never bought any of the Mario sets, but I really want the Shoe Goomba! Super Mario 3 for the win!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I wonder why they didn’t call it Kuribo’s Shoe.

Well whatever. I want it for the nostalgia. Spent many an hour exploring Mario 3.

By in United States,

The sets don't interest me much, but I'm very glad that we will finally have the Technic, Pin Connector Round 2L with Slot in tan.

@MisterBrickster:
The tower roof is new, and appears to form a clean 2x2 round top when placed in pairs (the smaller shingled tower roof, and the onion dome, both form a 1x2 oval-ish shape). Other noted new parts are a 1x2 half-round tile (Yoshi’s belly) and the same as a jumper plate (on top of the castle tower roof pieces). Someone mentioned a possible 4x4 tile, but I haven’t looked to confirm that yet.

@Zander:
That’s a lot harder to tell. They sorta look white, but the shading is off just enough that, given their placement, I think you’re right about them being clear. What shape they are is a different matter. The cloud in the middle of each stack indicates that there are four of them, and each stack uses two of them. That eliminates at least one possibility, but they might be 1x2x5 bricks.

Gravatar
By in United States,

They’re all overpriced imo but Peach’s Castle is probably the best deal and the Spike build (as disproportionate as it is) looks great imo, especially given how it’s mostly brick-built and existing pieces.

I'm pretty sure they are the large support pieces in clear. https://brickset.com/parts/design-91176

I think you might be right, but there’s a lot about it that doesn’t make any sense. Keeping in mind trans parts get different molds, they aren’t usually _this_ different. I can see evidence of the top and bottom pin holes, as well as the top hole of the middle three. I don’t see the dimples, if that’s what they are. The tabs on top and bottom are missing. For that matter, the right sidewall on both parts doesn’t seem to be there either, and the parts just seem to blend into the top and bottom platforms.

I know they make instructions entirely on computer these days, but now I really want to see a physical build of this to compare what’s different. Maybe someone did a really terrible job of clipping, and that explains why these parts look so wrong.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Aww, lookit that dang little cute little dip dang boot!

Gravatar
By in United States,

If these continue to sell well, LEGO is definitely getting their money's worth out of the slew of new molds

That peach is hard to look at with the weird faceplate

"Kuribo's Shoe" was just a translation error in Super Mario Bros. 3. "Kuribo" is Goomba's original Japanese name, and translates to "chestnut". More recent games have translated it correctly as Goomba's Shoe.

Really impressed with a lot of the stuff in these sets! Yoshi's House is very evocative of its original design from Super Mario World, albeit with more separation between the individual trees and the "Yoshi" sign attached to the tree canopy instead of the mailbox.

The scannable fruit in the various sets likewise calls back to the berry-like fruits Yoshi enjoys in various Mario games. The set descriptions on LEGO.com explain that besides scanning the fruits for an immediate reaction, you can also visit a character like Yoshi after scanning the fruit to feed the fruit to them for an additional reaction!

I'm also pleased to see some of the enemies that this wave is finally introducing to the theme! Boomerang Bro is a welcome addition to the Koopa Troop, and hope it won't be too long before they're joined by iconic relatives like Hammer Bro, Fire Bro, Sledge Bro, and perhaps even Ice Bro. Likewise, it's good that more Koopalings are being introduced after Larry's debut in 71380. Hopefully the theme continues long enough for the remaining four (Iggy, Roy, Morton, and Wendy) to show up in sets.

I am surprised we're getting a Big Spike before a regular-sized Spike, but I suppose it was easier to recreate Spike's projectile-throwing mechanic at a larger scale that can incorporate a Technic function. Hopefully there will be a LEGO rendition of classic Spike (or maybe even variants like Snow Spike and Rock Spike) in a later set, though. They're a small enough enemy that they could even be included in a future blind bag series.

It's a little frustrating to me that there are no alternate pictures on LEGO.com yet, since there are a lot of details and features we can't properly see in just these main images. But even in these images we can get sort of a feel for the new parts. The springy mushroom base is very exciting to me, since it will be easier to incorporate into a lot of System models than Technic suspension beams.

Another exciting new piece is the 1x2x13 half-cylinder support column. It appears in white in Peach's Castle set, and in transparent in the Cloudtop Challenge and Frozen Tower sets. The proportions and connection points are similar to https://brickset.com/parts/design-91176, but the base is a 2x4 plate that sticks forward and to the sides instead of backward, and the top has the same 1x2 semicircular cross-section as the center instead of extending outward like the base does.

I expect that in the future we will see EXTENSIVE use of this part across various themes for stuff like architectural columns, tree trunks, and pirate ship masts. It should be especially great for masts, since two placed back-to-back will have a sturdy 4x4 base like the classic LEGO pirate ship masts, various Technic connections along its length like https://brickset.com/parts/design-48005, and a cylindrical cross-section like https://brickset.com/parts/design-75347 without any big hollow cavities in the back.

Very excited for the potential these sets will offer, and eager for LEGO to release more pics or videos that showcase more of their details and features!
