Princess Peach playable character and castle revealed!
Posted by Huw,Earlier today LEGO revealed that Princess Peach will be joining the plumber brothers as a playable character in the Super Mario theme, and that her castle is being produced as a set.
The post has now been removed from LEGO's Instagram page which suggests that someone pressed the publish button a little early ahead of Mario day tomorrow (Mar 10 -- get it?). Luckily Jay over at Jay's Brick Blog saved the images before they were deleted.
Several other characters that will be debuting later in the year were also revealed: head on over to Jay's Brick Blog to see them all, and view a picture of 71408 Princess Peach's Castle after the break.

cool. I think the characters work better as these interactive figures. (I can't wait for Daisy to join eventually)
oh, new half cone roof piece btw
THE RUMORS WERE TRUE AFTER ALL!
Looks nice!
And does that ham have one of the interactive tiles on it???
Mario looks OK in this style, but I think the Princess Peach figure is a little ludicrous.
At first glance, it looked like Duplo.
Cool

I feel the same. Mario has always been a fairly round individual, the dumpy style of these figures suits him. Luigi and Peach, not so much.
They did a lot with what they had though.
Hmm. The more I see her, the more I like how they pulled her off. Of course Mario is better, but his shapes are dead simple after all. Plus, it reminds me a lot of old school graphic design which I think is quite fitting. Next to Mario she looks a bit overdone though, but again, that’s probably just how those designs are.
So... the downside to these electronic figures is that now getting all the playable characters is going to cost almost $200. I’m assuming Peach will also be in a set that costs about $60.
So when she gets to the end of a level, is it ever the wrong castle? Is it ever the right castle?
Wonder if the Peach starter set will be based on the Nintendo DS game Super Princess Peach. While certainly dated, that would be such a neat deep cut!
@gabri_ves:
I think you’re right. I can only find one shingled half-cone, which has three rows of horseshoe-shaped shingles.
@Pmilly_74:
It certainly looks like one. Now they just need a sound byte from Daniel Day Lewis about “eating your ham”.
Every copy of 71408 is personalized

That's why you need to buy two sets, so she can always be in another castle...
LEGO could continue this range of characters for a long time at this rate.
Wario , Waluigi to continue the Mario/Luigi line of characters.
And then Daisy , Rosalina to follow up Peach.
The castle looks amazing! Peach is pretty nice, another Koopaling is a plus. The characters are all stylized enough to fit in a lot of different art types in my opinion. I honestly wonder what comes next, there’s no way LEGO’s gonna end this theme without producing at least one batch of minifigures.
Peach looks like she have a beard...
Seems, not just AFOL's have been adversely affected by the pandemic. Princess Peach also gained a few pounds. She literally looks like this: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EGcTq1WX0AQo2e9.jpg
I was really hoping for an N64 castle in the 18+ line instead of this, but kids will be happier, I guess. I just wish we wouldn't get another Bowser, Toadette and Bob-omb figure.
For some reason Peach looks like a really good photoshop.

I don't know, the margins on these electronic figures can't be very good. Luigi added value by introducing a new playstyle, but I don't know if Peach will, and I can't imagine what Waluigi or Rosalina or Daisy could offer.
Wario, on the other hand, would be a great choice, provided they could figure out how to translate Warioware to Lego. Then you could have a Warioware starter set with that version of Wario and a power up set for his classic costume. If successful, it could introduce a whole set of brick-built spinoff characters.
That's a whole new subtheme though, and could overcomplicate or dilute the brand. But I'd buy them all.
My 5-year old will be beside himself with excitement at this! He adores the Mario sets.
Look at the Goomba. The cake is a lie!
I’ll have to see Peach in person to make a judgment of how good or bad she looks in this style. I’m glad about the castle though!
Ooh, nice Ludwig!
Yeah, something looks kinda off about Peach - her face doesn't look as gentle as it should, not sure if it's the mouth or the shape of the head. Nice addition though!
Thank you Mario!
But our princess is in another castle!
Wow, so awesome. My kid will love this, and I will do so too, there is so much Mario lore to explore, and the playability is strong, we're still building and rebuilding stuff here to create new worlds and levels!

"I was thinking they would do Wario first but okay.
She is the thing of nightmares though."
Imagine what she will look like when she’s not powered on or when pictures don’t capture the light from the screen behind her face, with just soulless black eyes…
@TheOtherMike:
But when she gets to the end of the level and is standing outside the castle, that’s not the castle that Princess Peach is in (hence always the wrong one), but if she merely walks inside, then it’s always the castle that Princess Peach is located in (hence always the right one). Or if Daisy is in the castle, then you get an episode of Donahue where they’re both accusing Mario of cheating on themselves with “the other woman”, and Toad has to get a paternity test, Yoshi gets sent to the animal shelter, and Wario ends up running unopposed in the election when Mario drops out due to the scandal.
I am really surprised that they have continued to put out new characters, the sets must be selling somewhere very well as in Australia you can find most on Amazon at 40-50% off full retail most of the time and discounted at major retail stores around the country.
Hopefully they do well for the children and AFOL's that do like the products.
@PurpleDave
… Donahue…?!
LOL!!! Talk about dating yourself! Next thing you’ll be bringing up Merv Griffin…
…wait…
…I just dated myself.
D’oh!
I think Peach looks pretty good personally. I never realised the front of her hair was a heart shape before, but apparently it is! It looks like she'll maybe have an interchangable leg piece as well, like the Bros.
I like what they've done with the inverted half-cones under the turrets as well, it looks really good.
I'm gonna be so annoyed when we end up only getting 6 of the 7 koopa kids. We need more than 1 a year.
Not really my jam. The sets look well done from the video game graphics, but outside of the original NES Mario games and then Odyssey on the Switch I Haven't played any games.
Mama mia.
Oooohhh my daughter would love that set ! It's vibrant and looks fun to play !
SHE HAS MUTTON CHOPS! Hahaha I’m dying!

I was mostly talking long long long term plans for the theme, I don't expect a shift to minifigures or mario kart due to the amiibo and radio controlled kart toys already existing and Nintendo seems fairly protective of it's franchises.
Still waiting for minifigures!!!!
Peach looks really cute!
I really wish I was a Mario fan. That theme is so rich with cool stuff.
Is that a half round 1x2 jumper piece? that is so specific.
@MutoidMan
What about Geraldo? Maury?
Speaking of talk shows, the question everyone wants to know the answer to is:
Can you put Mario's pants on Peach?
@Spidermanager:
There’s an animated feature film coming out soon, and I’ve seen a theory floated that they may be saving minifigs for that.
@AcademyofDrX:
One thing I’ve heard about Nintendo is that they always manage to turn a profit on the hardware, where XBox, PlayStation, and probably Genesis before them, start out as loss-leaders until they can improve the hardware in a way that makes it more affordable to manufacture. I don’t know if Nintendo has a hand in the hardware for this theme, but I wouldn’t bet on these being sold at a loss.
@LukeSkywalker:
Worse than Pennywise in a Pooh suit?
@MutoidMan:
I almost went with Maury, but remembered Donahue at the last moment. If I’d remembered Springer at the same time, I’d have gone with him just for the Weekly World News-level ridiculousness of what he was known for.
@legoverslinder:
Oh, hey, so it is. You know what else that means? These can be paired to make cones with nice, round, 2x2 tops, instead of 1x2 Tic-Tac shapes like the smaller version or the Adventurers onion dome.
I’d rather have seen Princess Peach’s Castle at +2000 pieces instead of the Super Mario 64™ Question Mark Block 71395 - now that would have been amazing!
First off, shout to the guy that name dropped Donahue. Secondly, Princess Peach looks rather...uhhhh...."special". That castle would be great as an adult set, with more details and pieces

I warned you about DLCs bros.
Please make her skirt interchangeable with Mario's overalls. Also, hope the hair heart is a removable plate and there are studs to give her Bowser brows.
Also, my 5yo daughter still waits for Lego Captain Toad.
I wanted a Peach's Castle, but I don't know how to feel about this. Might be a good starting point for a Creator style MOC, especially if that stain glass window is a printed price. That said, I shudder thinking what the MSRP is going to be.

Once they release playable figures of absolutely everyone else imaginable, including characters like Link, Sonic, and Kirby, they'll cancel the line instead of bringing in Waluigi.
Is that a 4x4 tile under the doorway?!?!?!
LEGO Peach is so cursed, ffs she’s missing half of her ears.
The brick-built lips on that Spike character are awesome!

You wont likely get Waluigi- Nintendo don’t really like the character and do their best to pretend he doesnt exist ;)
While I understand the interactive component needed to be there I still think it is a miss not getting a Minifig equivalent for any of these to go with the play sets. But if they ever do release some I'll be first in line to buy some sets. Would love these as minifigs.
No Sir, I don't like it

I share the Lego Captain Toad anticipation.
@Terreneflame:
He did get a die-cast Hot Wheels kart, but that may have been Mattel’s choice under the terms of the license.

Will we get LEGO Solid Snake? :O

Mister Horse!
So far, my predictions have been correct! Might as well restate my list to see if it stays true.
Fall 2023, Wario Starter
Fall 2024 Waluigi Starter
Fall 2025 Daisy Starter
Fingers crossed!!!
Why is everyone calling her Peach? Isn't her name Princess Toadstool?
Knew this was coming...no 'less shocked' seeing it...
I don't 'hate it', but I'm still in the 'Mario Minifigs' group.
was Mario day created by the same Dad who came up with Star Wars day?

No, it's Princess Peach. NoA called her Princess Toadstool when localizing the early Mario games and all related media, and she started being known as Princess Peach everywhere since Mario 64 (though in 64 she does sign off her handwritten letter to Mario as "Princess Toadstool", with a signature bearing her first name "Peach", implying that her full name is Peach Toadstool).

That would explain why I have never heard her called Peach before. I entered my Nintendo (and all video games) dark ages in 1995, when I graduated from high school, so I have only ever played Super Mario Bros. 1-3, Super Mario Land 1-3, and Super Mario World . Despite the fact that my kids have a Switch, I am still in those dark ages. Though I do play the classics from time to time.
Sweet, now mario can have his peach. I'm not too keen on this series but I would love to have her mini figure
