The Simpsons: possible set list
Posted by Huw,
Our articles about The Simpsons in LEGO generated a lot of interest and have been among the most read and commented articles published this year. It seems some of you can't wait while others think the idea is terrible.
Now, news has emerged overnight on GrooveBricks that'll be of interest to those of you in the former camp: a possible set list.
Here's what's it's alleged is heading our way:
- Bart’s Skate Trick, £10 minifigs: Bart & Milhouse
- Homer at the Control Panel, £20, minifigs: Homer, Burns, & Smithers
- Lisa’s Sax Performance, £30, minifigs: Lisa, Marge, Sherri, and Terri
- Springfield Shops, £50, minifigs: Bart, cashier at Krusty Burger, Krusty, Apu, / Nelson
- Simpson’s House, £70, minifigs: Bart, Homer, Marge, Lisa, Maggie, Grandpa, Flanders, and Santa's Little Helper
The list certainly sounds plausible, doesn't it, and covers the main price points. Do the minifigs include the main characters, and are these scenes/locations iconic?

I hardly think the sax performance is iconic enough to warrant a set, neither are sherri and terri iconic enough to become lego figures IMO, but other than that, it all sounds good.... :)
At first the idea of a Simpsons theme didn't entirely grab me, but if this is a genuine list the only one that doesn't interest me all that much is Lisa's recital and possibly the power plant. I'll still wait for pictures and the inevitable Aussie mark up before making my mind, though the shops set certainly has me intrigued!
The set list seems promising!
But I have doubts that it will be possible to have the whole Simpsons family in ONE single set (Simpson’s House). Remember Ninja Turtles? To get all 4 turtles characters one had to buy at least 2 large sets or 3 smaller.
Krusty, Apu and Nelson in one set? I'll have that :) Sounds plausible, and the house, Homer's workstation and the Kwik-E-Mart seem to be covered. The School (with Skinner and Groundskeeper Willy) and Moe's Tavern would be other essentials for me. I'm really interested in this but I have a strange feeling it will step right out of 'normal' minifig styles and have moulded heads. At least it will be a licensed theme with yellow figs!
Well, the house is surely the flagship set and - if done right - will be the center piece or only set of an afols and fans approach towards this theme. A this price point we can expect over 600 pieces and this might look good on display. Everything else doesn't sound too exciting, especially as the shops (probably both Kwik-E-Mart and Krusty Burger) might just be too small to look any good.
If this news is true, it pretty much confirms (as if it wasn't already obvious) that this is a minifigure driven theme like a lot of TLG's more recent efforts, including TMNT and The Lone Ranger. Zero playabiiity, and all about getting the customer to spend more money.
Ten years too late on this one.
sounds good to me! I agree with Delatron - a school set, with Skinner and Willy is also a must :D
But oh my god, whatever happens please edit the £7 Simpsons house to £70 or i'll literally go mad. I really think you should edit this. Should it be £70 instead of £7?! Or maybe it's £77. Oh man.
I was interested, but if this set list is accurate, the series suffers from the sin that almost all licensed themes are guilty of - having sets based inside of buildings and/or vehicles, so that if you build them all at once you can't create a coherent 'world'.
I also think Sherri and Terri aren't iconic enough, which is the main reason I doubt this list...
Also on the accuracy front, it's Mr Burns, not Berns and the dogs name is Santa's Little Helper.
It would also be interesting to see if Lego is now referenced by name in The Simpsons, instead of its current equivalent Blocko.
I had to lookup who Sherri and Terri are, so also question whether they would make them (in a first wave), however as they are twins it does make it very easy for TLG, I'm sure putting 2 identical figs in a pack is cheaper than 2 different ones.
If this list is indeed accurate, then I am delighted with it.
I would disagree with the general consensus here actually. Sherri and Terri are certainly iconic enough to become Minifigures if you ask me. They appear in the opening titles in pride of place beside Lisa and are probably the most important of the school children aside from Martin, Ralph and the bullies. I would have liked to see a Minifigure of Mr Largo in 'Lisa's Sax Performance' and perhaps Martin too but other than that the Minifigure selection seems great.
I would love a school set priced at least around £60, Principal Skinner, Groundskeeper Willie, Edna Krabappel, Ralph Wiggum, Wendell, Dolph, Jimbo, Kearney and Bart could be included and I would purchase that in a heartbeat.
Set list is one thing, I'm more curious about whether Simpson is a simple project that would only give one wave, or more sets would be made.
It shows the Spongebob won't have newer things in 2013. However I think Simpsons have more characters and scenes to be considered.
Thanks @Richard Hayes. What is the Hoth Bricks new site URL? Please email rather than post here. I try not to link to or publicise their efforts given the level of plagiarism and unattributed news articles they post there.
No set with Bart writing on the school black board? BOOOOOOOOOOOO :p
If the list is correct I look forward to seeing how they make Maggie in the house set, I've wanted a generic lego baby for ages, I hope she's not just normal child sized minifig
Springfield Shops looks like it has Krusty Burger and Kwik-E_Mart similar to 79109 Colby City Showdown and it looks like we won't be getting a full Simpsons house rather it being similar to 3315 Olivia’s House with an open back
I would prefer a Monorail, Moe's Tavern, Lard Lad Donuts and Springfield Elementary School with the school bus.
I'm satisfied with the list above assuming its correct and hopefully the buildings and structures will be decent enough and not lacklustre in any ways.
The Simpsons House is tempting, I have to admit.
lego would not make Moe's tavern as a lego set
woohoo ... :D
If this list is correct, I'm a little surprised that Lego did not do what they did with LotR and TMNT where you need to buy every set to get the main characters. With the Simpsons you only need to buy the biggest set.
Does any one know if these will be regular minifigs or will they be in the nature of Friends Minifigs?
These sound brilliant, cannot wait until this wave and the next come out!!! :D I know where £180 will be going next year ;)
I'd like to see more episode centric sets, like Spongebob has! I'd love a Mr Plow set!! :)
The problem I have with this sets is the levels of violence the show depicts a lot of times.
In the words of Fry from Futurama (which i would love to be made).... Shut up... And take my money!!!!
The Simpsons have a huge recurring character list.
Hardcore fans (of which there are millions) will try to collect all the characters. Plus, they are probably in their 20s-40s, a group that tends to have more money than kids.
I wonder if they'll only do locations, or if they'll also highlight specific episodes.
Personally, I hope they at least put the garden on top of the Kwik-E-Mart in an homage to my favorite episode, Lisa the Vegetarian (wouldn't hurt to throw in Paul and Linda McCartney, too).
You know I was really hoping that this wouldn't be true, but it is. Well all you people who do like the Simpsons have fun.
I don't really like the Simpsons, but the sets sound cool.
Need that Monorail set at the $140 price point, complete with the "escalator to nowhere" and Troy McClure!
And personally, I would LOVE to see a Treehouse of Horror mini-series, maybe similar to the "Friends Pets" or "Spring/Summer/Fall Scenes" polybags, but with more parts. I wonder how they'd render a "Homer as Jack-in-the-box" minifigure?
Krusty, Sideshow Bob, Patty & Selma!!!!! Must have!!!
I have to agree with @ChicoCheco, after seeing what Lego has done with TMNT and LOTR/Hobbit, I'm really skeptical that they would include all of the principal characters in one set. (Not that I'm complaining about all of the awesome TMNT and LOTR Lego I now possess!)
That being said, those do sound awesome and I can't wait to see what the actual set designs and minifigs look like.
In spite of this being "a decade too late" as many have said, I'm still super excited about this theme! (If it actually HAD come out 10 years ago my excitement would be immeasurable!)
@Huw The Hoth Bricks Simpsons site: http://www.springfieldbricks.com/
Oh, and also YES PLEASE to the Treehouse of Horror mini-series suggested by @oldfan.
Man, I'm going to need a second job for all my Lego...and another story added onto my house to store/display it!
Loving it..........
Need a groundskeeper, Willie.
Need to do treehouse of terror / horror each year.
Super heroes and Simpsons will take my money.
Friends will continue to take my money as well.
Haha, makes sense they'd do Sherri & Terri, only one mold for two characters.
The rest sounds plausible enough. I'm assuming 'Springfield Shops' will consist of the Kwik-E-Mart and KrustyBurger, and 'cashier at KrustyBurger' is really the squeaky-voiced teen.
The Lisa set could well be school band room or auditorium... Which could go well with a later school set. And let us recreate plenty of moments like bar assassinating Milhouse with a Nerf gun. Hopefully it's not an overpriced figure pack. I'm intrigued by these descriptions and am potentially buying all.
I could see the Simpsons house coming with the whole family simply because many adult nonlego fans would buy a big set like that as their one set.
The list is weird because cars and such is what sells, yet we have no vehicles (as the main part) in any of the sets. I figures a school bus for sure, the shops will probably have some, but still weird that two of the five seem to be more play set style.
I can't wait. Krsty Burger and the Qiki-Mart in one set?! Yes!
The schoolbus with Otto, the bullies, Martin, and Principal Skinner would be great.
Awesome. The minifigure junkie in me is getting excited.
Plz Make it!!!
@tkatt That would be AWESOME!
What do you think of the idea Huw.
This List is great. Just need krusty burger and it will become even better
I love this. I can see Bart, for example, being produced as many different types of mini figures for the character. Maybe an El Barto figure?
Unlike TMNT and LOTR the characters from this series could be created with many different looks and designs making them much more collectible, rather than just including the same figure in 3 sets. Some people have mentioned episode variants for particular characters and this is why we would have multiples of each character even in the first (only?) wave. Hope I am right!
LOL @ all the monorail requests.
Dear Lego, WHY YOU NEED ALL MY MONEY!?
...can't wait ;)
Bi-Mon-Sci-Fi-Con
Springfield's Bi-Monthly Science Fiction Convention! So classic!!!
I thought I read somewhere (Hothbricks) that they were starting the line with smaller sets? If that's the case, how does the most iconic place fit into a $70 price point?
Not that I'm interested...
This... sound... exciting...?? :s
I could see a Bart's Treehouse in the future...
Treehouse of horror minifigs would be cool too...
Mark it! Moe as an exclusive minifigure.
We get the Squeaky-Voiced Teen in the first wave? This is what dreams are made of!
I can't help but think that The Simpsons franchise is ten years too late for TLC.
Imagine Lego characters with yellow heads ...
Lisa's sex performance?
"I hardly think the sax performance is iconic enough to warrant a set"
Since they want to actually sell these sets, they are focusing in classic simpsons and not the crap that currently is called the simpsons. Back in the day, Lisa's sax was a very iconic part of the show. It inspired more than one musician to start into music.
@Si_Dorking_Surrey. Do you REALLY have to joke about that kind of stuff? Oh wait, they do that all the time in the Simpsons, so I guess your allowed to make inappropriate jokes now! *Eye roll*
If the theme goes well will they eventually make a Blockoland set?
The sax jokes on the Simpsons date back to Clinton. Most here aren't old enough to get them. Even Animaiacs make that joke in it's opening. Lisa also plays it in the beginning of the episode, so there is that going on in all 500 episodes.
Ok I own every TMNT set and they aren't driven by minifigs the sewer lair baxter stockman and shellraiser is full of playability. Your only pissed because it was the new one. But no kid knows what that is! Its the 21st century get over it!!!!! And the turtles do have different variants! >:[
I'd love to see Kang and Kodos in their UFO.
I am gonna get them all
Hopefully there will be more in the summer of next year
